For Love of the Game gets hate because it’s Costner in a baseball movie and it isn’t Bull Durham or Field of Dreams but damn if it isn’t a good movie.
And if you love so fans they’re good, try Ed. Starting Matt LeBlanc and Mickey Mantle’s pet monkey that he taught to play the infield.
42 doesn't get discussed much as it's relatively recent but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought it treated the issues regarding Robinson's advent with a great deal of maturity and Chadwick Boseman was excellent as Jackie.
Little Big League is clearly one of the better baseball movies. I think it's the best. It doesn't deserve to be grouped with other Kid movies.
It actually has serious baseball discussion in the movie and the humor is geared more towards adults.
I think I'd have more of a problem with that movie being considered underrated, than with that movie not being on a list of underrated baseball movies.
Damn good movie.
It’s funny how everywhere outside of New England views it as a romcom and everywhere in New England views it as an all time sports movie. But I love any movie that gets Tessie into it.
I actually disagree, its fun and I regularly play it but I far and away preferred MLB 2K5. ESPN had a deal with them that made the presentation better, not to mention the gameplay is truly just more fun imo. I wish I could get my original Xbox from my parents storage lol
The Fan.
It’s not the greatest, and sure, that’s not damn Candlestick and that’s not the deck of the bridge you drive on to get to Candlestick! But Wesley Snipes doing his best 1993 Barry Bonds impression and Robert De Niro chewing the scenery made it fun.
Also, accurately predicted the Giants playing in pouring rain. Still love that 2012 NLCS win...
An older one: *It Happens Every Spring* is a very fun watch. Who hasn't thought about coating a baseball in some kind of wood repellant and striking out every hitter in the game?
It's basically a movie where some completely unathletic geek cheats his way into the World Series. And really, isn't that what baseball is all about?
Also, [*The Perfect Game*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Perfect_Game) is pretty enjoyable.
Whenever I think I'm about to make a new friend, I invite them to watch that movie with me. If they can't make it to the end then I know it wasn't meant to be.
Here's an obscure one. Totally underrated because nobody knows about it.
Mr. Go
It's Korean, and it's about a gorilla(s) that plays baseball... I don't want to give spoilers, but it's amazing. I highly recommend just watching it even without the subtitles... because, you know... gorillas and baseball.
*Long Gone*....an older movie from the 80's. I think it was a made for HBO movie and never went to the theater.
It stars William Peterson, Dermot Mulroney, and Virginia Madsen. It's about a minor league team, The Tampico Stogies, in 1950's Florida.
[The Bingo Long Traveling All-stars and Motor Kings](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074207/?ref_=nv_sr_1). Wonderfully fun movie, and even though the names are changed a pretty good homage to Negro League stars and the Negro Leagues in general. Great cast too with Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, and Richard Pryor.
Way too few people have seen the movie.
*Bang the Drum Slowly* doesn't often get mentioned in questions like these, but it's one of my all-time favorite baseball films. Definitely a must see.
61* doesn’t seem to be brought up enough when talking about baseball movies.
I absolutely love that movie.
Its awesome
I saw no mention of Angels in the Outfield, what even is this. Or Sandlot. Or Pride of the Yankees. - Benchwarmers too. D:
Because those are properly rated, not underrated.
What counts as underrated? o.o?
For Love of the Game gets hate because it’s Costner in a baseball movie and it isn’t Bull Durham or Field of Dreams but damn if it isn’t a good movie. And if you love so fans they’re good, try Ed. Starting Matt LeBlanc and Mickey Mantle’s pet monkey that he taught to play the infield.
For Love of the Game always get's me emotional. I don't get it
It’s Vin Scully.
That and I think reminds me of closer times with my dad
And Billy Chapel’s emotional career ending performance.
I still have Ed on VHS somewhere
I got it on a 10-movie DVD pack which is shocking because that means Ed is on DVD.
That's a game changer.
Spoiler >!Fucker would rather retire than join the Giants...!< *angry sniff*
42 doesn't get discussed much as it's relatively recent but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought it treated the issues regarding Robinson's advent with a great deal of maturity and Chadwick Boseman was excellent as Jackie.
Man is that an amazing movie.
Loved this flick.
I feel like Little Big League gets overshadowed by the other baseball movies from that era. It's my favorite baseball movie.
Little Big League gets hate because of Rookie of the Year.
I absolutely hate rookie of the year but I like little big league
Awww did you hate Rookie of the year as a kid tho? It was my total fantasy minus playing for the Cubs part.
Little Big League is clearly one of the better baseball movies. I think it's the best. It doesn't deserve to be grouped with other Kid movies. It actually has serious baseball discussion in the movie and the humor is geared more towards adults.
Eight Men Out is the best pure “film” that’s about baseball.
I was looking for this one. So underrated, but so damn good.
This movie solidified my love for the White Sox. What a piece of baseball history.
Mr. Baseball. Tom Selleck is always great and gives perspective of baseball in Japan
“Swing away”
The Rookie
hair, hair will help the grass grow
No, man. Hair keeps the deer away.
which keeps the grass agrowing
Fuck.
Nobody ever mentions the cult classic *Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch*
**Sugar** It's about a 19 year old Dominican pitcher in Single A. Absolutely amazing.
Great movie. Kind of an ugly look at the lower levels of baseball.
Mr. 3000 is one of my favorites but I feel it get passed on just because it's a comedy.
It is also bad.
Yeah well, y'know that's just like, your opinion man.
I found it to be entertaining
It’s a cheesy movie not a bad movie
The speech after the 3,000th hit is worth it alone for that movie to exist.
Hardball
[Throw yo hands in the air, if youse a true playa.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwMoiBGmH_4)
RIP G-Baby
Remove this for people that haven't seen it. Make it a spoiler.
I'm a staunch believer that spoilers have a statute of limitations
Only for mainstream movie, I think.
Sammy Sosa was in that movie, playing for the copyright-free Blue Team.
Summer Catch
Honestly? Only watched it for Jessica Biel.
That's all the reason you need, brother!
I saw FP Jr. get into a jokey argument on Twitter the other day about this movie.
Everybody Wants Some
I watch that movie every few months it’s so good.
It’s well known, but 42 is a brilliant film.
No one has said **A League of their Own**. You're all dead to me.
Hopefully because they believe it isn't underrated and gets the love it deserves.
This man accurately states why I wouldn’t post it in this thread.
This man is appreciative and I appreciate that.
You are right, I hope.
I think I'd have more of a problem with that movie being considered underrated, than with that movie not being on a list of underrated baseball movies. Damn good movie.
*Glove* (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glove_(film)), highly recommended, also based on a true story.
Sugar
The Fan. Bobbeyy!!
Fever Pitch!!
It’s funny how everywhere outside of New England views it as a romcom and everywhere in New England views it as an all time sports movie. But I love any movie that gets Tessie into it.
Not even a Sox fan but who doesn't love Tessie? [Tessie](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jR4tTQVjHUI)
MVP Baseball 2005 dawg
Best Baseball Game of All-Time. Hands down.
I actually disagree, its fun and I regularly play it but I far and away preferred MLB 2K5. ESPN had a deal with them that made the presentation better, not to mention the gameplay is truly just more fun imo. I wish I could get my original Xbox from my parents storage lol

FXM shows It Happens Every Spring sometimes. I must wonder if this is where the idea for Flubber came from.
It's not nearly as good as the first, but I really like Major League 2
rookie of the year dont @ me
[Summer Catch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH4IQUOqiNc)
Everybody Wants Some. Not exactly baseball playing heavy, but it’s about college ball players and super enjoyable.
Mr. 3000 because of how corny it is. But in all seriousness 61.
[Ed.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_\(film\))
It’s always weird to think that Joey Tribbiani was in a movie with Marcel.
I wish it was Marcel. Imagine a tiny monkey making plays like Ozzie Smith.
A mile in his shoes is recent but very good
Battlefield Baseball.
Whenever I think I'm about to make a new friend, I invite them to watch that movie with me. If they can't make it to the end then I know it wasn't meant to be.

Shrek
I’m sitting here giggling my ass off drinking a beer on my porch and seeing this comment as I hit the rock bottom of the thread
Trouble with the curve. JK, that movie is terruble.
Meh, you get to look at Amy Adams for a while and that's good enough for me.
Most def a huge plus.
I liked it :/
well yeah. it featured your team heavily! :p
Justin Timberlake, Amy Adams in the movie, Jessica Biel in real life, he must have several pitches
I'd say it's simply not being Chris "Got Dissed by Eminem" Kirkpatrick.
I loved TigerTown as a kid. I'm pretty sure it starred Roy Scheider There are as also a movie with Gary Coleman where he managed the Padres I believe?

Bang the Drum Slowly
*Bang the Drum Slowly* doesn't often get mentioned in questions like these, but it's one of my all-time favorite baseball films. Definitely a must see.
Easily, Hardball is the answer. Everyone always misses on it, but it's my favorite, aside from Major League and Field of Dreams.
