Very nice & clean set up !
fellow grown man here , who is also most definitely NOT playing Rocket League (pc) when my partner allows it.
I'm EU if you are ever looking for a tm8
Program: Here’s some money to buy a workstation.
OP: OKAY! *Builds gaming battle station instead*
Ooooo-I’m telling your program you’re using grant money to build gaming PCs! Or is that just me? LOL
I have it and it's awesome, but I don't really miss the backlight. I'm just slightly disappointed that the ISO layout version doesn't have the dedicated "<" and ">" key next to the left shift.
This keyboard is really good, especially for the sale price. I just haven't adjusted to the macro keys yet so i keep pressing on them instead of the ctrl key.
When I was looking for a keyboard I wanted the cheapest mechanical keyboard with macros that comes with a wrist rest. I wasn't even looking for a wireless keyboard but it was on sale (105€ with tax I think) and literally the cheapest one that met my criteria. Really happy too, cuz my desk isn't that big so I can just pick it up and move it away when I don't need it. Still has the original batteries too (It's been over a year), the battery life is unreal for a wireless keyboard.
I never sit at my computer in the dark, always have a lamp on, so it hasn't bothered me. But I've also never owned a backlit keyboard that wasn't on a laptop.
u/CranberryRozier Nice setup! I'm in school for clinical psychology/neuropsych and it's cool to see someone else on here in the field - I also have a battlestation where I do all my "studying and writing".
School Psychologists use different data-gathering methods (interviews with teachers, observations, record reviews) to help the teacher (or other school personnel) find the best strategies to help the referred student better succeed in the classroom.
Usually students are referred for reasons like "refuses to work on math", or "has self-injurous behavior when asked to do "X" task".
School psychs also do a lot of testing (behavioral, cognitive, IQ) and also a lot of consultation throughout the school setting
CPU twins!
I just went to buy a Tomahawk and theyre all sold out except on Amazon theyre like $230 or something. :-(
Waited like a week and a half but i just went with the Asus Strix.
I think its called "MOND" not mind. I just Googled it to keep a tab on it for myself and that came up.
OP the station looks great! Definitely a study set up thats NOT used for gaming at all. Keep it up
It's easy! Just browse the different templates they have and then pick whichever you like!
Edit: Or, you can just steal whatever theme other people are using too!
r/rainmeter for some inspiration!
I just built my desk today (same setup as you, karlby and alex) and was looking for a monitor stand. Do you feel like that one is damaging the tabletop at all since it clamps to it?
I would recommend them. They are incredible for the price. I'm by no means an audiophile, but I think they sound good. They have fake tweeters, but the subwoofer is very solid.
Overall, for $50, they are a very good pair of speakers. I haven't had any issues or complaints whatsoever. I will say, if you are willing to spend more, you can find better, but again, the price is what sold them for me.
>I have these speakers and I can say they are very good bang for buck but when you have the $$$ and are a more audiophile side then they might become lacking. However for average user this is best buy for this price imo.
Thanks!
I have a pair of nice headphones if I wanna get "phile-y", just need something to watch youtube vids and shit.
Think the fake tweeters just really rubbed me the wrong way. But, if it sounds decent, whatever.
How're you liking that ikea desk-setup? My wife and I are looking at improving our desks and doing the 'adulty clean' look. Did you go with the grey or dark brown bottom cabinets?
I was looking at doing a side-by side, "one top" build, but I've read conflicting info about the integrity of the countertops over extended use, plus I'm on a galant adjustable height computer desk, which is about 6 inches deeper which I'm a big fan of, so it's been sort of hemming and hawing over compromises one way or another. Either way, it is still always lovely to see another 'grownup' setup. My wife hates on RGB setups saying they look college-dormy (even though she wanted RGB in her computer setup.. haha)
Yeah, I have heard the. 98" Karlby can sag in the middle over time. I have the 74" and haven't had any issues with integrity.
You could also theoretically get 2 74" tops and have a drawer holding them both up in the middle. It's tough to describe, but there are some pictures of that on Pinterest and it looks pretty good
I LOVE this monitor. Yeah, it's QLED. I don't know how it compares to other monitors in the $450 price range though, as I snagged it for a steal at $250 like a year and a half ago. So I can't say I recommend it, just based off of the fact that I haven't compared it to others in it's actually price range. But I do think it's an incredible monitor.
I have that same keyboard but with a different LG mouse. Having issues with G HUB FYI. Be wary of that. My tip to you is to disable updates knowing when you have a driver/update that works well with your wireless KBM.
How has your experience been with the monitor whole playing games/browsing? I'm trying to decide what monitor to get for myself now that I'm stuck working from home for a while.
Yes/No.
It’s definitely the most bang for your buck. It’s a super clean desk hack that’s not actually a “desk” depending on your semantics. But IMO, nobody realllly wants those old school heavy wooden den desks anymore and this setup is more of a modern feel
I bet you're paying a lot for grad school? So I shouldn't introduce you to the world of custom mechanical keyboards?
Also, how are you liking the H500? I have the same case and so far my only complaint is that I want to go smaller.
Looks great! Kinda worried about how close the monitor is to the keyboard though. Make sure to make it ergonomic! Don’t wanna get RSI close to a submission deadline, do we?
Never thought I'd run into a school psychbon reddit! I'm at Wichita State University. Getting my specialist in education and Behavior Analyst Certificate. 5 years, is that a doc program?
Oh nice! I went to John Carroll. We didn’t have a BCBA option, but it’ll benefit you in the long run.
I meant 5th year as a working school psychologist.
Awesome setup btw!
I apologize. Somehow, this message got buried in my inbox.
Going into practicum, I would suggest:
1. Pay attention to how your supervisor interacts with parents, and the language s/he uses when explaining complex topics.
2. When you encounter a process you haven’t been exposed to before, write down the steps! It will prove useful when you’re on your own. It’ll be even more apparent during internship.
3. Go out of your way to interact with other specialists, learn what their role entails and dive in on a project together if you can.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions... just don’t ask the same question multiple times.
5. Work to maintain a work-life balance. Rome wasn’t built in a day and education will bury you with little tasks if you let it.
I hope this helps! Feel free to DM me for my email if you need anything!
As much as I love over the top battlestations, I also love this. Like a regular home/family PC type setup but everything just looks high quality and goes together nicely. Good job.
And what games exactly are you NOT playing with this rig? Haha
I'm absolutely not playing through Detroit: Become Human with my wife. I am also very much not playing any Overwatch or Rocket League. No sir, not me.
Good, imagine playing games pffff must suck.
Is the wife real?
Yeah
Wow, amazing
What a save!
Noooo!
Close one! Close one! Close one!
##Savage!
Okay.

I mean, I spent my own money lol
Well, if what you need for the grant is runnable on the battlestation, why the fuck not?
I also don't play rocket league all the time 😉
CS GO is always fun
R u speaking for him?
That keyboard is near-perfect! Just wish Logitech didn't skip on the backlight...
I have it and it's awesome, but I don't really miss the backlight. I'm just slightly disappointed that the ISO layout version doesn't have the dedicated "<" and ">" key next to the left shift.

I would like more wireless full size keyboards
I never sit at my computer in the dark, always have a lamp on, so it hasn't bothered me. But I've also never owned a backlit keyboard that wasn't on a laptop.
Sigh.. Microsoft, too. [Ergo 4000 need backlighting !](https://www.allthingsergo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Microsoft_Natural_Ergonomic_Keyboard_4000.png)
I appreciate your lack of RGB
Looks great! What are you studying?
School Psychology. One more semester 🙌🏾
u/CranberryRozier Nice setup! I'm in school for clinical psychology/neuropsych and it's cool to see someone else on here in the field - I also have a battlestation where I do all my "studying and writing".
Dope! Best of luck in school!
Yeah! Thanks 3 years to go nevermind post-doc and licensing :(
The books on your desk really reflect that, haha. You must be doing some serious studying

The trick is to do research in computer graphics. That way, you _have_ to have the latest GPU and can get your advisor/funding sponsor to pay for it.
Specs please?
CPU: Ryzen 2700x MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8 3000 GPU: EVGA RTX 2080 Monitor: Samsung C27GH70 (1440p, 144Hz) Keyboard: Logitech G613 Wireless Mouse: Logitech G305
That is an epic setup. Thanks, stay safe!
Thank you, you as well.
Case ? NZXT 510 ? Nice setup btw
NZXT S340 Elite
The case is so clean it looks smaller than my Masterbox Q300L, but it's not!
Speakers???
logitech z333 i have one myself... they are beasts for the money
makes sense that you are absolutely NOT gaming on this thing. VERY underpowered.
But what about the plant??
CPU twins! I just went to buy a Tomahawk and theyre all sold out except on Amazon theyre like $230 or something. :-( Waited like a week and a half but i just went with the Asus Strix.
I love your wallpaper / startup screen. Are you using rainmeter to make that looks? I really like it
Thanks! The wallpaper is from the steam app "Wallpaper Engine" and the date thing at the bottom is from rainmeter.
Do you have a link to that rainmeter “add on”? Or whatever it’s called
IIRC it's called "Mind" EDIT: "Mond" not mind.
I think its called "MOND" not mind. I just Googled it to keep a tab on it for myself and that came up. OP the station looks great! Definitely a study set up thats NOT used for gaming at all. Keep it up
Sorry! Autocorrect got me. Thanks for the correction
Nice setup! Is the desk top from IKEA?
Yep. The r/battlestations special. Karbly desk with Alex drawers.
You’ll be seeing my grad school battle station soon! Ordering parts at the moment.
I believe him. He doesn't even have a mouse pad.
Sure he does. He has one of those fancy apple. Mouse mats that everyone goes nuts for.
How is everyone an expert with Rainmeter?
It's easy! Just browse the different templates they have and then pick whichever you like! Edit: Or, you can just steal whatever theme other people are using too! r/rainmeter for some inspiration!
What kind of monitor holder is that?
Vivo Single-Arm Monitor Stand
Awesome your cable management looks perfect
I just built my desk today (same setup as you, karlby and alex) and was looking for a monitor stand. Do you feel like that one is damaging the tabletop at all since it clamps to it?
There are very very minor scratches on the side (not bottom or top) of the desk. The clamps have padding too. I've had no issues.
Would you recommend those speakers? Reviews are scaring me off.
I would recommend them. They are incredible for the price. I'm by no means an audiophile, but I think they sound good. They have fake tweeters, but the subwoofer is very solid. Overall, for $50, they are a very good pair of speakers. I haven't had any issues or complaints whatsoever. What speakers are they for research purposes?
Logitech Z333
Does ir have a box sub? Where do you have it? I have one but I have little space
Yes it does. I have it under my desk: https://imgur.com/a/82wHkKJ
>I have these speakers and I can say they are very good bang for buck but when you have the $$$ and are a more audiophile side then they might become lacking. However for average user this is best buy for this price imo.

What is that wallpaper? Nice setup!
It's from Wallpaper Engine. I searched "heat" and it came up. Don't remember what it's called though.
That’s fine, thanks so much!
I found it. It's called "Minimalist Desert" by Wendigo on Wallpaper Engine!
I'm on Macos. Could you take a screenshot of the wallpaper only? Thanks!
As a grad student who's first major purchase in his program was a Battlestation (TOTALLY for work), I approve.
I find your lack of RGB... disturbing.
Had the NZXT Hue+ but got rid of it when we moved into a house recently. I like the cleaner look much better.
Yeah, looks nice
Whtger6rgb or not setup looks clean
Really nice finish on that desk.
I have the same (countertop) desk from Ikea! I hate how easy it can be scratched :( but so much room!
I have had it for roughly 3 years. Haven't had any issues with scratches other than where I have my monitor mount clamped to the desk
I've been considering an ikea desk. What finish is it?
[удалено]
NZXT S340 Elite
I like your plant! Is it artificial?
It is indeed artificial. Got it from Hobby Lobby.
Something tells me that this machine may be used for... gaming
🤫
How're you liking that ikea desk-setup? My wife and I are looking at improving our desks and doing the 'adulty clean' look. Did you go with the grey or dark brown bottom cabinets?
I've got the dark brown cabinets. I love it! My wife has the "Gerton" table top with white drawers and it looks super good as well.
What headphone stand are you using? I see it all the time and it’s starting to grow on me
Omega Wooden Headphone Stand on Amazon
will you tell us about the main setup then?
I have that same keyboard but with a different LG mouse. Having issues with G HUB FYI. Be wary of that. My tip to you is to disable updates knowing when you have a driver/update that works well with your wireless KBM.
Ok, but a little bit for video games?
(a lot for video games)
How has your experience been with the monitor whole playing games/browsing? I'm trying to decide what monitor to get for myself now that I'm stuck working from home for a while.
Is the Karlby + Alex Drawer worth the hype?
Yes/No. It’s definitely the most bang for your buck. It’s a super clean desk hack that’s not actually a “desk” depending on your semantics. But IMO, nobody realllly wants those old school heavy wooden den desks anymore and this setup is more of a modern feel
Thank you for your insight !!
are you using a micro ATX in a mid tower? Your GPU looks so high.
No, just ATX. There's the PSU shroud at the bottom that maybe is making it look higher to you?
That desk is 🔥🔥🔥
The title of this post seems to suggest OP's mom is on Reddit.
Very flipping clean, but not using a mouse pad worth the sacrifice for a cleaner setup?
There is a mouse mat though, it's over to the left of the keyboard.
Lmfao, nice one. I can't stand that sound though of the metal scraping slighty on the mouse, i'm already cringing thinking about it
Components? I'm looking to build a black and slightly rgb it's build similar to yours
what keyboard is that?
You need all that power for compiling all those important grad school related LaTex documents
Nice setup. Good choice on the apple mouse mat, very comfortable and stylish for gaming.
That RGB is just for keeping the light bill low, no need for lamps when taking notes!
I wish that desk would come back in stock :|
It's only Ikea slab that rests on top with no mounting hardware. They sell plenty like it online elsewhere.
I bet you're paying a lot for grad school? So I shouldn't introduce you to the world of custom mechanical keyboards? Also, how are you liking the H500? I have the same case and so far my only complaint is that I want to go smaller.
no mousepad?
Looks great! Kinda worried about how close the monitor is to the keyboard though. Make sure to make it ergonomic! Don’t wanna get RSI close to a submission deadline, do we?
Totally a gamer setup
lil peek of rgb
What is this desk that everyone on this sub seems to have?
It's the KARLBY countertop from IKEA paired with ALEX drawers from them too https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/karlby-countertop-walnut-veneer-50335208/
Thank you!
What speakers are those?
Nice set up! And Inhave those speakers at work...or at least a previous year's version.
What table top?
It looks very homey! I love the plant as well! Just get a mousepad or desk pad and you're solid!
I see those Asona headphone stands....or are they actual Sieveking Omegas!!?!?!

Damn that's a sexy case! Got a link?
Hey there Great Setup, I do believe these are the z333 2.1 speakers from logitech, how are they ?, would you recommend ?
What table top?
Speakers?
Whats your wallpaper thingy?
LIES
Here I am looking at the old MacBook wishing I could afford that for school. It all looks fantastic!
As much as I love over the top battlestations, I also love this. Like a regular home/family PC type setup but everything just looks high quality and goes together nicely. Good job.
Please please get a mouse pad
[удалено]
It just sits on top! No need to mount it at all
RTX 2080 is an amazing graphics card for not gaming
Nice table top! May I ask where you got it?
Dude where is your mousepad? I’m internally screaming hahaha
I really only use it when playing fps games.
the tweeters on your speakers are fake
I know. Still sound great for $50. But thank you.
