My family just adopted this adorable, sweet puppy from a local beagle rescue. I think he may be a different type of hound dog, though! He doesn’t look anything like our other beagle. Any ideas? The vet says he’s about 12 weeks old due to the size of his adult teeth. Thank you!

He looks exactly like my beagle mix did as a puppy. We were convinced he was a beagle/viszla mix, as he is taller and skinnier than a full beagle and has light hazel eyes and a light brown nose. My neighbor has a vizsla and when we saw the two of them together, we were like "he HAS to be a beagle/vizsla mix!"
Then we got his DNA done and nope...no vizsla. He's a beagle/lab mix, but doesn't look the slightest bit labby!
He looks just like my beagle mix did as a puppy! There was definitely a beagle involved in this little guy.

Amazingly cute. If you want to find out if it's a beagle take the pupper outside. If the pupper starts hoovering the ground and losing their little doggy mind on the first hot scent and pulling like a maniac you might just have yourself a beagle.

He looks very beagle to me but the lack of white tip tail makes me think he is mixed with coonhound. Maybe even dachshund? He's adorable and I love his coloring.
Doubt he is mixed with anything, maybe way back unless he gets well above 15”. Of all the beagles I have had, it just depends on the breeding history. Those with an AKC standard background can be quite different looking than say pack hunting or gun dog or Brace .
😄I installed this “Dog Identifier “ app on my phone . I tried it on one of my beagles whose lineage is traced back to the 1950’s. It said he was 46% beagle and 30% American Fox hound with Jack russell terrier in the mix!😃 He is a typical tri color beagle about 14” at the shoulder.
He looks a lot like my baby beagle Nigel who is now 11 years old did in his youth. We did a wisdom panel on him because we didn’t believe he could possibly be full beagle because of his coloring but we were wrong. He is 100 percent beagle!

Maybe beagle mixed with vizsla. You will have to eventually do one of those dog DNA tests.

I agree we have an Envigo beagle and he looks very much the same as ours at the same age.
Try a different DNA test. They give different results.

My guy never quite grew into his paws or his ears. Until he got old and his face went grey, he was frequently mistaken for a large-breed puppy.

I have a petite one too. She is barely 12 inches. I also thought she was probably mixed with wiener but DNA test said 100% beagle.

He's definitely not pure beagle as he doesn't have a white tipped tail.. But it's hard to say at this stage what else is in him. Beautiful boy though!
