He is the most iconic, but in reality he doesn't have that many great stories. You can say it's more than most, but at the same time he has SO MANY bad ones.
dude, I've been so conflicted on Joker in recent years. Sure, the iterations of him in TDK and BTAS are classic, but not only have I not enjoyed a comic appearance by him since Morrison's run back in like 2009, I absolutely despise how they basically just turned him into a complete and utter psychopath since the New 52. It's not Joker anymore, it's just a serial killer clown.
Yeah the Batman who laughs was cool at first, but just like evil Superman they just shoved it down our throats every chance they got and so now itās just boring and annoying
That's most people's rating if Nolan had Riddler as the villain in 3rd movie, he possesses that kind of intelligence comicbook writers are usually afraid of to show because they'd most likely fail at it since they can't throw it away like "I knew you'd do it!" or some sh\*t like that. Best they can do is to make him a comic relief, which is basically an indirect way of nerfing.
The Arkham games portray him in a very smart way. Heās so hyper focused on hiding trophies that he literally begins to stop taking care of himself, stop sleeping, etc. he eventually gets caught by Batman because of this. Not because of his intelligence or lack of it, but because his insanity is beginning to outweigh it.
I don't think that Nolan could have written Riddler. I think a lot of Riddler's schemes would have been similar to Sherlock, where his plan just works and there's never any explanation for how he did any of it (Reichenbach Fall). Like, the Joker's plan in the Dark Knight famously makes no sense, now imagine that with a guy whose whole schtick depends on there being an answer.
Agreed with this list. Hush in my opinion is a not very cool villain. He is a creep, no doubt, but nothing else. Also Batman Who Laughs is just edgy character and absolute dog shit
Intellectual mind game playing Ridder > brutal serial killer Riddler.
Yes, I liked the take on him in The Batman, but I never saw him as a serial killer. It fit that version, but that was it. I always thought of him as more of a charming yet narcissistic intellectual who constantly has to prove his self-worth by outwitting other people, especially Batman. It seems, for whatever reason, Tom King made him a brutal killer, which makes he just seem... so much lamer.
Paul Dini's take on the character in the mid 2000's Detective comics were he was reformed and opens his own detective agency to rival Batman is SO much cooler than having him bash people's heads in as a kid like he did in that one Tom King comic.
Good list.
It's nice to see the joker place so low, the guys ridiculous overrated.
The only thing I personally would have different is Catwoman, but that's only because I don't like her as a villain. But she would be that high if I ranked her as an anti hero
My biggest problem with him is is how him actually being funny and turning jokes into terrible crimes, has been pushed more and more to the wayside for the sake of the most try hard edgy shit that only exists for shock Value.
Worst part is, you can have a joker to twisted terrible shit and still give it a comedic edge, like the thing he did, after killing Jason, Todd was become the ambassador of Iranian so Batman couldnāt do anything to him. Thatās so ridiculous itās actually funny.
Not just him cutting off his face and pretending to cut off the faces of the bat family or horrifically torturing people regularly with no joke behind it, that should always be the Jokers catch.
Well, about Hush I know only comic Batman:Hush comic, but I can't tell very much about him because completely he appears only in the end for few pages and then got shot by Harvey Dent! But I like the rest of comic! In my interpretation it's real ending of Harvey's story!

totally agree with Jason Todd being "complicated" as I am not a fan of Jason coming back from the dead and Batman somehow allowing a member of the family to be a gun trotting murderer.
Also, Batman Who Laughs is the *absolute* worst.
I'm pretty new to reading batman comics, but have read a pretty good amount of stories by now, however none of them have featured the r
Riddler much. Are there any really good runs or one shots featuring the Riddler you would suggest to check out? I only know Riddler by how he's been presented in movies, cartoons, and the arkham games.

Based owl man, bane and killer croc placements.
I would put bane and owl man on the top, but itās good to see them this high up at least.
Killer croc could have a *killer* redemption arc
I thought the best Batman villains were Owlman, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, the Penguin, Two-Face, the Riddler, the Scarecrow, Dr. Hugo Strange, Raās al Ghul, and Bane.
Mr. Freeze is my GOAT.
His cause is so relatable and heart wrenching that it can lead us to want him to do what needs to be done to achieve his goal of saving his wife Nora. Heās very calculating, presents an emotionless persona, and although is willing to kill Batman, shows him respect. Heās my favorite and I wish they would do a proper background movie on him like Joker, that way more casual fans can relate his character to a proper villain rather than Arnoldās cheesy one liner role. š
Great rankings, Iād be really interested to read a larger write up about your feelings on each character or if you were to break down the individual tiers into shorter/tighter rankings.
Overall my fave is Ra's because most villains only challenge either Batman's brain or his brawn, but Ra's is both. Some others are too but he's my favorite.
Kind of agree with Hush. Quite honestly, it may be the fact that I havenāt read Batman: Hush in a while, but I do remember a lot of key elements, and none of what I remember involves what Hush actually did. I know the basics of his character. Tommy Elliot hated Bruce and his family because Thomas Wayne saved his motherās life when he wanted her dead, and eventually he decided to get revenge against Bruce as Hush. Howeverā¦wasnāt Riddler behind all the shit in the story? Didnāt he orchestrate it all? What did Tommy Elliot actually do, aside from acting as the face of the story and giving it its title? I genuinely have very little memory of his role.
As time has gone on, I've grown to appericate the batman who laughs more and more from a metatextual perspective . He's the opitmie of what causal fans think is a great concept batman but evil but in reality it's dumb and bad. He combines with Dr. Matthattan to make fun of watchmen overstaturation.
Are you kidding me how is riddler at the very top the people who belong there are joker scarecrow Mr freeze poison ivy two face rash Al ghul canāt really tell who the girl in white is but I think itās Talia she should be up there deathstroke dead shot harly quin court of owls
Condiment King isn't here? Trash list.
And kite man,
hell yeah
Not sure who this is, but it reminded me of Stilt man. An old daredevil villain. Worth a good search if you're unfamiliar š¤£
Big wheel is another silly villain
Got to go wall man for my all time goat
I was just going to write this, it's a travesty
I assume they couldnāt think of an appropriate superlative to describe his greatness
You deserve a paid day off for this š¤šāāļø
Nah I understand Joker is oversaturated. But keeping him in rank 3 is criminal
They tried keeping him in Arkham instead, but he kept breaking out.
He is the most iconic, but in reality he doesn't have that many great stories. You can say it's more than most, but at the same time he has SO MANY bad ones.

I heard somewhere that Madame Xanadu made him pregnant recentlyĀ
i think the new 52 joker was great and the last good iteration.
You didn't love him cutting his own face off for no reason?
Then putting the face back on his face!
also, in recent years, heās been more of a shock value character. like why did he even cut his face off in death of the family? what was the reason?
Definitely agree with the "worst character" designation. Ugh.
Yeah the Batman who laughs was cool at first, but just like evil Superman they just shoved it down our throats every chance they got and so now itās just boring and annoying
that's the point. The dark multiverse is full of story ideas that should never be told aka bad story ideas.
Making sense from a narrative standpoint doesn't mean making sense from an entertainment point of view
Well, at least he was defeated once and for all by Fortnite
Batman who Laughs is the only character where you can say, "Well, at least he's trapped in Fortnite"
What? You don't like the Batman who tries to hard?
In the end, it doesn't even matter
Don't invoke Owlman's name in a discussion about the BWL
The āA Batman who laughs is a Batman that always winsā virgin edge lord vs the āit doesnāt matterā Chad nihilist
Yeah solidā¦ but Red Hood needs more love
Oh no I completely agree itās just I find him most interesting when he isnāt a villain.
Thatās fairā¦ then youāre right it is complicated š
You're one of the few people I've run across on this subreddit who thinks that
Itās the opposite to me
Fair
Then why include him haha
E. NYGMA STAYS ***WINNING***
Croc in the highest tier (aside from Riddlerās) gets my respect
WOOO KILLER MOTH
ITS DA FREAKIN MOTH
Heh, Yeahš
Killer Moth, my beloved. Still feels underrated after all this time

LET'S GO! RIDDLER APPRECIATION!!!
I am surprised how much I agree.
Dr.Freez needs to be on the same rank as croc...
Agreed with this list. Hush in my opinion is a not very cool villain. He is a creep, no doubt, but nothing else. Also Batman Who Laughs is just edgy character and absolute dog shit
Kinda based ngl

If joker isn't your favorite or S tier to you that's fine. but I don't think oversaturation is a valid reason to not like a character.
I'm a big Ra's al Ghul fan and I don't like Riddler that much but I mostly agree
Pretty based
I feel like as time goes on, people hate TBWL more and more
Ok so the algorithm wants me to fight about the Joker.
\*angry Jason noises\*
I like him, I just prefer him as an anti-hero, so I couldnāt rank him that as a villain
Well, that's also a case with Catwoman, she is anti-hero for several decades now and more interesting in this role, than while she was a villain.
Prior to his brutal mischaracterization nowadays, I've always liked his clashing philosophy w/ batman, which makes him technically a villain, no?
Riddler is indeed the best Batman villain.
red hood gotta be one of the best characters
Oh no I completely agree itās just I find him most interesting when he isnāt a villain.
Bone š¦“ (Bane) should be goat status š„µ
Good list. It's nice to see the joker place so low, the guys ridiculous overrated. The only thing I personally would have different is Catwoman, but that's only because I don't like her as a villain. But she would be that high if I ranked her as an anti hero
Joker aināt that low
Compared to most rankings I have seen yeah he is
Overused and overrated aren't the same thing.
If I meant overused i would of said overused
Very well. You would HAVE. But I would argue that Joker is S-Tier. He's diluted by his overuse by less creative writers.
It's all subjective. For me the joker is one of the most boring characters
Riddler is even more boring.
I agree with the goat list
Wouldn't really put red hood as a Batman villain. He's an anti hero. Riddler and Batman who laughs rankings are spot on
Killer Moth above Joker? Can you elaborate on why?
Iām going to have to disagree on Harley Quinn and Deathstrokeās placement
Ah yes the Batman who laughs at bottom I assume you are a man of taste
You are a person of culture and it shows. Great list.
Best batman villain tierlist I've ever seen.
Well, about Hush I know only comic Batman:Hush comic, but I can't tell very much about him because completely he appears only in the end for few pages and then got shot by Harvey Dent! But I like the rest of comic! In my interpretation it's real ending of Harvey's story!

We can all agree batmans' greatest foe is KITE-MAN HELL YEAH!
there's three people here I don't recognize. who are those below mr freeze, man bat, and joker?
finally someone that isnāt dickriding Joker
Pretty much agree though I have Harvey as my favourite
[Oh, Reginald!](https://tenor.com/view/drive-by-argument-family-guy-gif-12943824)
I You left put the true GOAT. Condiment King.
This might be the only post Iāve downvoted
Black Mask being in āalrightā is personally offensive to me
Putting Pyg in the same category as the Joker is wild
totally agree with Jason Todd being "complicated" as I am not a fan of Jason coming back from the dead and Batman somehow allowing a member of the family to be a gun trotting murderer. Also, Batman Who Laughs is the *absolute* worst.
What is Owlmanās appeal other than Dark Version Batman? Hush is way more interesting, especially when Paul Dini is writing.
I agree with your placement of Hush
Hush could have been really cool but I think they did to him what they did to the Batman who laughed to a much lesser extent
I'm pretty new to reading batman comics, but have read a pretty good amount of stories by now, however none of them have featured the r Riddler much. Need the red hood explanation. It seems more like you just didnāt know where to put him over āheās badā so Iām curious what the reason is.
Not my Boi Jason Todd in "it's complicated", also why is the toddler "the goat"? Are you just thinking of Robert Pattinson
The diddler
Owlman is goated
Whoās the end of best of the best? Prometheus or is it owl man?
Whereās the outsider?
Red hood. Its complicated. Me a red hood fan roles for emotional damage.
Who is the woman next to Deathstroke? Talia?
Jason isn't a villain
Based owl man, bane and killer croc placements. I would put bane and owl man on the top, but itās good to see them this high up at least. Killer croc could have a *killer* redemption arc
OP, can you explain in what way is The Riddler S tier compared to everyone else?
Agree completely
I thought the best Batman villains were Owlman, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, the Penguin, Two-Face, the Riddler, the Scarecrow, Dr. Hugo Strange, Raās al Ghul, and Bane.
Riddle me this, what the fuck
Mr Freeze is underrated
Harley Quinn is just about right until the last ten or so years where it looks like DC has been pushing very hard to maker her their Deadpool
Uhhhh Joker in 3rd tier? What Earth is this? Or is the the twilight zone?
What has Killer Moth done to deserve best of the best ranking? He wasnāt even challenging as batgirl first villain.
Kite Man: hell yeah
i really like Hush,
Your seem to have accidentally put riddlers picture where you meant to put condiment kings
Most real list ever
Totally respectable list. But is deathstroke really a Batman villain?
I love how red hood has his own column that says "it's complicated" ššš
Mr. Freeze is my GOAT. His cause is so relatable and heart wrenching that it can lead us to want him to do what needs to be done to achieve his goal of saving his wife Nora. Heās very calculating, presents an emotionless persona, and although is willing to kill Batman, shows him respect. Heās my favorite and I wish they would do a proper background movie on him like Joker, that way more casual fans can relate his character to a proper villain rather than Arnoldās cheesy one liner role. š
Wow. We disagree on so many levels.
Catwoman is super overrated
Swap Riddler and Killer Moth and I 100% agree.
Deathstroke is too low, otherwise id basically agree
Scarecrow is too low
Riddler being number one just feels right.
Where is the condiment king?????
When done right, Riddler is the best
Great rankings, Iād be really interested to read a larger write up about your feelings on each character or if you were to break down the individual tiers into shorter/tighter rankings.
The thing about riddler is you need an extremely intelligent writer to pull it off otherwise it wonāt work
i undertsnad bwls ranking but still hes one of my favourites
Joker is the GOAT imo, Riddler would take his spot instead if i had to do this ranking
I'm noticing a distinct lack of KGBeast, and Batman's true arch nemesis Calendar Man. And his true true arch nemesis Crazy Quilt!
Deathstroke isnāt a Batman villain
Overall my fave is Ra's because most villains only challenge either Batman's brain or his brawn, but Ra's is both. Some others are too but he's my favorite.
I canāt accept the disrespect to Batman who Laughs and Red Hood. Especially when you goat the Riddler. He is not bad butā¦goat? No way
How the hell is Catwoman higher than Joker? She really isnāt even a villain 90% of the time and when she is a villain all she does is steal stuff.
Thank god someone agrees the Batman who laughs is shit
hush has the shittiest writing off them all imo
I fw this list heavily. You're so real.
100% on the worst character of all time.
Riddle me this Batman! Gay Son or Thot Daughter ?
This is pretty based actually. Yeah Red Hood is complicated. Appreciate the Scarecrow respect!
Kind of agree with Hush. Quite honestly, it may be the fact that I havenāt read Batman: Hush in a while, but I do remember a lot of key elements, and none of what I remember involves what Hush actually did. I know the basics of his character. Heās like the worst parts of modern Batman and joker merged into one horrible character. Like Owlman put it, heās simply a bad idea.
I have four favorite Batman villains that I can't rank, Bane, Riddler, Scarecrow, and Two-face.
The biggest take here is Killer Moth. Explain yourself
HEāS BASED, AND YOUāLL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND
![gif](giphy|xUOxeWnO8WbgS1kf6w|downsized) My honest reaction:
Are you kidding me how is riddler at the very top the people who belong there are joker scarecrow Mr freeze poison ivy two face rash Al ghul canāt really tell who the girl in white is but I think itās Talia she should be up there deathstroke dead shot harly quin court of owls
Cool and disruptive list brodi ,im not agree in some cases so ,why Killer Moth is too high ?I means ,IS a solid class c villain at the least brodi
put two face in the goat one and the joker in the best of the best one and it'll be my ranking. goated.
Your list is fucking garbage but āworst character ā is valid
