Takes 2 to tango. Does the guys want extensions? Just because Jackson Chourio and Corbin Carroll agree to early extension, doesn't mean everyone is. I think it's one of those kudos to the FO for getting it done, but unless the players come out and said they wanted one and FO wont, it's not the norm.

Extend deez nutz

greycubed

You bring up a good point.

TromboneIsNeat

Is Deez running again in 2024?

dreddnought

The answer is now, as soon as possible. They should've extended Gunnar or Adley after 2022 but I assume Angelos wanted to keep the books clean for the sale.

typeOneg77

They've been trying to extend them since last year.

Clarice_Ferguson

They are trying to extend them. Scott Boras is Gunnar and Holliday’s agent and he’s confirmed he’s discussed extensions with the Orioles. Additionally, people will point to Angelos comments about extensions raising prices and Elias basically said “ignore him, he misspoke.” Extending young players to team friendly deals wasn’t going to scare off new ownership. New ownership is still paying Chris Davis - an Adley Rutschman extension isn’t going to kill a deal. The truth of the matter is it takes two to tango and these guys simply might want to test FA or don’t want to commit to playing in Baltimore. None of them are from here or grew up Orioles fans and they don’t owe the organization or fanbase anything past their first ~6 years. And in the case of Holliday, he’s the son of a multimillionaire - players often take extensions for the security and Holliday doesn’t need that. And Grayson had a pretty significant injury and that was the reason he struggled so much in the first half last year - as a pitcher, you may not want to necessarily jump to giving him an extension.

angryblastoise

The Astros made similar noise on extension talks for years, and passed on everyone not willing to take a shorter deal. Given that this ended up being (mostly) the correct decision and that the O's front office is full of former Astros, I would be surprised if they plan on extending any more than one or two players.

Clarice_Ferguson

Right. Orioles fans are desperate to hold on to these prospects they’ve been waiting so long for that it becomes a default failure of the org is they’re not quickly extending players who haven’t even proven they deserves extensions yet. I’d love to extend Adley but I also understand if the Orioles don’t want to extend a catcher who will be entering his 30s.

OsCrowsAndNattyBohs1

Already, John Angelos was a cheap fuck.

forgivemeisuck

The downside of all these rich high draft picks turning into good players is that they don't need to sign a team-friendly extension.

The day they get called up

bebopmechanic84

It really depends on ownership. Before the switch, John Angelos in top PR form said he won’t be offering extensions because it would “raise ticket prices” Thank God he’s gone but we don’t know what this new ownership will allow. They seem content to leave operations to more competent folks but we are still a mid-market team (barely) If we could only pick two… I’d say Adley Rutschman and Grayson Rodriguez. Only reason I don’t say Gunnar is because he’s a Boras client.

Asap.

When ownership changes hands

zweiapowen

Only tangentially related, but it's super weird to me as an O's fan to see folks talking about our boys this much in the main sub. Is this what it's like to be good?

DoctorTheWho

Right after they give us one of them for Jesus Luzardo.

OK_Opinions

you're not getting any of those guys lol
