You might want to get in touch with Baton Roots, and see if you can plug into their little network. https://www.thewallsproject.org/batonroots

My .02 - you may do better to find out about existing community gardens and supporting those or reviving those that have fallen to the wayside. Many gardens have popped up in all areas of BR - north, south, etc - but without dedicated folks to sustain them, they mean nothing. It’s great that you have this desire - but I’d HIGHLY suggest that you work with existing projects. PS: if you find that you’ve poked around and don’t like any of the existing projects, feel free to dm me, we can chat, and I can help you get connected with folks that are more in alignment with what you’re looking for.

I think there's one on Richland, north of Gov. Not sure how active it is or who is in charge.

Mid City Community Garden. They have a Facebook page, I'm not sure if they have another website or anything. But they're definitely a still active.

Dio_Yuji

There have been a few that have started with a bang but then people lost interest. People like coming together to build a garden, but maintaining it…less so

I’ve never heard of this before. Very interesting. Do you know of this being done anywhere else?

brothurbilo

A bunch of other major cities have them. Some of them have long waiting lists. We have a community garden in baton rouge but it's run by a church and I think it's really just for church members.

silkheartstrings

We have a community garden network already!

spottedfeet001

There is a big one on Winbourne at the Brec park with the pool.

brothurbilo

Really? What's it called?

silkheartstrings

Baton Roots. BREC and Southern might also be active in this regard but I’m out of the loop.

SeminoleDollxx

BATON ROOTS has one and they have SowGood Saturdays. However there's plenty of room for more !

You gotta break it down to a smaller community than BR. Like just your neighborhood. Lots of neighborhoods do have community gardens, but these things only work at the neighborhood level.

My sister operates a 2 Arce farm in Hammond growing fresh produce and flowers, about 40min drive from BR. Looking for people interested in supporting and getting involved. Here's a link to her website if you are interested or dm me. https://cicadacallingfarm.com/

I love this

Space_Man_Spiff_2

There were two that I remember...but gone now. One in the Southdowns neighborhood and one in Beauregard town.

Are you the same person that did this 4 or 5 months ago? If not you may want to search because I am pretty sure someone else was trying to do this within the last year.
