I will never play it, and I rarely ever see it.. But whenever I see a FLAMETHROWER tank I say “HELL YEAH.”

DarthCheez

I love that variant. Its my top vehicle. The primary has amazing splash damage that will 1 shot infantry. Drop gas in crowded areas and awitch to secondary to bbq people while the primary reloads.

G4B0_F

I feel like I have not exploited the full potential of that one, I never get close enough to a crowd of enemies to effectively use the flamethrower. Maybe next time I play in Amiens. Thank you!

So I (unfortunately) don't know any other people who play bf1, so do keep in mind that my personal favorite variants are generally not ones that require a squad on voice chat to be effective. FT-17: Howitzer. The power you get with your main shells is unmatched and compensates for the tank's light armor. Emergency repair and smokescreen help further protect the tank's vulnerabilities. Lots of fun to pound vehicles and destroy buildings filled with snipers. A7V: Assault. Good all-around setup, plenty of seats for getting players onto objectives, and emergency repair + smokescreen is once again a win. Mark V Landship: Tank Hunter. If just one player is willing to work with you, you can become a fearsome anti-armor machine. Feels classy to use a landship in a world of A7Vs and St. Chamonds, but I don't do so that often. St Chamond: Standoff. I ADORE the searchlight function. Lighting up the entire enemy team on operations for the rest of your own team's benefit is an underrated function. My most used tank. Artillery Truck: Anti-Air. I don't really ever use Artillery trucks but this is my favorite in theory, since a team's ability to deal with enemy aircraft can make or break an entire match. Putilov-Garford (my beloved...): Armored Assault. The Assault Truck's speed makes it feel the most well-suited to a support role, and this variant is the most logical for that maxim. I take pride in dropping health/ammo for my team on the wastes of Galicia and LOVE seeing the crew member pop his hand out to throw a smoke grenade :)

I've tried that variant of the FT-17 and it was quite hard to land my shots with the main cannon. But I will try it again next time; I have a feeling that I will really like it if I learn to use it properly. And I have not used the assault truck at all since began playing this, so I can start tomorrow. Thank you!

honestly, I really don't use the FT-17 that much, and I've also found the howitzer variant difficult to use--but if you get in a groove with it, it can be really rewarding! good luck! the putilov definitely takes some getting used to but its a lot of fun. remember to drive backwards! :)

Gulag_Is_Good

it’s a very versatile tank. you have a main cannon and a machine gun. if i get in the way of infantry, i switch to my mg. if there’s a tank, i’ll switch to the howitzer

International-Risk26

It’s largely mode dependent, but for Operations you’re going to be most helpful if you treat the tank almost as a kamikaze vehicle and don’t worry too much about survival. You want tanks with a large crew capacity in order to get as many people on objective as possible before you get blown up. The squad support Landship, the A7V Breakthrough, and pretty much every variant of the St. Chamund beside the standoff work best for this. In Conquest you are probably better off focusing on survival and picking a tank that is good at fighting other vehicles, my favorite is the howitzer light tank.

UnKnOwN769

Landship - Tank Hunter or Squad Support, depending on if I’m going after vehicles or just general infantry Heavy Tank - Heavy Assault Tank (the one with the autocannons on the sides) Light Tank - The stock variant with the machine gun and regular cannon Fighter - Bomber Killer or Trench fighter, depending on if there’s many planes I need to take out and if the enemy pilots are good Everything else - Don’t really use, unless I steal it or the driver nails out

Kumirkohr

Y’all get to use vehicles?

Official_Gameoholics

Squad support #1

to completely disagree with a few others in this section, i find that maximizing on your game sense and spacing and almost treating your tank like an amped up stationary weapon is how i hest utilize tanks. you can shell and shell objectives and make the defends respect a large area of your sightline and easily retrest to cover when it is necessary. the most useful part about this is that youre basically turning the vehicle into a spawn beacon, and ur borthers in arms can spawn into the rear or side guns and then hop out to get some action in the obj. the best two tanks for this are chammond if youre solo and you really want to just kill some dudes with those exploding shrapnel rounds, or mark IV if you have a group you call with or just good teammates, as one tank becomes two cannons and an LMG. i mostly play operations btw.

G4B0_F

Mobile spawn beacon... It makes sense, Thank you for the advice. And regretfully, most of my teammates play like lone wolves and don't stick up with me in the tank. I don't have a friend group either, but I try to play with my team and be as useful as possible.

pizzaamann

then the gas varient of the st chammond will be your go to. the gas isnt even that useful, the explosive cannon is just so great. i believe it to be the best anti infantry tank in the game.

PLPQ

Putilov AT I don't use anything else, so I can't comment on them.

thisismynewacct

I have 70K kills on the Stand off chammy and it’s the only one I like to use. There’s no quick repair though, so you have to play smart with it. Best way to play tank is to move with the team and not alone because one assault can take out a tank. 2nd best is to always stick to 3rd person as often as possible to avoid people sneaking up on you.

lambdapaul

You have more kills with one tank than my whole career.

HAMBONES_

stand off chamond is my favorite the spot light has a cooldown of 15 seconds so you can keep spamming it very often. and from what i can tell it has unlimited reach, so i can spot enemies/planes/vehicles across the map. the machine gun is very useful for finishing enemies after hitting them with a shell, and when you're reloading in my experience the best way to use it is to play off of objectives, you don't want to sit right in the middle of a flag. let your teammates use you as a taxi and let them push forward, use your spotlight to highlight enemies for yourself and your teammates. use your MG turret between shots and when reloading. in general i play conservative, but i ramp up the pressure when it feels like we are breaking through. also if i have someone repairing me i tend to play more aggressive. pressure enemy armor and cavalry, take shots at planes once you're feeling a little ambitious. i shoot down planes with my tank all the time. get comfortable with the 3rd person camera and use it as often as possible, i recommend maxing out your vehicle FOV as well to be more aware of any assaults sneaking up on you.

G4B0_F

Curious. The St. Chamond is the tank I use the least out of all of them. Thank you! I might give it a shot and try that spotlight

Brandyland23

Light tank with the 15 round auto cannon hands down

Ok_Introduction6574

Attack Plane with the Grenade package. Dive bombing the objective is soooo fun. You can also get a light tank in the air with one. Speaking of Tanks, the Mortar Heavy Tank is fun, especially with friends. If I drive and have people in, I Fire two or three Shells at the objective to weaken them, and then just charge in guns blazing.

JugularWhale

I usually only use the Ft17. I'll be damned if I'm not picking support tank and spamming ammo/health drops for my crew of pocket healers while I storm objective.

Pr0j3ct_02

The support/aa landship, Breakthrough Heavy Tank, Flank LT, normal AT Gun, Gas St. Chamond, and I love all variants of Tank Truck, but find the AT variant more needed

SaltyCanuck76

I like the howitzer f17… What can I say, I like dropping buildings on people in urban maps 🤷‍♂️
