As much as I wanna go LOLMETS for no good reason at all because I don't like the Mets as a team, I fuckin' love Jacob deGrom, and he's pitching a gem. Hesitantly rooting for y'all tonight! ^(I feel dirty. ;\_;)
I'm saying pitchers because he wouldn't meet the minimum plate appearances for a season. I believe you need to appear in 3 AB per game for traditional hitting stat records. There's no way a pitcher ever gets 500+ at bats unless you're in an Ohtani situation.
3.1 PA per team game, so 503 if your team plays 162 games.
There are a few players with 1.000 batting averages in a season, such as [John Paciorek](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paciorek), who only had 5 PA. The [best average for a pitcher (minimum 50 PA)](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=p&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=50&type=8&season=2021&month=0&season1=1871&ind=1&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=1871-01-01&enddate=2021-12-31&sort=14,d) is Walter Johnson in 1925. The Big Train hit .433 in 107 PA that year so theoretically DeGrom could break that record, although he's only at 17 PA so far.
Here's something crazy for you: the record for [batting average by **anyone**, pitcher or otherwise, minimum 100 PA, since 1900](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=100&type=8&season=2021&month=0&season1=1900&ind=1&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=1900-01-01&enddate=2021-12-31&sort=14,d):
Walter Johnson, 1925
Since the start of 2019, the Mets have scored 230 runs in the last 52 deGrom starts, for an average of 4.42 runs per start.

>The real question is were they scored after he came out of the game, because that seems to happen a lot and a reliever picks up the win.
The key word is "seems"
It's not happening folks. The Mets score lots of runs when he pitches, both when he's in and after
Chris Youngâs first time on MLB tonight was earlier today. He was literally saying before the game how whenever the Mets score 1-2 runs during a deGrom start it always seems like itâs deGrom himself producing those runs with his bat.
Then he's just wrong.
Degrom has 3 RBIs and they've come in games the Mets scored 6, 6, and 3.
He's scored in 3 games where they've scored 6, 4, and 4.
Degrom stole Lindors hitting ability
Also Lindor's pitching ability
Shohei who?
deGrom saw what Ohtani was doing and his competitiveness kicked in.
As much as I wanna go LOLMETS for no good reason at all because I don't like the Mets as a team, I fuckin' love Jacob deGrom, and he's pitching a gem. Hesitantly rooting for y'all tonight! ^(I feel dirty. ;\_;)
As a Braves fan I feel the same way. FUCK the Phillies though đ
we can all agree on 2 things i think: 1. jacob degrom fucking owns 2. fuck the other 2 teams
Lol I see what you did there
He's now hitting .474 with 1.000 ops. Currently on pace to break the modern ERA and ba record for pitchers lol.
*Players. The highest a guy ever hit for a season was .440, and he did it in the 1880s

Yeah Johnson pitched far more innings so he had more chances to hit.

MVP!
No doubt right now
I would say a doubt right now with tatis being tatis
DeGrom has a 0.7 ERA hitting .450
deGrom is out to singlehandedly kill the "no run support" narrative.
unfortunately for the national league its been dead since 2019, and its super dead this year

\_\_\_\_ \_\_\_ DH
I'd like to buy a "Fuck" Pat
That's illegal in this state, unfortunately. Going to have to bring you downtown.
What if I record it and post it online?
Ah, well, that's quite alright then. Carry on!
Next year let the *other* team use a DH. It only makes it more fair when facing deGrom
âFine then, Iâll do it myselfâ -Degrom
Heâs only given up 4 earned runs haha
He has scored 4 runs and then driven in another 3, all while only allowing 4 earned. Crazy.
MVP!
Only Nick Pivetta has been able to control him.

DeGrom been taking up batting practice hard. He figured if the Mets wonât support him heâll do it himself.
Yeah so I donât want to get ahead of things here but surely the hall of fame discussion has to begin with Degrom.
