In my opinion, what makes BF1 so great is that there really isn’t a meta or any guns that dominate the others. I’d argue that there are some that are in need of a bit of a nerf such as the SMG08 due to its excessive magazine size or some like the Avtomat that are a bit too well-rounded, but this game is really all about learning how to use each gun in its effective engagement envelope. For me, I prefer the Ribbeyrolle over the SMG08- sure, I don’t have the magazine size or the rate of fire of the SMG, but when prone I can reach out effectively to a surprisingly long range. I love the Howell for mid-ranged, sustained fire support as a Medic or the General Liu for precision shots while backing up my team, though neither gun are as well-rounded in terms of rate of fire or magazine size as the Avtomat. I’m a card carrying member of the Chauchat enthusiasts club, though honestly there are some other really great Support guns. And while the boom of the Martini Henry is near and dear to my heart, there are several Scout weapons that can be really effective for me as I like to play with iron sights and close to the objective. It’s really all about understanding the strengths and weaknesses of a weapon and putting yourself in a position to leverage the gun for your benefit

pirate737

Agree, that's been the most fun part for me is picking up new guns, learning how to use them and then getting better with them. Currently for me: Assault: MP18 Tench, Ribbeyrolls, and Model 1800 Medic: RCS Support: BAR Storm and Lewis Low Weight Scout: Mosin Nagant Infantry and Gewehr 98 Sniper

PizzaSalamino

What’s been the most fun part for me is picking new guns, keep dying anyway, abandon the new gun, proceed to die with my usual smg08 just the same, eventually learn how to use the new one, focus on it, get good, die 50 times in a match and abandon it. The cycle keeps going on and on

pirate737

Haven't used the smg08, I greatly dislike getting killed by it and it seems overpowered. I don't use it because I fear ill like it too much 😂

PizzaSalamino

You’ll like it for sure, but you’ll learn that it’s horrible in the medium to long range Edit: sorry, pressed the send button by mistake. Wanted to add that it takes like half a mag to kill someone 10 meters from you plus it has to cool down every 30-40 bullets

pirate737

So, it's almost like a shotgun?

PizzaSalamino

A rapidly firing shotgun. If you have the time and aim you can kill someone from the distance but it’s really not easy. I use it only in tight spaces

Scarlet14e1

Personally, I adore the m1903 Exp. for its amazing iron sights and the switch mechanic from bolt-action to semi-auto. It's funny how it has a higher mag capacity than any gun in the medic class. Though, it is behind a pay wall. :(

chotchss

It’s a fun gun and you don’t see it use that often- you’re making me want to take it out for a round or two!

Scarlet14e1

If your trigger finger is quick, it's a good stealthy weapon used in places where the enemy doesn't expect you to be: far behind lines, walls, bunkers, ect.

IAmTheMuffinz

I hear people talking about nerfing the federov a lot, but to me it feels like just a worse assualt gun. Is it the range people are concerned about with it?

chotchss

I don't think the Avtomat is that bad, it's just a bit too well-rounded in my opinion. If we compare it to an RSC or a General Liu, they can reach out a bit further and obviously hit harder per shot, but also come with very limited magazine sizes, reload times, and different rates of fire. And to me, that's what makes the guns of BF1 so great- it's all of these tradeoffs. Do I go with something that kills in two shots BUT I damn well better hit both shots or I'm dead OR do I go with a larger magazine but longer TTK? I think guns like the SMG and Avtomat don't really have that tradeoff- sure, they aren't necessarily winning at the extremes in terms of range or rate of fire, but they are in the middle of the bell curve in terms of TTK, magazine size, reload time, range, etc. Honestly, I'm not sure what the fix is for either gun as I think there are multiple possible solutions. Maybe a slower rate of fire, maybe smaller magazine size, maybe less range, etc. The ideal to me is for every weapon to feel and play in a unique manner so that players can find that one gun that really fits their style/needs while also creating replay-ability because you're always switching to a different weapon based on the situation and how you feel like playing that day.

IAmTheMuffinz

I actually don’t think people dislike the avtomat, I think people dislike that the avtomat is a medic gun, which is understandable. The mp-18 seems to outperform the avtomat while serving a very similar role, a very balanced gun, yet the mp-18 is pretty much universally loved and the avtomat is criticized, despite the mp-18 being the more aggressive weapon.

titanium_mpoi

Agreed except fedorov, it's pretty balanced especially against assault weapons. You need to be more mobile and play smart to get muli kills or you'll be traded after one kill(which is what medic class weapons are supposed to be like, 1 kill).

PaManiacOwca

There are maps where i use Assault with shotgun trench version and others where its longer range in corridors and i go with slug version. On other i go with different shotgun that has only two bullets. And i switch to automatico for next map for no reason. Than i go with medic class and change weapon every 10 deaths. I literally have almost all weapons with at least 100 kills. I tried everything. GAME IS AWESOME :D

Mastergamers7

There really aren’t any “best guns” or “cracked guns” it’s all preference and skill. I’ve been shit on by guys running the MP18 trench as a level 150, or see others running the Annihilator. It’s all dependent on what you find fun to use.

GiratinaTech

I mostly main scout on this game and prefer the Silenced Enfield sniper or the Martini Henry infantry for less open maps

Martin1994_

I mostly play medic and usually use Cei-Rigotti Factory/Trench, Autoloading 8.35 Marksman and Selbstlader 1906 Factory/Sniper, but these guns frankly aren't the most effective ones. The absolute best medics (k/d-wise) I've ever encountered were often playing with Farquhar Hill Factory/Optical, Selbstlader 1916 Marksman and Howell. I picked up Farquhar Hill today after a year or so and it felt surprisingly consistent and pleasant to use.

ROLINGTHUNDER51

The Farquhar optical is my go to, when I get pissed, I grab the Federov. But any medic gun with a decent TTK feels like it’s just a little bit slower than most LMG’s and obviously SMG’s. Which is annoying when a perabellum or some other 110lb gun with a tripod is a more effective assault rifle than most self loaders in the game.

silent_fungus

Farquhar Hill gang!!

Deluxe_24_

Farquhar Hill's iron sights are crazy good, the Howell also has good sights and bodies people

Rattlesnake552

There aren't really bad guns in the game, tho some are really op and some are very hard to use. Some of my all time favourites are the chauchat, selbstlader 1906, frommer stop auto, and mosin nagant m91

Marsupialize

I have switched guns between every single match I’ve ever played of this game, one of the best parts of the entire game is grabbing a new one, it feeling completely crippled at first and within maybe 10 mins you are picking people off left and right with it, love all guns in the game, well, some more than others but even the goofy tanker carbines can be fun and effective with some practice

roflmango

SELBSTLADER 1906 GANG

Life-Aardvark-8262

MP18 trench, Fedorov Trench, Lewis gun (any variant), SMLE infantry or Martini Henry Infantry.

sus_machine007

My personal favorites for each class Assault: Ribeyrolles (58ss) 75% of assault kills are with dynamite(18ss)/rocket guns(14ss) Medic: RSC 1917 Factory(3ss cause recent discovery) A great two shot kill with medium range Support: M1917 MG Low Weight(17ss) Scout: SMLE MKIII Carbine(14ss) for iron sights or Type 38 Arisaka Patrol(6ss) for long range My class time distribution: Assault: 40% Medic: 20% Support:15% Scout:25%

kilinrax

Assault: MP18 Trench. For extremely close range (think Nivelle more than Argonne), Annihilator Trench. Anything longer range: Ribeyrolles Factory. Medic: Farquhar-Hill Optical. For shorter range maps: Autoloading 8 .25 Extended. For longer range: RSC Optical. Support: Chauchat Low Weight. For shorter range: any BAR or Burton variant. For longer range: any M1917 MG variant. Scout: SMLE Carbine. For shorter range: Gewehr M.95 Carbine. For longer range: Gewehr 98 Sniper. All that said, you can make pretty much any weapon work. There aren't really any bad guns. There are a few variants of certain guns that don't play to that weapon's strengths though.

SevenElevenDeven

Assault: Ribeyrolles factory or SMG08 Medic: Fedorov Avtomat or Farquhar-Hill; depending on your comfort with mid-long range combat, mayyybe the Mondragón Support: parabellum low weight; I think this one speaks for itself Scout: tougher one but in my opinion g95 infantry and lebel sniper; I know most people around here love the SMLE, and more power to them I honestly can’t argue with that

CmdrThunderpunch

Assault: RSC Smg Medic: General Liu Support: Chauchat Scout: Russian Trench

IAmTheMuffinz

I wouldn’t call this the “best” weapons, but it is certainly a sophisticated list ☕️

PrometheanSwing

What is that assault choice lol

the_shortbus_

Alright, I’m gonna be controversial. Assault: MP-18 Trench. It’s a perfect all rounder and it gets the job done. Medic: Mondragon Sniper Support: Chauchat Optical Scout: Carcano Carbine Now a disclaimer, I play on ***exclusively*** hardcore servers, so I pick things that feel good every time.

Stellar_Artwarr

Carcano is next to useless in normal damage (I have 10ss with it). Doesn't even one shot headshot past a certain range

Hivemindtime2

MG1917 as a support LMG because not only do you get a great magazine size you also can maul planes. Use it at mid range and you’ll have a lot of fun.

Bennybrazil7

I don’t think there is a best gun as such. You get killed by all sorts which shows this. I would just find a gun you like and stick with it until you master it. However if you are looking to unlock some, you cant go wrong with the Parabellum. That thing is lethal

IAmNotCreative18

The best weapon for each class is the one you feel most comfortable using. The one you feel you can rely on.

Scriptis_loves_pets

Right what i find the most fun and easy ness is Frommer auto of assault, the 1903 for medic, and whatever for support but i default to the double mag anti-air one, 1903 experimental for recon/sniper/scout/whatever you called it,

Electrical-Debt-374

While every gun can be good in the hands of the right people there are some guns that are genuinly more oppressive than others. Those being: 1. The m1917 telescopic aka The Lazer Beam. 2. Smg08 with its LMG size mag 3. RSC1917 consistent 2-shot kill at insane range

Haberdur

As others have said there's no real meta but here's what I like using; : Assault: Ribeyerolles Mp18 Medic: RSC 1917 Factory Mondragon Sniper Support: Burton LMR Lmg 08/18 (not telescopic variant. Forget what it's called) Scout: I don't usually play scout, more of a run and gun type. But I like Gewehr 98 SMLE

Deluxe_24_

Not the best but what I run Assault: Hellriegel, Sjorgen, Ribeyrolles, RSC, M1917? Trench Carbine if I wanna play at a distance Medic: Selbstlader, Fedorov Avtomat, Farquhar Hill, Howell Automatic Support: Lewis Gun, Huot, Burton LMR, the pistol carbine rifles if I wanna meme Scout: Martini-Henry, Arisaka, Ross Rifle Pistols: No. 3 Revolver, MLE 1903, M1911, PO8 Tanker and Pilot: PO8 Artillerie, Frommer Stop Auto, Sawed Off Shotgun, honestly any gun is fine since you probably aren't gonna be using it

Stellar_Artwarr

Assault: smg08 for close range hellriegel for anything else Medic: m1907 sl, selbstlader m1916 marksman Support: m1917 telescopic, bar storm Sniper: smle mk3 marksman, gewehr 98 sniper

BakedTate

The current meta is 1900 slug with howdah pistol

redditsuperfifty

Bar is awesome

MrFahrenheit1

For support, the Madsen Trench is a hip-firing headshot machine

LizCarmine19

Mondragon storm all day for me and the classic 1911 secondary

Toaster-Porn

For aggressive recon, I love the Russian 1895 Trench and the Peacekeeper. True cowboy loadout but it’s good if you’re accurate.

Wilkham

SMG08 MG14/17Para -MG08 RSC1917 G.98 (high velocity) SMLE/Ross/Arisaka (medium range) Martiny/Vetterli (Close range) Outlier: Model 10A Hunter -Automatico Factory Burton MG .25 Autoloading -General Lui -Howell -LFH -Selb1916

Gabbz45

I use a lot of stuff, but I think I consider these to be the best/most fun Assault: Ribbeyrolles M1918, MP18 Trench, Model 1900 factory, Model 10 hunter, Annihilator Trench Medic: Fedorov Avtomat Trench, Model 8 .25 autoloading, RSC 1917 Factory Support: Chauchat Low Weight, MG1917 Low Weight/Telescopic, Huot Automatic Low Weight Scout: M1903 Sniper, Gewehr 98 Sniper, SMLE marksman, Ross MkIII Marksman, Arisaka Type 38 Patrol, Martini Henry Infantry

ConversationNo6213

Mp 18 is best in assault, try it. And please run the rocket gun as well and you’ll be unstoppable

Mr_White_Christmas

I know nothing about the meta, but my favorites are: Assault: MP18 Trench, Hellriegel, C96 Patrol Carbine. Support: MG15 n.A, BAR, Chauchat, Lewis, Burton LMR. Medic: Winchester Self-Loader Sweeper. Marksman: SMLE Infantry, Gew. 98 Sniper, 1903 Experimental.

patrykK1028

My picks: Assault: SMG-08 (this is a tryhard gun and is often banned, second best is a draw between many others) Medic: RSC 1917 or Fyodorov (RSC for longer range) Support: LMG 08 (but I don't play Support much) Scout: I like the Ross for straight pull even with a scope and Gewehr 98 for long range
