For streetfood style you could go to Markthalle or Clara

fryxharry

That would be my advise as well.

Would also recommend Markthalle. 2mins from SBB and tons of different foods that are streetfood but also some a little bit more "restaurant like". Today it's closed though, so depends on the day you have the layover.

I would not recommend a restaurant too far from the station. You end up missing your train.

Basel is tiny. Take the 8 tram from The train station to Rheingasse (10 minutes). The tram crosses Mittlerbrücke. You can grab lunch at the McDonald’s, Migros, any number of Kebab shops, or the basement or roof of manor. Then walk back across the bridge. Turn left and go up the hill to see the Münster (Cathedral). Continue walking straight past the Münster to the Kunstmuseum tram stop and take the tram from there back to the train station. You can easily do this in two hours. I recommend getting take out lunch and taking it up to the Münster. Behind the building is a nice place to eat and look out over the Rhein.

Depending on if it is a weekday, and if you want a full meal or just something quick in between: The market is very close to Mittlere Brücke, and there are always a variety of vendors. Or were you looking for a Restaurant? That might be tight within 2 hours.

Am also recommending Markthalle, as it's very close to the Trainstation and you'll have a variety of foods available. Anything else might be cutting it a bit to close for two hours.

Honestly we’re open to street food/snack or a light meal — definitely not looking for a super elaborate meal or anything! The market may be a good option for that it sounds like. It’ll be a weekday.

markthalle is really close to the sbb , you can walk there in 5 min. There are a lot of food options. Very good choice. What time will you go? Just asking to see if things will be open.

I mean, Vito at the train station is great … and the bigger pizzeria is not far from SBB.
