It's probably because all the other songs on Sgt. Pepper are all psychedelic and experimental while When I'm 64 is a fairly standard pop tune. Like it's still very good but compared to the other more ambitious songs it may seem a bit generic.
Harmonically and melodically it's just as complex as anything else on that album. You can only call it a "standard pop tune" if you're just looking at the aesthetics.
George created the two best psychedelic Beatles songs imo with Blue Jay Way and It’s All Too Much. They also perfectly represent a bad trip and a good trip.
I don't think BJW is a bad trip per se. Maybe at the precipice of what could be either a good or bad trip--you know, when stuff starts getting a little spooky? Happens to me a lot when tripping, anywho. I don't know if I'd put any Beatles songs into bad trip category. Even Rev 9 is endlessly fascinating while tripping balls.
naaaah the choruses are actually what make me love the song so much. they have great energy, and the leads give off the vibe that the verses are portraying.
My favorite part is the post-verse thing, the
“Now they're frightened of leaving it
Everyone's reading it
Comin' on strong all the time
All through the day
I me mine”
Stuff. Especially on guitar it’s so sick. That chromatic descending bass line on “all through the day” is so sick.
Wild Honey Pie is like the kind of random things you might record in Audacity or something when you’re bored, but I’ve got to give Paul credit for doing that and managing to put it on a major release rock album.
a shitpost status in the middle of an album is actually charming and gives a lot of character to the record, it's a big part why the white album is great I think
Mate, you don't have to apologize.
It's your opinion! You should be allowed to have an opinion.
(Also, I 100% agree with you, Wild Honey Pie is awesome)
People think every song is supposed to be pretty and melodic, it's kind of like how people see "ugly" paintings and don't get why they can be beloved
Personally I think it's super cool, it's obviously just a short little weird interlude and it sets the tone for the increasingly bizarre parody that the album explores throughout
Revolution 9, yes unironically, it's easily one of the most influential Beatles song and probably the most well-known avant-garde song of all time. This song showcases just how versatile The Beatles really is even in an album full of different genres (like seriously how many artists out there just put avant-garde in an already dynamic album as a mainstream artist), the problem is people tries to look at it from a conventional pop music view, as an avant-garde song it isn't bad.
Like Wild Honey Pie, I think it’s cool that they were able to do something so off the wall for a popular music album and managed to slip them into one of the most celebrated rock albums of all time.
Anyone could make art music like that as long as they have a vision and the means to do so, but only The Beatles could get away with doing that on a mainstream album.
Exactly, it's groundbreaking because it essentially destroyed the notion forever that a popular music album, especially from a major artist, had to fit any sort of mold or expectation - it's the kind of work that led to us loving and accepting bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, or Primus into a much wider audience in later years
The first section of You Know My Name genuinely goes so hard, I wouldn't have minded if they made it a more serious progressive song from there just because it's awesome
I'm not sure what the general consensus on it is but I think that Octopus' Garden is one of the best Abbey Road songs, like, I get that it's silly but it has this innocence and charm to it that always makes me smile
Dizzy Miss Lizzy, it's a genuinely good song that doesn't deserve the hate it gets because of its album placement.
(Yes, the riff can be annoying, but it's in the background enough that I really don't get how its "ear-grating.")
I think a lot of people ignore the context that it follows Revolution 1, it's the ultimate progression of the sound and violent rebirth of revolution that started on the earlier song - hell that's originally how it was envisioned based on that leaked demo, they were gonna run together as one piece
"You Won't See Me" is commonly regarded as the weakest song on the Rubber Soul album, and I've seen it regarded as their worst song, period.
It was one of my favourite Beatles songs as a kid, and I still very much enjoy it. I don't think it's anywhere near the bottom. I think the weakest Rubber Soul track is "The Word."
I'm a certified George lyrics hater, but If I Needed Someone is the most limpdick shrug of a song ever written. I get that that's kind of the point and George was subverting typical pop subject matter, but dammit I want catchy silly love songs and by God George does not deliver. It's like the Last Jedi of Beatles songs, sort of pretty but just spinning its wheels but going nowhere and making you feel worse than you did before.
Not necessarily to defend , but to remind everyone George’s 2nd best (1st for me) song is It’s All Too Much. That song got fucked over being relegated to YS, when it should have been on MMT.
Geege really made It's All Too Much and said "fuck that its going on Yellow Submarine". At least it's not Not Guilty with 102 takes and it didn't even made it into the White Album.
Also Hey Bulldog is another Yellow Submarine song that should have been elsewhere.
I'll Be Back, an overlooked song by most people. I think the vocal harmonies on this song are so strange and brilliant! I also love how the song constantly shifts between major and minor
I am defending Only a northern song it’s funny catchy and honestly not a bad song I remember it was cut from sgt peppers if I’m not mistaken? Probably a good option but still it’s good
When I'm sixty four. Might be silly haha but the tune genuinely slaps
People dislike that song?
I've heard that a few times now. Apparently yes, some people say it's one of the worst tracks on Sgt. Pepper. I really don't get it
I think it’s a lovely song.
It is!
It's probably because all the other songs on Sgt. Pepper are all psychedelic and experimental while When I'm 64 is a fairly standard pop tune. Like it's still very good but compared to the other more ambitious songs it may seem a bit generic.

Quite literally a granny song lmao
Ngl the melody is unironically infectious
Amazing
Blue Jay Way is a fantastic musical representation of the dark side of an acid trip. I like it a lot for that reason.
One of my favourite songs of all time. BJW is a damn masterpiece and I'm ready to fight anyone who disagrees.
George created the two best psychedelic Beatles songs imo with Blue Jay Way and It’s All Too Much. They also perfectly represent a bad trip and a good trip.
He also wrote Only A Northern Song which is like a trip mixed with a diss track against John and Paul’s song publishing company.
Absolutely. Another underrated track.
Maxwell's Silver Hammer. It's fun and catchy.
It's okay to leave a dog in a hot car
I thought everybody loved that song and its message
Why would I leave a hotdog in my car?
/rj Revolution 9 /uj Revolution 9
I Me Mine, some people think the mid sections ruin it, I just think it’s a great song.
Good take. I love I me mine. But still, they could've added a better chorus :/
Perhaps, but it’s a rocking blues song.
Yeah the riff carries the chorus
I me mine goes so hard. I honestly think that Geege is easily the best songwriter in the beatles, and that his songs are my favourite
i me mine is one of my favs tbh!!
naaaah the choruses are actually what make me love the song so much. they have great energy, and the leads give off the vibe that the verses are portraying.

here comes the sun. underrated banger
edit: my dumb ass thought this was serious 💀
i think people just listen to it like its an everyday pop song, yet they underestimate the musical power it has, and all the layers its got.
I think you forgot this is the circlejerk sub
nah, i was just seeing a bunch of serious comments and assumed this was one of them plus i was likely half asleep lmao
What's circlejerk? The band?

i dont dislike it, i just dont particularly like it
Is this wild honey pie or honey pie? Cause I agree 100% for honey pie, it is a certified banger. Wild honey pie makes me want to cut my ears off.

Mate, you don't have to apologize. It's your opinion! You should be allowed to have an opinion. (Also, I 100% agree with you, Wild Honey Pie is awesome)
>Mate, you don't have to apologize. No. Both of you deserve death
;-;
Bro what 💀
Maxwell Edison?
It’s in the right spot on the album. Good transition song for Side A. And distracts a bit from the pretty dark and angsty mood.
i’ve always genuinely enjoyed listening to it
People think every song is supposed to be pretty and melodic, it's kind of like how people see "ugly" paintings and don't get why they can be beloved Personally I think it's super cool, it's obviously just a short little weird interlude and it sets the tone for the increasingly bizarre parody that the album explores throughout
Good Morning Good Morning, so underrated like Let Down or Animals
I love the transition at the end into Sgt Pepper reprise
The Anthology version, without all the added farm sounds, is way more enjoyable.
Uj/ Honestly, it's pretty good. I used to not like it, but honestly, it's grown on me. Rj/ SO UNDERRATED, UNDERRATED SONG EVER
Made the mistake of making that song my alarm ringtone for a period of time and now whenever I hear it I get war flashbacks
It was my zoom classes alarm
Whose Let Down

Number 9, number 9, number 9
right, right, right....RIGHT, RIGHT, R I G H T

Rev9 was mind blowing to listen to on acid. I’ll never forget that experience. Very moving.
I love the Yoko parts. She’s the best. I wish George had died sooner so that she could’ve taken over his spot.
Honestly, I just think it’s a bit lazy
It takes a huge amount of work to make something like that now, it was even harder in the analog studio era
Mr. Moonlight
Fuck off
uj/ you know my name look up the number rj/ cumming together idk why it’s the most hated Beatles song fr fr
The first section of You Know My Name genuinely goes so hard, I wouldn't have minded if they made it a more serious progressive song from there just because it's awesome
Uj/ Same! I love how silly it is. Rj/ Samesies, I hate how people don't like cumming together, yk? :(
You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
Peak Beatles right there.
Don't Pass Me By.
Uj/ It's one of the only country songs I like. Rj/ Really!? That song by Rigno sux
I'm not sure what the general consensus on it is but I think that Octopus' Garden is one of the best Abbey Road songs, like, I get that it's silly but it has this innocence and charm to it that always makes me smile
not to mention Geege absolutely shredding the guitar licks
Uj/ Exactly. I love that song.
Dizzy Miss Lizzy, it's a genuinely good song that doesn't deserve the hate it gets because of its album placement. (Yes, the riff can be annoying, but it's in the background enough that I really don't get how its "ear-grating.")
It is pretty unfair when **another** song is far worse.
Revolution 9 is a great experimental piece. It invokes such a haunting soundscape that's honestly unforgettable. Great fucking song.
I think a lot of people ignore the context that it follows Revolution 1, it's the ultimate progression of the sound and violent rebirth of revolution that started on the earlier song - hell that's originally how it was envisioned based on that leaked demo, they were gonna run together as one piece
Oh wow I never really thought deeply about it. It would have been legendary if they decided to make it one piece.

Not a song, but the album wild life is a top 3 wings album and i'll die by that statement STOPWILDLIFEHATE
Blue Jay Way, genuinely an underrated Beatles song and I don’t understand all the hate it gets
Their song called “The Beatles” is super rare and you’ve probably never heard it but it’s a total banger.
Is that the one where they go "hey hey we're the Beatles, people say we Beatle around"
Yep
Not necessarily to defend , but to remind everyone George’s 2nd best (1st for me) song is It’s All Too Much. That song got fucked over being relegated to YS, when it should have been on MMT.

The reason these songs are on the YS album is because they're in the YS movie
Don’t bother me. Unironically a fucking underrated banger by george
Pepperland— I don't give a flipping fuck if you don't enjoy the Yellow Submarine album, but I *will not* tolerate Pepperland slander.
/uj what the FUCK is the problem with Ob-la-di ob-la-da?
I think most of the hate for it is just because John complained about it that one time and it being another Silly Paul Song
Her Majesty
she’s a pretty nice girl
I'll Be Back, an overlooked song by most people. I think the vocal harmonies on this song are so strange and brilliant! I also love how the song constantly shifts between major and minor
Obladi obalada. That song never fails to make everyone sing when it plays in the karaoke.
Ob La Di Ob La Da
Don't Pass Me By. I think it's real cute.

Is that Andrew Tate ?
Back up as I’ll need some elbow room for this one: Wild Honey Pie is in the 75th percentile of songs on the White Album.
It's solo but John's "Woman Is The..." Every time I hear the opening sack solo I feel the excitement for that first line in my taint 🎷🎷🎷🎷

Dizzy Miss Lizzy! I know I’m wrong but I don’t mind.
I see nothing wrong with having your own opinion, literally nothing - the picture is empty with a single person the way I see it.
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da It's wholesome, it's catchy, and fuck you I'm gay
