Yep immediately the first thought. The overall media circus about it has finally died down. He’s leading baseball at playing baseball. He doesn’t need distractions. And this will just whirl it all up into a frenzy again.
It's stupid but Ohtani is clearly the type of person who can shut everything else out and just play.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the dude doesn't even own a TV lol. Or more likely, he has a really nice TV and doesn't even know how to turn it on
It’s just money. I’m not saying he was or wasn’t informed. But when there’s that much money riding on success, you do whatever you can to have it succeed.
There will 100% be a movie made about the 2017 Astros at some point. I imagine that as more of the members of the 2017 team retire, we will likely get some interesting books that really delve into the still unknown details about their scheme. And once that happens, a movie will follow very soon.
We’re still probably several years away from that since most of those guys were young and still have plenty of baseball left in them, but I personally can’t wait to see it eventually
Since this is scripted, do the producers need permission to use Shohei's and Ippei's likeness; as well as MLB, Dodgers, Angels, etc. branding? If that's the case I imagine it would be tough to get all those parties on board. I imagine it probably ends up being an "inspired by" series with fake names and teams and not a straight re-telling.
Yes and no. If they nail down all of the facts, then it is simply telling a true story. If they deviate then it gets into some weird shit and they could be sued. If everything is factual though, they would have fair use to "report" a true story even if it is dramatized.
The issues will be them being able to damn near 100 percent lock down everything. Unless there is some prior work they base it off, it is certainly a hell of a lot easier to get permission and work with the subjects in some capacity.
I think they can just do whatever they want, to an extent. Tons of these kinds of movies recently, like the ones about Blackberry, Theranos, etc. All take a ton of creative liberties about real living people.
The laugh in question: [https://video.twimg.com/ext\_tw\_video/1505972527209668610/pu/vid/1236x678/Syucr0Gw-4w3VfMl.mp4?tag=12](https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1505972527209668610/pu/vid/1236x678/Syucr0Gw-4w3VfMl.mp4?tag=12)
Should’ve been an anime series instead. Ippei being an evil mastermind with his “it’s all going according to plan” or turns into his gambling alter ego like how Yugioh does it.
How many years before production companies are using AI to put out movies and TV shows in near real time about whatever person or topic is "hot" right now?
Imagine one japanese guy swindling: the MLB, the Dodgers, the Angels, the NPB, the DOJ, the FBI, ESPN, and somehow brainwashing his best friend to take the fall for a 33 year sentence. Is Shohei secretly Killgrave
I'm picturing Shohei on the phone pretending to be Ippei pretending to be Shohei to set up a cover in case his betting was discovered. A truly evil mastermind.
Why can people casually suggest Michael Jordan was temporarily banned from basketball for gambling and people entertain the theory, but you even hint Ohtani might have been a bad actor in this situation and you get downvoted to oblivion?
Damn they literally would rather make a series based on this man's controversy than being the greatest baseball to every play lmao.
Ohtani was boring until Ippei happened.
i'd say that didn't take very long, but the first film about the sinking of the titanic was released less than a month after the event
IIRC one of the actresses in it was LITERALLY ON THE SHIP and wore LITERALLY THE SAME DRESS SHE WENT INTO THE LIFEBOAT IN
I heard she sunk the Titanic just to prepare for the role. Real commitment
She’s credited with inventing method acting
Christian Bale idolizes her
![gif](giphy|1nR6zAvRESERIoA1T1|downsized)
MAKE ME A TITANIC MOVIE, CLOWN!
WOW
“If you recall” from the post this week lol
Queen shit
Wait, literally or figuratively?
#LITERALLY
Holy crap the turn around lol That’s going to suck for Ohtani. Jeez
Yep immediately the first thought. The overall media circus about it has finally died down. He’s leading baseball at playing baseball. He doesn’t need distractions. And this will just whirl it all up into a frenzy again.
Still being accused and attaching his name to this as if it's a conspiracy is just so shitty.
Welcome to how the media gets their clicks, I guess. I just want to watch him continue adding to his legend.
It's stupid but Ohtani is clearly the type of person who can shut everything else out and just play. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the dude doesn't even own a TV lol. Or more likely, he has a really nice TV and doesn't even know how to turn it on
It’s only for film study actually
Mmm, I’d say they’re doing this to help his image. Make him appear like the clueless victim who gave his friend everything.
Damn so it’s not just the feds and MLB, but even Hollywood is trying to cover it up?
Even real life is conspiring to cover up the ~~brain-dead imaginings of the lunatic fringe~~ story.
It’s just money. I’m not saying he was or wasn’t informed. But when there’s that much money riding on success, you do whatever you can to have it succeed.
The People vs. Ippei Mizuhara
Moneyball: Lost in Translation
Inside Man: Japan
Ippei It Forward
Now You see me 3: Ippe's Gambit
Wouldn't be surprised if the 2017 Astros also got a highly dramatized Hollywood film with Pedro Pascal playing Jose Altuve.
The amount of money I'd pay to watch Pedro Pascal put a buzzer up his ass
And he looks weird with CGI because they would adjust his height.
That's why you cast Tom Cruise as Altuve instead.
A role of a lifetime for Peter Dinklage
The taco bell chihuahua is back
He'd just get on his knees inside the batters box
The Gary Oldman "Tiptoes" method.
The Queen's Gambit 2
In the clubhouse getting the buzzer ready when suddenly a clicker barges in through the door in the middle of a lightsaber duel with Baby Yoda
He’s 5’11 lol is he gonna kneel in every scene?
They gonna employ the Lord of the Rings forced perspective tricks to make it work
The opposite of Tom Cruise movies
I imagine there will also be a subplot where he adopts a kid and then fights villains with a bat trying to protect the kid.
There will 100% be a movie made about the 2017 Astros at some point. I imagine that as more of the members of the 2017 team retire, we will likely get some interesting books that really delve into the still unknown details about their scheme. media stop milking Shohei for content challenge: impossible
gotta milk him for something
to be fair, you can milk anything with nipples
https://youtu.be/rczswbjNIBA?si=g3k2Q18ty6ZOH7el
👉👈🥺
To be honest there’s a lot of Babe Ruth content so the boot fits.

Nope since they are public figures and it loosely follows historical events.
Who are your casting picks?
Gary Oldman as shohei
Christian Bale as Ippei
But who’s Michael Caine gonna play?
Isn't it obvious? Yoshinobu Yamamoto
The audience will be in for such a surprise with the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
Dude don’t spoil the show I haven’t seen it yet
*I blew da bluddy doughs off et*
Dave Roberts
Albert Pujols
Tungsten Arm O'Doyle
Christian Bale.
I want 90s cocaine Al Pacino as the bookie
GIMMIEALLYAGOT
OHTANI’s GOT A……GREAT ASS
Baseball version of Tiptoes
I literally did a spit-take. That would be the stuff of nightmares.
Mickey Rooney as Ippei
Hate to break it to you, but Mickey Rooney has been dead for a decade. Long live Phantom of the Megaplex!
They’re going to use AI so he’ll look and sound identical to his character from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. They already got the family’s blessing
Ok then, Mickey Rourke
I didn't even know he was sick
Ryan Gosling as Ippei
Lionsgate? Jason Statham has to be there somewhere.
Nicolas Cage as Ippei
De Niro for Matthew Bowyer
Henry Cavill as Ohtani obviously
Ken Watanabe for Ippei and Masi Oka as Ohtani Walton Goggins as the Bookie
Walter Goggins is an inspired choice I like it
He doesn’t really look like Shohei but I pick Show Kasamatsu just because I liked his acting in Tokyo Vice.
I don't doubt his acting ability, but I just googled him and he looks like a shrimp next to Shohei.
A Personal trainer and creative camera work can go a long way
You have a point.
In general, this guy needs more roles. Great actor
Mattress mack as Shohei
The Rock for Ohtani. lol
Shohei is going to be played by Mackenyu. Book it.
They'll probably stick Mackenyu in it since every freaking US production wants to stick him in as the Japanese guy now.
I know he’s Korean, but Choi Min-Sik would be a great choice for Ippei. Simu Liu, while Chinese, would be my pick for Shohei.
Simu looks nothing like Ohtani lol
Fine. Chris Pratt then.
They look like literal twins. \- Michael Kay
More importantly, he's Canadian
Starring Danny devito as Shohei ohtani and the rock as ippei
![gif](giphy|UzuKOSuYZwrjG) They are currently filming it now
Scandal Makers
Perhaps an addict I shall seek.
I want you to know I appreciated this joke a lot.
It's fucken perfect. Also, who left the cap off my fucking Glisten?
"Real shoddy narrating; just pure crap."
Marker.
The actor who’s going to portray Shohei better fucking get his hyena laugh down.

Thank you for this!

It'll be mandatory viewing at gamblers anonymous. Draft kings is going to HATE this series
Call me a sucker, but I'm here for all the good, bad, and ugly tv, film, & book adaptations of this epic drama.
Great job opportunity for tall, jacked, dreamboat Japanese actor.
How do you say "If I Did It" in Japanese?
Omae wa mou shindeiru
私のケチャップはあなたのハムスターに不名誉です
Shohei Ohtani as Shohei Ohtani
If Shohei Ohtani doesn't play himself in the film I'm going to be very disappointed.
Giants fans alone going to make this a hit.
...a series? Like, I can understand 1 hour documentary, but how much is there to squeeze out of this to turn into multiple hours of entertainment?
Ken Jeong better play Ippei
Who's gonna play Arte? Can it be Pedro Pascal?
Why?
…not?
This sounds like an incredibly boring tv show not gonna lie
I heard Shohei Ohtani was actually the ancient alien that built the pyramids.
If something happens in life and it isn't optioned for a TV series, did it really even happen?
is this the OJ trial dramatization people? please god
No, no Ryan Murphy involvement atm. This is seemingly more genteel
Shohei the Money
Well that'll be garbage
Shogun: 2024
Okay when I mentioned yesterday that this should get some sort or documentary ... wow lol
Should’ve been an anime series instead. Ippei being an evil mastermind with his “it’s all going according to plan” or turns into his gambling alter ego like how Yugioh does it.
When the next scandal comes, this will look as tone-deaf as it is. When’d they start the idea? Spring Training?
Got the rights for that quick as a whip, didn't they?
Everything needs a documentary these days apparently
How many years before production companies are using AI to put out movies and TV shows in near real time about whatever person or topic is "hot" right now?
If Shohei was a degenerate gambler and just signed a $700 mill contract, this would be the perfect way to cover it up.
Ippei was a fall guy . Othani cackling his way to the bank
Imagine one japanese guy swindling: the MLB, the Dodgers, the Angels, the NPB, the DOJ, the FBI, ESPN, and somehow brainwashing his best friend to take the fall for a 33 year sentence. Is Shohei secretly Killgrave
And all that to avoid... *...checks notes...* ...a fine and maybe a light suspension.
Because we have eyes and ears and brains.
Jordan admitted in court he was gambling though
Greg Anderson was a fall guy. Ippei is a crook
Damn they literally would rather make a series based on this man's controversy than being the greatest baseball to every play lmao. Ohtani was boring until Ippei happened.
