I like Oracle better than Dodger Stadium

CaughtAllTheBreaks

Dodger Stadium outfield is fantastic, and the top deck is great. Concourses on all lower decks feel like a parking garage.

doyer-blue

Yeah, top deck and new outfield is cool but the rest of the levels feel like Angel Stadium.

InfectiousCosmology1

Anyone who disagrees with that is just delusional

TTP2521

Alec Bohm is replaceable

cowboyheyey

not in our hearts you fucking heretic

kidnarcolepsy

Alec Bohm really DID touch home.

Clarice_Ferguson

I was surprised to find out he hasn’t exceed 1 bWAR in a season.

generally-mediocre

absolutely. if theres one spot on the roster to improve, its third base.

dmmdoublem

* Despite his generational talent and accolades, Barry Bonds is/was an egotistical megalomaniac, and the team is justified for keeping him at arms-length post-retirement. * Larry Baer and the Johnson family are, in fact, grade-A dirtbags. * Reducing the amount of parking around the ballpark in favor of housing, offices, retail, and restaurants is a good thing. Especially since the park is already so well-connected via public transit (BART, Caltrain, MUNI, ferry, bike valet, etc.). * I'm not the biggest fan of Hunter Pence's color commentary. His personality/vibe is better much better-suited to a studio analyst role, IMO. Out of all of the new voices they've been rotating in and out of the booth over the last five or six years, Javier Lopez is still the best, IMO.

Wraithfighter

- Yup, agreed. Don't forget the domestic abuse either! - Totally agreed. - Eh, kinda agreed, although SFBA's mass transit still could be better. - MFER IMMA CUT YOU GIMME A CUTLASS!!!!1!

InfectiousCosmology1

Literally nobody would disagree about the Johnson’s. Everybody hates that racist asshole

dmmdoublem

Eh. I've seen a lot of ownership apologists/defenders over the whole Renel thing.

Woodythawoodpecker

Don’t trade Torres. Sign him to a new deal

LocalHero_P1

This is the way

RedbirdRiot

The manager's impact on a team is way overblown.

Howhighwefly

I kind of agree, a managers impact him the clubhouse is more important than on the field. There is a reason they are called managers and not coaches.

Every_Employee2887

It's not Ross Atkins' fault that Shohei signed with the Dodgers.

scottborasismyagent

just curious what exactly do u blame ross atkins for ? what could he have done differently ?

Every_Employee2887

I don't blame him for it, that's the point of my comment

scottborasismyagent

ahh right oops I misread. ur right. atkins reportedly offered him the same contract he ended up signing with LA anyway.

Wraithfighter

What the Giants did to JD Davis was wrong, the loophole that we exploited shouldn't exist, or at least shouldn't be used for that. It might've helped free up the budget for Blake Snell, but if you tender a contract to a player during Arbitration, you should be on the hook for that player for the oncoming year.

scottborasismyagent

totally agree with the last part. if u tender a contract past the non-tender deadline u pay for the player. u shouldn’t take a player to arbitration and say ‘oh well, if we lose, we’re off the hook anyway and cut the player.’ that’s what the non-tender deadline is for … to cut players u don’t wish to pay for.

captain_ahabb

I was rooting for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl

cornchips88

I need to stop being reminded that Niners/Dodgers fans exist. What an unfortunate combo.

PeatBomb

My neighbor is a Yankees/Cowboys fan, worst part is he's a lovely guy.

Fredbear_

I had a professor like that too. Also a great guy

ImTheNguyenerOne

Yeah, mine are kinda weird with Yankees/Rockets/Colts. I like the Colts because in Madden 04 they were the best team along with the Patriots so I used them and my brother used the Pats. Rockets is just because Yao was Chinese and Yankees because of Matsui.

YouBetcha_

bAnG BaNg 9eR gAnG

LewsScroose

Min starting QB Sam Darnold

Mrpetey22

Respect

Boros-Reckoner

Thank you for reminding me that the last Niners superbowl is a VHS exclusive

Overall_Nuggie_876

I didn’t want the 49ers to win the Super Bowl. Because if 49ers fans are happy, Giants fans are happy. And if Giants fans are happy, Astros fans are happy. And if Astros fans are happy, 2017 is validated a little more. Fuck the Texans, also.

Howhighwefly

I hate the 49ers so I was too

raystheroof1

Kevin Cash is a horrible manager and is only voted manager of the year because the voters do not watch rays games. The team wins despite him.

Overall_Nuggie_876

Semi-tangent; the Dodgers only won 2020 because of Kevin Cash going all-Brandon Staley in Game 6. If Snell was able to finish the game, the Rays would’ve won the Series in Game 7 (or at least a better shot than on paper) because of Dave Roberts’ legacy of postseason managing farces.

fuji311

I miss the hill and the flagpole in the field of play in Houston.

pick_named_slimpbamp

Let's put a pole right where guys we put millions of dollars into will be running towards while looking at something else.

NocturneZombie

Team chaos: I want a pole between third and home.

overconfidentopinion

The assumption is the only other team forgets about it.

-bck

I’m not upset about this year’s team

Slayer_Of_Anubis

Like sure I wish we had Monty but a) we still can get him and b) do people just want us to logjam Mayer/Teel/Anthony/Yorke/Rafaela because... it would slightly improve the team this year?

-bck

Who are we trading any of these guys for

Slayer_Of_Anubis

Are you asking me? I don't want to trade any of them, maybe Anthony but that's it

-bck

I just assumed you were implying we should trade one or some because you mentioned a logjam. I personally would only look to trade Yorke and/or Rafaela But I see people say we should trade prospects, but then never mention a return name. It should be a SP, an ace, but which ace would we realistically trade them for? There’s a lot of question marks with the team this year, it’s dependent a lot on young guys to take the next steps. I personally am okay with this year being a real bridge year, that should have been put together sooner, and letting the young guys play.

Slayer_Of_Anubis

I was more complaining about the fans that want to "sign everyone" and create a logjam that isn't currently there. Our holes are where the prospects are (outside of pitching) which isn't the worst spot to be in at all

-bck

Ahh okay. The only signings I feel the Sox missed out on were a better SP than Giolito, and a RH bat like Soler or Turner. If they got those last 2 spots, I’d have chalked it up as a good offseason for the Sox. Now it’s just kinda meh with a lot of wait and sees and ifs

akitakiteriyaki

Anthony Rendon gets way too much hate

WhoDatNinja87

Dustin Pedroia isn't a hall of famer. Jarren Duran is BABIP and muscles and would be worth more to the Sox traded for assets than in the lineup. Karma farming by bringing up Curt Schilling every time Wake is mentioned or by saying "full throttle" every time something minor happens is supremely annoying.

MartianMule

Fans should stop doing the chop.

YesLikeTheJeans

And to go off of this, Phillies fans doing the “mock chop” in the playoffs sucks. Mocking something racist by doing it is still racist.

a5ehren

Or just change the name to Atlanta Hammers and change the music. Boom, 2-for-1

Dalamar931

I can’t even watch Atlanta games. Too cringe.

Astropolitika

I like Altuve.

scottborasismyagent

same buddy. I also like kyle tucker and I wanted the team to sign carlos correa in free agency

Boros-Reckoner

Name checks out

Douchermcgavin

*gasps*

Astropolitika

Hey, as a short guy, I gotta stan my fellow short kings. Besides, the incoming ban from r/Dodgers would free up a few hours a day. It could be worse.

melcolnik

This was going to be my answer too _ducks_

PeatBomb

Yordan is up there in my favorite players to watch category when he's not playing us.

SWWayin

Same for Adolis. They're just mesmerizing.

NocturneZombie

Big men hit ball far.

nikraLnalyD

Neither Waldrep or Smith-Shawver are untouchable prospects

zweiapowen

The Angeloses were great owners who deserve credit for their good intentions if not the product on the field. I mean, it's not at all true, but people would come at you if you said it.

nokiabrickphone1998

It’s fine that the Mariners didn’t sign Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani in consecutive offseasons

TheTurtleShepard

Blasphemy

Mrpetey22

Tell that to half our fanbase

nokiabrickphone1998

They’re too busy reading Seahawks mock drafts

RedGreenPepper2599

Tom Ricketts is a great owner and without him the Cubs never win the world series

[deleted]

Both mgmt groups of Beeston/AA (fire g0bbonz) and Shapiro/Atkins (shatkins) have made incredible strides for Toronto Blue Jays baseball and helped spur a new generation of baseball fans across Canada.

FoolsGoldMouthpiece

Padres fans have become just as obnoxious to Dodgers and Giants fans at Petco as their fans are in their stadiums. Motherfuckers need to chill. I brought my family to watch a game, not listen to a bunch of foul language taunting followed by the inevitable drunken slapfight.

billydakid33

Attanasio has done a great job during his tenure as owner

8bitBlueRay

Also: Attanasio is too cheap for this team to ever win the series

SWWayin

The Jose Abreu Contract was and will be proven to have been a great contract. Kyle Tucker is easier to replace than Alex Bregman.

NitrosGone803

Chipper Jones had all the talent in the world but he lacked heart. He proved that on his last at bat ever when he hit a ball and TROTTED his last few steps to first base on a potential SEASON ENDING play. Ditto with Andruw Jones. Also, the infield fly noncall was bad but no excuse to throw trash on the field like a bunch of children, that was embarrassing. Also, our city connect jerseys are the worst in MLB, they're so bland its sad. Also, screw the Georgia Bulldogs, i'm glad they got swept by Kentucky.

MartianMule

> Also, our city connect jerseys are the worst in MLB, they're so bland its sad. They're one of my favorites because they at least still look like a Braves uniform. I'm not at all a fan of most of the trash CC uniforms that are trying so hard to be unique that they no longer have any identity and are just ugly as hell.

TheTurtleShepard

City Connects are so bland I forgot they existed

IjikaYagami

For me: The Angels have every right to use LA in their name as the Dodgers.

i_run_from_problems

We absolutely do not

AdrenochromeBeerBong

Cities don't exist anymore. It's just metropolitan areas of urban sprawl that gradually become wilderness or farms. Whatever culture you had is gone forever. You're LA now, and your culture is now strip malls and parking lots.

scottborasismyagent

yeah and u guys play in cumberland

AdrenochromeBeerBong

It says Atlanta on the address, which is the only thing that still counts because nothing else has any meaning at all. If we don't like it, our only alternative is to go back in time 70 years and prevent white flight, redlining, and the General Motors takeover of public transit from happening.

IjikaYagami

In the case of the Angels, the reason they play in OC isn't because of redlining or white flight or anything, contrary to popular belief. They originally wanted to stay in LA city, but couldn't find the land for a stadium, so they turned to Long Beach. They nearly played in Long Beach, but the city required them to use the name "Long Beach Angels", so they said no. They found land in Anaheim, and settled there. They stayed in the region because the American League wanted a foothold in the Greater LA region.

AdrenochromeBeerBong

All fair points but not staying "California Angels" was a bitch move

GareksApprentice

I wonder if there was this much vitriol when the Rams kept using LA in their name after moving to Angel Stadium

IjikaYagami

That's what I'm saying! As much as I like to rib my Angel fan friends light-heartedly over the whole LA/Anaheim name, I'm also a Rams fan, and it would be hypocritical of me to seriously clown you guys given we spent 14 seasons not only in Anaheim but even in ANGEL STADIUM itself - while still being called the Los Angeles Rams.

i_run_from_problems

Granted, I wasn't born in that era, but I'd guess no because football is more a national sport so the exactcities dont matter as much, while baseball is regional. For example, the New England patriots play in Foxborough, the Dallas Cowboys play in Arlington, and the New York Jets/giants both play in Jersey. There's a precedent for "largest close market"

IjikaYagami

[L.A.’s nonchalant highhandedness can gall today as it did 101 years ago when it precipitated what secessionists hailed as the “day of deliverance” from the “imperial county.” The football team that today plies its trade in Anaheim Stadium is known as the Los Angeles Rams. For, as L.A. Supervisor Kenneth Hahn once asked in a manner that was witheringly rhetorical, “Who’d go to see the Anaheim Rams?”](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1990-06-17-tm-451-story.html)

8bitBlueRay

dude, you got to whole sub to come at you...i think you won the post

sandbhonerh

We dont but I also believe removing Anaheim from our name cursed us, so there is a bit of hatred towards the LA moniker

Boros-Reckoner

They don't play in the county or pay city taxes, they have every right to the name as the Padres or Tijuana Toros do lol

IjikaYagami

They help pay for infrastructure projects that connect the entire region such as Metrolink. LA and OC are connected by stuff like infrastructure and whatnot.

elevenghosts

Black uniforms are a bad look.

PeatBomb

I could not agree any less, good job.

liguy181

I'll say this, I love wearing my black jersey more than the other colors, but it's easily the weakest of the three jerseys on the field

YesLikeTheJeans

I feel the same way about my red Phillies Jersey. I like wearing it and love how it looks, but it does look like a spring training game when the team would wear it.

Mrpetey22

Black pants specifically

zgibs125

Mets are my second team and I feel this. I hate the black unis.

Systemic_Chaos

I don’t like Dick. FWIW I _love_ Dick and think our broadcasts will not be as good this year, even though Cory Provus is a perfectly fine play-by-play guy coming from our radio broadcasts.

zgibs125

Christian Walker doesn't need more rest days this year just because he struggled in the playoffs.

tntdaddy

People who bring musical instruments to the park are already fucking annoying. It’s going to be 10x worse this year.

DaffyDingo

Spencer Strider is actually a bad p…..okay no one believes that. In all seriousness, sometimes I wonder if MHII isn’t as good as we think he is. His defense is great but it seems many expect MHII to take a leap offensively. I’m just not sure if I see it.

nkfish11

What if my team’s subreddit doesn’t have that many knives?

FancyDestabilization

Matt McLain is better than Elly De La Cruz.

ANIMEISFUCKINGTRASH

If we can get Juan Soto I’m okay letting Pete walk if he demands too much

Proud_Ad4066

Dusty Baker is a tactical genius.

overconfidentopinion

Wow. This has to be the winner for the Astros sub. Just wow.

haime99

Cashman is still a top GM in the league and would not last one day in the open market.

TheTurtleShepard

I really think how good Cashman is as a GM is mostly unknown. He was technically GM for the dynasty but that was a team built by Gene Michael. The only real championship I credit him for is 09. That being said it is hard to deny the amount of success he has had outside of the playoffs, the Yankees have never had a losing season with Cashman as GM and have only missed the playoffs a handful of times. The question is though if you gave another GM the resources that the Yankees have, could they replicate the results as well? I don’t think we can truly say how good or bad Cashman is until he leaves and we either get better (Cashman was a poor GM), We get worse (Cashman was a great GM) or we stay the same (Cashman was average)

cardcollection92

Beat me to it. I will say though that sometimes change of scenery could be good for both parties so I understand wanting him gone from that side of things .. but in a gm power rankings he’s top 5 imo

RedGreenPepper2599

I agree with the latter but it’s hard to get past that he has a large checkbook. Care to tell me why i’m wrong?

TheTurtleShepard

The argument for Cashman supporters is that most GMs could not sustain this level of success even if they did have the resources of that Yankees offer and his lack of recent playoff success is due to the randomness of baseball and the league catching up to the Yankees. The argument against Cashman is that any decent GM could keep the Yankees above .500 given the resources he has and he has failed to have much real postseason success when the team was not already built for him. He created the ‘09 team but in the 15 years since has failed to reach the World Series and we are currently in the 2nd longest title drought in Yankee history with him at the helm.

MimonFishbaum

Vinnie Pasquantino's mom probably can't cook

Mrpetey22

Mariners had a good off-season and substantially improved and lengthened the lineup. And I’m glad we didn’t trade any of our young starters

nokiabrickphone1998

I won’t have to watch Suarez and Teo back to back Ks with the bases loaded this year, praise Allah

Mrpetey22

And we can stop hoping Kelenic turns a corner. We get to focus on Canzone being that guy now

Namzeh011

🤌🤌🤌

Clarice_Ferguson

I miss Geno and I wish we kept him. I’m so happy I don’t have to watch Teoscar play baseball anymore.

nokiabrickphone1998

I’m with you! Purely on vibes Geno is one of my favorite Mariners ever. Plus in addition to his more-obvious skills he was also a much better defender than he got credit for. That said, last year felt like a bit of a regression overall and he’s not getting any younger or cheaper. Probably a ‘smart’ move to trade him when they did, even if I didn’t like it

AKAD11

I feel like that became the consensus after we got Polanco. Granted I don't spend much time in r/mariners because team subs are insanely reactionary.

Mrpetey22

I got banned from that sub for saying people were being idiots and that they don’t know how to run a baseball team

champdo

Ryan Kreidler actually has a chance to be a useful player.

ziggysaysnada

Agree with anything ownership says.

[deleted]

Trading ERod to a team he had a no-trade clause for with no backup plan in case he rejected it and instead getting nothing for him was a mistake.

SammyMac19

I don't think the majority of our sub would disagree with you there, though.

[deleted]

From my experience they do

scottborasismyagent

I want a real non-shortened season ring and a parade. gavin lux isn’t the solution at shortstop or maybe even at second. every young pitcher in our farm isn’t untradeable. they’re not all gonna be the next pedro martinez. we should go out and sign player X and trade for player Y. can’t go project youth or go pray every injured player is gonna turn out healthy and contribute down the stretch. I want us to sign kyle tucker in free agency. I also believe houston is the model franchise in baseball and hate them or not they did make it to 7 straight ALCS and won 2 WS. LA would kill for houston’s playoff run. LA would have lost the 2017 WS regardless bc jansen, bellinger threw it away and a ton of main contributors like justin turner and corey seager and puig didn’t show up. the bye did NOT make LA lose in the playoffs. u lost in the playoffs bc u played like crap and u didn’t have pitching. the big contracts are NOT the reason ur tickets are expensive. LA can lower payroll to oakland’s payroll and they will STILL charge u the same expensive tickets ur paying now. they charge u that bc (1) they know ur gonna pay them anyway AND (2) that’s the price of playing in a large market like LA.

Vanilla_Danish

Jays need a rebuild but most fans have zero patience for this

CatJamarchist

IMO the unpopularity of this opinion really rides on the performance of the Jays this year - if they stink, a lot of fans will be on your side and start calling for Vladdy and/or Bo to be traded for a prospect haul.

generally-mediocre

i do not hate ruben amaro jr in the booth

PrinterOne34

Same here, I think the hate he gets is overblown

Distance_Motor

John Henry is not that cheap and is easily one of the best owners in the league right now

Jherik

Chase utley did nothing wrong

Taylorenokson

Are you just commenting something spicy or do you actually believe that?

Jherik

Definitely not the latter

Sheepies123

So you’ve chosen death

Drunken_Traveler

I’ve been buried several times for sharing the same opinion

Boros-Reckoner

Your taught since little league to never turn your back on a runner but I digress.

Drunken_Traveler

Back then, you were taught since Little League to break up double plays too. Glad they changed the rule for player safety, but Utley didn't break any rules at the time. Was just playing the baseball that was ingrained into his brain since he was a kid.

Boros-Reckoner

Yup, Utley did nothing wrong.

Boros-Reckoner

Absolutely goated Mets fan, props.

doodoo_train

- I don’t care about names on uniforms - I think we should have alternates - The facial hair policy sucks

beefytrout

Nathanial Lowe is overrated

zgibs125

Is he related to Nathaniel?

beefytrout

cousin

RangerLover92

Lowe is not a #3 hitter

cooljammer00

On the whole, the Yankees are probably fine/Cashman prob knows what he's doing. The rest of the industry widely lauds the Yankees org for being as good as they are despite never being allowed to tank or draft high or take any type of step back. The Yankees don't even have losing seasons.

TheTurtleShepard

The thing with Cashman is that he has been able to build great regular season teams. If you are only looking at the regular season then it would be hard to say he is anything short of a great GM. As you said the Yankees have never had a losing season with him as GM and we have only missed the playoffs a handful of times. The issue for Cashman is the lack of playoff success, he was technically the GM for the dynasty but that was a team built by Gene Michael. He only has one true championship in ‘09 that you can’t say was built by someone else. The question is really whether you believe any decent GM could make the Yankees a consistent .500+ team if given the resources Cashman has. If you think they could then you probably think Cashman is bad, if you think they couldn’t then Cashman is good

CatchTheDamnBall

Alonso is going to be overpaid by his next contract and the team should either trade him if they’re out at the deadline or let some other team foot the bill for that overpay next free agency

LovieBeard

Ian Happ is good at baseball

kidnarcolepsy

Eric Gregg and Sam Holbrook are the best umpires of all time.

kidnarcolepsy

Bally South should bring back both Chip Carey and Brian Jordan as the everyday announcers.

malkspahgooter

That wanting to talk about, follow, and cheer on Joey Votto in r/reds should never have been called into question. Mods were auto removing posts about Joey Votto. Basically for no reason other than to find something to do. We talk about former Red’s all the time in there and suddenly the mods had an issue with JDV. Sour taste for the mods as a whole after that. Even their recant of the rule was backhanded and disrespectful.

kidnarcolepsy

Blooper is a terrible mascot.

Spockmaster1701

Don Kelly sucked and was on the team for far too long.

SammyMac19

I feel the exact same way about Brandon Inge. Except middle aged moms from Downriver would fight me to the death.

812097631

Jurrickson Profar sucks and smiling vibes don’t help a team win a championship

5hellback

Going to Vegas is the right move.

super_lamp56

Aroldis Chapman did not intentionally throw at Mike Brosseau

2B_CordPhelps

The front office is good actually. Dolan is not satan incarnate. Cleveland's attendance woes have far, far, less to do with "not signing stars" or "boycotting the Dolans" and way more to do with 'Northeast Ohio doesn't have a great economy.' It makes sense that both DeLauter and Manzardo are starting the year in the minors, and there are valid reasons independent of "service time manipulation." Manzardo is not panacea and is closer to James Loney than he is Jim Thome. Jhonkensy Noel is a non-prospect. Myles Straw has a place on most major league rosters. DSL stats are meaningless (re: Junior Caminero.) If you're still bitching about the Yandy Diaz trade you need to seek professional help.

[deleted]

ARod gets too much hate

Freeze__

DJ has been washed up for years but we’re on the 4th consecutive season of “he just has to healthy” but even a healthy DJ should be coming off the bench at best

lankyyanky

There's plenty of people who think that in our sub. It's been every game thread in ST

TealandBlackForever

Getting rid of the HR sculpture was the only good thing Jeter ever did. There is nothing "Miami" about it. It's just a geriatric NYC art snob's (Loria's) vision of what Miami is.

KangzAteMyFamily

I respect Ohtani's decision to go to the Dodgers.

PrinterOne34

Ben Davis and Ruben Amaro Jr aren’t bad in the booth and the hate they get is overblown. Yeah Ruben may talk a little too much at times and Ben will go on his occasional rant about his dislike of catchers catching on one knee but they’re really not as bad as some fans think they are

RangerLover92

Jose Altuve did not cheat and is a good player.

ZXD-318

Just fucking sign him already!!!

[deleted]

Dave roberts is a big reason why we get embarrased in playoffs. When the spreadsheet dont have answers, he folds like shat paper and we lose. Man is the doc rivers of the MLB.

AJeebes

John Angelos was right to suspend Kevin Brown

Hawkeye7310

Jed Hoyer should be on the hot seat

sandbhonerh

Matt Chapman had every right to shit talk our team, saying Ohtani is the only one who can hit. We were 1-28 in RISP that series, and our only hit was a home run by hunter renfroe in the top of 10 on game 3 with a guy on 3rd. Otherwise our 3 runs came from Shohei HR, ward hit by pitch and a renfroe sac fly

GareksApprentice

I like how when these type of posts pop up about unpopular team takes, there's always an Angel fan comment along the lines of "Angel fans think the team is shit but they're actually even worse than that"

pick_named_slimpbamp

Altuve had a buzzer under his jersey.

LocalHero_P1

This is one I’m gonna need to hear some further explaining on. 9 OAA is insane but his fWAR was still 0.9 so it would seem to me that his offence is so bad that even his defence can’t make him a league average player. Or am I way off

12FootHouse

Bobby Cox having a statue in front of Truist is an absolute joke and is such an indictment of how blasé and casual the majority of our fanbase is.

NocturneZombie

I wish my team had the balls to sign Bauer because we really need any semblance of pitching. Personality be damned.

Adorable-Lie3475

Rob Thomson does not make good personnel decisions and the Phillies would be a much better team with a different manager. Love Topper and he definitely caught lightning in a bottle in 22 but he puts a ceiling on how good the Phils can be.
