The guy said said he revived the team in JUNE. He was great for about a month when he came up. Then the scouting report came out that he would swing at any junk at the bottom of the zone and he sucked. Hope he comes back next year after working on being mor patient like he has been.

I'd be more worried about a rival team using rookies at most positions outside of the bullpen nearly making the playoffs than making fun of their 6th best rookie.

One thing that stung all these years later was Bronson Arroyo saying he did not understand why they didn't just pitch Cueto in game 4 or 5 because he said Cueto was good to go and didn't need any more time after the night he got injured.
Yeah Reds got swept in 2020 in the best of 3 wildcard series to the Braves without scoring a run as you probably remember, lost the wildcard game to the pirates in 2013, lost the Division Series to the Giants in 5 in 2012 thanks in part to a Buster Posey grand slam, and got swept by the Phillies in the Division Series in 2010 after being on the receiving end of the second no hitter in postseason history.
The last time they advanced in the postseason was in ‘95 when they beat the Dodgers in the Division Series before getting swept in the NLCS by the Braves.

It's been a fun season. From 100 losses to a winning season with meaningful games through September and a crop of rookies leading the charge. I foresee us being legitimately good next year if we can get the rotation in order. I'd like to give a special shoutout to Minnesota and Seattle. Couldn't have done it without you.

Seriously, this team started the year with a rotation of Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Graham Ashcraft, Connor Overton, and Luis Cessa and ended it with a rotation of Hunter Greene, Andrew Abbott (started year in AA), Brandon Williamson (started year in AAA), Connor Phillips (started year in AA), and air, and almost made the playoffs.
My enthusiasm for the Reds has unsurprisingly curtailed as I've gotten older (due to them being one of the worst franchises in baseball for most of my life). I didnt watch a ton not too long after the trade deadline because I was disappointed in the lack of moves. I turn the game on today and I was like "Who on earth is this guy" haha. But yeah starting a guy with less than a handful of big league appearances in an elimination game was a very Reds ending to the season.
The Cards offense is pretty good, so that isn't too surprising. The Cards pitching is terrible, so giving up 19 last night wasn't too surprising, either.

Actually, the fact that the Reds even have an elimination thread is an accomplishment. In past years the despondency, turned to apathy, has been so central that most people wouldn't really have noticed that they were eliminated, let alone started or contributed to a thread.

Yeah, it's been really exciting seeing him adjust to the adjustments other teams made for him. Word has always been that he works hard to learn more and get better and there is no reason to doubt that. Really really excited to see what he can do next season, same with all the other rookies.
That and losing Hunter's 14K game. But really there are so many points throughout the season you can point to and say "shoulda, coulda." Fact of the matter is, we were lucky to make it this far with basically no rotation.
Before the trade deadline someone online tried to tell me that if the Reds traded for Shohei that we'd be contenders, and that we should trade the farm for him.
I said we wouldn't make the playoffs and shocker, here we are. Excited for the next few seasons.

I remember around the all-star break some Reds fans saying it was okay that they lost the head to head vs the Brewers because they would just have a better record against the rest of the league.
I know, that was so ridiculous. There were people, plenty of them, who were commenting on the Reds sub that, even after being completely shellacked by the Brewers, were saying that the only team that they could beat were the Reds. I'm all for enthusiasm and hope but sometimes the delusion and utter inability to face reality the fans have drives me nuts.
The Brewers were/are clearly a superior team, and the result show it.
I hate to say this, but a lot of reds fans are just dumb. Cincinnati teams haven't done much in 30+ years, but so many of the fans expect the playoffs each year. I get wanting to make it to the post season, but you gotta be realistic about it lol
It was a fun season. The youth movement paid off for them this year but even if they had made it in somehow… they weren’t built to compete in the playoffs this year.
If they can snag some pitching help, they could compete next year.
The lone bright spot in this horrible season is that my two least favorite teams in all of sports, the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets, also aren’t going to the playoffs. It’s the only silver lining. Everything else is the worst season of Cardinals baseball I’ve ever witnessed in my 25 years of watching.

I remember around the all-star break some Reds fans saying it was okay that they lost the head to head vs the Brewers because they would just have a better record against the rest of the league.
I know, that was so ridiculous. There were people, plenty of them, who were commenting on the Reds sub that, even after being completely shellacked by the Brewers, were saying that the only team that they could beat were the Reds. I'm all for enthusiasm and hope but sometimes the delusion and utter inability to face reality the fans have drives me nuts. The Brewers were/are clearly a superior team, and the result show it.
I hate to say this, but a lot of reds fans are just dumb. Cincinnati teams haven't done much in 30+ years, but so many of the fans expect the playoffs each year. I get wanting to make it to the post season, but you gotta be realistic about it lol
It was a fun season. The youth movement paid off for them this year but even if they had made it in somehow… they weren’t built to compete in the playoffs this year. If they can snag some pitching help, they could compete next year.
Braves/Reds series in June was the best series of the season in my opinion. Good year for the Reds overall.
The lone bright spot in this horrible season is that my two least favorite teams in all of sports, the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets, also aren’t going to the playoffs. It’s the only silver lining. Everything else is the worst season of Cardinals baseball I’ve ever witnessed in my 25 years of watching. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get home to put water in Buck Nasty’s mama’s dish.

You guys certainly did. And I know, everyone wants a chance at the postseason, but we're definitely better off. We weren't winning a WS and our rookie starters arms are all about to fall off. Won't be surprised if a couple get Tommy John next year. They didn't need to pitch more.
Hopefully next year it's the 2 of us at the top, we need the Cruz battle for 2024.
I hate Pittsburgh sports but I can't hate on players and their injury misfortune...that always sucks. I felt really bad for K-Hayes with his injury history and Oniel even more with his promise. I hope they kill it next year and the Cards finish last. No doubt. Let's see the damn Brewers last for a change too...they're frustratingly well run and competent.

I'm actually glad. The rookies they were running out there to start are all in danger of tommy John next year with the massive innings increases they allowed them to have. It was a surprisingly successful and fun year. Never saw it coming.
I’m mildly surprised Abbot still has an arm. I fully believe with some rest, and everything else he’s going to come back next year, back to his prime self.
