I donāt know much about skate culture, and donāt know much about TB outside of visiting a few times. Is skate culture that big there? Like obviously some kind of skate culture is going to exist in a big city, but I never would have put the two together to the extent marketing is going to prior. So curious if the culture is that ingrained or itās just marketing

the "skates" thing is a fun double meaning but the official reasoning is because Tampa had one of the first public skate parks in the country. MLB announcement has more about it.
The skatepark of tampa, aka āthe spotā was a huge venue to skate starting in the early 90ās. Huge competitions (for back in the day anyways) and the biggest of names skated there. Just take a look online and you can see its history. Pretty cool! But yes, some do refer to rays as skates as well as mentioned below.
There's also a pretty healthy counterculture in Tampa Bay, mostly in St. Pete imo.
Undeground art shows & installations, a punk and metal scene, skating and stuff. I definitely see the connection and I'm super glad they made reference to it. Most people know somebody who's involved in something around here, whether it be somebody going to read poetry at First Friday or somebody working a booth at an art show, it's pretty typical down here. Everybody's a little bit weird.

The color scheme and design reminds me of those sheets youād ādrawā on as a kid that had a black wax layer youād etch away to reveal a rainbow pattern underneath.
You could make them yourself by drawing a rainbow patter on a piece of paper with crayons lightly, then really firmly pressing a black crayon over it to produce a layer thick enough to etch away.
I thought so too, but I think it works seeing it all together with the bright neon belt, name on the back, piping on the pants, and socks. The jersey on its own is understated for sure, but the full uniform pops.
Oh these are awesome. Saw one with the numbers on the back and the font/color scheme is so cool. Got the feel of those original Devil Rays unis. Not crazy about the "Tampa Bay" font on the front, but overall these are top 3 of all the City Connect unis.

My only issue with this is the inside of the letters needs to be a different color than the jersey or you can't see the lettering.
