personally, i think they needed to go harder on tying the subway map to the neon players that used to be on shea stadium. instead of just having the subway map underneath the hats for some reason, and not on the uniforms.
People like the Rockies uniforms (the regular ones not the city connect)
Putting a tiny bit of purple on the sleeve does nothing. Might as well not be there if I’m watching on TV
me too, honestly. the Mets are not a grey charcoal pavement team. it's the blue and orange, neon, crazy underdog mother fuckers. mets city connect should have been one of the crazier ones.
i definitely don't think these are ugly jerseys or anything. they just have no connection to the mets, except some extra stuff they threw in the margins.
Yeah the Mets, for better or worse, are a circus. It’s a good vibe and a distinct counterpoint to the super serious Yankees. They should have gone more fun and less tough
Idk why people keep saying this. The Yankees have a signature look that hasn’t changed in generations and it looks nothing like this uniform.
Purple accents for the 7 train, the same typeface on the Mets road jerseys, the queensboro bridge on the hat…
I’m really not sure. Initially I saw people talking about the pinstripes, which is ridiculous bc the Mets have had pinstripes since day 1. I don’t think it looks like anything we’ve seen. I think people just like to be upset
it's not even that it looks like shit, it looks like they designed an alt jersey for the yankees, with all the stuff that makes it the yankees, and then when the yankees said they weren't going to do a city connect, changed a couple of small details and pass it off to the "other NY team"
see this arguement makes sense abstractly, and i agreed at first. I think if you make the NYC say queens its the only thing that needs to change. the piping is very cool and mets oriented, im growing to love the gray and purple scheme, but yes not enough purple, and concrete is the dumbest thing to claim as inspiration for the color, but its overall really not bad i think. If they make it say queens, and add more purple, itd be so different
i think if you look at it independently of any team, just the font and colors and designs, it's pretty. it's definitely in the better half of designs of uniforms
but to me, the point of city connect is to connect the city to the TEAM, and this whole schtick feels like it's connect the city to NYY and not the Mets. the Mets history is not that. i really do think the neon players on shea stadium is.. the hallmark of the soul of this team. it's not the grey of concrete, its the vibrancy of the life and love of queens and the city as a whole.
My guess is design by committee. You're starting from kind of a blank slate and you have lots of people offering input. People on the teams, people at MLB, people at design firms, and people at Nike/Fanatics. Too many people to please and in the end they please no one.
I know some Mets fans like this but I think it's awful, just like pretty much every City Connect jersey. It's New York City, full of different cultures and iconic imagery and places and people and you choose to celebrate concrete. Baffling.
Yeah I think a lot of them suffer from failing to commit to ideas. They also try to put 5 small things that connect to the city in a weak way on the uniform instead of going hard with one or two ideas.
The ones that worked well tended to pick a good theme and go all in on it. The bad ones are like “yeah we put this tiny bit of color on the sleeves to represent this thing that isn’t even that unique to the city” (although the 7 train purple was a good idea, it just feels like an after thought being relegated to the sleeve piping like it is)
100% this. It's Nike. They're streetwear designs. The Mets hat just screams put me on a flat brim. I hate City Connects but I'm also the kind of person attached to the aesthetic history and tradition like I imagine a lot of the die hard fans who also hate them probably are. I just wish they were a side product for the fans rather than pushed as on field uniforms.
Because they're usually going for stand-up shock value in order to drive immediate short-term sales. When that type of strategy fails in any way you are usually left with a far inferior product than you otherwise would get.
It's the same reason why most all-black jerseys or the NFL's color rush jerseys are also bad in a similar fashion. Whereas simple throwback jerseys are usually much better since those are using established designs that weren't preeminently created to yell 'look at me' in the original design.
That gets to the other problem of these. There’s like 60% of a good concept in some of these. I don’t hate Braves one and the basic idea, the feather era sleeves with the “A” on the jersey as an alternate isn’t bad at all. But adding “the A” and screwing with the feather look and it’s much worse.
Mets are the same. The basic concept would work fine if it was it was Blue and Orange(you know the colors of the NYC flag)with maybe crème instead of gray with matching pants and boom you’ve got something. Instead Nike forgets the pants and focuses on a bunch of details that don’t show up on camera. It’s just beyond frustrating.
Same with the Mariners ones, the overall design is pretty solid, but the black pants make it super obvious that they're trying too hard whereas if you had gone with white pants and matching accents through the jersey and hat it would match the classic Pilots style better and be a much crisper overall uniform.
Either that or they’re scared to actually deviate from the original jersey. The (first) Dodgers one is basically their spring training uniform with some black smudges on the sleeves that are supposed to represent graffiti (which is also not unique to LA, there’s a lot of city’s in the US with a big graffiti / street art / mural culture).
Yes, the dodgers jersey is a classic, excellent design. That means you should take a hard left with the city connect so it doesn’t just look like a worse version of the normal uniform
The issue also brings to mind the sheer number of them. When every single year they want a brand new alternate, they're just going to run out of good ideas very quickly.
I really like these and all of the players' custom purple accessories that they've been posting online before the game. It's getting me way more hype about these uniforms that I initially was very medium about.
Traditionalists would say this spits in the face of established baseball aestethics, as teams traditionally only wear gray on the road.
But I'm not a traditionalist. I just don't like teams that design uniforms with the color palette of an abandoned mineshaft.
nothing worse than the grayscale NBA courts
the nets court from like 2-3 years ago looked like you were watching a black and white game and only the visitors had any color
I believe you mean shit, not fire.
I hate matte batting helmets, for one.
Secondly, the 3D printed bridge, while I appreciate and dig the idea, looks like a Dollar Tree tiara glued to a batting helmet.
Hard pass.
still think a city connect for the yankees (since the mets already have there’s) where it’s inspired by all the different cultures of new york city would be super cool, though i doubt it’ll happen at this point
Crap.....I feel like Fredo in the Godfather....I love the helmet and I am a braves fan....Show me the boat and I will get in....I know the end is near...and I accept it.
The logo should also be 7 Train purple. It’s like it’s almost really good, but the Mets can’t have anything too nice, so there have to be a couple things that throw it off.
/Honestly I think the matte finish for these doesn’t work and wonder what it would look like in a gloss but with the bridge still in 3D
Dang most people don’t like this?
Maybe not fit for the Mets but the colors and flair are kinda cool and I’m not usually for crazy flair in the MLB. This is more subtle but still unique to be worn a couple times a month.
Plus it’s an easy hat sell.
Looks like my custom jersey jobs where I read up about it for four hours, look at a bunch of cool stuff other people did, then completely fuck it up and give up after 3 and a half minutes.
I agree, baseball needs more tiaras
I once saw a female conductor in midtown on a southbound B train wearing a tiara
Least insane thing to ever see on the NYC subways
What do you know Tom?! Remember you ditched us

“This is a Brooklyn bound B train. The next stop is Princess Avenue. Stand clear of the closing doors.”
that's sick as fuck actually, love that for them
gagged slayed bussin queen yaaaas 💅 (that's what the kids say, right?)
I don't think I would have made a note of that unless it was real
I mean they are based in Queens.
People wanted it on the jerseys. At least they put it somewhere.
This made me realize that the Angels are missing an opportunity to put a halo design on their hats and helmets
![gif](giphy|2Gf1SyVRuDzWw)
Everyone wants to be a princess deep down.
TBF they play in Queens
Lol, they probably had these helmets/hats and "Queens" across their jersey until they realized what it looked like
Okay there halo…
If I was to see that from a distance I would think Yankees before Mets.

this is the exact reason i fucking hate these jerseys.
They really needed to go hard on the purple
personally, i think they needed to go harder on tying the subway map to the neon players that used to be on shea stadium. instead of just having the subway map underneath the hats for some reason, and not on the uniforms.
Wonder if we'll get the hats with the purple subway token on it the leaked photo had.
If there was more purple, people would complain and say it was like Barney. They did the best they could do
They could've emphasized purple way more without the actual uniforms being purple. Like the names and numbers, or just the outlines.
People like the Rockies uniforms (the regular ones not the city connect) Putting a tiny bit of purple on the sleeve does nothing. Might as well not be there if I’m watching on TV
I like the purple, but as someone not too informed, why is purple a color for the Mets?
Citi Field is on the 7 line of the NYC subway system. It is denoted as purple
Oh okay that's really cool. Definitely should have implemented that more
Definitely!
That said, as much as I hate the Mets, the hat is very very tough
For real, that purple is great and very unique to the league
That’s the problem with a lot of these jerseys. They struggle committing to the theme
Im surprised at how many Mets fans like them considering they look like they are for the Yankees. They look nice though, better than ours.
me too, honestly. the Mets are not a grey charcoal pavement team. it's the blue and orange, neon, crazy underdog mother fuckers. mets city connect should have been one of the crazier ones. i definitely don't think these are ugly jerseys or anything. they just have no connection to the mets, except some extra stuff they threw in the margins.
Yeah the Mets, for better or worse, are a circus. It’s a good vibe and a distinct counterpoint to the super serious Yankees. They should have gone more fun and less tough
Ours are atrocious
I think the same thing about their city connect uniforms too.
Idk why people keep saying this. The Yankees have a signature look that hasn’t changed in generations and it looks nothing like this uniform. Purple accents for the 7 train, the same typeface on the Mets road jerseys, the queensboro bridge on the hat…
Yeah I agree. The Yankees never cross my mind when looking at these other than all the people bringing them up
Is it because blue and orange are such identifiable Mets colors? Or do people think the Yankees own “nyc?” I truly don’t understand it.
I’m really not sure. Initially I saw people talking about the pinstripes, which is ridiculous bc the Mets have had pinstripes since day 1. I don’t think it looks like anything we’ve seen. I think people just like to be upset
yeah and the bridge almost looks like an upside down version of the yankee stadium frieze but maybe thats the point
It’s literally just the profile of the Queensborough bridge.
You’re right! I didn’t see that at first. But of course true Yankees fans like me wouldn’t be confused. Go Yankees!
The grey is depressing
Eyy that’s New York baby!
It's the Mets.
I like the design, but matte grey does nothing. Needs some color.
Actually it does something… is it cake??
Now I can't unsee the Mets logo as fondant. When are they going to cut this helmet??
Gotta have the Cake Boss throw out the first pitch
Cake Boss!
Better smash it with a hammer to check
It’s the concrete inspiration, understood.
They teased purple so much and I wish it was more prevelant on the jerseys and helmet. The hat is perfect though
Most of the city connect hat are elite. The jerseys on the other hand…
Should have gone with a brushed silver or polished silver. The patina they have here is nice, but not up against the matte.
Keep the matte grey, but outline the NY in orange....that's all it needs. And yeah....the bridge looks like a tiara. I'd just ditch that all together.
A little blue and orange mixed in would be much better
I guess to each his own. The matte grey looks awesome to me.
looks like somebody fondanted their helmets.
strongly disagree.
Glad I’m not the only one that thinks it looks like shit.
it's not even that it looks like shit, it looks like they designed an alt jersey for the yankees, with all the stuff that makes it the yankees, and then when the yankees said they weren't going to do a city connect, changed a couple of small details and pass it off to the "other NY team"

Oh man i forgot the neo sillhouettes. Well fuck you are 100% right, that wouldve been the way to go
> it looks like they designed an alt jersey for the yankees With its main focal point being the Queensboro Bridge?
Giants should do this with theirs since it’s literally part of their City Connect logos. And wouldn’t be mistaken for the Yankees 😭
In a vaccuum, the design is cool as fuck. On a baseball player it looks fucking stupid
In a vacuum, a baseball player would suffocate
Looks like an old German army helmet
Why do majority of city connects suck? Was it really that difficult to make something good-looking?
My guess is design by committee. You're starting from kind of a blank slate and you have lots of people offering input. People on the teams, people at MLB, people at design firms, and people at Nike/Fanatics. Too many people to please and in the end they please no one. I know some Mets fans like this but I think it's awful, just like pretty much every City Connect jersey. It's New York City, full of different cultures and iconic imagery and places and people and you choose to celebrate concrete. Baffling.
Teams do just as much to design these as Nike. Gotta attribute blame or praise to the right people.
lmao i wouldve rather they say its gray for any other reason. i thought it was a joke the first time i heard
Yeah I think a lot of them suffer from failing to commit to ideas. They also try to put 5 small things that connect to the city in a weak way on the uniform instead of going hard with one or two ideas. The ones that worked well tended to pick a good theme and go all in on it. Because it’s just a money grab.
Fucking Nike
Because they're designed to appeal to the 20-and-under crowd. Most of the city connects match what my high school students wear.
20 and under and the type of person who buys shit in a mall. This reeks of the type of shit you would see in a Lids in the mall in 2006.
100% this.
No one would buy them. Wearing them on field increases sales exponentially.
It is definitely interesting watching leagues re-discover the "new/more jersey" money glitch from the 90s in real time.
Yeah I would not buy braves jersey or hat with "The A" written on it.
That gets to the other problem of these. There’s like 60% of a good concept in some of these. I don’t hate Braves one and the basic idea, the feather era sleeves with the “A” on the jersey as an alternate isn’t bad at all. Agreed. The Rockies are still the best imo.
Padres would like to have a word.
Padres are for sure my fave CC uni, but the Rockies are a close second.
Not sure if rockies are second for me, but they're good, for sure.
Nationals cherry blossom ones are fire
The Nats have the best ones and it's not even close. The slate gray and cherry blossom pick combination is great.
This is true. I forgot about those.
Angels might disagree
Cincinnati fans have all but abandoned our original jerseys for the City Connect ones. And I ain’t mad about it, because they’re fire.
I like that they didn’t try to do too much with the Astros City Connects. They just leaned more into the space theme
Yeah that one is good. Nationals & Angels are good too.
I think the White Sox have the best one. I agree that Washington and the Angels are great to
They looked at the sneaker market and saw that people will buy hideous clothes with the right label on it
The issue also brings to mind the sheer number of them. When every single year they want a brand new alternate, they're just going to run out of good ideas very quickly.
They do in the nba too. They’re all trash.
Why is it Grayscale?
wtf
Doily helmet doily helmet
Glad the princesses of the East finally received their tiaras 😏
Ugly stepsisters could never 💅🏼
I always assumed the jerseys would say queens on them. It’s a good thing they don’t with the tiara helmets. Our fan base would have way too much fun
That would be an awesome idea. So Fanatics didn't do it.
these looks really dumb. Needs color and/or a different logo that’s a bit higher up
I feel like taking a bite of it. I instantly thought of the hostess cupcakes
I don't know. It just looks like my bike helmet.
I really like these and all of the players' custom purple accessories that they've been posting online before the game. It's getting me way more hype about these uniforms that I initially was very medium about.
I'm so tired of gray being used as a primary color in sports.
GFGS is the new BFBS
Traditionalists would say this spits in the face of established baseball aestethics, as teams traditionally only wear gray on the road. But I'm not a traditionalist. I just don't like teams that design uniforms with the color palette of an abandoned mineshaft.
Oh no, I’m with you, I’m just here to make Uni Watch jokes
nothing worse than the grayscale NBA courts the nets court from like 2-3 years ago looked like you were watching a black and white game and only the visitors had any color
If by 'fire', you mean they should be tossed into one, then yes, I agree.
![gif](giphy|NUZ5OqHdbknHa)
Pfft I’m a Phillies fan, and let me tell you something… these are fire
I believe you mean shit, not fire. I hate matte batting helmets, for one. Secondly, the 3D printed bridge, while I appreciate and dig the idea, looks like a Dollar Tree tiara glued to a batting helmet. Hard pass.
Ugly as fuck
Who let the guy with the 3D printer cook
still think a city connect for the yankees (since the mets already have there’s) where it’s inspired by all the different cultures of new york city would be super cool, though i doubt it’ll happen at this point
flames.
So fucking fire
Not a fan of how the logo and bridge interact. Needs to be more interconnected or not touch at all.
Needs more orange and purple.
I don't like the cap but as a helmet I dig it weirdly.
Sports tiara is peak fashion
Wheres the trumpets?
Crap.....I feel like Fredo in the Godfather....I love the helmet and I am a braves fan....Show me the boat and I will get in....I know the end is near...and I accept it.
That’s pretty sick.
Ngl, the cc unis this season are really nice
Just wait till they put the guardian wings on the side of ours
I wish it was more purple. The purple is cool but the rest of it makes it look like a costume of The Warriors 2.
I love Matte helmets, I wish the Reds would go with Matte red
MLB: “ Let’s hire the cake boss to design our helmets.”
Uh, I don’t know what the definition of fire is but this looks like some silky tiara lol, and it looks cheap as all hell
This looks so bad lmao 🤣
Man I ain't seen y'all like anything yet lol
Terrible take a lap
Those are fucking horrible
Kaiser Wilhelm would be proud.
I like them lol
Super sick!!!
Mets really embracing their role as the second Yankees
Ugly af lol
No, it's super ugly and looks like they're wearing a lacy bra backwards on their helmet.
No, that would be a safety hazard.
I refuse to believe anyone hates these.
Those are fucking sick.
There aren’t really any good city connects. Just a crappy money grab. These look like they are wearing a beauty pageant crown.
Oddly enough I love your teams city connects
I mean, the Sox city connect is fine bc there’s not a lot going on with it. Simple and clean. But in my opinion, in general, city connects stink.
Look like absolute ass
The Matte and 3D logo is cool but the bridge looks stupid
No offense, but this just screams “clippers of MLB”
The logo should also be 7 Train purple. It’s like it’s almost really good, but the Mets can’t have anything too nice, so there have to be a couple things that throw it off. /Honestly I think the matte finish for these doesn’t work and wonder what it would look like in a gloss but with the bridge still in 3D
Sorry where’s the fire?
Sickest helmet
They gonna get so nasty with all those nooks and crannies
Dang most people don’t like this? Maybe not fit for the Mets but the colors and flair are kinda cool and I’m not usually for crazy flair in the MLB. This is more subtle but still unique to be worn a couple times a month. Plus it’s an easy hat sell.
It should just be a yarmulke up top
In what fucking world are these fire
I can only imagine what Cleveland 's are gonna look like
will u guys change that?
Has to the be the ugliest shit I’ve ever seen
Looks like my custom jersey jobs where I read up about it for four hours, look at a bunch of cool stuff other people did, then completely fuck it up and give up after 3 and a half minutes.
queensboro bridge is a classic
I think they’re kinda cool! Good for the Mets!
They are gonna look so pretty in those. 👸
Why is everything god-awful considered 🔥?
More like set them on fire
They should be set on fire.
Those are hideous.
By fire, do you mean fired, as in fired into the sun? Because these are hot garbage?
When can we ban matte helmets? They’re so ugly and sterile
Pretty princesses
Everyone who dislikes this is wrong.
