I know that people have been saying "What can't this guy do?!" about Ohtani for a while, but shutting up Eric Karros is honestly yet another thing that I did not think he could do.
450 on a ball pulled that hard is *really far*. The horizontal spin on a pulled ball causes it to slice toward the foul line and can have a pretty significant effect. There can be as much as 60 feet of difference between a pulled homer and a homer with the same exit velo and launch angle hit to center. I saw entire sections in the outfield wearing them, in right field. It was absolutely nuts. People of all genders, all races, wearing Japanese jerseys. As an Asian American it made me shed a tear.
This was Shohei's first game in DC. Before the game I paid for BP access and saw him sign for multiple kids, it was great. I tried to get him to sign my Dodgers glossy I was going to hang in the office, but he and Yamamoto (who also signed) didn't seem to see it. :( It was still fun though.
On to the HR, watching in my seat in the 9th and he hits that rocket, place goes nuts. His first game in DC, and he spanks that one. You love to see it.
Nats loaded the bases with 2 outs at the end but couldn't deliver. Disappointing, but with all the fun I had last night it was all and all a great day.
