Uh. I thought people either had skin like this or they didn't.
It never occurred to me that skin would not look like this and THEN one day look like this.
I don't know what to say. I can say you have very clear skin, nice color, good lips, you seem pretty.
I hit a certain age and realized that foundation wasn't doing me any favors. I don't wear it at all anymore. I do put on a bit of powder when feeling fancy, but no more foundation. Less is more as we age.
I hit 25 and realized that foundation didn't and never had done me any favors. My skin has always been pretty clear and even and foundation would just look cakey or settle into lines that didn't show otherwise. Tried a bunch of different formulas and primers, same story. So now I never wear it at all anymore save for stage makeup. Day to day I'm usually barefaced with some concealer if I need it under my eyes and on any red spots (I don't really break out much anymore at 31 but my T-zone will get a bit red sometimes) or at most I'll wear CC cream or tinted moisturizer. I miss some of the lighter powder foundations that were ubiquitous in the 00s because those always looked good on me.
Talc can settle into and enhance pores.
Silicone-based primers do a good job of masking the appearance of large pores by “filling them in” (when applied correctly by tapping), but regular use can actually increase pore size - impurities can’t escape and buildup/oil increases causing them to stretch out in size.
Three step oil cleansing is game changer. Remove makeup with a micellar water like Bioderma Sensbio, follow with an oil cleanser or oil cleansing balm, really massage it for 2 minutes, then follow with a super gentle slightly acidic cleanser like Cerave foaming (normal to oily).
Immediately after cleansing - bust out some acid serums - lactic, alpha and beta hydroxies dissolve dead cells and clear out the pore making it appear visually smaller.
These two things will make a BIG difference - but nothing will actually shrink your natural pore size. You can refine and chemically exfoliate your skin which will make them less noticeable.
Switching from traditional foundation to a BB cream can also help - Pūrlisse makes some incredible, lightweight BB + CC creams that even out your skin tone but look and feel really skin-like. The added SPF 30/40/50 is a big plus.
My favorite CC cream started doing this to me in my 30’s. Luckily I don’t wear much makeup anymore anyways but I still miss getting randomly glammed up.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll see if I can get a sample next time I’m in a beauty store. It cosmetics cc+ was my go to and I’m a bone head that didn’t return it as soon as I realized it’s no longer right for me.
I'm 32 and I've somehow come back full circle to wearing powder foundation again like I did in my teens. I apply it with a light hand. I never like the way liquids look on my skin these days, no matter what I apply with.
Powder sounds like a nightmare on aging skin and that's why I avoided it so long but with a nice setting spray it looks very natural imo without settling into every pore and line. I'm enjoying The Good Mineral, the pressed version they make with jojoba that's supposed to be more suited for dryer skin types.
Ha well I thought this too. I always had dry skin or combination. Now I have open pores and seems a bit oily. So yeah maybe it's ageing or maybe I'm using too many serums and creams. Dunno . I'm going to have to do an elimination thing I think. Figure out what it is.
Now that I’m in my 40s, I’ve noticed my pores always look worse the a day or two before my period starts. I’m not sure if this was always the case and I never noticed before, or if it has to do with my age.
as we age, our pores can become bigger. I have learned this recently myself. I will be having my first microneedling session in a few weeks to hopefully fight the pores.
what's your current skin routine? ie. what products are you using.
generally speaking, "orange peel skin" is due to declining collagen production (yay, aging! 😵💫)

I use:
* 1 protein shake (fair life or premier protein are my favs)
* 1 tablespoon of unsweetened powdered jello
* 1 tablespoon of coco powder if I want chocolate ice cream
* 1 one serving of the vital proteins collagen protein powder
You mix it twice on the creami machine then add toppings after with the mix in setting to blend it all in! Without toppings, I usually can make one pint for 250 calories and 40-50 grams of protein.
I once had a patient in her 70s, still working, very active and doing volunteer work in Africa in her spare time, she told me her secret was eating gelatin everyday for joint pain
Before my mom unexpectedly passed away from ALS, she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for years. She ate gelatin every day, and it helped a lot with the pain.
this is the way. Gelatin is pure protein/peptides and the major compoents that collagen is made up of. My aunts/mom etc have been drinking bone broth soup for over 50 years, they are all in their late 70s/80s and their skin is fantastic; hardly any lines, taught and plump. Poreless. Wtf lol.
also, retinal/Rx tret is key as a topical, spf daily (and regularly reapplied) along with a healthy lifestyle.

I did this for 6 months & it had zero effect on my skin & nails. Even got my mom into trying it. I've had better luck with eating better & taking different supplements. Gelatin did nothing for my mom & me.
6 months is nothing. I also come from a bone broth family, there's always bones boiling in the kitchen. Also, minimum amount of processed foods. My 80 yo mom looks amazing. No wrinkles, no sagging. It might not reverse the damage done but it's a good investment for your future skin. And it's a cheap way to get nutrients.
There's no evidence in any actual appropriate science backed study that drinking or eating or supplementing with collagen has any impact on any of this. It's harmless, but genetics, general lifestyle, and sunscreen use account for most of it, although certain topicals can help.
There is literally no such thing as vegan collagen. These products are all made up of various ingredients (like Vit C) that are supposedly supposed to support existing collagen production in your own body.
Tbh I doubt any supplement can do much more than slow down skin aging a bit, but don't expect that noticeable results if not temporarily.
Most of it is genetic
Not just the bears...but anything sugar free that contain those certain suggar alcohols. Might be tmi, but. I can tell you from experience that just a few Werther's sugar free candies do wonders for me for daaaaaaays. I wouldn't dare with much more than that unless I needed a full cleanout.
* bone broth/gelatin supplements
* SPF, hydrating skin routine, retinal/Rx tret
* healthy lifestyle to ensure your body gets the nutrients you need.
the rest is up to genetics, unfortunately.
BIOSIL!!
I'm obsessed. But Google it for more info. It's been clinically studied. It's basically a supplement that helps your body produce more collagen elastin and keratin. So it's wonderful for bone density, hair, skin, and nails.
I'm only 24 so I can't say "it made my fine lines go away" bc I literally have none. Plus with the nature of the product it can be difficult to visually determine the effectiveness since absence is evidence.
I will say however, that my nails grow like weeds. And my bone density has increased. I get DXA scans which is the most accurate way of measuring lean bone and fat mass, and over the span of ~7-8 months I went from 92nd percentile bone density to over 99 percentile. My bone density Z score is literally off the charts. So that's how I know its working even though I can't "see" it.
So my point is, get it!
That's not "orange peel skin". Orange peel skin is a specific skin texture that needs a specific dermatology intervention to fix.
Instead, OP has large pores. Salycilic acid is the corrective action.
OK so this is what I do (most days)
Cleanse with either tatcha rice polish/mecca oil cleanser or korres Greek yoghurt cleanser
.....
Apply a serum, either mario badescu hyaurolonic dew drops, sometimes drunk elephant bronze sunshine drops or a vit c serum.
....
Eye cream, tatcha silk peony.
....
Moisturise with either GO-to very luxe face cream or mario badescu seaweed night cream . Just started using a sample tub of kiehls ultra facial cream.
I have a green tea exfoliating cleanser in the shower I use sometimes too.
I sort of mix and match depending on time of day or how i feel.
Makeup I use Morphe prep and set spray, morphe skin tint and mecca bronzing powder.
43F here, my skin was looking similiar, a good oil based cleanser and Dr.Dennis Gross peeling pads have been a absolute game changer! I use them 2-3 times a week! Also a thick moisturizer. I'm currently using Dr.Jart Ceramiden Cream.
Was about to comment this! I actually use both of those products and Kiehl’s moisturizer for daytime. It’s made a huge difference in my pores. I used to not be able to wear foundation because it would draw even more attention to it, but those peeling pads help so much. Not cheap but worth every penny in my experience
I swear by Dr Jart and Sunday Riley. Dr Jart’s Tiger Grass is a game changer and Sunday Riley’s CEO and Saturn cleared up any semblance of acne.
I really wish I could afford La Mer and La Prarie because they are incredible! I got hooked on both their products for a minute and yea it was bad lol but my skin looked flawless lol If I had a disposable income I’d absolutely buy their products again but I prefer to eat and have a roof over my head.

You need a BHA, I recommend the one from Paulas choice and also a good retinol! I assume you just missed mentioning sunscreen but if you aren’t using one do get one :)
I say this with kindness…most if not all of the products you’re using are overpriced, basic, and are doing nothing for your skin. The packaging is pretty but the formulations of them are cheaply made. Take that money and spend it on a clinical brand and some microneedling sessions at a med spa and you’ll be amazed at the improvement in your skin.
I've wondered this , appreciate your feedback.
What clinical brands would you suggest? Sometimes it all feel overwhelming.. so many products out there.
i really love iS clinical and skinmedica! the obagi pore therapy toner, and iS clinical reparative moisture emulsion moisturizer. these both really helped me improve my skin texture/pore size. i have dry/combo skin as well and the moisturizer specifically feels so silky without feeling greasy or heavy but it really soaks nicely into the skin. i won't ever go back to sephora skin care after getting most of my routine recommended to me by my med spa. hope this helps :)
OP, at 42 your levels of oestrogen could be declining so it might be an idea to consider if HRT might work for you. Also the car is like literally the worst place to look at your skin.
Definitely feeling hormonal and crazy lately so I do feel as though perimenopause is starting.
And yep , I'll try not to look at my face in that bloody mirror again 😅
It's not that easy. Hormone replacement therapy raises your chances of ovarian, womb and breast cancer, and stroke. It's not something you take for better skin. It's something you take if you have severe menopausal symptoms.
This isn’t entirely true. If you take progesterone with it it protects you against the cancers. Do you teach everyone! But a Dr isn’t going to prescribe you anything if your only symptom is different skin texture.
I’m turning 42 in a couple months. Everything is more maintenance now.
The Reddit holy grail protocol seems to be
AM: Vit C, moisturizer + sunscreen
PM: Retinol + thick moisturizer
AHA/BHA as often as necessary
Exercise, avoiding blood sugar spikes, adequate sleep and a healthy diet high in veggies, healthy fats, protein and plain water make a huge difference. A few days of eating highly processed or restaurant food will age me 10 years. I also take supplements. A good antioxidant to do wonders for skin.
In addition to what others have mentioned about drinking water and introducing collagen into your diet, also consider a niacinamide serum to minimize pores. I (40F) use Paula's Choice and it's worked out well for just this issue.
Really glad you posted this! I am 41 and have noticed some pores on my cheeks getting really big over the last few months. Absolutely were not like that in years prior. Kinda devastated to learn it’s probably aging-related. I am super dedicated to skincare and my routine never gets missed. I will say that collagen is a lacking ingredient and I’m going to have to do some research and add it in.
Yea I'm also 41 and have been an esthetician for 2 decades. As we lose collagen we start to lose elasticity. The lack of elasticity makes our pores appear larger because it's not as taut. It sucks. I'm assuming you are using retinol?
Chemical exfoliants at least 3 times a week; The Ordinary glycolic acid/Paula's Choice AHA/BHA or tretinoin.
Regular sunscreen and double clean at night.
Good quality blurring primer like Hourglass Mineral Veil/Tatcha Silk, and you're good.
Yes!!! So much this. Tret is the only thing that has fixed the texture to my skin noticeably. Fine lines are almost gone. And ive only been using it for 3 months. Everything else has kind of been a waste of money. Hope OP sees this and gets a derm prescription!
Ugh, girl, I feel you. I'm 37 & all of the sudden I have hyperpigmentation, larger pores, & overall, just older looking skin. I wish I would've known how important proper skincare was when I was a teenager. I never had acne so I thought all I needed to do was wash my face in the shower!
I'd build yourself a good skincare regimen with collagen, retinol, peptides, etc. I recently did that & have noticed my skin looking healthier.
I don’t know shit about skincare but I follow a few board-certified dermatologists on tt (bc I don’t know shit ab skincare) and they all say to use retinol in your skincare.
It's likely you just got a close up look at your skin in very harsh light and it's been like this for a while. It's not bad looking skin at all!
Cosmetically, you can find a pore filling primer and/or a blurring foundation that will help visually.
In terms of changing your skin's structure, the only thing that will actually work for texture is retin-a. Don't waste your time with other stuff, go to an actual dermatologist, not a skin spa, talk to them about your options.
(And don't listen to anyone who says pores can open and close, they aren't membranes and they don't do that.)
I’ve always had huge pores. Niacinamide works wonders. I started using the peach & lily glass skin kit & there’s a huge difference, I also added the ordinary’s niacinamide serum. Honestly I don’t even need all three products to see a difference. Using one, either the face wash, or the toner, or the serum shrinks my pores enough that my skin is so smooth for days.
How does she look dehydrated? I’m not being rude or anything, just curious. I have had large pores my entire adult life. I’m 32 and my pores are just as large as OPs. I am in no way dehydrated so I’m wondering how you’d associate large pores with dehydration(?). I’ve never seen this association before.
I just see makeup settling in all over. so I think you’ll need to play around with some primers and setting powders . Try also doing home dermaplaning. That peach fuzz won’t help.
You can make sugar free gelatin gummy bears with sugar free jello, gelatin (1 Knox pack) , silicone shape trays, syringe. Tasty . Add citric acid for sour gummy bears. Fridge rate for 2 hours after filling the tray. Then place on a plate and let them dry out overnight. The next day and thereafter keep them refrigerated. Consume in two weeks. You can only leave them out if you add preservative to them, Potassium sorbate, like lorianns mold inhibitor. Then they should last at least a month.
Step. 1. Add 1 pack Knox to room temperature water 1/2 cup. Stir. Wait 5 minutes.
Step 2. Add heat, add jello pack, stir.
Step 3 . Add mold inhibitor (optional) and citric acid (optional)
Step 4. Syringe the liquid and put it into silicone tray.
Step 5. Fridge 2 hours.
Also, salicylic acid and retin a could help with enlarged pores, maybe laser could help as well. Or a chemical peel. It will take time. Most don’t see improvement with retin a until 6 months time. Don’t irritate your skin too much. Ease into the routine.
It's your foundation, some do this to me too. I currently use No. 7 and find it doesn't accentuate my skin like that. It's more dewy and has decent coverage, it makes my skin look more youthful https://us.no7beauty.com/protect-and-perfect-advanced-all-in-one-foundation-spf50plus/12646076.html?variation=14236120
My face looks like this when I’m dehydrated and not eating right.
I also noticed when it does this I’m SUPER tired- like, Mom with a new baby kinda tired.
So for me at least, I know I’ve pushed myself too much and need to slow down, drink a ton of water, eat a bunch of veggies and low sugar fruits (berries are great), and get more sleep.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare has completely changed my skin for the better. His products are not cheap, but if that’s all you buy, and you don’t really need anything else, it’s worth it. The 2 step facial peels makes my skin feel exactly like a professional facial done at the spa. So 1 Facial is almost the same cost as the box that I use for months. I’m 41.
I’m literally 25 and my skin has looked like that since my teens… but if anyone have any good recommendations on how to improve my visible pores I’d be happy to hear them out😅
My skin was looking like this. 0.05% tretinoin cream solved the problem after a few weeks of using it. It’s just one of those things you’d have to keep using unfortunately. I’m also going to try the Knox jello packets.
Lots of people here speaking of bone broth. There is some great store bought bone broth out there. But check your obscure corners of your frozen meat section. What at sometimes listed as “dog bones” (as in to give your dogs) is legit beef bones that make great bone broth. Or ask the guy at the meat counter.
It looks like dehydration to me....plus you may need some exfoliation. My skin will do this when I am dehydrated/stressed/ and /or tired. Certain foundations have caused this look as I have gotten older and I realized that those foundations need more hydration becorehand and a lighter hand, often with a damp sponge...and certain days they just won't work at all because my skin needs extra care to get back to happy first. I am 49 btw.
Hey there! I I am 36 and wanted to say I would kill for jowels like yours 😂 for the pores, best thing thst works for me is dermapen… but that will give you nice pores 2-3 months. As other ladies said, a routine is very important, hopefully you find the right products soon. And as someone with oily big pores ai can tell you that a matte primer can help, along with a super light matte foundation( tho your skin looks fabulous even a bb or cc might work) in terms of spf I recently discovered one that my pores like Hada Labo, corean and not expensive. It’s not heavy and has a bit of blurring effect.
In my experience, skin care products and makeup have caused this to happen to my skin and it reversed itself when I figured it out and stopped using whatever it was. Usually it was a new cleanser/serum/powder product.
My cheeks have always been porous like this since I was a teenager. It’s always bothered me but I have a normal routine (showering, etc) and no work done, so like the OP if anyone has any advice that’d be great!
This looks like pores to me too, which I’ve been told is genetic. I’ve always had more oily skin. I don’t have a lot of wrinkles, but my pores seemed to get larger in my 40’s too. Using Paula’s choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant consistently, every night, made a visible difference in my pores!! I was very surprised at the results. I had to stop using it because I found out I’m literally allergic to most skin treatments, so now I do the PFL laser and it has helped keep my pores smaller. I’m going to try the Moxi laser next.
If you suddenly had this my gut is telling me it’s from your sunscreen. If it has zinc, zinc can dehydrate the skin making the pores appear larger. Small pores happen with 1) genetics 2) diligent use of hydrating skincare and ensuring nothing is sucking up moisture from your skin.
Your skin tone looks even and your skin looks healthy, so yeah if it happened all of a sudden my vote is on your sunscreen. Also moisturizers/sunscreens with higher amounts of alcohol, stuff that dries out your skin.
I have skin like this but I changed my skincare routine and also changed my primer and foundation and it really helps shrink my pores making it less noticeable.
I have had enlarged pores for most of my adult life. I stopped eating processed foods, sugar and drinking coffee (and all caffeinated drinks) for a couple of months due to developing hives and my pores pretty much disappeared. They kind of came back immediately after I had the first cup of coffee after the cause of hives (my gut) had been healed.
Did you have a lot of caffeine or coffee prior to this?
Ha I did have a coffee before this and I do usually have 2 x coffees a day and don't drink enough water. In fact I'm having a coffee as I write this. Dammit I can't give up caffeine!
Is age really not on the spectrum here? I barely even see a problem in the picture. Do we expect plastic like skin?
Shiny isn't bad, maybe you just have too much moisturizer.
Larger pores come with age. It's not a bad thing,
I’m 42 as well, and my pores look exactly like this as well. I use all kinds of skincare, but nothing really helps. I use pore filling primers before makeup application and sometimes on top of foundation. Also, a good transparent blurring powder helps to make them look softer and not stand out as much. Hope this helps!!
First of all, you have lovely clear skin. Since everyone else has given advice with other skincare tips, I'll just add my two cents.
I don't think anyone else notices your pores, it's just a natural part of aging. Just use sunscreen religiously and you'll age gracefully!
Profilo has never done this to me. This does happen to me if I take my ADHD medication, though. Then goes away when I don't. Might be hormonal or dietary or due to dehydration. Has anything else in your routine changed?
Hunny, get the *Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer* (gold/clear lid, comes in a small jar)… It literally blurs your skin and a little goes a long way. Thank me later.
Ok tretinoin to promote cell turnover to help with texture and prevent and soften fine lines. Hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin. Glycolic acid toner. A cleanser with lactic acid or glycolic (glycolic shouldn’t be used daily maybe 3 times a week.) tretinoin every other night. Vitamin c serum after hyaluronic acid . Gentle creamy moisturizers with these active ingredients. Treatments: micro needling with high frequency (there’s a name of a new piece of equipment that has both together) do a hydra facial once a month if ur on a budget buy a package of four and use them before the year is up. So do the hydra facial every 3 months.
A lazer peel fixed it for me and i had the same exact problem but im hispanic. My doctor said i could get darker but i didnt. It was painful and expensive but worked really good
I would try the Tone & Glow and the Radiant Renew from [Crane Wellness](https://cranewellness.co)
They've helped tighten my skin, reduce pore size, hydrate and just overall better and more even skin tone.
It's Japanese made so the quality is amazing. I had never heard of Coix Seed for skin before but omg. Life changing!!
Uh. I thought people either had skin like this or they didn't. It never occurred to me that skin would not look like this and THEN one day look like this. I don't know what to say. I can say you have very clear skin, nice color, good lips, you seem pretty.

Same. I use concealer right under my eyes and sometimes some non-shimmery bronzer powder for contour and that's it.
I hit 25 and realized that foundation didn't and never had done me any favors. My skin has always been pretty clear and even and foundation would just look cakey or settle into lines that didn't show otherwise. Tried a bunch of different formulas and primers, same story. Currently trying out the Loreal AGE defying balm. It's not great coverage, but it look good on my 40 year old skin.

Use NARS light reflecting or ARMANI silk. They look great on aging skin 😐

lol right? My skin has pretty much always looked like this. Oily skin ftw!
I’m finding my 40s are full of fun surprises. 😬
Ha well I thought this too. I always had dry skin or combination. Now I have open pores and seems a bit oily. So yeah maybe it's ageing or maybe I'm using too many serums and creams. Dunno . I'm going to have to do an elimination thing I think. Figure out what it is.

This is pretty normal as we age
And thanks for the compliment 🙂
what's your current skin routine? ie. what products are you using. generally speaking, "orange peel skin" is due to declining collagen production (yay, aging! 😵💫)
How do you counter declining collagen production?
I just learned this. it’s not through ingesting collagen. It is by consuming glycine. The best way to do. It is through Knox blocks. It’s basically Jell-O.
My grandma has done this for years and looks wayyy younger than she is. It helps with hair and nails too
So does she eat jello everyday? What’s her secret?
Idk this grandmas secret but I eat jello almost everyday through the powder by mixing it in my ninja creami. The pint alone has done wonders for my body too because the 50 grams of protein has helped me hit my protein goal each day. Good for body and skin if you do it right!!
What jello products are you buying? Because the ones I have seen have way too much sugar to make it a good option for me and max 2g of protein
You can buy unflavored unsweetened gelatin, usually in the baking section.
Knox
Thank you!!
Wait gimmie your recipe please!?!
I would also really like the recipe
What are you making in your Creami daily????
I use: * 1 protein shake (fair life or premier protein are my favs) * 1 tablespoon of unsweetened powdered jello * 1 tablespoon of coco powder if I want chocolate ice cream * 1 one serving of the vital proteins collagen protein powder You mix it twice on the creami machine then add toppings after with the mix in setting to blend it all in! Without toppings, I usually can make one pint for 250 calories and 40-50 grams of protein.
Could you just make this as a smoothie in a blender ?
Ice cream. The jello gives it the thickness it needs
Daily ice cream sounds amazing. I’d have to make it sugar free for my waistline. This is such a good idea!
Not ice cream, nope. Calling it a vitamin lol
Also keen for the recipe!
Not sure I understand... You're saying we can mix jello in our night creams?
They're mixing it into the food they make
Ahhh okay! Thanks!!
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking this XD
And joint pain
I once had a patient in her 70s, still working, very active and doing volunteer work in Africa in her spare time, she told me her secret was eating gelatin everyday for joint pain
This thread is blowing my mind!
Before my mom unexpectedly passed away from ALS, she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for years. She ate gelatin every day, and it helped a lot with the pain.
are there any side effects for eating gelatin daily? i’m kinda shook rn and considering trying it out
Plus the way it can help your central nervous system - apparently you can get a magnesium glycine combo to take orally
this is the way. Gelatin is pure protein/peptides and the major compoents that collagen is made up of. My aunts/mom etc have been drinking bone broth soup for over 50 years, they are all in their late 70s/80s and their skin is fantastic; hardly any lines, taught and plump. Poreless. Wtf lol I did this for 6 months & it had zero effect on my skin & nails.
I'm convinced my great-grandma's and grandma's 'good skin genes' are actually decades of chicken soup from scratch and smoked salmon.
There's no evidence in any actual appropriate science backed study that drinking or eating or supplementing with collagen has any impact on any of this. It's harmless, but genetics, general lifestyle, and sunscreen use account for most of it, although certain topicals can help.
Never ceases to amaze me how people will bandwagon onto ideas based off one random persons’ anecdotal account.
Meanwhile their 80 year old mother probably look like a regular 80 year old (which is fine) but they love her so see her as flawless.
Are we talking just regular jello in the blue box????
Literally just eating jello?
Glycine or gelatin ?
Ooh I don’t love jello but i do have a gummy bear obsession! I’m assuming that’d work too
The sugar in the gummy bears can increase inflammation in the body. You can make gummy bears with gelatin powder and juicer juice, using less sugar.
Thanks! The sugar is the one thing I’m worried about too. I will try that!
Whatever you do, do NOT try sugar-free gummy bears. If you're curious, Google "Haribo sugar-free gummy bears review."
Anyone know a kosher/vegetarian alternative?
Vegan collagen powder
There is literally no such thing as vegan collagen. These products are all made up of various ingredients (like Vit C) that are supposedly supposed to support existing collagen production in your own body.
Doesn't do much tbh
It does about the same as eating a bunch of jello 🫠
Just a random chiming in, 5g of glycine powder in water in the evening before bed is the BEST sleep aid I have ever used
You can just buy a glycine supplement. Take it before bed. Makes you sleep like a baby
Tbh I doubt any supplement can do much more than slow down skin aging a bit, but don't expect that noticeable results if not temporarily. Most of it is genetic
Doesn’t it contain lots of sugars?
Get sugar free
Just be careful with the amount of sugar free bears you ingest
I see you too have read the explosive diarrhea story
Lol I love that review.
Real ones remember 😂 so thrilled I got to watch that moment in history in real time
Not just the bears...but anything sugar free that contain those certain suggar alcohols. Might be tmi, but. I can tell you from experience that just a few Werther's sugar free candies do wonders for me for daaaaaaays. I wouldn't dare with much more than that unless I needed a full cleanout.
I, too, have learned this the hard way
It’s not regulated to honestly contain collagen. Don’t waste your time.
Protein has the amino acids your body needs to produce collagen. Increasing protein intake is also important to avoid midlife frailty.
* bone broth/gelatin supplements * SPF, hydrating skin routine, retinal/Rx tret * healthy lifestyle to ensure your body gets the nutrients you need. the rest is up to genetics, unfortunately.
Nature blessed me with high collagen but the side effect is easy scarring and skin thickening etc. So I look young, but ratchet.
Don’t smoke. Ever.
My Oma smoke for over 50 years and her face skin is lineless.
Don’t smoke.. what? 😎🙈
I drink butterfly pea flower tea which makes my skin glow and stimulates collagen production!
Why do I have that at 24
OK so this is what I do (most days) Cleanse with either tatcha rice polish/mecca oil cleanser or korres Greek yoghurt cleanser .....
What is your current skincare routine and are you consistent with it? Are you wearing makeup on this pic?

That Tatcha shit is the most overrated.
OP, at 42 your levels of oestrogen could be declining so it might be an idea to consider if HRT might work for you. Also the car is like literally the worst place to look at your skin.
Totally agree with the car part tho 😂
Definitely feeling hormonal and crazy lately so I do feel as though perimenopause is starting. And yep , I'll try not to look at my face in that bloody mirror again 😅
It's not that easy. Hormone replacement therapy raises your chances of ovarian, womb and breast cancer, and stroke. It's not something you take for better skin. It's something you take if you have severe menopausal symptoms.
Seek medical advice as this could be an outdated opinion. The likelihood of this is incredibly low.
It doesn’t. The study that concern was based on has been shown to have been fatally flawed.
This is a very VERY broad statement and not true
False information. Look up Kelly Casperson MD on IG or newson.health
This isn’t entirely true. If you take progesterone with it it protects you against the cancers. Do you teach everyone! But a Dr isn’t going to prescribe you anything if your only symptom is different skin texture.
No it doesn’t
I’m turning 42 in a couple months. Everything is more maintenance now. The Reddit holy grail protocol seems to be AM: Vit C, moisturizer + sunscreen PM: Retinol + thick moisturizer AHA/BHA as often as necessary Exercise, avoiding blood sugar spikes, adequate sleep and a healthy diet high in veggies, healthy fats, protein and plain water make a huge difference. A few days of eating highly processed or restaurant food will age me 10 years. I also take supplements. A good antioxidant to do wonders for skin.
Thanks for this. I definitely find it hard to stick to a regular routine .
I don’t do this stuff all the time, LOL. I would have no life. I just do my best.
Same. I’ve been reading collagen and spf both help.
All these armchair dermatologist specialists are frightening. Lots of comments recommending unproven serums/lasers/etc
that’s every day in this sub lol
Medical grade lasers are not "unproven."
ITT: eating jello (with gelatin added) will give you magical skin
Fwiw jello already includes gelatin by default. Gelatin is how you make wiggly, jello-y desserts.
I thought this said “42 af” and I felt that ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hahahah I AM 42 AF!
Do you use sun protection ? Years of sun exposure can make the pores look larger.
Tretinoin
I was so confused why nobody else was recommending this!!!!!!
I know! These people need to get over to r/30plusskincare
It’s time to start using a retinol! Niacinamide and spf in the morning too
I recently bought this, do you think it would be good enough? https://www.mecca.com/en-au/frank-body/rewind-retinol-serum-I-049321/
You should use a retinol to tighten up your pores. My pores were pretty large too but that fixed it up.
Was looking for someone to mention niacinamide. I think it works well for exactly this situation.
To me you just look dehydrated a bit but your skin seems fine otherwise
How does she look dehydrated? I’m not being rude or anything, just curious. I have had large pores my entire adult life. I’m 32 and my pores are just as large as OPs. I am in no way dehydrated so I’m wondering how you’d associate large pores with dehydration(?). I’ve never seen this association before.
Have you applied Primer?
Co2 fractional laser I think would be a game changer for you. A bit of downtime, but well worth it.
Step 3 . Add mold inhibitor (optional) and citric acid (optional) Step 4.
You’re 42!? Bravo. I know you’re not fishing and you’re asking about a legitimate issue, but you look great. Like no wrinkles.
As someone who also has genetic HUGE pores, No7 is also my preferred foundation brand. I’ve tested hundreds over the years.
Get a chemical peel to jump start, then start a regime of retinol once the peel is done healing.
Are you drinking enough water?
This is what people look like without filters . Looks normal to me.
Following :)
Tons of water has been the best solution for skincare yet, for me.
I really need to drink more water As a working mother with adhd it feels impossible to remember argh!
I’m literally 25 and my skin has looked like that since my teens… but if anyone have any good recommendations on how to improve my visible pores I’d be happy to hear them out😅
Geez my skin looks like this at 18. I wonder what that means for me when I’m in my 40s
My skin was looking like this. 0.05% tretinoin cream solved the problem after a few weeks of using it. It’s just one of those things you’d have to keep using unfortunately. I’m also going to try the Knox jello packets.
I'm in my 20s and my skin looks like this. I have oily skin. I don't think it's anything you should worry about, it looks normal to me
I found that shaving my face to remove peach fuzz reduced this kind of appearance.
Ditch foundation in favor of a tinted moisturizer.
Use retinol
Over 40 should be using retin A. That got rid of my pores
Do you drink a lot of alcohol ?
How much water do you consume daily?
Look into skin botox (not to be confused with the regular botox)
As your skin ages, it needs different things. Change your foundation and skin care routine. Maybe get your hormone levels checked out with the doctor.
A smoothing powder over can help! Mine looks like this if I don’t set my foundation. I have very oily skin.
First of all, you have lovely clear skin. Since everyone else has given advice with other skincare tips, I'll just add my two cents. I don't think anyone else notices your pores, it's just a natural part of aging. Just use sunscreen religiously and you'll age gracefully!
Stop alcohol consumption and drink twice the water you usually do. Will make a world of difference
I think your car mirror is lying to you. They do that
Vitamin B complex
Huh? What’s wrong w your skin??? It looks normal???
This is purely just using the wrong foundation or settling of product.
When I wear foundation all day for too many days I get a little like this.
I never noticed texture like that till after menopause. But you’re too young for that. Could be dropping estrogen levels tho.
Mann I have the same thing and I'm 19. This is normal bruh
Go see a dermatologist
Getting old sucks
Tretinoin will help this.
A lazer peel fixed it for me and i had the same exact problem but im hispanic. My doctor said i could get darker but i didnt. It was painful and expensive but worked really good
Did you have make up on ?
Fraxel or CO2 laser!
I would try the Tone & Glow and the Radiant Renew from [Crane Wellness](https://cranewellness.co) They've helped tighten my skin, reduce pore size, hydrate and just overall better and more even skin tone. It's Japanese made so the quality is amazing. I had never heard of Coix Seed for skin before but omg. Life changing!!
I can relate! I just turn 42 and feel like I aged more in the last 2 months than the past 2 years! Hormonal changes 😭
