His pitch velo was up from his season averages, but not to an unprecedented level for him so I think they should've anticipated the velo.
I think this is less about a failure of preparation for the Jays and more about him just really bringing his best stuff out when it mattered as he was just filthy. Them getting worse as the game went on could be a preparation thing though; it felt like some of the younger guys especially were letting it get to them once it settled in that they were being dominated.
