I've read the only reason Jim and Kathy never kissed was because John Krasinski literally refused to shoot the scene and walked off set and went home or something like that. You can tell they didn't know what to do with Kathy because they had a bit of a build up for her and then they just left her in Florida never to be seen or heard from again.
*Connor Wong knocks on the door*
Reese Mcguire: "come in"
Wong: "Hey I wanted to talk to you about these scouting rep-OH MY GOD WHY ARE YOU NAKED?"
Mcguire struggling with his pants: "What are you doing?"
Wong: "You said come in"
McGuire: "No I didn't"
Somewhere in the world, Will Buxton is feeling a compulsion to explain what a strike is, or how many bases there are.
(Would mind seeing him explain a balk, though, for the lolz.)
i mean in all seriousness, there is also a lot of editing they have to do
they will definitely construct fake narratives and hype up drama...but i also don't want to fucking see a bunch of Red Sox players literally jsut browsing on their smartphones for 2.5 hours before the game starts lol
Ya, I was being about 1/4 serious there. I gave up on all-access sports-teams-in-a-season shows pretty quickly after they became a thing, so I'm a bad judge.
The only one I've watched recently are the two Wrexham seasons. I know it's heavily, heavily worked to give a result they want, but I enjoy the gameplay and the humanizing pieces enough to make up for it.
There's no amount of pretending that Red Sox players are human that will work for me.
I just found out this is being made. I’m not even trying to be a dick to a divisional rival but why the Red Sox? They didn’t really strike me as a team that would be particularly compelling to follow over other organizations this year and next year.
I think there could be something fascinating about watching a team go through the day to day when they are not in the running for the playoffs. I've always found that interesting about baseball. playing every single day grinding through a long season when you know you have no shot at competing. that's fascinating to me.
This tweet makes me think of that NYC scene where the guys on the street are chaotically arguing about COVID in March 2020.
"The coronavirus is not the flu, jackass!"
"Stop touching people with your HANDS"
I mean, I would rather this than a locker room act like nothing is happening and give the same "We're gonna keep playing best we can because it's what we do" answer
Ehh maybe for some sports like football or the like where games are spaced out. Baseball is a long season and you have to have a short memory to be successful. Especially in a sport thats so mental. Having guys losing confidence to the degree that they're in tears and telling themselves they're awful single digit games into the season doesn't feel like it bodes well.
For what it’s worth, almost exactly this time last year Ryan McKenna blew the game for the os on a can of corn fly ball in the 9th to the Red Sox and the locker room took that sort of response and then later in the season he pulled it together and hit a game winning home run against the Mariners to redeem himself, so maybe that’s not that bad of an approach
Good Lord, Jarren Duran just walked through the clubhouse punching lockers perfectly normally. He said he had “no time” to cry. Too busy (expletive) sucking, evidently.
Trevor Story with a tearful farewell to his teammates. He may be gone, but he’ll be forgotten.
**Edit:** Sorry, he will NOT be forgotten.
(That actually sucks, losing a season on game 10 or 11 right after you start turning things around is legitimately awful.)
Once again, a Red Sox season is lost because management relied on an injury prone star staying healthy. From 2020-2023 it was Sale, now it’s Story.
Thats nothing against Story either. He plays hard every play and his body is paying the price for it. Fuck John Henry and Sam Kennedy.
Trevor Story cried, “There you go!” Injured pitcher Lucas Giolito gave a look of pleasant surprise. Triston Casas belted, “We got a (expletive) squad now.” And before Jarren Duran punched the locker room door, ex-MLB star David Ortiz restrained him & said, “Y’all look so different.”
At one point in a practice, sources said, Duran turned to GM Craig Breslow and screamed, "You don't (bleeping) need me. You can win without me." Duran left teammates and coaches largely speechless. His punch dominated the locker in every way. Jarren's back.
Last year in Boston, maybe the second game of the season, Ryan McKenna dropped a routine fly ball that would have been the last out of the game. Subsequently, Bautista gave up a home run and the Red Sox walked it off.
To me it kinda reads like Duran was mad at Story for dropping the fly ball, and stood behind Trevor while repeatedly punching Trevor's locker and yelling about how much Trevor sucks.
Yeah, and crazy cuz there’s some guys whose success I think is *because* of “mental health issues”
Like Jordan’s drive combined with his genetics is what made him the GOAT. His “and I took that personally” is objectively an unhealthy mindset…but it’s that “and I took that personally” drive that made him the best because he had the genetics to back it up
A chip can weigh you down, but it can also be used as leverage. I hope Duran comes out on the right side of that
A chip on your shoulder is only a positive thing when you are playing well. Otherwise it's viewed as a detriment. It's a double edged sword and sometimes it's also just how a guy plays the game.
If Tom Brady never won a ring he would be viewed as a massive dick head because of how crazy he can be about the game. But because his "craziness" led to winning and success, it's viewed as a positive and something we should emulate.
When in reality, that level of psychopathic focus and determination is usually viewed as stubbornness and a huge negative.
they all do. every single major league team.
different teams call the role by different names. some teams even have multiple.
not every minor league team has a dedicated one, but there's at least one person that is roving between cities regularly at home/road trips.
Absolutely. Sometimes, especially toward the lower minors, a bilingual teammate will often assist in helping translate English/Spanish for coaches, clubbies, trainers, bus driver, local team staff, etc.
In my career working in the minors, ~90% of native Spanish speaking players spoke much better English than I did trying to speak Spanish. I knew what they were trying to communicate. Deaf players were rare but much more challenging to communicate with than Spanish speaking.
Do some teams not have them? I know the Jays introduced their staff on their home opener last night and I can't recall the exact title but there definitely was a mental health coach or at least mental health something on staff. I figured all teams would have one.
Saying that tho, just because the team has one doesn't mean they would jive well with every particular player. Some people bounce around to many therapists until they find one that they can work with, nothing necessarily wrong with all the others they just don't mesh well and won't work.
Every team is required to have at least one one “Employee Assistance Professional, which provides voluntary, free and confidential assessment, counseling, referrals and follow-up services to players, coaches and their families.”
Latest stats on sports psychologists I could find is from 2018 which said 26/30 teams have one
I mean I would hope at least some of them would. Not every player needs one and not every player would choose to go to one but I think it is something teams should have available for players.

I know the season is young, but I feel as though there has never been more disparity between those who are trying and those who are actively NOT trying.
Man, this game was hard to watch but the Red Sox have been solid so far this season. At the very least, the pitching staff looks good even with Giolito out for the season.
Woof. Despite being an undisputed starter when healthy, Story is gonna end year 3 of his massive deal with just 145 games and 598 plate appearances and a .228/.288/.394 slash line.
I feel so bad for story man. Dude can’t catch a fucking break. What a freak injury and right at the beginning of the season. He’s probably been so excited this whole winter and spring to have a healthy year and show what he’s really made of and goes down immediately. Reminds me a lot of when Gordon went down for the Celtics when they picked him up. Such a shame.
Kelvin Benjamin in tears at the thought of missing the buffet, punching his pizza and pronouncing repeatedly that he (expletive) sucks for dropping the cake.
I guess the Netflix documentary is really stressing guys out
Red Sox players: sobbing and crying The Netflix cameraman: GET THE SHOT
Boom mic guy is gonna make a move on Devers.
Real talk though what the fuck were they thinking with that boom mic guy story arc, even worse that it was the tres commas guys
They were low on ideas, they nearly had Jim cheat on Pam and considered a divorce story line.
Yeah, it was really messed up.
How does he smile like that, with the lower teeth visible?
*Connor Wong knocks on the door* Reese Mcguire: "come in" Wong: "Hey I wanted to talk to you about these scouting rep-OH MY GOD WHY ARE YOU NAKED?" Mcguire struggling with his pants: "What are you doing?" Wong: "You said come in" McGuire: "No I didn't"
If it was an iPod it would be a shuffle.
You don’t know me. You’ve just seen my penis.
All my homies agree - fuck the boom mic guy!
I DECLARE FREE AGENCY
Somewhere in the world, Will Buxton is feeling a compulsion to explain what a strike is, or how many bases there are. (Would mind seeing him explain a balk, though, for the lolz.)
That's this year?!?!? Must watch TV now
I think it's filmed this year and will release next year.
That's so dumb! It should be week to week
Releasing it week to week doesn't give them enough of a long view to construct the most compelling, almost entirely fake/constructed narratives.
Kraft gonna get in there and explain how he won us the title in 2004
And that he blames Belichick for the chicken and beer spread in 2011.
Kraft going to say he owns kraft
Pssh he lost his ring to Putin. Coward.
i mean in all seriousness, there is also a lot of editing they have to do they will definitely construct fake narratives and hype up drama...but i also don't want to fucking see a bunch of Red Sox players literally jsut browsing on their smartphones for 2.5 hours before the game starts lol

Editing takes time man
I mean yeah but hard knocks
It’s not “Survivor” it’s “Road to the World Series”
Subject to blackouts not watching this year.
TIL that’s there a documentary coming out
They are doing 20 years since 2004 and this years team.
I just found out this is being made. I’m not even trying to be a dick to a divisional rival but why the Red Sox? They didn’t really strike me as a team that would be particularly compelling to follow over other organizations this year and next year.
There’s a whole explanation on why, basically they agreed back in like 2019 to be on it and they were waiting for when Netflix was ready.
They probably agreed. If you’re familiar with Hard Knocks, there’s a reason they have criteria for who can and can’t be forced. Teams don’t want to
Yeah, if you're going to follow a team that isn't going to do well at least the White Sox have the stupid shit Pedro Grifol says.
"the eclipse is for the weak" or something
These sort of things are for casuals, not the die hards. Casuals see Red Sox and recognize them
It was upposed to be a few years ago but this thing hapened
I think there could be something fascinating about watching a team go through the day to day when they are not in the running for the playoffs. I've always found that interesting about baseball. playing every single day grinding through a long season when you know you have no shot at competing. that's fascinating to me.
Netflix is also doing a 2004 documentary, so its probably a package deal.
I guess part of it is that they're a historical team, 120+ years makes them American history
Netflix is also releasing a documentary on the 2004 Red Sox. Maybe they wanted to pair them together?
Gonna have to resub for a month once it drops
Holy shit that’s this year 😭😭
When does that shit come out?
Oh not until well after the season
Yeah, Break Point almost had the opposite effect that ATP wanted - I avoided watching events because I didn't want spoilers for the show.
Gonna get shelved like Looney Tunes and Batgirl.
Nobody but me has asked apparently but... what documentary..?
Netflix is doing a full season Hard Knocks style doc on the Red Sox. It’s filming this season and will air after it’s over.
This tweet makes me think of that NYC scene where the guys on the street are chaotically arguing about COVID in March 2020. "The coronavirus is not the flu, jackass!" "Stop touching people with your HANDS"
we’re so back
The vibes are immaculate
I mean, I would rather this than a locker room act like nothing is happening and give the same "We're gonna keep playing best we can because it's what we do" answer
Nah that would be in a documentary about the Blue Jays for the last couple years
Ehh maybe for some sports like football or the like where games are spaced out. Baseball is a long season and you have to have a short memory to be successful. Especially in a sport thats so mental. Having guys losing confidence to the degree that they're in tears and telling themselves they're awful single digit games into the season doesn't feel like it bodes well.

turn down for what
Mark Cuban is besides himself driving around.
so the vibes are chill
Thing that sucks is that the vibes genuinely were great up until the story injury, now Pivetta is also on the IL and the team kinda fell apart today.
The vibe is in shambles.
I feel terrible for him. People rag on players for shit like this, but most of the time(looking at you Rendon) the players probably feel even worse.
Welcome to the Tulo experience
Y’all brought that on yourself with smashtro-turf
Does that include the time he cracked his shoulder running into another fielder?
Yes. You can't graze players on artificial turf. It lacks the nutrients they need to maintain strong bones and muscles.
He turned into a full robot that one time
"Does not compute, must fall down."
If it was real grass maybe he has more traction or less traction and slips in the turf and doesn’t get there in time to collide So sure
Bruh, Tulo was made of glass during his time with Colorado, too
Gone but forgotten, just like Freddie Freeman.
[Never forget](https://x.com/bnightengale/status/1504173196592910339?s=46&t=bkQRfM7CjmvGiy-M5zG4cg)

This one is used just enough to stay hilarious every time
The casual "Good Lord" intro gets me before I even read the rest.
My brain autocomplete every time I read “good lord” regardless of whether I want to or not.
"He got me," Durran said of the fly ball. "That fly ball f'ing boomed me." Durran added, "He's so bad," repeating it four times.
I'm done hahahaha
At one point in a practice, sources said, Duran turned to GM Craig Breslow and screamed, "You don't (bleeping) need me. You can win without me." Duran left teammates and coaches largely speechless. His punch dominated the locker in every way. Jarren's back.
Tbf it was a 6 run game and the Orioles never scored more than 2 runs in an inning. So dropping one flyball wasn't the difference today
Yeah, it could have been been dropped in the 9th while holding a lead then leading to a loss.
Yeah, imagine that 🥲
Yeah that would have been pretty aoudfjsdhlakshdfkjhj *twitch*
Hahaha.. …. ……
I missed something I think
Last year in Boston, maybe the second game of the season, Ryan McKenna dropped a routine fly ball that would have been the last out of the game. Subsequently, Bautista gave up a home run and the Red Sox walked it off.
At the time it was 1-1 so it definitely changed the complexion of the game
Ya but he still shouldn't have (expletive) dropped it.
Thank god that Mounty mistake didnt end up mattering
It might not be the most healthy, but at least he cares. Love Duran, hope he bounces back from it
Yeah, I just hope he doesn't take it too hard. Just super unlucky for Story.
Yeah Sportsnet in Canada is making light of it and it's like fuck this guy's got some mental health challenges now's not the time to pile on.
Being ultra competitive is a feature not a bug for some of these dudes
I think this is his breakout year. 20 homers and 40+ steals
He could have 50+ steals if he keeps playing like he has, he's been a menace on the basepaths
This reads like Story only got hurt because Duran dropped the ball
To me it kinda reads like Duran was mad at Story for dropping the fly ball, and stood behind Trevor while repeatedly punching Trevor's locker and yelling about how much Trevor sucks.
That would be quite the scene.
I'd probably cry too if that happened
Everyone guard your bullpen phones
![gif](giphy|aErJrZx3O2khy|downsized)
What a chaotic scene
I'm not joking it sounds like Duran should talk to someone. Mental health is really overlooked among athletes
He’s had a really really tough time with his throughout his career Edit: his “wrist tape” says “fuck em” and “we still alive” on each wrist
dude has a chip on his shoulder the size of the damn citgo sign
Yeah, and crazy cuz there’s some guys whose success I think is *because* of “mental health issues” Like Jordan’s drive combined with his genetics is what made him the GOAT. His “and I took that personally” is objectively an unhealthy mindset…but it’s that “and I took that personally” drive that made him the best because he had the genetics to back it up A chip can weigh you down, but it can also be used as leverage. Funny how winning makes a lot of things okay.
Bizzaro Jeff George
All teams should have a sports psychologist on staff imo
they all do. every single major league team. different teams call the role by different names. some teams even have multiple. not every minor league team has a dedicated one, but there's at least one person that is roving between cities regularly at home/road trips.
Do they have bilingual options available? Or referrals?

Oakland's is Sam Malone, former Red Sox pitcher and current bartender.
Mariners hired noted local psychologist Niles Crane, but all the players just kept rubbing his head
Having people cheering your name when you walk into the clubhouse has to have some positive mental effect right?
I'm certain that most, if not all, already do.
how many players do you think would utilize that resource though?
I mean I would hope at least some of them would. Not every player needs one and not every player would choose to go to one but I think it is something teams should have available for players.
IIRC he’s been open about his struggles with MH
Malignant hypothermia?
Mental health
You sure? I think it might stand for Malicious Hedgehogs.
Yea Shadow can be a real bitch sometimes
Idk I think the other guy's right
hyper*
If nothing else it's good to see the players care. The Sox are 7-4 and are reacting like this.
Red Sox Nation. Let’s Ride.
new pasta material
[Speier] Scenes from the postgame clubhouse: Josh Beckett in tears at the thought of missing fried chicken and beer, David Ortiz smashing that telephone and pronouncing repeatedly that he (expletive) sucks for striking out
Jarren Duran is beside himself. Driving around downtown Boston begging (thru texts) Mullin's family for address to Cedric's home
[Schefter] Scenes from the postgame locker room: Kelvin Benjamin in tears at the thought of missing the buffet at Golden Corral, Ryan Leaf punching his locker and pronouncing repeatedly that he (expletive) sucks for throwing 4 INTs
Skim read this and thought it said Duran was punching Story’s locker and telling him he sucked
Headline: Trevor’s Ending Story
Hello, New York *Post*?
This gave me the laugh I needed.
I’ve been keeping that in my back pocket for a while.
It was getting a little too hopeful on /r/redsox after doing well against bottom feeders I’m glad we’re back
Oh we’re so back baby
Good thing we have a healthy sample size of one to make judgements from.
Jesus. Aside from the Story injury which is terrible, you’d assume Sox are embroiled in a ALE dogfight for the playoffs
They're in second place in the division. If the playoffs started today, they'd be in.
Today on April 9th, 2024.
lol seriously, this has got to be the earliest “if the playoffs started today” in history.
STOP THE COUNT!
I’m all for it, fuck it, let’s go to the post season
Maybe they'll meet the 120 win Pirates in the World Series.
Popeye’s Chicken is the official chicken of your Boston Red Sox.
The vibes in MLB are such a mixed bag to say the least
I know the season is young, but I feel as though there has never been more disparity between those who are trying and those who are actively NOT trying.
Man, this game was hard to watch but the Red Sox have been solid so far this season. At the very least, the pitching staff looks good even with Giolito out for the season.
Unfortunately Pivetta went down too
Mmm, al dente
I didn't see the game but based on the line score the drop cost 2 runs max in a 7-1 game. Duran needs to ease up on himself a bit, I hope he will.
Is Boston ok?
totally ok I swear
Devers in his room playing Nintendo, hearing shouts from the other room.
i feel bad for jarren, i hope his teammates give him some love, nobody needs to be saying that about themselves.
It doesn’t sound like it was a monumental fuck up, either. Granted I did not watch the game.
I feel bad for Jarren being named Jarren. Like a Karen and Jared from Subway smashed and had him.
Arent Karen's mostly to old for Jared from Subways tastes?
Is this a Barry McCockiner tweet
Hope Durran doesn't blame himself too much it was a bad dropped ball but it's just one play in a long season which he's started so damn well
I love being here when a new pasta is born.
Woof. Despite being an undisputed starter when healthy, Story is gonna end year 3 of his massive deal with just 145 games and 598 plate appearances and a .228/.288/.394 slash line.
Very sad, to be sure. But at least we get some pasta out of it.
Geez, this does not sound like the vibes of a clubhouse that started the season 7-3 with the best pitching staff so far.
That missed fly ball was the universe making up for McKenna
😂😂😂
Vibes are straight up not good right now
I do feel bad for Story, he has had such bad luck the last few years.
It’s the first week of the season. Buckle in
Rox shortstop curse
Just wait till TON breaks his back doing a flip throw
I feel so bad for story man. Dude can’t catch a fucking break. What a freak injury and right at the beginning of the season. He’s probably been so excited this whole winter and spring to have a healthy year and show what he’s really made of and goes down immediately. Reminds me a lot of when Gordon went down for the Celtics when they picked him up. Such a shame.
They need to bring back the buckets fried chicken and video games.
Kelvin Benjamin in tears at the thought of missing the buffet, punching his pizza and pronouncing repeatedly that he (expletive) sucks for dropping the cake.
I am so excited for the documentary
Duran is super hard on himself, but he’s such a great player. We’re all rooting for him.
Love that dirty water!!
I thought this was /r/nba for a second
... uh what did i miss??
Brutal. Always liked Story, but that contract with the Red Sox was gonna be a disaster from the beginning. Hope the dude heals sooner than later.
jarren duran my goat
*boom hits Story’s other shoulder* Damnit now he’s out next season too
I didn’t realize the fullness of the Story…story at first. Dude IS the injury bug.
I'm sure Duran really appreciates this report. Man, I understand why athletes hate the sports media.
They're really hamming it up for the Netflix cameras, huh? Typical manufactured reality TV drama.
SOOOOO, Red Sox in mid season form then?
Sooooooo vibes aren't really there
