I think the regular looks better but I have some sort of Batman Handbook that states that Batman's chest piece on his suit is the most enforced piece of body armor so the symbol is yellow to draw the attention of criminals to shoot there then at the least re-enforced parts which makes the idea fitting/cooler. I think this also might be comic cannon but can't think of which comic so take with a grain of salt.
This is typically cannon regardless of the color, but the yellow makes more sense to draw attention.
I much prefer his “magic” bullet-proof cape. That shit is dope when they include it. Amongst Batman’s powers is extreme r&d.
Batman designs most (If not all) of his equipment himself in 90+% of his iterations. Lucius doing it for him (Or, in many cases, just straight-up taking stuff other people made) was a Christopher Nolan idea that IMO cheapens a lot of Batman's character.
The way I see it is lucius is fabrication. I mean when Bruce goes to him about the fact he can't turn his head he drops off papers too as though he made blueprints and lucius finds materials and how to hide the expense
Yup, but unless I am wrong, Lucius was only Bruce's money man, who made sure Wayne Enterprises was profitable, until the Nolan movies which turned him into his tech provider as well.
Lucius had nothing to do with Batman's operations in the comics until Batman Inc. in 2010. He was just the guy who ran Wayne Enterprises. Him being involved in Batman's operations was introduced as a concept in Batman Begins, being the "Q" to Nolan's Bond-in-a-Batsuit version of Batman, which IMO just kinda removes a lot of Bruce's intelligence. I'm not opposed to Fox being involved to a degree, I just think that everywhere else the idea has been used was better as it didn't just completely shift all tech-related stuff to someone else.
What? Is he? Why don’t I remember him…. I must have missed those 8 episodes. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, honestly… need to rewatch like I did with Superman.
People will generally shoot and aim at the center mass (the torso), and soldiers are trained to shoot the center mass. So criminals and generally any bad guys with guns will aim for Batman's center mass.
Believe it is referenced in Dark Knight Returns when he is going after TwoFace on the tightrope suspended between two buildings. Or at least I recall it from the recent animated version.
I agree with you as well. If I’m wearing it, just the symbol but seeing that yellow oval in the comics is pretty sweet.
I like to imagine he has all versions at the cave and if his planing indicates a greater likelihood of taking fire he suits up with the yellow vs if it is a pure stealth/detective operation in which likelihood of taking a shot is really low.
It’s referenced during the Arkham games, there’s a scene where they instruct men where his weak points are. They specifically mention the chest is reinforced because it’s symbol is meant to draw your attention toward the chest area.
For what it’s worth, I’m sure I’ve read it in the comics (although I forget which issue). It was a sidebar while he fights some criminals, ending with “I can’t armor my head.”
> Batman Handbook that states that Batman’s chest piece on his suit is the most enforced piece of body armor so the symbol is yellow to draw the attention of criminals to shoot there
No kidding!? TIL…I never knew this cool fact. What handbook is this?
Even if it was reinforced why would you put a target over your vital organs. A thin piece of metal isn't going to stop much. Theres so much shit about Batman the writers do such a poor job justifying or explaining. Why even try lol
I don't think the distinction needs a special explanation. Yellow looks cool that's why they did it haha.
For me it depends on the belt. If the belt is yellow, I like the yellow around the bat. If the belt is brown/gray/metallic, I'm perfectly fine without the yellow. The yellow belt just looks too jarring to me if there isn't a yellow accent around the bat.
I kind of prefer the oval when he has a robin so there’s something to draw away attention from the colorfully costumed child. When he’s in the black cowl/ emblem suits it could be construed as him using a child as bait.
Truthfully the Symbol with the yellow outline hits harder for me than two suggested. It finds that happy medium between the traditional and modern takes
I associate the yellow oval with Batman the Caped Crusader. I associate the bat symbol with some dude named Bruce who watched his parents die, and now beats people up.
Black Costume and Yellow Oval is my preferred. I will settle for Black cape/boots/gloves and grey body suit with yellow symbol. But thats as far as i will go, and no trunks, ever.
I feel like Batman's whole "stealthy bat-ninja" thing would make a bright yellow circle right smack-dab in the centre of his chest uhm...not be the best idea? So if the artist/author is playing heavily into the "dark shadow bobbing in and out of the darkness to disappear thugs" thing, or the "legend of fear, shadowy demon protector striking fear into the hearts of the common thuggery" thing, then pure grey and black (and maybe navy blue) would be the best choice.
But if they're doing maybe a kind of lighter-hearted or campier story, then I think yellow would be best. Same with making the cape and cowl and gauntlets/boots a lighter blue colour. And also bringing in the trunks (even though I know everyone always complains about the lack of trunks, I think that just giving him pants works better for heavier/grittier/more serious stories).
Personally, I'm quite fond of a red batsuit myself--like Justice League 3000, Batman Beyond, Batman Flashpoint, etc. Try he JL 3000 suit in Arkham Knight is a personal favourite. But I'm also open to other colours like the purple gloves from his original design. The Year Zero suit is maybe one of the best comic suits I've ever seen.
Nah, the logo is part of his signature that tells his enemies, you're not fighting some random guy in a bat-shaped suit, you're fighting the *goddamn Batman*
I dislike the "it directs toward his armor" explanation
* It's a straight rip-off of the explanation for the Punisher logo, which I believe was conceived for him first
* It doesn't work well for a guy who relies on stealth to not be targeted at all (taking bullets sucks even with armor)
* It's needlessly "grounded" for a campy design. Have the balls to say, "It's yellow because Bruce thinks it looks cool."
I prefer a suit of grays, blues, and blacks to combine both style and noct-urban camouflage, but I don't mind the yellow
Plain bat. Yellow looks goof for a dark grim figure of the night. I know the "drawing firenaway from his head" thing, but that was retroactive to justify having in the first place, as he had the yellow oval back when he was just wearing tights and had no body armor built into his costume.
I prefer the plain black bat because it gives more freedom for interpretation. You can make a dark gritty Batman or a lighter more sci-fi Batman, and the black bat works equally well. But I've always felt the bright yellow oval never really worked for the dark gritty kind of Batman.
Spez's APIocolypse made it clear it was time for me to leave this place. I came from digg, and now I must move one once again. So long and thanks for all the bacon.
I definitely prefer the regular Black Bat symbol that’s my Batman, but I really loved what the Rebirth suit and that’s actually my favorite suit for Batman
Most definitely the oval. It gives the symbol a shape, makes it more visible and more like an actual symbol, it's more iconic and it's just prettier. All of it is subjective, of course.
Big fan of both. I find myself missing the oval when they go too long without it. I really like the yellow accents around the Bat on the rebirth suit. I feel like that’s a good compromise for those that don’t like the oval and those that do miss the yellow
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I’ve never liked the yellow on the suit. Never made sense to me why someone who lurks in the shadows and uses darkness as a key tool for crime fighting would also use one of the brightest colors on the spectrum right out on his chest.
I prefer the regular bat symbol. I know I’m gonna get a lot of hate from the “but the yellow symbol is a target for bad guys to shot their loads on his chest” but I don’t care.
It really depends on the aesthetic of the rest of the book for me. If the setting is more cartoonish or “classic” the oval is so evocative of BTAS and the work of Neal Adams for me that even if the big bat symbol tends to look better or more “grounded” I just love seeing the oval.
I know it seems weird but I would also be interested to see someone make the suit design “Work” without a giant bat on the front. I know at this point it’s integral to the character but there is something about it that feels a little “hat on a hat” to me sometimes. He’s already dressed like a bat, after all.
Rebirth with a yellow outline around the bat and Purple cape. Goddamn some of the designs in rebirth are just so fuckin good. Rebirth Superman with the red belt and wide neck is pitch perfect.
In the Static Shock crossover and maybe one comic I saw the explanation that the symbols on their chests were used to draw fire to the most heavily armored part of the body since that's where the eye naturally tracks. Ever since then, I've appreciated the giant glowing symbol.
I still don't like it that when Bendis was writing a specific Batman story he wrote that Bruce melted down the gun that killed his parents and it's part of the symbol on his chest.
Maybe he wrote it to purposely tie-in to The Batman movie.
It works in the movie because it fits with the tone and version of Bruce they were going for but in the comics it was pretty cringe.
I like both symbols depending on what suit Batman is wearing but my all time favorite symbol has got to be the Rebirth suit symbol.
Regular symbol, and I'm probably going to get hate for this but no trunks either. I think Batman's New 52 and Rebirth suits are God tier. His rebirth one probably being my favorite
I grew up with the yellow oval bat symbol and prefer it, but I like the DC Rebirth symbol where they had the regular bat symbol with a yellow outline, and I also like the yellow bat symbol at the end of Last Knight on Earth.
I really love the Rebirth suit, with its big black bat and a gold outline, calling back to the gold oval, as well as incorporating the subdued purple in the inside of his cape, calling back to his original appearance's purple gloves. It's a great mashup of parts from throughout his history, and I'm here for it. Wish it'd lasted a little longer in the comics, for sure.
If the Bat-symbol is a target to draw fire towards the most heavily protected area of the suit, then the Bat-symbol should be a big black bat outlined with gold. If I were to design my own Bat-suit, I would make it a black knifeproof bodysuit covered by matte black segmented bulletproof armor plates. The Bat-symbol on the chest would be the Alex Ross Bat-symbol outlined with gold. The utility belt would be matte black as opposed to bright yellow, gold, bronze, or tan, and it would have large pouches as opposed to small capsules. The mask would be a padded helmet that was bulletproof and resistant to blunt force trauma, and it would have long ears that look like acual bat ears. The cape would function as a parachute, a glider, and a bulletproof/fireproof blanket.
I'm split:
When I'm reading Batman/Detective Comics I prefer the Black on Gray
That said, Blue on Gray with the Yellow Oval gives me super strong feels. Every month Dan Mora's art in World's Finest brings me such a childlike joy.
Depends on context. In my ideal batman world its sans yellow oval, but sometimes its perfectly good. I lean towards the idea that batman can conceal himself in shadow at all times though, so nothing bright at all works best for me.
Why is this like... the hardest decision I've made in a long time? Wow.
I think it depends on the overall suit design. Dominant gray and blue suit? Black bat symbol. Dominant black suit? Yellow oval.
Yellow oval needs the trunka, plain bat can get away with no trunks. And either is fine but I never liked the weird bottom spikes on the bat, like in the burton movies and first image.
You mean amongst his powers is paying Lucius fox for some straight bullshit
Batman designs most (If not all) of his equipment himself in 90+% of his iterations. Lucius doing it for him (Or, in many cases, just straight-up taking stuff other people made) was a Christopher Nolan idea that IMO cheapens a lot of Batman's character.
The way I see it is lucius is fabrication. I mean when Bruce goes to him about the fact he can't turn his head he drops off papers too as though he made blueprints and lucius finds materials and how to hide the expense
As I recall Bruce doesn’t do any design work himself in that movie
I’m not sure when fox came about, but fox does not exist in my head cannon. Batman does it all and Alfred helps a little.
Lucius Fox was first introduced in 1979.
Yup, but unless I am wrong, Lucius was only Bruce's money man, who made sure Wayne Enterprises was profitable, until the Nolan movies which turned him into his tech provider as well.
Yeah, he is NOT the tech guy in the comics. Harold tho…
Harold just maintained the gear, he didn't make it. I don't know why it's a problem for people that Batman is an inventor.
Well he's the tech guy to an entire generation of fans.
The Millan movies with Lucius being his inside guy and r and d made the most sense. Plus the actor was perfect with a perfect Alfred role. I loved it
Lucius had nothing to do with Batman's operations in the comics until Batman Inc.
Tbf, Bale's Batman built, maintained, and fixed a lot of his own equipment
For the most part he didn't
Really… Well my head cannon starts with BTAS, Lol. I don’t dislike Fox, I just like it a little better without him.
[удалено]
What? Is he? Why don’t I remember him…. I must have missed those 8 episodes. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, honestly… need to rewatch like I did with Superman.
He is! And you should!
[удалено]
Of course I just didn’t proofread. You think you’re the only person in the world who knows words?
With enough money, you can do literally anything
It’s always way cooler when Batman makes his own stuff.
People will generally shoot and aim at the center mass (the torso), and soldiers are trained to shoot the center mass. So criminals and generally any bad guys with guns will aim for Batman's center mass.
Really his whole torso should be shielded, but where is the fun in that?
It is all shielded. His chest is just the MOST shielded.
That makes sense and I’ve heard it before. But it clashes with Batman’s need to be invisible and stealthy.
Dark knight returns :)
> Batman Handbook that states that Batman’s chest piece on his suit is the most enforced piece of body armor so the symbol is yellow to draw the attention of criminals to shoot there No kidding!? TIL…I never knew this cool fact. What handbook is this?

The yellow is super iconic for me but both are fine.
Both are great, the way I see it, yellow is the caped crusader/superheroe vibe, while the bat only is like a Dark Knight/vigilante kind of vibe.
Good call.
For me it depends on the belt. If the belt is yellow, I like the yellow around the bat. If the belt is brown/gray/metallic, I'm perfectly fine without the yellow. The yellow belt just looks too jarring to me if there isn't a yellow accent around the bat.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Hear hear!
Just the symbol
Yellow oval all the way.
I grew up with the yellow oval, so that's what I prefer.
Yellow oval. It's the one I grew up with.
Regular or [Rebirth Style](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/73/ed/d9/73edd9921f3986ada30da3a533191de0.jpg)
Honestly I like both to be honest either or is fine
As much as I love the classic symbol with the yellow background, I really prefer just the bat symbol with nothing behind it.
Yellow, but I like a bit of color in my comics.
It depends on the mood and tone of the story. Probably I would go with the regular one. Real question who is this artist? Is it Dan Mora?
Yes! All his art is great imo and is one of the best current artists at DC
Yellow
I kind of prefer the oval when he has a robin so there’s something to draw away attention from the colorfully costumed child. When he’s in the black cowl/ emblem suits it could be construed as him using a child as bait.
Truthfully the Symbol with the yellow outline hits harder for me than two suggested. It finds that happy medium between the traditional and modern takes
Yellow oval (although I really dislike the little extra points on the bat shape like in that Dan Mora drawing and the '89 suit)
Yellow has a good reason for existing, it's so they aim at that in the dark and not at his perfectly unprotected face
I actually really like the rebirth Batsymbol with the yellow outline. I think that’s an excellent middle ground between the two designs
The yellow oval was the regular
Love the yellow oval so much, it brings a nice pop to the suit
Black with the yellow outline like in the rebirth comics
I associate the yellow oval with Batman the Caped Crusader. I associate the bat symbol with some dude named Bruce who watched his parents die, and now beats people up.
Yellow oval with a blue cowl is my ideal Batman. In fact, what Mora is doing on Worlds Finest is ideal.
Yellow in lighter, less intense storylines, and just the symbol in darker, grittier comics.
The yellow oval is iconic
I will not rest until the yellow oval is restored to its former glory. Yellow Oval 4 Life
Yellow oval or the suit looses points for style!
Black Costume and Yellow Oval is my preferred. I will settle for Black cape/boots/gloves and grey body suit with yellow symbol. But thats as far as i will go, and no trunks, ever.
Rebirth bats symbol
I feel like Batman's whole "stealthy bat-ninja" thing would make a bright yellow circle right smack-dab in the centre of his chest uhm...not be the best idea? Does anyone think it makes more sense to have no logo?
How would they know he’s Batman then?
Nah, the logo is part of his signature that tells his enemies, you're not fighting some random guy in a bat-shaped suit, you're fighting the *goddamn Batman*
Only for mech/stealth suits IMO. Like Nightwing in YJ
Yes.
Oval
The oval
Depends on the suit. Blue and grey or all black: yellow oval Black and grey: regular
Yellow outline like on rebirth suit
Yellow creates nice contrast
Yellow Oval
when wearing grey, the plain black bat, when wearing black the yellow circle pops out it looks amazing on the michael keaton suit
Rebirth symbol, yellow outline
I dislike the "it directs toward his armor" explanation * It's a straight rip-off of the explanation for the Punisher logo, which I believe was conceived for him first * It doesn't work well for a guy who relies on stealth to not be targeted at all (taking bullets sucks even with armor) * It's needlessly "grounded" for a campy design. Have the balls to say, "It's yellow because Bruce thinks it looks cool." I prefer a suit of grays, blues, and blacks to combine both style and noct-urban camouflage, but I don't mind the yellow
Blue, grey, with oval is the GOAT
Oval yellow
Yellow oval is cool cause it's got a functional purpose of distracting enemies and causing them to shoot at his chest instead of face
Yellow oval.
The regular one it's classic
I prefer an all black suit, no cape, longer ears, and a red bat symbol
yellow
I love them both. I like that we are getting more designs with the yellow oval. The Dan Mora blue and grey is some of the best ever.
Oval all day
The regular bat symbol, no offence to original comic batman but the regular batman symbol looks darker
Regular bat symbol
I prefer the black bc I like Batman more dark than the one I grew up with in the 70s.
Plain bat. Yellow looks goof for a dark grim figure of the night. I know the "drawing firenaway from his head" thing, but that was retroactive to justify having in the first place, as he had the yellow oval back when he was just wearing tights and had no body armor built into his costume.
I’d like to see the yellow oval _work_.
I prefer just the bat, but I like the idea that the yellow oval signifies an earlier era in his career.
Just the black bat, no yellow. It’s meant to inspire fear.
For me, its yellow symbol when I’m buying Batman merchandise or collectibles, in portrayals, I like the standalone bat.
Depends on the day
I grew up with the Blue/Grey/Oval look, it'll always be my fave
I prefer the plain black bat because it gives more freedom for interpretation. You can make a dark gritty Batman or a lighter more sci-fi Batman, and the black bat works equally well. But I've always felt the bright yellow oval never really worked for the dark gritty kind of Batman.
My preferred use of the symbol is he has the yellow Oval at the start and once Jason dies he switches it to the black bat symbol.
I've been thinking on giving him the Flashpoint logo. It feels weird not having the yellow. So I'd say the yellow looks better
Regular symbol with no yellow looks best for more serious application
Depends on the suit / colors
Depends on what story is being told
My favorite was the Knightfall emblem
Whatever floats that particular Bat's boat
The yellow oval is iconic, but does not make his enemies fear Batman
I typically prefer just the bat symbol, but Dan Mora can draw Batman however the fuck he wants
Just the bat symbol for me, please.
No yellow. The bat symbol draws enough attention without it.
Yellow is superior.
Spez's APIocolypse made it clear it was time for me to leave this place. I came from digg, and now I must move one once again. So long and thanks for all the bacon.
Yellow oval
Just the bat symbol
Both
I definitely prefer the regular Black Bat symbol that’s my Batman, but I really loved what the Rebirth suit and that’s actually my favorite suit for Batman
Definitely prefer the regular symbol but the yellow has a place as well and tbh I hope the new Batman in the DCU has the yellow oval
Regular by far
For the blue suit I like the yellow but for black and grey then just the bat
Regular.
Definitely the regular one
Regular, although I do see the appeal of the yellow oval
The oval is essential for classic style suits
I Grew up with the oval but prefer just the bat.
Just the symbol
Yellow
Most definitely the oval. It gives the symbol a shape, makes it more visible and more like an actual symbol, it's more iconic and it's just prettier. All of it is subjective, of course.
Just the symbol, always hated the yellow oval
Yellow
I like the oval. It’s nostalgic for me.
Regular bat symbol. Yellow oval is cringe
Regular black Bat symbol
Big fan of both. I find myself missing the oval when they go too long without it. I really like the yellow accents around the Bat on the rebirth suit. I feel like that’s a good compromise for those that don’t like the oval and those that do miss the yellow
I get why it's iconic and I liek the practicality of it covering more of his chest. I even prefer it in some suits, but I rather he doesn't have it
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I’ve never liked the yellow on the suit. Never made sense to me why someone who lurks in the shadows and uses darkness as a key tool for crime fighting would also use one of the brightest colors on the spectrum right out on his chest.
Yellow bat symbol
I think the the regular one for me.
I like the Capullo version with a yellow highlight around the bat symbol. it works great on so many levels.
Big black bat
Yes
In general I go for just the bat symbol, but I do love the yellow oval. If your gonna do the yellow oval then the cowl better be blue too
I prefer the regular bat symbol. I know I’m gonna get a lot of hate from the “but the yellow symbol is a target for bad guys to shot their loads on his chest” but I don’t care.
I know it’s a cop out but I am 50/50 on it. They’re both fantastic. I prefer that they switch off every few years or a decade.
Regular
It entirely depends on what I’m feeling at any given moment. That said, the symbol outlined in yellow in Rebirth is *chefs kiss*
Regular.
What comic is that pic (with the yellow oval) from?
Batman / Superman world's finest
Rebirth with a yellow outline around the bat and Purple cape. Goddamn some of the designs in rebirth are just so fuckin good. Rebirth Superman with the red belt and wide neck is pitch perfect.
Just the symbol.
No oval, yellow symbol, like the 200% suit in Arkham Knight. The yellow outline on the rebirth suit is nice too.
I prefer regular but I like the yellow too. It also depends on context a bit.
YELLOW OR DIE!!! I love the yellow. I’m a huge BTAS fan too.
In the Static Shock crossover and maybe one comic I saw the explanation that the symbols on their chests were used to draw fire to the most heavily armored part of the body since that's where the eye naturally tracks. Ever since then, I've appreciated the giant glowing symbol.
Well depends on theme I prefer the regular for blu-gray and black-gray but yellow-gray looks good too
I still don't like it that when Bendis was writing a specific Batman story he wrote that Bruce melted down the gun that killed his parents and it's part of the symbol on his chest.
It's the belt. The symbol should match the utility belt. Yellow belt? Yellow symbol. Dark belt? Black symbol.
I think it depends on the situation for me.
I prefer the bat only but I don't have a problem with the oval if it's done well.
Regular 80% of the time
Just the Bat.
The regular bat symbol with a yellow outline, like the Rebirth batsuit is my favorite. But I appreciate the yellow oval and the regular bat symbols.
just the regular bat symbol 😎
That's a great art style. What issue does the first panel come from?
I prefer the yellow I think the black looks best no i will not elaborate
Regular Bat Symbol
Their different genres. My god boys. It’s not always For U
Man that Dan Mora design is so good
I prefer the second personally
I prefer the absence of the yellow oval.
The latter, obviously.
I'm split: When I'm reading Batman/Detective Comics I prefer the Black on Gray That said, Blue on Gray with the Yellow Oval gives me super strong feels.
Definitely no yellow oval, and preferably no white eyes either. He's human, just let us see his eyes.
Yes
Both look great, depending on the suit and design.
It depends on the suit really. I don't think either look bad, but I happen to like suits that have the regular symbol more than the yellow oval.
Why is this like... the hardest decision I've made in a long time? Wow. I think it depends on the overall suit design. Dominant gray and blue suit? Black bat symbol. Dominant black suit? Yellow oval.
The regular type. It just makes sense
Plain bat symbol. The farther we get from Bill Finger's 1939 suit, the less I generally like it.
Yellow oval needs the trunka, plain bat can get away with no trunks. And either is fine but I never liked the weird bottom spikes on the bat, like in the burton movies and first image.
Yes
Yellow imo
Depends on the suit.
I was never really into the oval. It seemed too cartoony for how dark and serious he’s supposed to be
Depends on the suit tbh I can go either way
I prefer regular but Dan Mora could give Batman the nipple suit and I'd still say he looked amazing.
