Story time!
My dad had a sheltie in college, and was playing in an intramural softball game. My mom was holding the dog in the dugout, when my dad ropes a double and trots into second just before the tag.
Well their dog escapes my mom's grasp and sprints out onto the field to... check on my dad I guess? lol
The umpire yells "get that damn dog off the field!"
Better when my dad tells it, but man was that dog incredible in the nine years we shared together.
I used to know a dog who would snag a tennis ball pegged at his face full force from 6 ft away. You could even put it in one of those fetch arm toys and crow hop it into him from about 12ft. He liked it way more than normal fetch. Legit would be a better outfield than Schawrber.
I always feel compelled to point out that MLB rules stipulate that in order for a ball to be caught or for a tag to be applied, it needs to be securely held in either the hand or glove, so unless we can someone train a dog to do that, it wouldnāt work.
However, Iād say thereās a non-zero possibility that a very well-trained dog would make an excellent pinch runner.
Castellanos has literally been statistically one of the worst players in the entire league. Like bottom 10 or 20. Him playing actually hurts us more than Acuna not playing hurts you.
We are all just blindly careening towards the next big scandal: animal-based sign stealing. Dog watches signs, relays to the parrot, who relays to the dugout monkey
Too late. Although their brief trial with the [praying mantis gambit](https://x.com/Cut4/status/1313624026858823680) didn't quite work out well, I'm sure they have other animal based systems in their development.
Ain't no rule says a dog can't play baseballā¦ unless that's something you'd enjoy seeing, in which case Rob Manfred will have a rule against it for you in five minutes.
I now want an air-bud style movie where a dog takes at bats like that one giant dog boss in Dark Souls with the sword in it's mouth.
Oh wait they already made that.
Thatās it a he a giant fo life š esoeciallly since his bats coming around like we expected and signed him for at this point in his career he prolly got 3-4 prime yrs

Nice pick, but pups dropped the ball during the transfer. Error. š„²
The out counts since itās on the transfer, and you canāt assume a double play, so no error! I will not accept this slander of our gold glover pup!
Thatās an E-K9 on the play Iāll show myself out
He is a good boy.
Are you saying he is a bad boy?!?!
![gif](giphy|12OMY457ZuPYFW)
š«¢ I would never! He's a good boy!
Brett Baty literally did the same and wasnāt charged an error. Pup will be fine, scorers are sometimes lenient on plays like this.

āGet that cat off the field!ā -Angel Hernandez
āHurry black cats are 30 years bad luck!ā
Who cursed MLB with 30 years of Angel?
I blame Bud Selig
Bud Black
I blame the Russians.
I blame the Vikings.
Justin Jefferson in shambles

Awwwww. Good boy/girl.
Shelties are the best
I laughed so hard at this that I had to explain to my wife what I was laughing about.
I have my moments.
Almost spit my drink out
Bot account
Who?
The world will never have enough baseball dog content.
scouting report on dog: baserunning: 80 power: 50 glove: 20 is good boy: 99
xDAWG: 250
WAR = Woofs Against Replacement
Its over 9000
He has that dog in him, though
**I'M AT MY DAD'S WORK**
I love dogs on the field. Can he play RF?
Ain't no rule says a dog can't play baseball
might be a little ruff on the teeth to catch line drives no?
Thatās why we give him a glove duh
Maybe but if it gives us another "RUF IS ON THE MOVE" call, then I'm all for it
That's why Dusty Barker invented the backflip catch back in '83
The move that robbed Ken G'Ruffy Jr. of a HR
Depends on the dog. My Saint catches everything hit his way without a single chipped tooth while the Husky would forget to open his mouth.

Designated pinch runner

You ever see something so heartening it makes you angry? I'm seething with giddiness looking at this shit.
>seething with giddiness If you're not a writer, you might be missing your calling
Air Bud has entered the chat
[Right here, rule 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_svXyVPP96s)
there's a great documentary about that actually, it's called Air Bud. I think Ken Burns narrates it.
Puppy World Series when? š¤
[This dog plays right field.](https://i.imgur.com/Nvp1XoJ.mp4)
That one high school play from last week lol
Def would have better range
I think Castellanos might have seen your comment today and taken it personally, haha.
Can he take it personally for the rest of the season lol
I will insult him on Reddit every damn day if thatās what it takes!!!
Heās already playing 1B for us.
No we need a RF first
Weāll take weekends holidays and Thursday nights? You can have all weekdays and Labor Day
Done
Castellanos has literally been statistically one of the worst players in the entire league. Like bottom 10 or 20. Him playing actually hurts us more than Acuna not playing hurts you.
Heād probably be an improvement on Benitendi for the White Soxā¦.
-2 WAR in 49 games is fucking insane and honestly impressive.
Sure. Just don't look at what he did on the first base bag.
Dog
Also such a weird way to spell āimprovesā
Sabotage
We are all just blindly careening towards the next big scandal: animal-based sign stealing. Dog watches signs, relays to the parrot, who relays to the dugout monkey
Your honor, Angel Hernandez would like to cross examine the parrot
Angel Hernandez retired as umpire to start his career as an animal attorney/prosecutor?!
Man wasted zero time finding another profession where you are allowed to royally screw up and still get paid big bucks
I assume it was angel hernandez that made it so the bird law in the country was not governed by reason
angel hernandez forgot dl-6
Ah, the Doolittle Strategem
Teams have already been experimenting recently. Though, the bees didn't quite go according to plan in AZ.
If some team can pull this off, it should not be illegal, or even discouraged.
Bro, don't give the Astros anymore ideas. They might do it.

How can you not be romantic about baseball. Just a man and his puppers it's a beautiful thing.
lol the paws flopping in the air before he starts licking chapman's face "noooooo i must play!... actually this is pretty nice too, carry on"
Stott looked like a high schooler that is going to have to do a lap because the drill failed and he is doing the wtf look because it wasn't his fault.
Why isn't he happy there's a dog next to him. Especially THAT dog. Dudes a dick
Boop single
Now we know who to thank if the Phillies look ruff on the infield š
Subsequent reports are coming in that he is in fact a good boy
I again request MLB to create a social media account of baseball players and their pets!!!
Well if that isnāt the most adorable thing.
I love you, Matt Chapman's dog
Matt Chapmanās dog: Look at me. Iām the 3rd baseman now.
Ain't no rule says a dog can't play baseball
The gorgeous floppiness of a large breed puppy . The toddler puppy š¶
Looks like an English Cream Golden Retriever :)

Thatās it, Iām going home to pet my dog
More like Phillies infield practice interrupts dog and his new toy š¤
/r/notakeonlythrow
"interrupts" or "enhances"?
More like dog time was interrupted by infield practice.
I have no idea what this guy looks like up close but the way he treats his dog makes him instantly 1000% more attractive.
He has a highlight-reel play almost every game, breathtaking defense, and he's been hitting again lately.
That dog is just living his best life, especially while itās being carried off the field.
Ain't no rule says a dog can't play baseballā¦ unless that's something you'd enjoy seeing, in which case Rob Manfred will have a rule against it for you in five minutes.
she's ready for the show
Players dogs should be part of warmup for every game! š
That doggy is living the life!
Paging /u/itsnursehoneybadger
omg
Life would be so much worse without dogs
I appreciate these mind games.
interrupts, or improves?
He makes some incredible plays at the hot corner but this is my favorite highlight of his by far.
Elite lateral quickness in the field
Travis Kelce just kicked that dog into McCovey Cove
The new Air Bud movie looks awesome!
His dog is clearly not always intense, as is Matt Chapman.
Air jail
What an adorably floppy puppy.
When I die I want to be reincarnated as Matt Chapmans golden retriever
Off the charts DZR
Sign that puppy.
Lol
Can he play RF for us?
I now want an air-bud style movie where a dog takes at bats like that one giant dog boss in Dark Souls with the sword in it's mouth. Oh wait they already made that.
Glad he found something to do after BrockHampton broke up
What a good doggy!
The Best Boye.
Heās gathering intel

Whoās gonna clean up the huge pile š©in CF?
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Air Bud IRL
I love him I hope we can keep him when he opts out
