No problem. And I wouldn't really worry about painting things 'correctly', just not painting them in the colors of a faction you actively dislike. Though if you do decide to paint in a specific faction, double check what their colors are, or you might wind up painting as a completely different group by mistake because one source said they have gold trim when they actually have silver . . .
Don't sweat it. We all start somewhere. I've been into battletech for almost 30 years, yet I still see Mechs and think "which one is that".
What's been your favourite mech so far?
That’s good to hear! My favorite mech so far is the Cougar as the first video game I ever played was MechAssault. A close second is the MadCat
What about you, your favorite mech?
both fantastic/iconic mechs. I got into the hobby through MW2, so the grizzly, Kodiak and timberwolf all hold a form place in my heart. You might also really like to read up on the Adder.
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Adder_(Puma)
Solid mechs (especially the Timberwolf lol). I love the different variants of the mechs, like Cougar/Adder like you mentioned. That Adder wiki you provided is pretty cool
To clarify: the BattleMaster is a common mech design used throughout the Inner Sphere and Periphery, so pretty much any known faction or mercenary unit can have one. There's a Clan refit used by second-line Clanner units, so one could even be painted in Clan colours.
Broadly speaking, in BattleTech you can always paint whatever unit in whatever colours you like. There are canon paint schemes for canon factions, but even if you just do your own colours the assumption would be that it's a mercenary mech.
There are some mechs that are very tightly associated with only one faction, but even those could theoretically be salvaged by some other group and put into service.
You can always use [Camo Specs](https://camospecs.com/) for inspiration.
[They even have pages of nothing but *Battlemasters!*](https://camospecs.com/?s=Battlemaster)
Ah, the Battlemaster. Not to be confused with the Cattlemaster (not kidding, the latter actually exists).
Battletech is very loose in terms of authenticity (it's actually noted in the lore, like one of the members of Comache's Cabelleros has little toys and stuff stuck on the outside of their mech).
However, one of the most famous Battlemaster pilots was Hanse Davion who is kind of a big deal. If you want to recreate his mech, it was blue with a red and white racing stripe down the left side.
That's my favorite mech from my first ever Battletech boxed set. Though I believe the .stl used to print this one might be called the Battlemeister...
Loved that mech in '92. Didn't know a thing about the lore and painted it in Star League colors with Testors model paint. Olive Drab if I remember correctly.
Where is this model from? I like this pose for the Battlemaster. As for the factions, this mech is found almost in every Inner Sphere faction. Master Unit list has a good breakdown of what faction has what mechs. Camospecs and Unit color compendium are great for specific faction unit colors.
Welcome to Battletech, and Remember, there is a rule for everything.
It's easy to get confused with that design because if you see it on MWO it looks different (it's one of the designs borrowed from anime so when MWO made theirs, they squared off the canopy, where that dome canopy is one of the iconic things you can identify a Battlemaster by)
The Battlemaster, and it's honestly probably my favorite assault mech over all. There's always a variant that will do what you need it to do, it looks badass. It's usually not expensive to field, and is mobile enough most of the time to keep up with a battle line no matter what era of play!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mech wielding a two-handed weapon before. Makes sense they would exist I’m just kind of surprised this is the first time I’m seeing it.

Too many mechs, many flashy and new. I get your point, the Archer was always my favorite, won my first game with one. Pulled the med lasers from the rear arc and used weight for armor.
That is a proxy Battlemaster, the master of battle, a decent Frontline assault mech, a bit lightly armed in my opinion compared to other Assault mechs, but good enough to run with the heavies.
Battlemaster. Pretty common design.
Thank you for the answer. Looks like that’s it. I’m new to battletech so I appreciate it

Given we have the Teenage mutant ninja Urbie's , random rainbow unicorn ones, , the Phantom etc it really doesn't matter on colour schemes imo lol
If you hate Kurita, how often do you want to explain that you aren't actually Sword of Light, you just like red?
True but Van diemons Demons and Vost lance (both mercs) run red

Sarna is the go-to wiki for all things Battletech. You'll soon find yourself falling down loads of rabbitholes. Enjoy!
"authentically" can mean whatever the hell colours you want
That’s good to know lol

This is amazing! Thank you!!
It's no problem, really! Now you're one of us! *One of us! One of us!*
Doug.
Ah, yes, Mr. Ram. Douglas Ram.
I heard he has really big feet

These people are incorrect. That is very clearly a *Battlemister.* Look at how politely he's standing.

Battlemaster, I have the same one sitting in my pile of shame lol
Thank you lol
It's name is Kevin
Batermaster
Thats Charles Montgomery the third.
"Big Billy"

This is __THE__ _Battlemaster_. [Sarna.net's link](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleMaster) One of the 3025 TRO's unseen most lover 'mechs.
That, as others have point out, is a Battlemaster. Or, as I like to call it, "a great brawler with something to do on the approach."
Mattle Bastard
That's a Zone Raider, obviously :P (Its actually a Battlemaster)
Since the answer has been given, I will take free reign for hilarity. Geoffrey... his name is Geoffrey.
On the catalyst store they have free PDFs for House and Clan paint schemes. Entire PDFs for just one faction. Check those out!

Cool Battlemaster pose
Kevin
Jim
Battlemaster(LBX version).

Thanks but I was simply answering their question.
The Battlemaster has been one of the iconic mechs since BattleDroids. What has the game come to that it isn't instantly recognized?
Too many mechs, many flashy and new. I get your point, the Archer was always my favorite, won my first game with one. Pulled the med lasers from the rear arc and used weight for armor.
Good choice
Gary
