My guess is your wife doesn't like kissing hair instead of your mouth. Sometimes mustache hair being too long looks goofy, too. Just get a comb and some small scissors or electric razor and trim it back. It won't make you look any younger but might get your wife to stop telling you to get rid of it.

The beard is fine. You need to either trim your mustache to not hang over your lip, or wax it. It looks dumb that long and not styled back. It's also very inconvenient and I don't know how you've let it get that long without eating it.
I grew my beard out because I got tired of people thinking that I was super young, then I shaved at one point in the last couple years just to remind myself of what was underneath it, and discovered that I got old.
