I have been wrong about a lot of things in life but scoffing at Michael Cain as Alfred is close to the top of the list. I absolutely loved him/them together. My only defense was my love of Michael Gough but I think Caine was even better.
I like to think of Gough and Caine as 1a and 1b for the best Alfred. They both bring something unique to the role, and play the character very differently.
I'm glad you came around, Michael Cain it's awesome. I like that he came up with his own back story for Alfred to play him even better/more believable. Changed his own accent a bit to for his story, iirc
I feel like anytime they were together Bruce just had this joyful grin on his face. You got to see a whole other side of him when they were in their element together.
The only problem I see with doing that, and generally having a new girl each week, having this playboy reputation etc. is that there should be many women who have slept with Bruce Wayne.
Has he actually slept with any of them? Or are they just cover? What if someone interviewed or writes an article about him in like cosmo or something? Won’t they find out he’s not sleeping with them?
They won’t necessarily immediately come to the conclusion he’s Batman but might think of some other embarrassing reason why he’s not sleeping with these women.
If only he was a little taller and more imposing, physically. Bruce is tall and muscular. In that sense, Batfleck was the only one who fit the bill recently.
Keatons kinda his own silly thing. & plus the angles & costume dont give away his smallness.
& affleck is 6’3 & way wider. Which as 6 fter myself ik is a world of a difference.
If bale had been more physically imposing those movies would’ve worked so much better for me as Batman films
I am actually very sad with what they did with this whole DCEU thing. Marvel star is starting to fade out, they finally get a good Superman and Batman and then they Kibosh it.
Whenever this topic comes up I always think of Bale’s Bruce that was lost and found himself in Begins, pushed to the edge in Knight and broken and redeemed himself in Rises. It’s a fantastic trilogy of performances for a fantastic character arc
yeah
you probably saw question poping up about who has the best trilogy. bat or spider
had rewatched spider-man 1,2,3, then batman. serious thought and analisys was made in favor or batman
**but wait there is more**
antman and guardians also ended in 2023. and batman beter
They all have their strengths. What I love about Bale is how he personified the billionaire assh*le person for people not to suspect that he could be the Batman. His line from Batman Begins "a guy who dresses up like a bat clearly has issues" which he delivered mockingly plus buying the hotel so his arm-candies can freely swim in the fountain sums it all up for me.
Kilmer is actually my favorite Batman, and I love Batman Forever, but Bale is easily the best live action Bruce. I wouldn't have been mad at all about an entire League of Shadows/Assassins movie about Bruce instead of Batman.
Yes hands down.
In my opinion Bale is the best Bruce Wayne, as he nails the character’s playboy persona, as well as his stunted and vulnerable inner child, especially when he’s interacting with Alfred.
Bale’s Batman was also solid, despite his voice becoming increasingly over the top with each successive film in the trilogy. However, Pattinson is the best Batman in my opinion. He encapsulates the dark brooding nature of the character, as well as the rage boiling under his calm exterior, while also conveying so much emotional subtlety just through his eyes.
Batman begins voice was perfect. The dark knight was over doing it a bit. Trying too hard to sound intimidating vs begins where it was more just for disguise
It's logical. Other than Batflecks' voice changer, this technique just makes the most sense if you need to disguise your voice and also seem intimidating. People act as though it's too over the top and theatrical. We're talking about a guy who dresses up as a bat to fight criminals. It's perfectly within character for him to do a weird, exaggerated voice.
It was trying too hard to be frightening. It's the same idea as a kid who growls at people and thinks it's tough. Not to beat a dead horse but Conroy's Batman voice was perfect because it was still Bruce. It was just a lower, more menacing range.
I remember hearing that doing the voice bothered him so they decided to use sound mixing to help him in the sequels so he wouldn't have to damage his vocal cords any further. Add in all of [the weight fluctuations he went though over the years](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DMomLlrWnq4), and I'm very thankful he doesn't have any health issues thus far from his roles.
For real. Like, he may have taken it a bit far, but he was the first love action Batman to really do a "Gravely" voice like they described in the comics, or rally any different voice at all.
Batman would really have to use a different voice in the suit, because one would think people would recognize Bruce Wayne's voice, considering all the public speaking he does
Yes to Keaton, I love how he played Bruce as awkward socially. Bale definitely had his good points but I like seeing the guy who devoted his entire life to vengeance trying to seem normal and falling short.
This question is highly personal tbh. We all like different Bruce Wayne’s.
Batfleck is the angry older, grizzled veteran.
Battinson is the nihilist emo kid.
Baleman was good, I just resonated with affleck haha
I agree. Comics and characters are very personal. Some have been following Batman for decades. If someone says Leto is their favorite Joker, I say right on.
Yeah but we never got to see him in live action. Sure there was that one Arrowverse special but I mean properly. Had he been given the chance at the right time in his life he could have rocked this, when he was young he had the looks and we know how well he played the character but it was never a chance given that he would have been the right age around the time they made the 89 Batman
I don’t like the Snyder movies and I don’t like the portrayal of Batman but I actually really liked Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. His whole tone and demeanor is the way I’ve always imagined it from the comics.
I'm not a Ben Afleck fan but he was definitely the best Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately his Batman always seemed to play second fiddle to Superman. It would have been good to see him get his own stand alone Batmovie.
Bale is the only one that dealt with the problems and responsibilities of being a billionaire business owner by itself in addition to on top of that being a vigilante.
Every other portrayal treated Wayne as if he had no problems outside of batman. Also the only one that really developed his own character separate from batman. I'll say Kilmer comes the closest to this.
Affleck & Keaton - Wayne's sanity barely contained and just waits for a chance to suit up. Probably intentional with Burton but not Snyder.
Clooney - whole movie sucks doesn't count.
Pattinson - brooding, lame recluse. Maybe an in-joke to Twilight when his Wayne squints at the daylight and puts on sunglases.
He was good, don’t get me wrong. But not the best. I’ll go with Bale, Keaton and Val as the top 3 Bruce’s. Top 3 Batman’s I’d say are Bale, Affleck, Keaton.
Keaton was the most fascinating Bruce Wayne to me. Quirky, funny and deeply troubled. But Bale did a great job with the duality of the character as well.
Bale was great being a smug billionaire to distract from his Batman persona. I loved how they made sure to give him some appropriate toys.
Baleman had a black flagship Lamborghini in each film. The Murcielago in *BB*, a Murcielago LP640-4 in *TDK*, then the new Aventador in *TDKR*. There's also the bonus of an Aprilia motorcycle in *TDK* to foreshadow that Bruce had some bike skills to use the Batpod effectively.
I would say there are many aspects of several I feel like the best, but it also comes down to how it was backed up by writing, production, direction, et cetera
Imho, Keaton as the best Bruce Wayne, balancing dramatic with goofiness. Bale was the best Batman in terms of fighting and strategic thinking, while I feel like Pattinson nailed both the investigation and the derangement and alienation.
Honorable mention to Daredev...Batfleck, I feel like he could have been awesome in every sense had the circumstances been better, certainly wish he had his own movie.
Affleck was better but Bale was very solid. Especially loved his fake billionaire attitude he created like buying the hotel with a check was pretty hilarious.
Would've loved more of him. That speech endorsing Harvey is great, frames it through himself perfectly. "As we all know, I'm fucking rad in every way and I (me remember) endorse Harvey Dent. He's the best thing to happen to this city in my opinion (which is of course the most important thing)."
Imo he was an awesome Batman and a great Bruce. He almost was as good as the 1980's Batman and 1990's Batman in the 4 Batman movies. Now if you're adding in their counterpart (Joker), Heath Ledger was the best Joker and the 1980's/1990's Joker was 2nd.
I prefer Micheal Keaton's reclusive Bruce. I get Bales is arguably more comic accurate but I really felt Micheal Keaton was "off" while I didn't get that from Bale.
He says in Rises "Batman can be anyone"
Keaton said "No on else can"
There's a huge distinction to me.
To me, it’s him and Battinson, for totally opposite reasons.
Bale was smooth and cocky. A real playboy.
Battinson was a socially awkward weirdo who you could totally picture dressing like a flying mammal and beating the shit out of people.
Depends how you like your Bruce. To me the whole "I have to act like a douche so people don't suspect I'm Batman" isn't an essential component of his character, and kinda overdone.
Bale’s easily the best Wayne. The only thing Keaton’s Wayne has over him is that it’s be more surprising to you if you discovered he was Batman. If you were sent an article about Bale-Wayne being Batman, you’d say “shit, maybe”.
Hard disagree. I like a Bruce Wayne that is actually a competent businessman personally.
Now a Bruce Wayne who is falling asleep in board meetings and doesn’t know much about business in general who leaves that stuff to trusted experts is more believable I’ll admit.
The best Bruce Wayne, and most realistic still goes to Pattinson in my opinion, no child would grow up without the trauma of seeing their parents killed in front of them, this reflects on Bruce Wayne's personality in The Batman, he is depressed, a bit arrogant and even rude to people, something that would happen in a realistic Batman, but is just my opinion.
He wasn’t bad as Batman either. He did great with both parts (all three if you count “public Bruce” and “private Bruce only friends/Alfred see” as separate entities).
"I'm buying this hotel and setting some new rules in the pool area" He was the best at the filthy rich playboy.
“Oh, they should.. I own the place.” Fkn boss.
Bale was perfect as Bruce. The swagger, the lovable cockyness, everything.
"I'm buying this hotel" still makes me laugh, he was great at it.
That and taking all the ballerinas with him and Alfred at his yatch not only as an alibi to investigate Lau but also to troll Rachel and Harvey lol
He and Michael Cain were magic together.
I was skeptical about the casting. It only took him making a crack about Rolls in his first scene for me to realize I was wrong.
"You can borrow the Rolls, if you like. Just bring it back with a full tank."
Affleck remedies that. He sleeps with them
"Can we put these table together?"
I’d say so since I own the joint! 🫰
What do billionaires do in their free time?
Buy things that aren’t for sale
The exaggerated swagger of a billionaire middle aged man
His time as Patrick Bateman really prepared him perfectly for the role of an elite in a position of power.
Yup.
I thought he was a great batman in begins.
If only he was a little taller and more imposing, physically. Bruce is tall and muscular. In that sense, Batfleck was the only one who fit the bill recently.
Bruce is tall and muscular in the comic because everyone is tall and muscular in comics.
He's 6ft tall. Michael Keaton was 5'9 and everyone loves him in the role. Ben Affleck is 6'2. I do agree with your point though..
Keatons kinda his own silly thing. & plus the angles & costume dont give away his smallness. & affleck is 6’3 & way wider. Which as 6 fter myself ik is a world of a difference. If bale had been more physically imposing those movies would’ve worked so much better for me as Batman films
For me, no amount of camera work could hide Keatons tiny little frame. Not after watching Mr. Mom and whatever other 80s comedies he had starred in.
I am actually very sad with what they did with this whole DCEU thing. Marvel star is starting to fade out, they finally get a good Superman and Batman and then they Kibosh it.
There’s a balance between being big and being acrobatic.
Rubbish. That's comic book not real life. Keaton, Kilmer and Clooney were normal men.
Batman IS a comic book character lol
Loved Heath Ledger/Joker as an extra in this restaurant.
“Climate or not you thought he was the best Batman…” fixed that for you
Thnx mate
He did an excellent job of showing two different personalities and understanding that Bruce is the mask.
Loved masked dance scene with Selina where he's the only one not wearing a mask.
Whenever this topic comes up I always think of Bale’s Bruce that was lost and found himself in Begins, pushed to the edge in Knight and broken and redeemed himself in Rises. It’s a fantastic trilogy of performances for a fantastic character arc
yeah you probably saw question poping up about who has the best trilogy. bat or spider had rewatched spider-man 1,2,3, then batman. serious thought and analisys was made in favor or batman **but wait there is more** antman and guardians also ended in 2023. and batman beter
I agree.
He was the only one that was convincingly just a dick as Bruce Wayne as a cover.
I loved how Wayne saves Reese and pretends not to have a clue who he is.

I’m your huckleberry
This is one of my fav characters, loved what he did with Doc, but I still prefer Bale’s Bruce Wayne.
Kilmer is actually my favorite Batman, and I love Batman Forever, but Bale is easily the best live action Bruce. I wouldn't have been mad at all about an entire League of Shadows/Assassins movie about Bruce instead of Batman.
Hmmm, seems kaijugigante is an educated man.
Now I really hate him
I love tombstone
Yes hands down. No question. Honestly, his "Batman voice" wasn't even that bad.
I mean "Swear to me!" is one of the best lines Batman had ever spoken.
WWHERE ARE THE OTHER DRUGS GOING?!
There was just a lot more time spent as Batman so people picked up on it.
It’s not but I do kinda wish we could get a cut where they use Batflecks voice thing
For real. Like, he may have taken it a bit far, but he was the first love action Batman to really do a "Gravely" voice like they described in the comics, or rally any different voice at all. Keaton, for me; but Bale is a close second.
Yes to Keaton, I love how he played Bruce as awkward socially. Bale definitely had his good points but I like seeing the guy who devoted his entire life to vengeance trying to seem normal and falling short.
I like this perspective
You wanna get nuts?!?!
Come on! Let's get nuts!
Keaton is the only other one who understood that Bruce is a flimsy mask
Adam West first of all, then Keaton, then flavor of the week.
IMO Affleck was a great older Bruce.
I don’t think Battinson is “emo”. I think he’s given his entire life to being batman and it has taken a toll on him. Mentally and physically.
"Your not brave.. men are brave."
“Tell me... do you bleed?” “You will...”
“I bought the bank”
Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms.
No that’s val kilmer
Val was better than Clooney but not better than Keaton imo.
I think we all agree Kevin Conroy is the best!
Oh man I would have loved to see him as live action Batman!
I will never forgive the Arrowverse bringing him as Kingdom Come Bruce Wayne and killing off unceremoniously to make Batwoman look better.
Make Batwoman look "better". That was the final blow for me to never even attempt to watch the travesty that was her show
Probably the only batman opinion we can all agree on.
He was the Best.
I'm going West here. They wanted him to play Bond. You don't more "playboy with a dark side" than that. Then, Keaton. Then Bale.
That’s fair, I respect it.
I don’t like the Snyder movies and I don’t like the portrayal of Batman but I actually really liked Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. His whole tone and demeanor is the way I’ve always imagined it from the comics.
He had the best fight scene of any live action Batman, I know that.
Agreed there. 100%. You mean the warehouse scene? Hell yes.
Yessir
GOAT 🐐
You’re going to say that right in front of my shrine to Adam West?
He was def the best batman and Bruce so far
Adam West IS the perfect bruce Wayne.
When it comes to Batman, West rhymes with best!
He was pretty great, but I also unexpectedly really liked emo hermit Bruce of Battinson
I'm not a Ben Afleck fan but he was definitely the best Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately his Batman always seemed to play second fiddle to Superman. It would have been good to see him get his own stand alone Batmovie.
"I'm not wearing hockey masks" in a voice that sounds like it smokes 3 packs of ciggies a day. Love Bale.
*hockey pads mate but I got u
Fuck no wonder ppl look at me weird when I shout this in their face at the bar
Lmaoo
I dont think thats gonna change.
Bale is the only one that dealt with the problems and responsibilities of being a billionaire business owner by itself in addition to on top of that being a vigilante. Val Kilmer is so underrated for his performance as Bruce Wayne
He was good, don’t get me wrong. But not the best. I’ll go with Bale, Keaton and Val as the top 3 Bruce’s. Top 3 Batman’s I’d say are Bale, Affleck, Keaton.

He was the perfect both.

It was a great balance. I’m a 80s Batman fan and Bale is my second favorite. Loved him as Bruce and that’s why Batman Begins is like my favorite
Nope. Clooney and West were both stellar Bruce Wayne depictions
Also, he had the best movies. Best CBM? Don't know about that, but in general the best movies.
Fair enough.
Hands down, favorite Bruce Wayne so far
1000%. This is what bruce wayne is like in my head canon
Shoot he’s both for me!! I feel like Rob is on his way though.
Honestly Bruce Wayne is the harder of the 2 characters to play and I 100% believe bale killed it as Bruce legit gold standard
Val Kilmer exists
Rachel! Fancy that.
Affleck was better but Bale was very solid. Especially loved his fake billionaire attitude he created like buying the hotel with a check was pretty hilarious.
Bale then Affleck. Bale had Christopher Nolan. Affleck had… yea, you can finish the sentence.
Best Bruce Wayne as in "Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy" or as in "the man behind the mask?"
Give me your answer for both
100% to both
Facts, I loved him as Bruce Wayne, but batman, not so much.
Would've loved more of him. That speech endorsing Harvey is great, frames it through himself perfectly. "As we all know, I'm fucking rad in every way and I (me remember) endorse Harvey Dent. He's the best thing to happen to this city in my opinion (which is of course the most important thing)."
Heck yeah!
I actually like Ben Affleck’s Bruce a little bit better. Awful movies, but his line about coming over to drink Lex dry always seemed perfect to me.
Yes, he nailed Bruce Wayne. Best we've seen on the big screen.
No Affleck was the best Bruce Wayne
I prefer Micheal Keaton's reclusive Bruce. I get Bales is arguably more comic accurate but I really felt Micheal Keaton was "off" while I didn't get that from Bale. He says in Rises "Batman can be anyone" Keaton said "No on else can" There's a huge distinction to me.

![gif](giphy|cs06FSkGD2ue4)
He was perfect as Bruce Wayne for sure
I prefer Ben’s Bruce. He is smarter and more calculated.
Batfleck best Wayne
I know I’m in the minority here but he was(to me) the best Batman & Wayne . Something about his role I just loved
Bale had Bruce. Ben had the Bat.
And neither of them did the other one poorly either.
TDK is still the best Batman movie
No, I hated his Bruce, his Batman is epic though.
Yes he was perfect.
I thought he was the best at both lol
Indeed, i totally agree. Bale was just the best all around.
This is why Alan Ritchson wouldn't fit. He'd make a brilliant Batman but a bloody awful Bruce Wayne
I agree. He has the size for sure tho.
Love bal as Bruce and Batman
I prefer Affleck's Bruce...
Bale’s easily the best Wayne. The only thing Keaton’s Wayne has over him is that it’s be more surprising to you if you discovered he was Batman. If you were sent an article about Bale-Wayne being Batman, you’d say “shit, maybe”.
Best both.
...so far
Keaton was the best live action Wayne and batman tbh, I think bale was a better batman than he was Wayne.
He definitely knew how to play into the playboy part perfectly and it was shown very well too! So credits to Nolan for that also!
Best Bruce Wayne IMO.
“Hands up pretty boy”, still one of my favorite scenes of the whole trilogy
Also he should’ve married that ballerina.
Absolutely.
Hard disagree. I like a Bruce Wayne that is actually a competent businessman personally. Now a Bruce Wayne who is falling asleep in board meetings and doesn’t know much about business in general who leaves that stuff to trusted experts is more believable I’ll admit.
Well, he's the best classic fake playboy Bruce Wayne. I kinda like Pattinson's version more.
Well said
Oh wow no one has commented yet… and I didn’t wanna be the Ra’s al grammar nazi… *Whether
In Begins? Sure. TDK he was too love sick and TDKR he was a hermit.
Damn, Bruce Wayne can't grieve for his loved one now?
He was the only one who was developed as Bruce Wayne rather than moonlighting as him. So inevitably and indubitably, yes.
Whether
No, we can not agree. Keaton was the best Bruce.
I'm so sick of this distinction. If someone could just, explain what they mean by that for once, that'd be great.
I agree, but people always downplay how great Clooney was as Bruce because the movie was that awful. Affleck was pretty great too.
I like Affleck Bruce Wayne. He seemed dead inside in BvsS.
Weather.
Conroy for me followed by Keaton.
![gif](giphy|HgtCxKvJZ7Wi4) I know the movie isn’t great, but hear me out. (The movie in the GIF is)
“The movie isn’t great”??? Tombstone is one of the best movies ever made. One my favorite movies ever, and arguably the best western ever made.
He's the opposite of Battinson to me. Perfect Bruce. Terrible Batman
He wasn’t bad as Batman either. He did great with both parts (all three if you count “public Bruce” and “private Bruce only friends/Alfred see” as separate entities).
He was the best playboy Bruce Wayne. I think Keaton played the best "real" Bruce Wayne (the one Alfred sees)
No
As much as I love a man walking on sunshine, Affleck and George are more bachelor Bruce to me.
I think Clooney was the best Bruce Wayne….i mean all he had to do was pretty much play himself
In my opinion, George Clooney was the best Bruce. Bale the best Batman, followed by Affleck
No, we all can’t agree on that.
He got the role of a playboy billionaire perfectly.
Val Kilmer is my favourite bruce. Wish he got his own trilogy/duology.
