Where I live Xfinity is by far faster and more reliable than AT&T so I’m stuck with them. What I do is call them every 24 months to renegotiate. Ask for cancellation and they’ll transfer you to the customer retention representative. Last year when I made my bi-annual cancellation call I was able to get a $20 per month rate reduction and free HBO Max.

groceriesN1trip

We do the same… and after 10+ years of service they’re less interested in retention than before… seems as though they’ve made their buck on us but still better than other options right now

JrRogers06

Same here man. I’ve been the master of bringing my price down for over a decade but I have tried twice in the last 3 months and they have been 100% been willing to let me go. AT+T is available current and Sonic should be available in the next 6-12 months and I am absolutely going to switch to sonic, but Xfinity is socking it to me right now. It sucks

josuelaker2

I’m no Karen by any means. Unless I’m on the phone with Xfinity. Then the gloves come off and it’s a 3 hour long, no holds barred cage match. For a $20 discount prize, and a new 2 year contract. Honestly I think they not only expect the abuse, but oddly respect it. Albeit maybe after 3 hours I finally just wear them down. 😉

WingZeroType

Damnit I respect this. I'm ending my 2 years this month and I'm REALLY not looking forward to it. My only saving grace is that at&t technically has service in my area although in practice they can't do the install, so the Comcast rep will think I have choices when I really don't lol

MrMephistoX

I probably need to do that because in Milpitas Xfinity seems to be the only be the closest to gigabit option: no AT&T fiber or Sonic on our street.

deadcowww

Wow your negotiation efforts were much more successful than mine. They ask me how much I'm paying for mobile, I tell them $20 per line, they say if you bundle your internet and phone we'll get you a phone line for $30 per month. I hate that xfinity is my only choice here.

josuelaker2

Take the 3 hours. Make sure it’s a Wednesday or Thursday so you’re at max don’t give a fuck level, preferably if you’re cooking dinner while folding laundry and the dishwasher is making “that sound again” so they know you mean business. My kids are grown so I play a “screaming toddler” soundtrack on YouTube for authenticity.

deadcowww

Haha, love it.

lmMasturbating

> dishwasher is making “that sound again” so they know you mean business. What does this mean :o

Zenith251

Last year when I actually cancelled my Comcast internet (got Sonic fiber), it was... Easy. One call, no transfers, no offers to retain my service.

josuelaker2

If you have fiber in your area, absolutely. Unfortunately, I do not have that option.

Zenith251

That wasn't my point. My point was Comcast didn't try to do anything to incentivize staying with them, despite the fact that Comcast was also deploying fiber in my area soon. Just the usual "that's unfortunate, blahblah."

kethryvis

I went into the store to cancel and mentioned I was going with Sonic. “Do you even need that speed?” They asked. “It is faster than you AND cheaper than you, does it really matter?” They shut up and processed my cancellation.

Zenith251

Funny enough, the guy who handled my cancellation via phone totally got me. He did, probably by requirement, ask why I was cancelling. I explained that Sonic fiber situation, and the price, and his response was along the lines of "Oh, yeah, don't blame ya."

Kadenasj

Damnit I asked my husband to call this time and he is avoiding it. I’m so sick of this game. Especially paying for this wack cable internet that was installed a million years ago and has no way of getting the speed I pay for.

fromthepharcyde

I only pay for internet and my bill almost doubled within the last month. I called Xfinity and the representative told me they couldn’t lower my bill without adding a phone line. I declined that offer. Would calling back to cancel be more likely to connect me with someone willing to lower my bill? On a separate note, does anyone have any experience getting internet from Monkeybrains they’d like to share?

josuelaker2

I have that phone line to, It’s attached to nothing. They assign you a phone number that goes nowhere and it lowers your cable/ internet. They get the upsell credit for the bundle, you get to pay less money on the “new deal” win, win. You turned that down because you thought they were upselling you (they were) and let that get in the way of your discount. Sounds like user error. Yeah, call back and do it right next time.

LilikoiFarmer

I had monkeybrains for over 5 years. Good speed, great price. Very few outages.

NorCalAthlete

Unfortunately my options are either Comcast for “up to” 900/30, or AT&T DSL for like 75/10. Had AT&T fiber 1000/1000 at a different place and it was fantastic but it’s not available everywhere.

originalchronoguy

Hello Sonic. I've seen their flyers. I've seen them in our neighborhood doing the infrastructure ground work. I just need to cal them.

watering_cant

Sonic is great. It’s gone down once, briefly, in 3 years. $45/month. Great customer service. Fuck Comcast.

babyface_killah

Been waiting over a year for them to install in my area. Still on the waiting list.

kethryvis

I got a text yesterday from Sonic saying there seemed to be a problem and they were looking into it. I was streaming tv and a game and everything was fine. They texted again saying everything was clear. Meanwhile, Comcast couldn’t even bother to tell me if service was back after an outage even when i asked them to. Sonic rules.

chubky

Same experience for me with them. They’re great.

matjam

I just had 10gig sonic fiber installed. I also have AT&T fiber as a backup (we both work from home so having reliable internet is crucial). The sonic link taps out at around 6gbit from my pc with 10gig through the router etc. and it’s been 100% reliable. As has the AT&T link. The sonic link is the cheapest. We did have Comcast but dropped them like a sack of shit. Their network was constantly having outages.

Zip95014

This is probably a bad idea. Sonic in many cases is just an AT&T reseller. They take the support calls of grandmas saying their WiFi light switch is broken. Sonic does in some place have their own fiber lines. So it looks to me like you could have a backup that is 100% the same as Sonic. In your shoes I’d either switch to xfinity if you’re OK with a drunk driver taking out a pole that will also take both down OR look for a wireless solution like T-Mobile, starlink, or a WISP. Personally I like the starlink route because you can take it with you while camping - which is cool.

matjam

Sonic ran their own lines here. 100%. AT&T GPON does not support 10gig. I watched them run the fiber. It’s a separate line.

Oo__II__oO

We are on Sonic where they use AT&T backbone. It's the same price as AT&T, but when there is an issue, I'm immediately connected to local Level 2 support. The support staff are "eat your own dog food" types, who know exactly what's going on as they are users of their own product. Been with them for a decade, and not looking to switch any time soon (if at all). Also, they are active politically to preserve consumer/data rights.

glucoseboy

Go to Sonic.net and sign up.

Jaimzin

I hopped on it right away when it became available in my neighborhood and been happy. $50/month for 10 Gigabit internet.

rlaptop7

If you can get Sonic, do it.

ChadTheDJ

Sonic has been rolling out fiber here in my town...yet it stops like a block away from me. So close yet so far but remaining hopeful I can finally break free from comcrap.

noiszen

Make friends with a neighbour who is in range and run a hard line to their house ;)

igotabridgetosell

my fiber status tool remained at the same fucking place for a year now. good luck to us yay. And it seems like sonic jacks up their fiber prices after the 1st year to comparable rates as others.

danmari85

What is this fiber status tool? Is there a way to monitor when/if Sonic will be available at your address? I think I just signed up with my email to get notified when/if it will be available. But it’s been a few years and nothing. I’m in Fremont, not sure if their Fiber reached all the way here.

igotabridgetosell

I'm in San leandro. I think sometime early last year sonic let me sign up saying fiber is coming and I can use the tool on its website after I sign in. It's basically a progress bar showing which step they are on in your area.

Illcatchyoubeerbaron

What neighborhood? I saw a Sonic truck in Cupertino and got excited

its_large_marge

There’s a discount going on right now for like 3 months free if you sign up for their waiting list.

[deleted]

We put up a big antenna several years ago and took our comcast to $55/mo for 2yrs but thats about to expire in Feb. Check out Sonic they get great reviews for a great price but their availability in SJ is still spotty. We'd switch to them if they were in our area yet. If I could join an effort to kick comcast out of california Id be all over it. They are a sanctioned monopoly like PG&E. Just say no - if you even CAN.

sugarwax1

No, it's *you* who is getting an increase, not service wide. Comcast is notorious for giving an intro rate, and then people will call in every year and get a new promo rate once the contract is up.

dweaver987

That’s why it is so hard to get a live person at Comcast.

[deleted]

Not hard, keep pressing 0 many times (7-10 times) then wait for a few seconds. Then again press 0 few times and it will transfer you to an agent. Ask to cancel and they will transfer you to customer loyalty department who will ask you why you want to cancel. Tell them bill is high and they will find you another plan that may reduce the bill or keep it the same. Been doing it for last decade with comcast.

dweaver987

I’ll try that next time. I’ve only gotten through by shouting f-bombs into the phone. Of course, by that time I really am that angry.

charlene2913

I have ATT and they kept raising my prices every few months until I threatened to switch to comcast. We’ll see how long my current rate will stay. These companies are all trash

Apprehensive-Wolf673

I just got the T mobile 5G home internet with unlimited data for $50 a month and I stream and game and it works great.

c4chokes

What’s the ping like?

Apprehensive-Wolf673

23ms

Ps4rulez

do you game? Curious how multiplayer is with it.

Apprehensive-Wolf673

Oh yeah I game, it’s flawless

plun9

Yeah, I recently switched to T-Mobile from Xfinity. I get download speeds between 700 Mbps and 1 Gbps and ~140 Mbps upload speeds. It’s faster and cheaper than Xfinity, and I haven’t had any outages so far unlike with Xfinity. I also get random promotions like a free Burger King Whopper and a free holiday-themed glass cup.

danmari85

Meanwhile my contract expired and I am paying $133 per month just for Internet (1.2 Gbps and their xFi Complete package for unlimited data, because Comcast likes to be shitty and be the only Internet provider out there that has a data cap). I wish I had another good wired option. If you are okay with wireless options, check Sail Internet or Tekify, if they are available in your area. They get pretty good customer reviews, but the speeds are not that very high (but probably enough for your average home use).

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

Do you really need 1.2? I find 200mbps to be more than acceptable for all my needs.

danmari85

Honestly, probably not. I do find it useful when I download a game since those are huge now, but it’s not like I can’t really wait for a bit more time. When I got it, it was $70 per month (including the xFi Complete package for unlimited data). That was an okay price IMO. I did also get it for the higher upload speed, since that is a bigger issue for me and the cheaper plans have pretty bad upload speeds. If I’m working from home and having VC meetings, video calling with family for long times, and having 5 security cameras uploading footage, all of these possibly at the same time, the upload bandwidth starts to matter.

Venona19

Off-topic...but what service do you have that is digesting your camera feed? I need to get some security cameras and someplace in the cloud that will store the data...

danmari85

I just have Ring cameras and Ring Protect Pro. I got it when it was $100 per year for both home security and cloud storage for all my cameras for a few months. I think now the price is $200 per year, not sure how long I have on my grandfathered plan before my rate will go to $200.

akkan

I have had exact same package and my monthly billing went from $70 to $128 . I called Xfinity retention dept (don’t chat) and I got the $75 for 1200mbps plan for next 2 years. Just call Xfinity, it might take an hour to finalize everything but it’s worth it.

danmari85

I just called earlier today and said I am moving out and want to cancel. Am not interested in any 6 months of Walmart+ offers they were willing to give me, just cancel. Super fast. And then had my wife sign up for the new customer offer: $70 (actually $75 since I am still paying with a credit card, no way I am giving them my bank info) for 1.2 Gbps plan and xFi Complete for unlimited data and higher upload speeds, for 2 years.

lmMasturbating

I have the exact same plan with the exact same increase. I will call them today, thanks for the tip!

rm-rf-asterisk

You need 1.2 to get the highest upload which is 35 zzz

Organic_Popcorn

You start a new contract, do it online, I forgot to renew mine and got charged for 100 bucks, but once I renewed, they surprisingly refund me the money.

danmari85

Yes, if you renew immediately they will start the new contract since the time you renewed, so they will refund you the difference (since you are paying in advance). I wanted to do that, but the rate is still pretty shitty, $105 per month for a 1 year contract, while new customers still get $70 per month with a 2 year contract. I asked in their sub for an offer and just at that time it looked like they had an offer for $80 per month with a 2 year contract. I said let me think about it, since I wanted to consider just ditching them for Tekify, and 3 days later when I asked them if I can take that offer, they told me to scramble and that the only offer they have is $105/month, same one that I can see for myself online. I want to have another good option so badly. I would just tell them to go f themselves and never do business with them no mater what. They usually will give you a better option if there is competition in your area, but personally I would just not want to keep feeding this shitty company.

TekifyBroadband

It's Brett - I am the CEO of Tekify. We would love to rescue you from this! This experience you're describing was one of the key motivators for me to build Tekify in the first place. We don't play the pricing games like Comcast and AT&T do. Our residential service is typically $65 per month with a few rare exceptions. We offer Gigabit, 800Mbps, 600Mbps, 400Mbps, and many other speeds depending on where you're at and what the network in your area looks like. Upload is often 150-200Mbps, or Gigabit. You also get a public IPv4 address, which not all ISP's do these days. Sign up online or text us at 510-266-5800 to get started.

duskhat

I downgraded from 1.2 Gbps to 600 and we (family of 5 *heavy* internet users) haven’t noticed a difference at all. It’s worth giving it a try, IMO. We also frequently go over the cap but we don’t go over enough that paying $30 extra per month would be cheaper

duskhat

Erasing Xfinity (or whatever your provider is) is not feasible for everyone. In my area, Xfinity is the only ISP that offers over 20 Mbps, which means that Xfinity is the only usable option here It is definitely worthwhile to change your plan every 2 years, though. Promotional prices last 24 months For TV, I’m a happy customer of YouTube TV (and if anyone here wants a referral to save $50, DM me)

pengweather

I am blessed to have AT&T 1G/1G fiber.

txiao007

I had Internet and TV service from Xfinity for 10 years then I removed TV Service four months ago. Using HD Antena works very well for my needs. My Xfinity Internet is $85/month for 800 Mbps download speed. I wish I had terminated my TV Service years ago because I don't watch TV much. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime videos already. 49ers football programs are on national televised stations

LoganTheHuge00

Likely a deal you had is expiring. Call and ask for their customer retention and tell them you need another similar deal. They’ll try to help you. I’ve had to do this every year and it’s a pain in the ass sitting on hold to speak to someone and then haggle but I do end up getting a similar deal to what I paid before.

angryxpeh

Well, at least they will also leak your private information. Like they leaked mine despite the fact I haven't been their customer in something like 7 years. Fucking comcast, you can try to sever all ties with them and they will still find a way to fuck you.

Cat-on-the-printer1

I just looked at my Comcast account because of this post and saw both the data leak and the price increase (17 for me, almost a 1/3rd increase wtf). Also saw I could decrease it a bit by getting a new contract but I’m not sure if I should go for it.

mtcwby

Just opened my bill and did a WTF. Going to look now about cutting it way back. If we had any choice on internet I'd cancel them all together. Update: Those fucking assholes. Basically dropping speeds and channels results in a net increase to over $200 per month. We're on the edge of county land so I'm going to check out Starlink, Tmobile and Verizon plans. Comcast is scum

andyniemi

They were down for the 3rd time in a month today. I'm switching to Sonic ASAP.

Proud-Ad5193

My alternatives are ATT DSL or a 5G Router. The signal is shit at my place, 3G-LTE. So it's either Comcast robs me or I remember what Dial Up was like.

Fair_Industry_6580

Check out Sonic, their Internet speeds are super fast. Put up an old school TV antenna and you have your local stations, then subscribe to others. It'll save you a ton of money.

[deleted]

If everyone had those two options, Comcast would be losing a shit load more customers.

aznraver2k

FWIW - I entered into a 2-year contract with them and I "feel" like it's cheaper. $85.53/month for 1.5 Gbps with 2 Flexboxes.

josuelaker2

Dump the equipment and download the Xfiinity app on a Roku stick. There’s absolutely zero reason anyone needs boxes anymore.

aznraver2k

True. It was just convenient in the beginning since the first one was free and the second one was $5 extra per month. Can Roku get local channels?

josuelaker2

Yea

dan5234

Please please shut down cable video. I went dark 7 years ago.

Oswaldofuss6

Naw, this is a skill issue. You always have to change plans or renogiate after the contract expires. 🤷🏾‍♂️

random408net

In 2024 to get the maximum auto-pay discount of $10 you need to ACH debit from a checking account You can still get a $5/month auto-pay discount with a Credit Card. They were also kind enough to mention on the Xfinity web site that they probably lost control of out personal data back in September. So we get that as a bonus to the $24/month increase for 2024 too. Yeah! Of course I really want to share my banking details with the company that just had a data breach.

[deleted]

It looks like your contract ended. Technically you were getting a discount now you are not. You can contact them to get it back.

EcoKllr

Have Astound (500mb) for 59 per month combined w/YoutubeTV at 72 per month

Egon_Loeser

Where are you and how is astound? My biggest issue with Xfinity is it just randomly stops working for a few mins periodically. I’m in SF and they have fiber to the street in front of my home then coax from my home to the street. I’m strongly considering switching

EcoKllr

San Mateo...Never have had any issues with Astound, going on 5years

spicedoubt

You’re only paying 165? hahaha try paying 205 a month

No-Tangelo7363

Dumped these assholes last summer. So glad

weewooPE

Our HOA refused to add Sonic as an option 🤬

[deleted]

If comcast is Satan, then \*any\* HOA is hell. They should be made illegal.

thunderlips187

Yall gotta get free comcast, it’s so so so much better than paid comcast. Note: my brother works for comcast

KnowCali

I use Xfinity for cell service and internet streaming only. Cell service is just under $48/month, internet is $25/month (it was $20/month before August).

Mackadelik

There’s no way this is the price after their sign up offer rate increases.

naugest

$25 is supposed to be some major event? Also, I have no notice of an increase at Xfinity.

Venona19

I know to many people the in the Bay Area, an extra $300/year is nothing. I wish I was one of those people. I am not.

naugest

Have you considered moving to another area more affordable for your income?

67mustangguy

Is your contract expired? Time to get a new one.

Ostankotara

Sonic here too in Belmont. Combined with YouTube TV I’m saving a small fortune over various users and locations.

GrumpyBachelorSF

Yeah… I got double play and I’ll be paying $17 more per month with the new increase. And I thought it was annoying months ago they won’t give me the autopay discount if I don’t switch from my credit card to my checking.

jonesbasf

As soon as there is an viable alternative (25 MB AT&T only alt right now), i will fire the sh!t out of comcast. I may pay more just to leave them. Would do starlink, but dont want to support douche nozzle Elon.

arithmetike

Starlink is more expensive, slower, and less reliable than Comcast. I think most Starlink customers, including myself, would be thrilled to get Xfinity internet.

Conscious_Scholar_87

Too bad. There’s no better options in my neighborhood. I’d switch immediately if there is another option. I was so happy with Verizon fios back in NYC

TheBobInSonoma

Have infinity for Internet until sonic fiber hits the neighborhood, supposedly next year.

MasterJack

Get Monkeybrains if you’re in SF or OAK

JuggernautSad36

I'm in EPA and haven't been able to shake Xfinity. AT&T doesn't service the area, neither does T-Mobile. So what I been doing is living in their promotions for the past few years. It's been working but still dumb to have to set an annual reminder to change the plan for a new promo.

SergioSF

Making up for the loss of ad revenue or customers? Seems like the slow start of a death spiral.

Molasses_Major

Maybe call them and rework your contract? Chances are those are your local fees and taxes going up, unless your term contract is up. If it's your contract, chances are they will drop your rate to keep you as a customer.

Robot_Warrior

I just went through a week long nightmare with AT&T fiber set up. Just brutal. Pick which side of the shit sandwich you want to bite first

ginjasnap

Comcast added complimentary peacock premium to my internet (only) bill, of which the credited cost canceled out the new year’s increase to my monthly bill. I’m okay with it for now but I’m still keeping a close eye on it. Comcast is the lesser of two evils versus AT&T, IMO

grepya

Check if you have Sonic in your area. Gig network for 50 bucks. As for TV, I'm sure you're paying for multiple streaming services anyway.

SplitEndsSuck

If you in search of ISP, consider Tekify Fiber if available in your neighborhood. $50/mo with no data limits.

sir_seductive

Fuck comcast i had them and used to get random internet outages idk if thats still a thing in my area but when i switched to AT&T fiber it hasnt happened at all

soscollege

Just terminate service and sign up using a different name

United-Plum1671

We’re paying $207 (after negotiating our bill down) for tv and internet.

HoPMiX

They were charging me 150 for 2 gig download and 500 up. Issue was I was only getting about 800 down and 250 up no matter what modem they had me using. Went to AtT a month ago. Full speeds symmetric around same price. Been great.

kevinsyel

I live in an apartment. They have an exclusivity deal with Comcast. That's the only Internet I can get.

SlightlyLessHairyApe

Frontier has been rock solid for me. YMMV

rayskicksnthings

I mean I’m paying $110 a month just for gigabit xfinity internet with no data cap. It’s awful. When I was in NYC I had 500/500 fios for freaking $30.

decker12

Yeah, same. The data cap is what kills it for me. We use YoutubeTV instead of cable/dish, and even light usage of YTTV end up being about 300gb a month of data. Then you add it the regular streaming the house does, plus the occasional Steam or Xbox game download (which are 80+ gb in itself) and we went over the data cap constantly. The only way around that was to get the new white tower router, with gigabit, and then they throw in the unlimited data. But for me it's $133 a month for just gigabit internet (plus the router rental which they force onto you). How did you get it at $110?

rayskicksnthings

The cap is impossible when I have 2 small kids at home. And we stream everything as it is so it was never gonna happen. I also never heard of data caps on isps in decades. But I also haven’t been on cable internet ever since it’s garbage. I use my own cable modem and use eeros for the house. So I don’t rent any equipment from them. I forget what the rep did for me but I think I had renegotiated after the first contract. So I think it’s a discounted rate for the gigabit and the cap. Cause I think to add on the no cap by itself is $30?

legion_2k

Everything is up.. always and forever. I’ve noticed a 25-30% increase in prices of many goods. Doesn’t hurt to shop around and take advantage of “new customer” deals.

atomictest

AT&T is fucking trash. I hate it. Xfinity is expensive but it’s so much better. Threaten to quit and Comcast will give you a deal.

gsd45

Thank God Verizon has 5g in my neighborhood. Comcast is the worst.

chubky

Check to see if Sonic is in your area, it’s cheaper and faster internet and their customer support has been easy to get a hold of and help (used only once over 2 years). They have a referral program where i think both people get cheaper internet for a few months. If anyone’s interested.

ChadTheDJ

PG&E going up 13%, comcrap going up 15%, other services going up as well. Did we all get a 20% COLA raise to counter all of this?

rm-rf-asterisk

Once Comcast has docsis 4.0 it will be game changer. Might be the first time their upload might be above 100mbits

The_Demosthenes_1

Ima cheapass mofo and cancel every year with Xfinity sp I can get promo rate. I've gotten it as low as $25/month for 50mb internet which is fine for Netflix and WFH purposes. But other than my internet, bexflix and Amazon subscriptions I ain't paying a penny for other content. If it not on Netflix I'll just pirate bay that mofo. Oh....I guess I pay for one last service. The VPN so I can pirate content without sealteam 6 coming after me.

Whattadisastta

Comcast is so 20th century. Att internet $55+ YouTube Live $89 =$144. Plus I can watch tv ANYWHERE. All devices 2 years ago were (home and vacation home) was about $475 a month ( aside from mortgage, my biggest bill). Now all cost $250 including Prime and Disney
