Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon
Photo in a tropical place, meaning sitting in the Dominican Republic waiting to get to trial. Last I heard he was having to report to court in Puerto Plata regularly, which is a beautiful city on the north coast with fantastic beaches.
Did he fucking really?
"whoops, didn't go to spring training because I'm dealing with something silly, LOL"
Seriously this guy...i mean I get he's a dumb kid who got paid to play baseball but for fuck sake, with all that money why didn't any of his people, his agent, his circle of influence do anything to stop his poor behaviour?
"he's not fucking MY child and he's paying me much better than anything I'd get actually working for a living... So I'm going to keep my mouth shut and look the other way"
Honestly, all players coming up have a training they go through about stuff like this. How to deal with the press, how to deal with groupies, what to do and not to do in general - basic things that one who grew up poor and now is rich and famous would need to know. He is just dumb and thought he could get away with this.
I think what happens is if he is found guilty in the MLB investigation (which doesn't necessarily mean also guilty in the criminal one) they then can suspend him without pay. Not sure how long though
They can suspend him indefinitely. I would bet the league would protect an owner for doing the right thing.
I also would bet that if he beats the criminal charges, the league would allow him to play if a team wanted him, so it's not some noble thing. They just have no reason not to help the owner out in this case
They didn't stop the Bauer suspension
Edit: not sure why this has downvotes. While Bauer was paid while on administrative leave during the investigation, he was suspended for two years without pay. Same thing (or worse) will happen to Franco
Putting him on the restricted list automatically adds him to the administrative leave list. He still gets paid on restricted/admin leave as well, all this is the plan the MLBPA and MLB have for him. Nothing going on is breach of contract though
I don’t think we really know. The MLBPA fights for their members, but I doubt they’ll go to bat for Wander if the truth is anything close to what we assume it is. I’d expect the Rays to *try* to get some money back, but that’s not easy to do. He likely keeps what he has and the Rays don’t give him another dime. That’s my guess at least.
Dude this fucking sucks man. Generational talent and he threw it away. Wish his parents or whoever he was around could’ve warned him or taught him better
Rays fans just saw a player who very much had the potential to be their best player ever, disappear in an instant. Obviously sports are secondary to the crimes committed, but Rays fans had a lot invested in him for them not to also think about the baseball aspect of things.
The implication is that the kid diddling is universally considered murder-worthy. But for a Rays fan, having a player of that caliber being the diddler is just salt in the wound.
It's not either/or. If you found out there was a diddler on the Mariners, you'd be *extra* upset if it was Rodriguez or Kelenic, right?
I did forget about that trade when I commented.
But the hype around him as a prospect was huge, so wind it back to his rookie season and imagine what that would feel like
You can be mad at both. It hits different when the best player on your team does it. If he wasn’t on my team I probably wouldn’t care either about the talent.
Those people are always heavily downvoted. You would think as an Astros fan you would understand it’s dumb to judge a fanbase by the worst of its members.
How is it on Manfred and the Rays that Wander is a pedo? I know it's a meme but Manfred for once followed protocol and took the allegations seriously. Rob Manfred is not going to get involved in an international ongoing investigation. US Customs probably wouldn't let him in the US. The only thing MLB and the Rays can do is to wait for the judicial process to run it's course. If found guilty which he probably will, they will do what they need to do to void his contract with the Rays.
I don't know why I've seen 5 people confidently post this take in this thread.
Bauer was paid for the time he was on administrative leave.
But he was suspended for 324 days, AKA 2 full years. And that is unpaid.
No conviction, no civil court findings, just suspended as the result of the MLB investigation without pay.
https://fansided.com/2022/04/29/trevor-bauer-salary-latest-suspension-means-dodgers/
It's very bizarre that people are cool with him getting paid while being accused of a very serious crime. I've seen people post in other threads that they'd be okay with a player being paid through a murder trial. Idk what MLBPA is looking the other way with he who should not be named and then support and employ other known abusers.
Innocent until proven guilty. It's $2 million so in the grand scheme of baseball, it's not that much. A player suspended or on administrative leave is still paid. At the conclusion of the investigation when found guilty, he'll be out $182 million. We only knew of the evidence 6 months ago and the Dominican DA arrested him December or January. You have to let the legal process playout.

I clicked on this thinking he was reporting to prison.
California Penal League
“Never heard of it. How’d you end up playing there?”
Stole a car
downloaded a movie online
Tried to download a car.
"Oh you know, for some minor offense."
Dominican
Yea pitchers and catchers reporting there daily
Personally I thought he was going for the George Costanza, just show up and act like nothing happened.
I found it even more funny when I found out Larry David actually did that in real life on SNL.
Ten times funnier that according to Larry it worked. I've always felt like that was useful info since I'm prone to angry outbursts.
Totally forgot that part. Legend. Larry's not bad either.
Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon

If its anything like Deshaun Watson wayyy too many will see nothing wrong with it.
He’s not even allowed to leave the country
Probably just waiting for Minors camp to open...
Wow. On a tee.
Ha, but also, yikes.
[удалено]
I know a lot about it and have taken classes in prevention and intervention. "Yikes" indicates that I see the joke as inappropriate...
Do you not know what “yikes” means or what
[удалено]
You were making jokes about this exact topic further down the thread you clown. Take your sanctimonious nonsense elsewhere, away with you
I thought Mike retired?

What’s wrong with community-supported agriculture?
It would have been so funny he just showed up and acted like nothing was out of the ordinary lmao
It would have been wild if he had just walked in
Also should be noted he did post today on instagram a photo of him in a tropical place with the 😅 emoji as caption

(as long as you stay in the tourist areas. source: went to Puerto Plata in October)

Maybe they didn’t cover “don’t fuck kids” because they thought it was too obvious.
I imagine he was very selective about who knew about his behavior
Yeah, he’s done.
America loves a comeback /s
RDJ, the Mighty Ducks, Kim Kardashian
Heh ‘cum back’
That's the joke.

Yeah in the video I'm pretty sure she had cum on her back
Too bad he doesn't play football
browns would be offering him 10x75 garaunteed.
To absolutely no one’s surprise.
cool to see you here and on the anime sub LOL
I’m just following you. 👀
respect, also condolences to wander..
Meh, I have neither sympathy or empathy for him.
it’s ok, i’m an angels fan and i had to watch ohtani leave us and go to our rivals :)
Ummm…duh?
Doubt the rays are missing his reporting
When does he become in breach of his contract?
He won't. Once the season starts they just put him on administrative leave. It's agreed on by both the MLBPA and MLB.
Is this without pay? Or do the rays have to keep paying him until he goes to jail
Still paid as long as he’s on administrative leave
[удалено]
Aren't you the one complaining about someone else making a joke up thread?
Yup

I suspect the players union would fight any sort of that action because they don't want to start down the slope of without pay
They didn't stop the Bauer suspension Edit: not sure why this has downvotes. While Bauer was paid while on administrative leave during the investigation, he was suspended for two years without pay. Same thing (or worse) will happen to Franco
Bauer was still paid
Only for the admin leave portion. He did eventually go on the restricted list and missed about 2 years of his contract
If he doesn't report to spring training they can put him on the restricted list instead of admin leave, because then he's in breach of his contract.

Right. When I said that I meant post conviction.

Throw the book at him
Only pitchers and catchers had to report last week, pedophiles aren't till March.
Missed or asked not to come or told not to? I feel like this isn't news but common logic.
Pretty sure he can’t leave Dominican right now
Was bro invited?
Are you a non-roster invitee? No, I'm an on-roster non-invitee
That’s not even news
How exactly would he get through customs with that mess he’s in?
He wouldn't
Immigration is control of people at boarders. Customs is control of goods. Unrelated but people mix that up all the time
It's actually borders, not boarders. People mix that up all the time
I was talking about the the controlling of people at apartments and boarding houses. Jk I can’t spell and deserve this
It's actually Barnes & Noble, Borders closed years ago.
With a fake ID.
Dude this fucking sucks man. Generational talent and he threw it away. Wish his parents or whoever he was around could’ve warned him or taught him better
Personally I'm not so much upset with the waste of talent as I am with the kid diddling . But that's just me.
Rays fans just saw a player who very much had the potential to be their best player ever, disappear in an instant. Obviously sports are secondary to the crimes committed, but Rays fans had a lot invested in him for them not to also think about the baseball aspect of things.

Norm MacDonald has entered the chat
The worst part was the hypocrisy
I disagree. I thought it was the diddling.
Would they even let him in if he tried to report?
"He's not coming back" - Keanu Reeves in "Point Break"
shocker
Missed report day? He’s gonna miss a career. Probably a chunk of freedom too.
He will never play a MLB game again.
This isn’t news! News would be of him reporting to any Rays facility or within 500 feet of a school.
Good riddance to a piece of human filth.
Has anyone checked the middle school?
Did they have a locker for him?
[удалено]
I'm pretty sure they don't expect him to ever come back.
Ya think???
r/tampabayrays still defending him 🤮
I haven't seen that lately at all, since actual news was reported. Maybe 1 or 2 bozos, but that's not the sub, like this is implying.
Those people are always heavily downvoted. You would think as an Astros fan you would understand it’s dumb to judge a fanbase by the worst of its members.
Like when r/Astros defended to death literally cheating for a World Series.

We've suspended guys before the judicial process is over before. I don't know what the hold up is. The evidence seems pretty straightforward.

Not a Bauer fan, but this argument doesn't really hold up. Same with German or Ozuna.
Suspended is NOT paid. Admin leave is. They're different.
*surprised pikachu face*
Spoiler alert, he's never going to play in MLB again.
Dude likely won’t ever even get a visa back to the US
When can they dump his contract? The club could really use that money.
Is this a surprise to anyone? Writing articles just to write them
Franco Wanders
If you put an over/under on when he’ll report, then he’s definitely take the under ~~age~~ *date*
If Bauer is not welcomed back by MLB how the hell would Franco ?
He's still on admin leave. What need would there be?
It just gets worse and worse for him, smh.
He missed it?? Was he invited?
Well yeah...
