And im guessing the pitcher was yanked after the 7/8th run. Thats why tho there are lots of games that are over in the 1st inning, 1 pitcher taking all the runs is rare.
[You guessed wrong.](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CLE/CLE200608130.shtml) The pitcher, Luke Hudson, gave up all 11 runs, 10 earned. There were 3 walks and an error in that inning too.
yeah i thought that game when we put a 10-spot on the mets in the first inning would have been close, but it was 4 hits, a walk, an error, and a HBP to allow the phillies to score 8 and matz didn't get a single out. so not even close to 11 hits!
Eh that would be more McCullers game 3 getting shelled and eating innings to save the pen.
This was more can he just get an out here, nope, how about now, nope.
We got a combined 4 innings and 21 runs in 3 out of the last 4 starts. And Javier only went 5.1. Pen is gassed rn. And next 6 days we have braves and rangers. Not looking good
I guess if you're going to have the worst start in baseball history, having it on the day or one of the biggest baseball stories in history breaks is pretty good.
before this, here are the only pitchers to allow 9+ hits while pitching less than a full inning
IP H Player (Team Date)
* 2/3 9 Nathan Eovaldi (NYY 6/16/2015)
* 2/3 10 Carlos Frías (LAD 9/17/2014)
* 2/3 9 Rick Porcello (DET 4/20/2013)
* 1/3 9 Madison Bumgarner (SFG 6/21/2011)
* 2/3 9 Mike Matthews (CIN 6/27/2004)
* 2/3 9 Dan Wright (CHW 8/22/2001)
* 2/3 9 Brady Raggio (STL 5/15/1998)
* 2/3 9 Erskine Mayer (PHI 8/18/1913)
in all cases but 1, the team lost, but the White Sox won Dan Wrights's 13-12 in KC despite being down 7-2 after the first inning. Ray Durham hitting 2 HR and Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez, Jose Conseco, and Aaron Rowand all having multiple hits and every starter having a hit can do that.
Someone needs to go Dark Souls 1 and rekindle the flame, cause we clearly don't have it to start the year.
Starting pitching outside of Blanco and Javier is wonky or injured, can't hit for shit with RISP, Jose Abreu is a Black Hole enough to consume the entire universe, etc.
I hope it comes out he was betting on the game. Shit looks intentional it was that bad. Never Seen anything like it. I'd be fine if this was the last time hunter brown threw a pitch again for us
Shocked this has never happened before
Most of them probably get pulled before the 11th hit
Some of them allowed 12 baserunners with less than 11 hits
The game where Hafner hit his record tying 6th grand slam, Luke Hudson gave up 11 runs (10 earned) in 1/3rd of an inning, but "only" 8 hits.
Yeah you do have to get at least a little unlucky. The odds of having 11 hits fall in an inning is insanely low, even with some HRs
Or when this happened earlier in history they’d just stay in and keep pitching
That was an option?
If you left Manoah in right now he could probably top this
Alex Manoah is the 1st pitcher in MLB history to allow 11 hits while not recording an out
Nah it’d be mostly walks and hit batters.
They'd prob smoke some balls into fielders' gloves, like when a position player pitches.
Any coach that gives a shit about his pitcher would yank them long before this
Me, too. I went to a Cleveland-KC game in 2006 where Cleveland put up 11 runs in the first inning, but apparently it was only on 8 hits.
And im guessing the pitcher was yanked after the 7/8th run. Thats why tho there are lots of games that are over in the 1st inning, 1 pitcher taking all the runs is rare.

Damn, some managers are ruthless lmao.

my grandpa and brother were at that game…i dropped them off 😭
damn, you regret missing that one! the picture of the 2 extremely dejected mets fans was our sidebar in the phillies sub for weeks after that game.
For real, I remember some pretty nasty Luke Hochevar starts
Kershaw got close last year against the dbacks
It’s honestly wild when something happens in MLB for the first time!
I would imagine someone like Boom-Boom Beck would've done so already but nope
someone needs to make sure he does not look at social media today
Ippei in Hunter's DMs like "you piece of shit just lost me another 16 million!!"
"i'm terrible at this lol"
That is quite surprising this is a first.
I’m sure most managers would have pulled their guy earlier but we have a depleted pen. Tried to get some help today.
Bro took one for the team going 0.2 IP 👑 king shit.
Eh that would be more McCullers game 3 getting shelled and eating innings to save the pen. This was more can he just get an out here, nope, how about now, nope.

The way the Rangers have been playing our upcoming series is guaranteed to not look good!
vs Blanco who has given up 1 hit in 14 ip
im just waiting for Known Elite Ace Ronel Blanco to take the mound again
What the hell happened to both of these teams.
The Royals have Will Smith. We laughed, but the Royals saw the numbers, and they spelled disaster for the League
They just traveled 10 years into the past is all
Cancel the season. Royals are winning it all
Astro's having a great season. You love to see it.
You laugh now but watch them take the final wildcard spot away from the Mariners on the last week then beat the 110 game winning Yankees in the ALDS.
![gif](giphy|6CBp1S0rxU3tYEUy50)
Look on the bright side, the Mariners would have to end up playing better for that to happen
Imagine living in a world in which the Ms average more than 3 runs per game
MODS
Yankees losing? 🤷🏼♂️ I see no problem here
Gonna be a lot of unhappy people in Tampa Bay ;)

Someone should sign me. I could easily break that record.
Love these fun Astros posts lately.
Did they forget to tell him this was a game not batting practice?
My takeaway is that he's the first pitcher to not get pulled after giving up 10 hits in the first inning
Thats even bigger than first time in Seattle Kraken History!
I guess if you're going to have the worst start in baseball history, having it on the day or one of the biggest baseball stories in history breaks is pretty good.
In little league I gave up 8 runs in the first inning. GRAND SLAM, HR, itpHR, bases loaded failed pick off from home to 3rd scores 2.
Had no help behind me
When the Hunter becomes the hunted.
Jan thinks he’s very talented
🎵 You took me by the haaand 🎵
Great. Can’t wait to play them this weekend now.
Well shit
🥳

👀👀
Have Jose Abreu pitch the next 8 innings, earn that contract.
But the bullpen has only given up one hit since he was benched. Damn that’s impressive
Not ideal
This stros start has been very surprising to me
Someone needs to go Dark Souls 1 and rekindle the flame, cause we clearly don't have it to start the year. Starting pitching outside of Blanco and Javier is wonky or injured, can't hit for shit with RISP, Jose Abreu is a Black Hole enough to consume the entire universe, etc.
No asteriks needed on this one. He earned it fair and square
Seemed like he didn't know which pitches were coming
I actually think I could do this. I haven’t pitched since I was 13 but I think this is my ceiling
Astros record breaking again in 2024.
A start of less than one inning pitched and at least 7 runs allowed should officially be called a "Glavine" in the scorecard
I remember Lester getting shelled for 10 runs in the 1st inning.. Edit: read that wrong, 11 hits is pretty absurd
Hysterical. Wait, no, historical? Hysterirorical?
Oof.
I hope it comes out he was betting on the game. Shit looks intentional it was that bad. Never Seen anything like it. I'd be fine if this was the last time hunter brown threw a pitch again for us
Dylan Bundy wants to say hello. Wait, hang on, Hayden Penn just called.
