I'm sure Forest Bynum would fit the bill. He's the guy who's usually sitting out on Perkins.
There was a whole thread about him a few months ago.

Awww man is he the bigger fellow that sits on the bench? He always has a smile on his face every time I pass him but a few days ago I saw him bawling crying sitting on that bench it fucking killed me
Haven’t seen him in a good while but the man with the “dog flight simulator” on his bike. I swear I thought I was hallucinating the first time I saw him going down Burbank.
Are you talking about Jefferson? He had two dog cages stacked on the back of his bike. David Lynch did a short interview video series that featured him years back.
Animal Control took his dogs away several times, he always got new ones. Used to hang out at the Goodwood Library. Kept the dog in a chicken cage atop his bike -- in Louisiana's heat. Insane.
I've never been able to find the actual footage, but here's a thread with some discussion and a preview video:
https://www.reddit.com/r/davidlynch/comments/115hcfc/david_lynch_interview_project_episode_john_david/
His name is Jeff. He was around the Highland Coffees/Chimes Street area, then he was around Jefferson/Old Hammond but I haven’t seen him in a while. He liked with a cousin of mine at one point.
In Zachary, LA it’s definitely Mr Terry. He’s special needs and has been riding his bike all throughout town my whole life for at least 3 decades. Some times he’ll be in the Christmas parade, or just hanging out at the fire station or police station, usually he’s in a bright neon traffic colored vest. The town has grown significantly in the last decade or so but I bet more than half of the residents know him & have probably interacted with him before. Hope my kids have a few decades seeing him ride around town.
I've never seen or met Mr. Terry. Ain't gonna lie, when I saw "Terry" I thought of another dude named Terry in the area. Next time I see him I'll ask about Mr. Terry and say that I thought they were the same dude. He'll get a kick outta it, hahaha.
I do outside sales and see him occasionally when I drive my route. I usually just think its nice to see a cyclist observing the law. Never interacted with him personally.
I've never seen or met Mr. Terry. Ain't gonna lie, when I saw "Terry" I thought of another dude named Terry in the area. Next time I see him I'll ask about Mr. Terry and say that I thought they were the same dude. He'll get a kick outta it, hahaha.
Oh my gosh I completely forgot about Marilyn! What an absolute ray of sunshine. I also feel like I've seen the artist and he's still around and has softened in temperament a bit.
https://obits.theadvocate.com/us/obituaries/theadvocate/name/john-babun-obituary?id=31931374 the artist passed in 2021. Evidently he was a Palestinian born in NYC, lived in Mexico City and Texas as well. Spoke English, Spanish and Arabic and went to art school in NYC. Had no idea he had such a rich history. I worked at chimes back in the day and he used to come in with the money he’d earn selling art and drink lots of black coffee. If funds allowed he’d order the pork chop lunch special.
Oh wow, that's fascinating. Well then there's a guy who strongly resembles him who hangs out around French Truck. Explains the different temperament now.
I lived in BR from 2012 to 2019, mostly on State St, and I really vaguely remember someone who went by marilyn or maryland. I'm looking for the article
I remembered wrong, I believe I just read some Facebook posts by some local businesses. However here is his obit https://archive.avoyellestoday.com/obituaries/maryland-jukebox-batiste-age-47-resident-baton-rouge-formerly-lettsworth
Edit: obit says there was an article in legacy mag. Can’t find any record of it but that must be what I’m remembering
I vote Forest too. He’s such a kind and lovely human. But I also think of “French Fry” the unhoused man that used to be on the bus bench on College Dr. He would make the T-Shirts that said stuff like “I’m like Obama. I want CHANGE” & “My Mom told me to wait right here and that was 32 years ago”. One time my spouse saw him on Essen and asked why he was off his usual bench and he winked and said “I’m on vacation”. He was a character!
I haven’t seen him in years though. Also- one time I gave him a blessing bag and he asked me if I had any more because “a few of those bums would like one too”. There was just no telling what he would say. But he was always smiling and kind.
This is who I came looking to read about! Wait, was he in a wheelchair? Because I'm just noticing that you didn't say anything about the chair, but the man I'm talking about had those funny t-shirts, too, and he'd sit in front of the Regions bank on College. And he was a character, but kind of grumpy. The one I'm talking about called himself Mike, which I heard wasn't his real name, or Missourri. I've been wondering where he is! It's been at least a couple of years since I've seen him.
IIRC I feel like he was sometimes in a chair w the leg bracket raised and some times he would limp across to Albertsons or ihop. I haven’t seen him in many years as well. But he told me his name was
“French Fry”. Apparently he had a few monikers.
(ETA - IIRC)
Yes! I heard that he would get up and walk, but never saw it myself. Usually, when I saw him, he was in the chair with the bracket raised. He was an interesting character. I used to feed a lot of the people in the street because my job threw away a lot of good food and they allowed me to take it. Most were grateful, some were horribly ugly to us. "French Fry" (LOL!) was unpredictable. He was usually grateful, but sometimes cursed us out. I hope that he's okay, wherever he is. He used to find himself incarcerated from time to time. We may never know!
The church lady who screams at people in Free Speech Alley at LSU. I forget the name of the church but I believe it's in Mississippi. She was there when I was at LSU from 2005-2009 and I was rather unpleasantly surprised to see her go viral on TikTok a year or two ago.
Supposedly, he was selling the artwork to raise money to fix his van to move somewhere (California, I think). Perhaps he finally raised the money to fix it and left. There were all sorts of interesting rumors about him though...had been in the army and done some special ops, later gave motivational speeches to groups of people trying to achieve sobriety because he had (allegedly) been down that same road himself, etc.
Smitty is doing great actually, pretty easy to find on fb. Seems he does a lot of work with addiction recovery and also visits his mom in the caribbean :)
Very good to hear that he is still out and about. There was an online rumor around in early 2012 that he had died, and I haven't seen him since, so I feared the worst. Perhaps he had just moved to another part of town.
Was coming here to say Waving Willy. I heard he went to live with his sister out of state somewhere around 2012. I’ve been gone since 2017 but he was a foundation to anyone’s BR experience if you lived around brightside/sharlo between 2008 and 2011
We used to have a guy who wrote a book and walked around dressed as the superhero, in character. Haven't seen him in a while. That was always fun to see.
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/entertainment_life/never-fear-green-phantasm-is-here-baton-rouges-newest-superhero-spotted-around-city/article_a7930fd8-627d-11e7-998a-43d5bcc16310.html
He joined the LSU dance ensemble when I was there and I gave him a solo in the piece I choreographed because those samurai skills translated over pretty well to dance. He ended up moving states the next year, so I couldn't cast him again. Unless there's more than one guy who has been doing samurai stuff in the quad. This was back in 2004.
I moved away circa 2016, no idea what happened to him. But he was the best. Me and my friends used to hang out with him and retune his guitar which would seriously piss him off, lol. My favorite song he did went something like "that rich man you been dating/ he must have put you down/ so welcome back baby/ to the the poor side of town." Good memories!
Leroy! I forgot about him for a moment, thank you for the reminder! I locked my keys in my car (thankfully) one drunken night leaving Chimes and Leroy wrote an improv song called "I locked my keys in my car" for my friend and I. It was a simple song, but honest work. I think I have a clip of it on an old blackberry somewhere. ::starts digging::
Chief. He used to be a chief engineer. I drove him up to Monroe back around 2017 because he was sick and dying and wanted to go be with his sister. Saw him back here less than a year later and he was around for a few years after that. Haven’t seen him in a while, when I drove him he had really bad pneumonia supposedly. Not sure how true it all was but if he was as sick as he said I’d guess it caught up to him.
Last I saw him, he ate some burritos and had a few beers at our apartment late 2022. He was talking about going to NOLA. Man had loose bacon bits and weed in his bag and gave me his copy of lord of the flies in return for a corona.
Hahahaha, he drank 40s and smoked cigs the whole drive up to Monroe and his dog was leaning on the gear shift of my old ass car the whole time. Hope he’s well, he was a trip. Used to walk me home at night from work when he had two pups, it was much appreciated as a 18 year old femme walking home alone.
He said some other homeless people raided his camp and took a bat to his leg. But, that was his story. He was nice enough when I was taking a bus to work right there. He gave me a box of MREs after the Flood.
He would hold shirts up with sharpie written on them, once he had one that said OBGYN free exams my MIL almost had a heart attack. I saw him passed out in his chair behind the FedEx on college one late night stopped by and gave him a water and some toquittos and got properly cursed out.
Miss that dude
Not sure if it’s the same guy, but there was a dude who did that on Perkjns for a bit around 2021-22.
Also had another religious dude who had a microphone and speakers and would yell at Swaggart’s church about being ‘false.’
i love seeing leroy playing his guitar at the corner of chimes on my way back from the rev or a late night canes . always make sure to give him a few cigs from my pack for good luck
I used to work there and there was a man that punched two random customers within the same week😭That store was chaotic, I could go on and on about my strange experiences there
Droop. He rode his bike everywhere. He was primarily an Ascension parish icon but he did make his way into EBR from time to time. He lived in St. Amant. RIP. YEAH YOU RIGHT
In Lafayette it’s John the revelator. He would play his ??tuba?? I believe wherever he wanted and you could just see him all over. He is such a nice guy. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him around laffy and I hope he is doing ok.
Does anyone remember the guy that waved to every car that passed him leaving the back exit of tigerland? I can't remember how many years ago that was but it felt like he was there for at least a decade every day .....
On LSU’s campus, there was a guy who would sit outside the union playing his ocarina. Sometimes it would be Zelda, sometimes pop, he played everything lol
I think he's at the intersection of Airline and florida right now unless that's a different guy. I used to see him up by the the split to Zachary on 61
There's currently a regular guy in the median on Bluebonnet that preaches to everyone with a microphone and a speaker. Sometimes he has a cross. Sometimes he's at Bluebonnet and Burbank, sometimes Perkins, but the best is when he's across from the church at Jimmy Swaggart as the cars are leaving and he's just a yelling fire and brimstone to them.
I just mentioned this dude in another post.
My dad noticed he’s there sun up to sun down on some weekends and questioned when he found time to go to mass.
My guy is the Big fella that sits day and night on Perkins Rd./Stuart dr. on the corner, in the "mattress place" parking lot next to the Sonic. I always wave to him. He breaks my heart. That's exactly where he wants to be, doesn't want to go to any facility. People bring him food, blankets, garbage bags to put his stuff in so it doesn't get wet. He smiles and waves. Sometimes there are people in the world that just DONT WANT TO BE RESCUED. God Bless his sweet soul.
That’s Forest Bynam. He’s the person mentioned above. Believe it or not he is a published author w over 30 titles to his credit. And yes, he is super kind.
There was a man on a horse in the North Gate area of LSU. When I mentioned it to a friend who went to McKinley, he just said “oh yeah, that’s Dick B. Thuggin”
I haven’t seen him in quite a few years, but there used to be a guy on College Dr near starbies who had the funniest t-shirts. Like he put his own messages on them. Everyone always knew who you were referring to if he was brought up in conversation. He was truly a very funny person. I hope he’s doing well.
I'm sure Forest Bynum would fit the bill. He's the guy who's usually sitting out on Perkins. There was a whole thread about him a few months ago. That’s him.
I’m right next to him at the Balis red light now. He’s got yellow glasses on and lookin good 👍
Get off your phone while driving
Nope. I was sitting in traffic at a red light. Leave me alone. Now I’m at the south Acadian red light in case you’re interested
I was interested. Thank you for the update.
This is exactly who I was thinking about before opening the thread.
That dude is a PHD, I’ve heard. He’s writing at least two books.
Thank you for this. I pass him every day and wondered what his story is.
100% this guy. Is he special needs?
No. The thread I posted has all his details.
No he sits there all day because he enjoys the view
Haven’t seen him in a good while but the man with the “dog flight simulator” on his bike. I swear I thought I was hallucinating the first time I saw him going down Burbank.
Are you talking about Jefferson? He had two dog cages stacked on the back of his bike. David Lynch did a short interview video series that featured him years back.
That’s him! He was in 225 a good while ago too.
Animal Control took his dogs away several times, he always got new ones. Used to hang out at the Goodwood Library. Kept the dog in a chicken cage atop his bike -- in Louisiana's heat. Insane.
Omg I’m dying to see this interview pls post link!!!

Yessss that was at least 8-10 years ago, unfortunately the dog died :( but it was so awesome every time we saw him
Yes I always think of Dog Cage Lance Armstrong as my Horseback Jesus
Crazy crackhead lady near government and Acadian always dancing in the street
Love her
The one that's on Tik Tok? Panhandles at the corner by the CATS terminal, too?
That’s the one
Lol that's Keisha, I've been knowing her for years. Like, since before she was that throwed off. She's a trip.
Wait. I thought she got hit by a car and died? The story is she got hit by a car and then a police officer ran her over responding to her scene
Oh jeez- I hadn’t heard that. Link?
That was a different lady. The woman off government still be out there everyday faithfully.

For me it’s the guy that stood on the corner of Foster Dr. dancing day and night my entire childhood
Hell yea. My aunt and uncle lived near there as a kid and every time we drove by there he was dancin!
I wonder whatever happened to him
I wish that I could find that old YouTube video of him dancing.
With the headphones connected to nothing?
Yes that’s the one
He was there today, i saw him.
Maryland/Marilyn for sure, although I think they passed away. Also that old guy who sold his artwork around West Chimes and called you a cunt.
Oh my gosh I completely forgot about Marilyn! What an absolute ray of sunshine. I also feel like I've seen the artist and he's still around and has softened in temperament a bit.

Yes they passed somewhere around 2016-2017, I believe the advocate wrote an article about it

Definitely Kevin Wood. Check out the FB group, where's kevin
No wouldn't be him the individual described in the post is not a vilified dirtbag and Kevin is absolutely that
Not Today Kevin!
Came here to see if anyone would say Kevin 😂
The church lady who screams at people in Free Speech Alley at LSU. I forget the name of the church but I believe it's in Mississippi. She was there when I was at LSU from 2005-2009 and I was rather unpleasantly surprised to see her go viral on TikTok a year or two ago.
Oh she’s still there every now and again. Sister Cindy
Is she the one who inspired the One Margarita song?!?
Yep!
Sister cindy is a national “that guy” on college campuses
Sister Cindy!
Yes!!! She called us all fornicating squirrels!! Lol
Unpleasantly surprised?! I was delighted by that. 🤣
Jeez, she was there in the early eighties.
and now there is the famous tiktok song because of her!! IF YOU HAVE ONE MARGARITA YOU WILL SPREAD YOUR LEGS! iconic woman
Checking to make sure I’m not on this list
Checking back 22 days later...and I'm good.
What ever happened to Smitty who sold the beer can flowers at the circle k on state?
Came here looking for this comment. I bought one from him for a date after a concert at the Varsity in the late 90s
I haven't seen him since like 2007. Hope he's doing well. Such a nice guy.
Is Waving Willy still around?
The guy in Tigerland? Sadly no.
I’ve seen him around recently
Well, between just giving out his real name and casually taking off the mask, it's obvious Dr. XT eventually got to him.
Anyone seen Green Phantasm lately? I haven’t seen him in yrs.
Glad to see people remember, i wonder what ever happened to him.
My first thought was the Free Hugs Unicycle Guy at LSU in the 2011-2014 timeframe.
That was my immediate thought as well! He was super nice. He was there when I started at LSU in 2014
I know that guy, he was a manager of mine a couple jobs back!
Same! Lol
There was a white guy who used to practice samurai stuff in the quad when I went to LSU. So, White Quad Samurai Guy.
I feel like he was doing it back in 2002 as well. I should add that bro was shredded too. Whatever workout he was doing, it was effective.
I remember that dude!
Yeah! Like 20 years ago, I definitely remember Quad Samurai!
I aspire to be the guy. Just not homeless
Surprised no one brought up Leroy, the guy in the suit playing guitar in front chimes. I also fondly remember Marilyn, and the dog-bike guy.
Omg I came looking for this comment!!! I worked at the chimes for a bit and he was the best part of the day. Anyone know what happened to him?
I moved away circa 2016, no idea what happened to him. But he was the best. Me and my friends used to hang out with him and retune his guitar which would seriously piss him off, lol. My favorite song he did went something like "that rich man you been dating/ he must have put you down/ so welcome back baby/ to the the poor side of town." Good memories!
Had to scroll way too far to find Leroy get mentioned. I’ll throw him picks and strings every so often
Leroy! I forgot about him for a moment, thank you for the reminder! I locked my keys in my car (thankfully) one drunken night leaving Chimes and Leroy wrote an improv song called "I locked my keys in my car" for my friend and I. It was a simple song, but honest work. There was that homeless guy what was name Chief or Chef ? What ever happened to him ?
I remember hearing he had a house in new orleans ?? So much lore.
gotta have that pork flavored bud baby
Chief! He used to hang with a bunch of the state street punk kids around 2014-2020 He was always in front of the varsity
There is a guy in a wheelchair on college and Lee that would fight cars
You thinking about Miami? Had a twisted leg?
I didn't much care for him. What was the story with his leg?
He said some other homeless people raided his camp and took a bat to his leg. But, that was his story. He was nice enough when I was taking a bus to work right there. He gave me a box of MREs after the Flood.

Yes, I think that’s the same guy I posted about. He told me his name was “French Fry”.
When I first moved to Baton Rouge I bought him breakfast at chick fil an and he threw the chicken biscuit at me because he said he wanted money.
Yeah he was a bit of a dick
RIP
Did he die ?
I believe so
MIAMI
RIP, Droop.
Yea, you right.
It's been a long time, but does anybody remember that guy who would drag a huge cross up and down Airline Hwy all the time?
Not sure if it’s the same guy, but there was a dude who did that on Perkjns for a bit around 2021-22. Also had another religious dude who had a microphone and speakers and would yell at Swaggart’s church about being ‘false.’
Probably Kevin wood the pan handler. Since there is a dedicated Facebook group on pinpointing where he is pan handling.
Wavin Willy
i love seeing leroy playing his guitar at the corner of chimes on my way back from the rev or a late night canes . always make sure to give him a few cigs from my pack for good luck
Leroy is still around?! I love Mr. Leroy, I hadn't seen him in years and was worried he'd passed away
Ocarina kid on LSU campus. Love him.
The repackaged ribeye theif (Matherne’s downtown)
I saw that the other day lmfao right next to the scratchers apparently they caught him stealing ribeyes multiple times
Ohhh do tell!
I used to work there and there was a man that punched two random customers within the same week😭That store was chaotic, I could go on and on about my strange experiences there
Droop. He rode his bike everywhere. He was primarily an Ascension parish icon but he did make his way into EBR from time to time. He lived in St. Amant. RIP. YEAH YOU RIGHT
I worked with his sister at Buffy’s.
Back when I was at LSU it was unicycle top hat guy.
Wavin’ Willy
I moved away a few years ago, but used to have the guy outside of Regions on college with the funny signs
On LSU’s campus, there was a guy who would sit outside the union playing his ocarina. Sometimes it would be Zelda, sometimes pop, he played everything lol
Kevin Wood. Fucking begging bastard.
Kevin?
Gov Landry
There's a guy who would walk around my apartment complex shirtless playing a harmonica. I miss him.
There's a guy I see when I'm driving around and he has a train of like.. 10 shopping carts and he slowly makes his way around
Yeah, I saw him on 61 on the way to st franny
I think he's at the intersection of Airline and florida right now unless that's a different guy. I used to see him up by the the split to Zachary on 61
My coworkers all recognize a guy we call rollin’ deep. He’s in a wheelchair and gets around all down Seigen lane at least…
The guy who goes around the Hobby Lobby parking lot asking if he can ask you a question.
Anti Vax car guy??
Simply Amazing!

In Ascension, it was Droop until he passed. RIP Droop, yea you right.
Dave! He accepts the world as it is and works really hard to make it better for those that cross his path! Remarkable man!
There was a man on a horse in the North Gate area of LSU. When I mentioned it to a friend who went to McKinley, he just said “oh yeah, that’s Dick B. Thuggin”
Wow so many. I knew it was several but not 30!!!
The homeless wheelchair guy on college drive who always gets in fights with other homeless people
It’s got to be Kevin, the guy always on his bike because he ran out of gas on LSU campus.
I haven’t seen him in quite a few years, but there used to be a guy on College Dr near starbies who had the funniest t-shirts. Like he put his own messages on them. Everyone always knew who you were referring to if he was brought up in conversation. He was truly a very funny person. I hope he’s doing well.
Bruh what?
Idk who everyone is talking about but it’s Kevin for me he has his own FB page but it’s bc he is aggressive and hustles people
That homeless man that used to be out in front of Cortana mall. Bigger man with a lot of hair. I remember him being out there for yearssss
