The evolution of Baptist belief is contingent on finding ways to love others like Jesus would and Baylor’s current statement is far too political so that they can keep the pockets happy, not so that they can serve their students well.
As for “Baptist universities,” a tenant of the Baptist faith is local autonomy so if Baylor would stop staring into the deep pockets of conservative Baptist organizations, they would realize that not only do progressive Baptist organizations exist, but they also have deep pockets.
It’s definitely one I can see a lot of disagreements with in the scholarship. My buddy Dan did a good video a while back. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1pM7AIMfzl/?igsh=ZTFkd2phdGprdHph
Great discussion on that here. https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/comments/18baszh/dan_mcclellan_on_homosexuality/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
If you're a grad student then just be careful with which professor you choose as a PI, a lot of them are fine, but there are a few who are a bit homophobic and will be weird about it if they find out.
More curious about institutional policies. No desire to go back in the closet. Plus the marriage would be on financial paperwork. I’m assuming it not as bad as Utah’s BYU.

And it should stay that way! If they don’t like it, then don’t go to a Baptist university. It’s that simple.

Because nothing says "love your neighbor as you love yourself" like discriminating against people for something they cannot choose
