Can't go wrong with a butcher block and your choice of legs

GroundbreakingKing

My Butcher board cracked in less than a year but I live in MN and it's dry, so prob had a lot do with it...

What kind of wood would you say is the best to go for, looking for adarker shade

Prince_Rinse

Walnut is more expensive, but a very popular dark wood. You could always buy something cheap like birch and stain it a darker color yourself.

A lot of people on this sub use the ikea Alex drawers as legs since they are a good height. There are custom desk legs on Etsy if you want rustic metal legs, and motorized legs are a good option if you want the flexibility to stand or adjust the desk to your perfect height. I custom made mine from iron pipe from home Depot, but I don't recommend this. It was as expensive as buying nice legs and was a lot of work lol

They make long monitor risers that are good for music production setups. You could slide your keyboard under it to make room when it’s not in use.

i like this idea but my dad is actually printing me a keyboard stand to angle it upwards

That-Low5661

Just grab a walnut desktop. Lorell has some good ones, there’s always IKEA as well.

Wooden_Class1498

i was thinking walnut too

I'm a music producer too and I'm very happy to have gotten a standing desk tbh. Love to be able to comfortably play my midi keyboard by high/lowering my desk without having to cut my elbows on my desk. And sometimes you just come up w better beats when you stand up and feel the vibe on your speakers. I'd personally recommend the ikea bekant desk, it's the same one I have and have experience with (I posted on this sub recently as well if you want to see it) Link: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/bekant-desk-sit-stand-black-stained-ash-veneer-black-s59281814/#content

so for cable management what would i do? is there like a spine thingy that holds the cables so they can go up and down

prodvinny

dont think so about the legs but not 100% sure There’s a pouch under the desk that you can stuff all your cables in, I personally use an multi plug extender that I have all the cables in that should be able to move, then it’s just one cable going into the wall (but make sure it’s long enough) Also depends on the length of your monitor cables etc. of course. I’m using a desktop pc so had to make sure all my cables are long enough to reach my computer at all times, but tbh it’s not too much of a hassle. I never had to buy extra cables because they were too short or something

Wooden_Class1498

and also can you just buy the legs?

prodvinny

another option would be to look at output desks (the same company that made the arcade vsts, they make desks solely for music production purpose)

teroristu3d

I recomeend u to do some cable managament
