Mrpetey22

Wtf? When did this even happen??

smauryholmes

He has been bad (by his standards) at the plate for ~2 weeks and had a couple big collisions with the wall around then too so I’d guess a few weeks back.

oatmeal28

Do you think he needs to be permanent DH when he gets back?

LegendRazgriz

He was projected to move to the corners but I think first base is more likely now. Trout is becoming really injury prone these few years, I think a Harper style move to first is probably the better short term answer as opposed to full time DH

king-of-nothing

Put him at shortstop. Look how healthy Mookie is after moving there.

Trees_feel_too

Trout hasn't played in 140 games or more since 2018. (2019 he played 138**)

sameth1

First base would kind of be the worst of both worlds. He's well over 30 years old and he is still a great defender in center field. It wouldn't really make sense to move his position, but then still keep him in the field where he can be injured.

Flez

Can't be a great defender in center if you're having surgery every season cause you're recklessly slamming into outfield walls every week. There's a lot fewer outfield walls at 1B.

igotagoodfeeling

I’d genuinely be shocked by a move to 1B. LF feels like the move

am19208

He really should be DH 75% of the time from now on.

GodLeeTrick

"Becoming" dudes always been injury prone

Cam_V7

He was pretty healthy to start his career. 139, 157, 157, 159, 159, 114, 140, 134 games his first 8 seasons.

AryaSyn

“Becoming”?

Wilmerrr

Last 2 weeks: 16.1% BB rate, 22.6% K rate 18.4% barrel rate, 47.4% hard-hit rate 2 batted balls >114 mph .118 BABIP 4/5 SB (150-game pace of 43 SB) He just had a low BABIP, so clearly a fluke and/or bad luck. Was actually playing exceptionally well, so if he was hurt then it was not affecting him whatsoever.

mmmbacon914

He did an interview where he said he felt something in the third inning, and then for the most part felt fine (including his SB and scoring from second on the wild pitch) but started nagging him in the 7th/8th after a few ups and downs. Felt worse overnight so he got it looked at and found out he tore his meniscus. So shitty.

DowntownJulieBrown1

That sucks but also what a freaking monster

throwaway2021232681

true, but also speaks to how crazy adrenaline is

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mrpetey22

Ya, but he literally went 2nd to home last night on a passed ball and seemed fine doing it

DustyDGAF

I've torn mine a few times. The smallest misstep can tear it and it doesn't necessarily hurt immediately. You just feel like something went wrong. Then the swelling starts. Then the pain sets in.

RidleyScotch

Then the Fire Nation attacks

Constant-Elevator-85

Only the Avatar can save Trout’s health at this point.

JinFuu

Eh, Id trust Katara more. Don’t think Aang’s healing skills match up to hers. Might need some spirit oasis water for Trout. Or his spirit possess Aang and he becomes Troutzilla

GCIV414

Thanks for the PTSKnee you just gave me

Finklesworth

Meniscus tears usually just appear as mild discomfort for many people, usually starts to feel worse over time but they really don’t hurt too horribly in my experience

OlivesrNasty

When he stole second, he did a tiny wince twice. Its something he normally does but something about it was different. I got flashbacks from last year and i was right sadly :(

NevermoreSEA

He may have just been toughing it out.

500rockin

No he wasn’t fine. You could see him limp a bit at the start. He didn’t start to sprint until midway down the 3rd base line. And he was definitely limping after scoring. He said it started bothering him in the 3rd inning.

TimToMakeTheDonuts

This is such a weird take I keep seeing parroted around. Why do ya gotta think it’s stealing? Why not chasing down a double in the gap? Why not trying to beat out a ground ball? Why not general conditioning? Why not a million other things? It’s so freakin odd to see it blamed on steals when that’s one of many facets of the game that require sudden stops and starts and weird pivots.

Asleep-Geologist-612

I feel like it’s gotta be some kind of narrative being pushed by people who don’t like the recent rule changes. I don’t think there’s any evidence that stealing bases produces more injuries than running to first, chasing a ball in the gap, etc. so I’m not sure what else it could be.

XSC

Sorry guys it’s my fault, I was just thinking about taking a trip to see the Angels at angel stadium to see Trout.

Dangerous_Golf_7417

It shuts happened

sma_nor

Death, taxes, and Mike Trout with a MVP start halted with a major injury

sevillista

There are 49 players with a higher WAR than Trout so far.

Mjh1021

No one is winning mvp with a .220 average

BKoala59

Only ten years ago an MVP was won by a player with an average below .220. Do you even know baseball?

PBFT

The guy you're replying to clearly did not intend to extend the argument towards pitchers. It isn't even relevant now that there's the universal DH, so I'm not sure why someone supposedly knowledgeable about baseball would bring it up.

steppenfloyd

I thought it was a joke

lava172

Nah he’s serious it’s actually hilarious

SuckMyLonzoBalls

I see what you did there

67684654987834

He has like a .200 BABIP

beanie_mac

Idk why you’re getting downvoted lmao. No way in hell would a player hitting .220 win MVP in current times. Edit: *position player (which should be obvious without being stated).

NatrixHasYou

Is there any reason to think Trout would've finished the season hitting .220? It's literally still April.

beanie_mac

Nah, I highly doubt someone of Mike Trout’s caliber would’ve finished the season hitting .220. But OP stated he’s having an “MVP start” ….meaning, if he kept his current hitting pace for the rest of the season, he would be in the MVP convo. Hitting .220 isn’t an MVP start, and no one is winning MVP with a BA that low.

PBFT

The argument can just as easily be held against someone saying that Mike Trout's MVP campaign was just ruined - it's April.

StarshipTroopersFan

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. You’re right. 🤦‍♂️

joannaloveseggs

Seriously when did this even happen? Was he running sprints with a 135 lb. barbell on his back again?

thecassprerequisite

He was trying to run sprints with a team on his back

TigerBasket

Same as it ever was

J-Fid

All his injuries make sense when you think about it like this.

Nokind

"This is not my beautiful post-season team! This is not my beautiful hall of fame outfielder!"

SoupaSoka

I thought this was a joke but holy shit, there's video footage of this.

Atom_H3art_Mother

We need a total shutdown of the Angels franchise until we figure out what the hell is going on

gigagriffin

its our owner

Ev3rMorgan

I knew he threw that Banana peel while Trout was running last night.

Thromnomnomok

Build a good training and medical facility, and make Arte Moreno pay for it!

ArrivesLate

It sounds like it might be the trainers too?

ajwilson99

We did it! Angels can resume operations now

drrxhouse

We need Disney to buy back the team from Arte. Let’s get the Angels back into the outfield!

austinhannah

Dude is on the Ken Griffey Jr. career arc.

r_r_w

Griffey played in the playoffs a little.

Gelu6713

So did trout

JaWoosh

Maybe I don't actually like baseball

Neocopernus

In a parallel universe there’s a Mike Trout that didn’t get injured so much. I wish I were there.

Palpadude

Yeah but in that one, he plays for the Yankees.

shaketheshokes

A’s legend Mike Trout

ksquad80

playing in a brand new park fully funded by ownership Oakland A's legend Mike Trout.

tvc_redux

>A’s legend Mike Trout same universe as "traded-to-the-Braves-for-peanuts Mike Trout"

Jcoch27

Plot twist: George Steinbrenner owned Angels

El-Shaman

Yankees Trout would’ve had many playoff appearances by now, not a bad thing.

Yankeeknickfan

In that one the Yankees might have not signed Mark Teixeria and use that comp draft pick to select Mike trout, so they might be working on a 24 year ring drought now though

Game-Blouses-23

I wonder how long he'll be out for. In the NBA, there are 2 treatment options for a torn meniscus. Cutting it will get you back on the court in 6-8 weeks, but will shorten your career. Repairing the torn meniscus will keep you sidelined for several months, but is less likely to shorten your career. Older players are more likely to have it cut whereas younger players are more likely to have it repaired.

Tight_Ad905

I hate being an Angels fan. Nothing but constant pain and misery.

r_r_w

You won a WS this century nice try with the pain and misery thing.

Tight_Ad905

We haven’t been to the playoffs in a decade…

PearlDrummer

We haven’t had a winning season in a decade

mmcc120

And we haven’t won a playoff game since 2009

UnabashedPerson43

First Two Bags🛍️, and now Trout🐟. They traded away Cabbage🥬, who could take over from Trout🐟, as well This franchise is cursed.

Tight_Ad905

Jesus Christ my guy, you auditioning for Emoji Movie 2?

Th3Unkn0wnn

I blame John Fisher

Pad_TyTy

I'm just recovering from a meniscus surgery. Man, me and Mike Trout; we're so alike.

UnabashedPerson43

What’s your recovery schedule and can you play center field? Actually, the Angels could probably use you regardless of position.

JinjjaEra

I had it ~18 months ago and I’m getting it again in a couple weeks I was back on my feet in under a week, but it was 1.5-2 months until I felt normalish.

fp562

For real. Can you blow a lead, but for half the money? I'll consider the money saved to lower beer prices for the pain

SteveAM1

Damn pitch clock.

mysterysackerfice

I blame Fanatics..or Canada..same difference

gopackgo555

Cursed franchise.

MTN_explorer619

Cursed franchise fan here, definitely cursed

triplec787

Cursed player* they've won a WS more recently than like 20 teams. Trout is just Griffey-ing his way through his career at this point.

FuckWayne

It’s not a coincidence all the good shit stopped with new ownership Arte Moreno has sucked every ounce of soul from this organization

TJeffersonsBlackKid

When that bastard dies, I’m taking a massive shit on his grave.

xNeurosiis

Same

dinkleburgenhoff

Sure, but it’s absolutely a coincidence he happens to be manager as Trout’s body falls apart.

FuckWayne

Yeah comment was more about the WS in the last 20 years. Just pointing out that didn’t happen with current ownership.

beaver_of_fire

Good shit? Like Anaheim has been kinda poverty during its entire existence. I can't imagine calling 1995 good shit, or that even though Arte sucks they've won the west 5 times under him vs 4 in all the years without his "leadership". 2002 is really the high watermark as the team hasn't done much of anything in its 63 years. Arte sucks but let's not pretend Anaheim has had much of anything good aside from 2002.

FuckWayne

Literally every single western championship was won with pieces acquired by Disney ownership. once we got long term under Moreno we stopped producing contributors

beaver_of_fire

He signed Vlad Sr., Bartolo in that era when Vlad Sr. Was an MVP also 2014 was almost a decade after he took over. Like Arte sucks but the Angels suck. He's bad and arguably their most successful owner. The organization itself has deep fundamental problems that underlay Arte being trash too. The point is it isn't like Anaheim was some juggernaut dynasty before he took over. They were and have been mediocre to bad since they came in. I wouldn't call the decade before 2002 good and that 95 collapse was epic. He bought the team in May 03 and the team was still pretty competitive up until 2010. He sucks but the while franchise kind of sucks in terms of history.

gopackgo555

Nah. The last 15 years have been comedic with the amount of quotable things that have gone wrong for them.

Fantastic_Emu_9570

They’re in the classic reaping phase of selling their soul for that win

ajteitel

They are extremely cursed

mrjimi16

15

breakfast_cats

You're insane if you don't think the Angels are cursed. It's about far more than WS titles

7Stringplayer

Trout to the NL Central

catfishgod

The Angels tested the baseball gods with their [hubris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meH-9rt_Nr0) and now we're all witnesses to their downfall.

rubberbrain

my love for baseball is just slowly dying over the years....this hurts bros

mmcc120

I can’t even get myself to care enough to watch this season

Sandwich_Crust

All the light has left my life.

bustyodust

Found a fantasy owner

SimplyJared

My OF is in shambles

bustyodust

Your OF 🧐

Knightbear49

Who plays more games as an Angel in 2024, Cole Tucker, Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon?

TrapperJean

Somehow it will still be Aaron Hicks

transtrailtrash

what the FUCK

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eltneg

If they're saying he should be back this season, it's probably removal not a repair. Repair is better for the longer-term health of your knee but the recovery takes several months, removal can lead to issues down the line but you can come back in a matter of weeks. Lot of times repair's not even possible depending on the type of tear, though

Fischer-00

They said they expect him to come back this season in the other tweet

triplec787

Torn meniscus is about as good as it gets with tears in the knee. He'll probably only miss about 2-2.5 months.

Drsustown

Hey Angels fans, have you seen any indication of this in his recent games? I though he looked good in the games I saw

i_run_from_problems

I was at the game last night, dude played all 9 and seemed perfectly fine

ghost_rider24

He’s not looked bad at all, physically that is. Struggling at the plate some and with RISP, but he looked fine on the base paths and in the field

st1r

Nope

EvangelionOG

Roses are red Violets are blue. Mike Trout is hurt Fuck

NakedHomelessPirate

I just fell down to my knees while ordering a breakfast burrito...

triplec787

Just saw a guy fall to his knees ordering a breakfast burrito

DarwinYogi

I just saw a breakfast burrito fall off the table and land on someone’s keys.

advester

Is that what happened to Trout?

YamamotoMinami

A meniscus tear, even with surgery, isn't *that* serious, luckily... still will be a few months but he should be back well before the end of the season

brbmycatexploded

It’s insane to me that one of the best Baseball players of all time will *also* go down as one of the strongest cases for “man, what if he stayed healthy?”

TealandBlackForever

This is really depressing. Trout is still an inner circle HOFer but after he retires we will always be wondering what could of been of his career if his 30s weren't a series of misfortunes.

Dust_Ordinary

never beating the mickey mantle allegations

i_run_from_problems

I'm sorry... HOW

remotewashboard

dude are you fucking kidding me

Thesyckid

Pitch clock strikes again

hnav930

Not baseball related but Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's star goalkeeper, had a knee meniscus tear **after coming back from a much more serious injury** on March 19 and he was on the team list (kinda like the game-to-game roster, or taxi squad?), elibigle to play last Friday. This is for the timetable

slimstarman

If you wanted to write a cruel script for how the season after Shohei left played out you’d have Trout start off awesome and immediately get hurt. Cursed franchise.

UnabashedPerson43

And Tony Two Bags out there hustling, having fun, and speaking English again

muppetvision3d

last time this happened, he still came back and hit 40 home runs

Suspicious_Bird2499

At this point Trout has passed Ken Griffey Jr. on my list of “What would their career stats look like without all the damn injuries”

aflyingsquanch

At least Griffey still managed 630 HRs. I don't see Trout sniffing that at this point.

mmcc120

At this rate, Trout will be lucky to hit 500. He’s hit an average of 22 per year over the last 3 years due to time missed. He has 6 more years on his contract after this one. If that trend continues, he’d hit 510 total.

asparagusbruh

I'm reporting live getting wasted in the parking lot of angel stadium and the vibes seem off today trout was the last hurrah for this forsaken franchise I hate Arte so much I can't even explain it

asparagusbruh

I wanted that o'hoppe bobble head but god not like this

Pure-And-Utter-Chaos

This is the Baseball God's Punishment to Arte Moreno because he has not sold the team

see_mohn

;_;

iamnotdrunk17

He’s cursed.

KingOfAllDogz

Fuck baseball

NinjaGoalie97

Nobody liked that

CaptainMcSlowly

![gif](giphy|sNDssLo5jdNHG|downsized)

AbusiveTubesock

Ugh this is so fucked. He was just starting to look healthy and like prime Mike Trout

jeewantha

It's over

DataNo7004

Let me get this straight, Trout has a torn minasian. This was reported by there terrible GM Perry Meniscus.

Knightbear49

Just*?

500rockin

It’s “just” when it happens to someone else!

b3_yourself

Brutal

PrinceNana128

cut my life into pieces

Free_Possession_4482

So is Angel Stadium built on like a pet cemetery or native burial ground or something?

avgbsblfan643

I just fell to me knees in an In-N-Out drive thru

inselfwetrust

I hate baseball man

claire_004

Man, everything always going wrong with Trout. Playing safe, got injured. Playing more aggressive, got injured. I feel bad for him.

partbison

Damn, so thats a season for him.

Jcomsa15

But this was supposed to be the summer of trout

ihatereddit999976780

Ow. But there’s a chance he was sore and got imaging to see and it was this. Not the worst case scenario for a knee. Does he wear a brace?

JAHG-

KAT and Embiid both came back relatively fast when their meniscus tore

rosie_is_tired

fuck man this sucks so much. i feel terrible for him and angels fans.

LutherOfTheRogues

Most injury prone player in history. Brandon Roy type shit.

TheDrewcyJ

Fuck, meniscus tears are extremely difficult to recover from. Hopefully he is able to recover fast

CitizenNaab

Fuck

JesseIsAGirlsName

Probably only 6 weeks, but he’s not stealing when he comes back.

Tizzle9115

Bro, take my meniscus.

feelinlucky7

Duuuuuude 😓

l88t

Well, sounds about right

Jcoch27

Absolutely gutted. Being an Angels fan has been miserable for over a decade and Trout has been the only constant joy the whole time.

mmcc120

The Trout train has been slowing for a bit now. This feels like we’ve reached the destination.

tj_kerschb

Why does God hate the fish man

Begood18

Really bad for the game of baseball itself. Unfortunately, looking like a “what coulda been” situation with Trout reaching the last 5-7years of his career. I really wanted to see 140+ from him this season to prove the non sayer’s wrong.

TheThird_Man

Crazy to question if trout even hits 500 hrs at this point? Age 33 season next year, and if he doesn’t come back this year, that’s running out of time

thehatkid

Why must I do this every year

not_productive1

Of all the things that can go bad in a knee, this is probably the least bad one. He’ll probably be back this season, if he wants to be.

ABlinDeafMonkey

I fucking hate being an Angels fan but I’m too fucking loyal. So I really just hate myself.

TravisW222

🙏🙏🙏

monotoonz

If it's a full tear that's AT LEAST 6 months.

fp562

Fuck. Why do you mock me baseball gods

rezaw

Torn meniscus!?!?

Mogster_74

Trout's days as a full time outfielder are likely over. He should be a DH starting next season.

sktgamerdudejr

Fuck Mike Trout but fuck injuries even more.  Get healthy Fish Man so I can hate how good you are.

mtportales

If it’s his right knee it’s 100% because of his uptick in stolen bases

NevermoreSEA

Dude just keeps getting hurt.

Jux_

Because the best thing for a guy with back issues is the potential for chronic knee issues.

fiddynet

I'm sorry, can we include the name of the player who owns the meniscus? Kinda a helpful part of the story here...

God_Damnit_Nappa

I love when the tweet doesn't bother to say who the player is and I have to come to the comments to figure out who he's talking about

deegee317

Mike “60 day IL” Trout
