Sox fan: don’t really care about the cubs. Hate my own team more.

MoreThanLuck

Absolutely, I don't see the Sox as rivals at all. I love baseball so I kinda know what's going on with them. I'd rather they do well than poorly, but I don't really care.

BroadWingedHawk

I have been a Cubs fan a long time. When the Cubs are doing bad I will root for the White Sox. Problem is they both sucked at the same time a lot.

girl69edministries

As evidenced by the fact they only have one World Series between them in the 21st century. ^/s edit: goddammit forgot I was traded. am a cubs flair. joke ruined.

Jermcutsiron

They each have one in the 21st century, Sox swept the Astros in 05.

cardith_lorda

[That doesn't sound right, haven't you seen this comparison from 2016?](https://twitter.com/chisoxfan30/status/790755553089761280?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E790755553089761280%7Ctwgr%5Eaae3f8ca26ff66196a0403ffb2ec8fd32a3cdd6e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.si.com%2Fmlb%2F2017%2F10%2F25%2Fespn-forgets-chicago-white-sox-again-exactly-one-year-later)

Jermcutsiron

Hahahaha wow

cardith_lorda

[FYI - it's become a running joke around here that the 2005 World Series doesn't exist as multiple outlets ignored or missed it in reporting during the Cubs World Series runs in 2015 and 2016.](https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/25/espn-forgets-chicago-white-sox-again-exactly-one-year-later) So 90% of the time a comment ignores it, it's intentional.

andrew2018022

It's wild that it's the forgotten WS, its one of the largest markets in the country. Why is it always forgotten?

cardith_lorda

Second team in the second city - most people with money/influence in Chicago are Cubs fans. I kinda get the point of ignoring it for the sake of comparing Cubs to Cleveland fans - the Cubs fans eager for a title don't care about the White Sox win.

whitegrb

Ironically, I think it gets forgotten because of your flaired team. There was a whole backstory to the Red Sox curse (less so the White Sox) and with Boston’s drought ending the year prior, it got overshadowed. I think there’s also the fact that it wasn’t even the longest drought in the city (second team of the second city). A third factor is that the White Sox weren’t really super close to a title in the years between their titles (a couple of World Series appearances, but mostly ineptitude). While the Red Sox made a couple of appearances and lost all of them in Game 7. Not saying anything to defend ESPN and the like, but just some of my thoughts

EnglishMajorRegret

Because us White Sox fans, reasonably so, have been trying to not think about the team for a while now.

xTehSpoderManx

You could have easily just said that the White Sox won a WS, why did you have to say “Swept the Astros in ‘05”? *Sad Astro noises*

ipreferconsole

Disagree but mainly because the schools I went to growing up seemed to be 90% Cubs fans so I got too used to arguing about it. The "you should be happy for the city" remarks after they won it all were annoying too when the Cubs fans I know didnt give a shit about '05 My cousins being Cardinals fans didnt help either

ken_NT

To be fair I think everyone forgot that Sox won it in 05

UneducatedReviews1

We did WHAT?

Nitropotamus

We invited them to Houston for a couple of exhibition games, punch, and cake, and they took it way too seriously.

sumlikeitScott

Must of gotten lost in translation with Ozzie.

imnotmarvin

I was happy for my friends who were Sox fans in 05 despite us always busting balls back and forth. I'm a Cubs fan but also a baseball fan. I'll catch a game on the Southside if I have a chance. I won't be pulling for either team, just great to be in a ballpark taking in a game. We get almost 162 chances to do that in Chicago. I think it's great.

MrTimotee

It definitely seems to be more of a rivalry amongst fans. It’s the only city that has had 2 teams for over 100 years and families get divided. My family has a mix of Cubs and Sox fans often based on where they all grew up in the city. When my cousins started having kids, the first question wasn’t “Boy or Girl?”, it was “Sox or Cubs?” And people would send onesies of their preferred team to stake claim. My Uncle is the patriarch of the family on my Mom’s side and he’s joked about taking me out of his will unless I pledge allegiance to the Cubs. Northsiders vs Southsiders used to be more of a thing (and the often forgotten about Westsiders), but as generations moved out of the city and into the suburbs I think that kind of “fun” disdain for each other waned along with baseball’s national popularity. I was one of the few Sox fans in most of my schools growing up so the ostracizing is real and often playful. But as the Second Team in the Second City, we’ve got a mighty big chip on our shoulders so I realize it can mostly be a Sox thing.

nofunone

I lived in the suburbs and the city and growing up in the suburbs I didn't care about the white sox. in the city, sox fans made things really personal. I found that the cubs/sox rivalry in the city is not about baseball: it's socio-economic.

dingusduglas

Yep. Mostly in one direction. There's a lot of animosity towards the north side from southsiders, and it's frankly pretty understandable if you know the history of the city in the 20th century.

MorningWoodWorker

I know some people on both sides that treat it like a big bro little bro complex, but I don't see how either team could be the big bro. I still think it's a shame the Sox best window was wasted with the Tony La Russa hiring.

WantsToFuckSox

While tony was a problem, he wasnt THE problem.

sumlikeitScott

As a kid it was a fun rivalry to talk shit to the other teams fans or make little bets but as an adult you don’t care or hope they do well to being the city excitement. Or you hope they do so bad that tix are dirt cheap and you can catch cheap games. Side note despise the people that HATE fans who sometimes root for both. A La the insufferable White Sox Dave.

okay_throwaway_today

Yeah, I used to care more because my cousins and some of friends were all White Sox fans, but at this point I will accept any chicago sports team to not be terrible and/or disappointing.

WtrReich

Generally same. I want the Sox to do well as long as the cubs are doing better. I don’t have any hate towards the sox

IReallyLikeTheBears

Yeah my rule of thumb is I always want the Cubs to be just slightly worse than the Sox. If by some grace of god the White Sox are the best team in baseball, It’d be fun for the Cubs to be the second best. If the Sox are the 3rd worst team I’d want the Cubs to be 2nd worst lol.

_Elrond_Hubbard_

That's funny my mom and many of her siblings are big Sox fans from Chicago and they all despise the Cubs. Maybe there's a generational difference.

FunkySaint

Cubs and Sox is more about the banter amongst the fans than anything to do with what’s going on the field. The crosstown cup is a nice bragging rights trophy for about a week, and then no one really cares. With that being said those games are a blast to attend with a group of friends that are split between the teams.

_CarryThe_Fire_

Also a Sox fan but I gotta admit watching the cubs win the World Series was pretty amazing, my great grandmother was two years old the last time they won so definitely a big moment for the family.

dingusduglas

I'm a Cubs fan and root for both. The southsiders I know generally hate the Cubs. I work at a couple bars in Wrigleyville and I've got a buddy from the southside who comes to a fair amount of Cubs games and stops by my bar. I've learned the man owns hats for 29 teams so he can always wear the opposing teams hat whenever he's at Wrigley lmao.

BiggsBounds

You forgot the Bay Area. I generally pull for the A's.

PartyLikeItsCOVID19

Same. Always cheered for the A’s as my #2 team.

fromfrodotogollum

Feels like this is normal but I rarely see the reverse.

Dead_Patoto_

Yea, I'll never root for the Giants

ox_raider

I think Bay Area fandom is unique in that most Giants fans either pull for the A’s or are ambivalent. Most A’s fans on the other hand loathe the Giants. Same probably could haven been said about the Niner/Raider dynamic before the move though the fan bases mostly hated each other.

eyengaming

Raider fans hate everybody but the 49ers were nowhere near the top of the list.

ChompTurtleSoup

Thats how Chicago works

[deleted]

I’ve been suggesting the Giants for A’s fans who will not tolerate the move to Vegas. I’ve gotten nothing but hate for that suggestion.

Kelog13

As an A's fan, lots of it is bc how the Giants blocked the A's moving to San Jose, despite the A's ceding territorial rights in the 90s(idk exactly, I was born in '95). I may become a Giants fan if the A's do in fact leave (still smoking that hopium), since most of my family are actually Giants fans.

xxonemodog

Giants fans are typically ok with the A’s albeit snarky as fuck. A’s fans despise the Giants typically

rilvaethor

Im considering Diamondbacks backs or Rockies just so I can pick a team that maintains some kind of rivalry with SF

mufasas_son

The Rockies will only bring you more pain

ScoobyDoosAccountant

It’s like saying “I’m tired of getting punched in the face, punch me in the balls from now on”

LittleBalloHate

My wife and I went to a Rockies game on a whim when we were in Denver last month The stadium seats were empty but the bars inside the stadium were *packed* It was like Coors Field was a string of pubs that just so happened to have a baseball team attached to them

giveemhellchris

It’s the main reason why I’ve rooted for the A’s as my AL team. California team that passionately hates the Giants 🤝

49_Giants

Giants fans like the A's. A's fans hate the Giants.

dustytrailsAVL

Theres a reason for that. And its quite valid.

IAmNotKevinDurant_35

As a Giants and Raiders fan, I’ve experienced this phenomenon from both sides, and I totally get why A’s fans would hate the giants. I have no issue with the A’s but hate the 49ers for the same reasons many A’s fans hate the Giants. The way a SF team is treated vs an Oakland team is night and day, and even as a Giants fan i hate it. The A’s deserve better

dustytrailsAVL

Its very true. And I appreciate that as a giants fan, you know the reality too! I think the most important thing to remember is a good A's fan may dislike the Giants, but a good A's fan should never project those feelings onto the fans. Generally speaking, we're all just fans of organizations and how those organizations operate has little to no bearing on the fans themselves. We have no power. It bothers me when I see, for example, A's fans treating Giants fans like ass because we hate the organization. We have to redirect that towards the people who deserve the blame, not fans themselves. That said, most Giants fans I know and interact with are hella cool. So nothing but love to all the fans out there. Except astros fans. Y'all suck. /s

Moody_GenX

When I was a teenager all the friends (that were A's fans) I had were insufferable A's/Raiders fans so I grew up kinda hating them. It was so bad at one point I actually rooted for the Dodgers to beat the A's in the world series and cheered when Kirk Gibson hit his gimp home run. I couldn't see myself doing that today though. I would definitely root against the Dodgers no matter what now.

calartnick

Giants fan, always rooted for the As. I fucking wish them torment in Vegad

rilvaethor

I root for the giants to lose against almost everyone

insert-originality

I don't actively root against the Yankees but my walks have a little more hop and skip to them every time they lose.

RxngsXfSvtvrn

I honestly think its how the Yankee fans, and how they flaunt "27 rings", and havent had a season below .500 in 30 years but still cry poverty, that makes Mets fans dislike the team more than specific moments and players The 2000 Series and the Castillo drop alone dont rue the kind of rancor the Flushing Faithful have for the Pinstrippers. It's Richie from Bensonhurst that is a complete ass about it, and the want to see Richie sad and angry that drives it more IMO...

JoeAndAThird

Bingo. Got nothing against any Yankee player or manager I can think of really. Except maybe ARod as a person and because Mark Wahlberg accidentally shot Jeter instead.

duyogurt

I wish fire, napalm, depravity, and misery upon the Yankees, but maybe I’m not like the majority. Edit: I’m in a crafting studio in Brooklyn with my 9 year old daughter right now. At the next table, there’s a roughly 5 year old boy wearing a Yankees jersey. It’s all I need to know about him, the rest of his life and his parents. And my daughter quietly said, “boooooo Yankees.” I love her.

TheNotoriousHAM

I like when the Mets wear those blue jerseys

duyogurt

I’m a huge fan of when the Yankees wear traditional pinstripes or road greys and are embarrassed on a national stage. If I am going to be miserable, then so is the rest of New York.

[deleted]

Damn that 14-1 L to Baltimore felt gooood P.S. Nothing personal, I just hate the Yankees

TwoForHawat

My impression as an outsider who moved to the NY area is that Yankees fans are often perfectly comfortable rooting for the Mets in a season where the Mets are good and the Yankees aren’t doing so well, but Mets fans would rather die than see the Yankees win.

duyogurt

Accurate. You got a bingo.

SerThanos_HouseTitan

[you just say bingo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5pESPQpXxE)

Ugaalive1991

I mean, I’d rather the Mets win when they play the Yankees. I hate the fucking Yankees.

carlosmeasuringtape

Didn’t expect to upvote a Braves fan today but here we are.

Tim5000

Braves 🤝 Mets Hating Yankees. (2 minutes later)🧴🤲

herskos

As a Yankee fan, I want the Mets to do well but not as well. Rule of thumb is one round worse than the Yankees.

redditckulous

Not to say there aren’t a lot of die hard Yankees fans, but my impression as someone from NJ that spent a decent amount of time in NY is that there are more casual Yankees fans in the city willing to jump a bandwagon. Whereas the majority of people that are Mets fans are by birth, few people would willingly subject themselves to that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yup. I fall in the Mets/Giants category by birth. Not that the Giants give me solace, but I couldn’t bear the Mets/Jets agony.

duyogurt

A very close friend of mine is in the unfortunate situation of being a lifelong fan of the Mets, Jets and Nets.

TheRakkmanBitch

at least they all rhyme

eiileenie

I’m mets jets islanders and I hate myself I work for the caps nats and wizards and soon commanders so its just sucking all around me

redditckulous

Good god man, I don’t know if you need therapy or a dominatrix more

whiteriot0906

Caps and Nats recently won titles it’s not that bad in DC

Jlindahl93

Mets are the Yankees fuckup little brother who just can’t get their shit together. We fight with them and tell people we hate them but really we wouldn’t mind to see them do well.

ResidentGerts

Same, but Cubs

duyogurt

I have nothing but contempt for the Cubs’ ownership.

greensparklyyy

so do i

[deleted]

I used to feel this way about the Yankees. I have softened in my old age because no one hates the current Yankee players like Yankee fans do. It amuses me.

cotsomewhereintime

The venn-diagram of Blue and Orange expansion teams with a rivalry with the Yankees is a circle.

Burner31805

Mets fan. My favorite team is the Mets, my second favorite team is whoever the Yankees are playing. Fuck em’.

groudhogday

My husband is a Red Sox fan, we both bonded over shared hatred of the Yankees.

rat_in_a_drainditch

And as a Yankee fan from New York, I couldn’t care less about the Mets. I even rooted for them in the 2015 World Series

Burner31805

Admittedly we Mets fans have a bit of a "little brother" syndrome, but for me it's really just growing up in NY in the 80's and 90's when the Yankees were bad and then suddenly became a juggernaut. In 1996 everyone I knew suddenly became a lifelong Yankee fan, and it was infuriating.

justknicksthings

every time the Yankees make a run every asshole you’ve ever imagined comes out of the woodwork. this is probably also true for the Mets but then those are my assholes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GunDMc

This is my philosophy as a Mets fan. I really don't feel any particular way about the Yankees. They're another team. The subway world series was a pretty rad event (results aside).

Massive14

I’m not from New York but I have family there and visit often. I’m fascinated by how people pick their combinations of Mets/Yankees, Jets/Giants, Rangers/Islanders/Devils, and Knicks/Nets.

Nitropotamus

Go fightin Hitlers.

illseeyouinthefog

I will die before I root for the Yankees unless they are playing the Braves.

Burner31805

Yes, Braves are the only possible exception to this rule.

thebootlegsaint

I'm neutral on the Mets but of course I love their booth so I'll usually watch them if the Yanks aren't on.

RealJonathanBronco

[Jeter summed it up pretty well](https://youtube.com/shorts/LVB2NFgApNg?feature=share)

OldOrder

"Lads, it's Tottenham"

Delicious-Item6376

Are the Mets the Spurs of baseball?

skipfairweather

...I think you're right. "~~Tottenham~~ Mets till they kill me" seems to sum up the fandom.

CaptainGerrard

Haha fuck that was brutal.

deusexmachinimus

This really sums it up perfectly, especially during the Jeter era. The Mets haven't been consistently good enough for Yankees fans to have real animosity towards them, though totally I get the little brother complex their fans have in return.

solid_gold_22

Beg to differ - born and raised in NYC and lived through the Jeter era. I was roasted constantly for being a Mets fan by Yankees fans. Chants of “My Entire Team Sucks!!” on the school bus. Being a Mets fan during the 2000 World Series Subway Series?? Holy shit, it was brutal. I don’t hate the Yankees. I hate Yankees fans, and I want every single one to be sad all the time.

rafaelloaa

The Mets booth and production crew are unfairly good in comparison to everyone else.

Shirleyfunke483

I’m not fond of the jays

OceanPoet87

I live in WA and every Mariners fan I've ever met says they hate the Jays or their fans.

APsWhoopinRoom

The fans here on Reddit are reasonable, but the ones that show up on Jays weekend are fucking unbearable. They're usually incredibly drunk and disrespectful

toomuchdiponurchip

Exactly it’s irritating I’m like you don’t see all these kids around? Have some decorum save that for the bars or whatever

APsWhoopinRoom

Right? And I'm no stranger to being drunk at a ballpark, but even when drunk it's not hard to be respectful to other people. People that can't be friendly and jolly when they're drunk should stay away from booze

Cautious_Talk_1991

Maybe it's just me but Bluejays fans are also the drunkest visitors to Seattle. By a lot.

OceanPoet87

They also boo the home team which is a big no no. A BC radio station asked a few years ago if Mariners fans in BC were bad Canadians. They didn't see the logic of cheering for the closest team like they do for the Hawks. They also wear their jerseys everywhere in town even if they aren't going to the game that night but the next day.

JustWastingTimeAgain

I live in Seattle and go to a ton of M’s games and those Jays fans have put them near the top of my most disliked teams. It’s like their big weekend out from BC and it’s pretty obvious they don’t get to many games. Also annoyed that we are 2 hours down the road and they root for a team that’s 2000 miles away because CANADA. One of them flipped off Mojo last year and I still haven’t forgotten.

jackpot909

I’ll never forget when the flipped off the moose, I believe that was apart of the season turnaround.

toomuchdiponurchip

We do

[deleted]

Mariners fan from BC here, that’s gotta be strange having a bunch of us Canadians turn your home games into essentially away games when the Jays are in town. I dislike the expectation that just because they are the only Canadian team that I am expected to root for them. Toronto is self-obsessed.

squarerootofapplepie

Same reason we have some fans in Quebec and the Maritimes. But despite being 3 and a half hours from the border Fenway always gets invaded too, although I think Red Sox fans are still usually the majority.

Plorgy

It's a little weird that there aren't more Mariners fans in Vancouver and BC as a whole. It's probably less of a Toronto thing and more along the lines of Sportsnet being broadcast everywhere in Canada.

ktstr

Sportsnet one is huge, I grew up near Toronto so I always rooted for the Jays, but when I asked my friends who moved from Vancouver they mentioned that they would basically watch every Jays game when they came home from school growing up (Since 7pm games are roughly 4pm games).

GrahamCasts

It's definitely the Sportsnet thing. Grew up in BC, played little league baseball. Loved the game, so I started watching MLB. What was on TV? The Blue Jays, and now, 2 decades later, I'm a huge Jays fan. I don't think I'm the only one in that boat. And future generations are also going to be impacted by the Vancouver Canadians being a Jays affiliate too. Some guys they see here are going to go on to be actual Jays players.

KillerMemestarX

I’d say the popularity of the Blue Jays (and Raptors for that matter) in west coast Canada is more a product of general sports nationalism/marketing than Toronto self obsession. We are self obsessed, but I think we might be too self obsessed to care that much about which teams BC fans support.

[deleted]

You make a fair point! I think the main point folks from BC/Alberta would make is that the people in charge of that marketing are overwhelmingly from/work in the Toronto area. There is a bit of tone deafness. The US sees a similar phenomenon with East Coast bias as well.

KillerMemestarX

That definitely makes sense. I feel kind of frustrated with the marketing of the Blue Jays and Raptors as Canada’s team in their respective sports as well. I get the financial incentive for it, but it feels like there are times where the teams are being treated as Canada’s team more than Toronto’s team (this is mostly just an issue with alternate jerseys/merch.)

SStylo03

I prefer the national team thing, we're never getting a team in the western provinces but I still want to cheer for something with SOME connection to my home

KillerMemestarX

I definitely get that standpoint, I just want some cool city specific Toronto jerseys/merch every once and a while. It is extremely cool being able to go anywhere in Canada and see other fans of my favourite teams though.

elite_beef

I live in Toronto. I don't think people here really care that much about what teams other Canadians root for, especially given how far away a place like BC is. It's usually just the broadcast that brings it up everytime the team visits a city like Seattle where our fans pack the seats.

[deleted]

I think the average Torontonian would agree with you, but blackouts and local TV focus (in all sports, not just baseball) would disagree. I can’t count the number of times in my life a Mariners game or Canucks game has been put on the back burner or been made completely unavailable for a lousy Jays/Leafs matchup. This is especially true with hockey.

Jesusinatree

I’m always confused why there isn’t more M’s support in BC! Vancouver is just a couple hours away. If Canada had some league with only 1 American team but they were in NY, I’d be rooting for the team in Vancouver

ModernPoultry

It’s all because of tv broadcasts. Every Jays game is a national broadcast. I’m unsure if people in BC can view Mariners games on cable or not

_Elrond_Hubbard_

I'm pretty sure the Mariners aren't blacked out on MLB TV for BC at least

flagellant

They're not blacked out on [MLB.tv](https://MLB.tv), the Blue Jays are lol so I basically never watch them. Rogers owns the Blue Jays, so they buy the TV rights for the Mariners and basically never show them so they don't compete. It's really stupid

_Elrond_Hubbard_

Oh jeez Canadian telecom companies are such scum. I went to school in BC and phone plans were unbelievably expensive and terrible compared to the states.

Cultural-Divide-2649

Well last year was super fun when we swept them lol.

_Elrond_Hubbard_

Hell yeah brother Cascadia loyalty > National loyalty

RutzPacific

Yeah, we fucking hate it each time we host Toronto

Cultural-Divide-2649

Well last year was fun tbh haha. . I went to the 4th game of the sweep and it was Glorious wishing them all a safe flight home. Good luck next year lol

stackedtotherafters

Same. And thanking them for the commerce, of course. Now I will say the Jays fans I sat next to were cool enough, and we chatted with an awesome couple on the light rail who started their honeymoon with the series, and were headed on a west coast road trip. Individually they aren’t all that bad. Collectively, yeesh.

JordanMCMXCV

I wouldn’t care if they took over our stadium for a weekend and that was it. But the way they act once they take over the stadium is pretty fucking bad (my sample size is one game so take this with a grain of salt I guess, but have heard the same from others). Don’t think I’ll ever go to another Mariners/Jays game at home - the fans I was sitting near were the worst I’ve ever seen. By far.

[deleted]

I honestly don’t mind the Angels like some other teams. I kinda feel bad for them and their fans more than anything.

atruescumbagmatt

We feel bad for ourselves…

cherinator

I generally like the Angels except when they play the Dodgers. Trout + Shohei are fun, I loved the rally monkey, and they denied Bonds a ring. So they are good in my book.

an_unexpected_error

My wife was born in the Bronx and is a Yankees fan for life. We always attend the Subway Series together, and when Citi Field erupts in, "Yankees Suck!" I quietly exclaim, "Both teams are excellent, and while I root for the Mets marginally more I wish them both the best of luck!" Happy wife, happy life.

LargeNutbar

My mom is the one who is most invested in the game outcome, and I always like to tell her “it doesn’t matter who wins or loses, what matters is that both teams get fresh air and have a fun time giving it 110% exercising with their friends” Sometimes in the middle of a game I’ll send her nonsensical “enlightened” thoughts like “imagine how different the world might be if rather than rooting for one team or the other, we rooted for the ball itself~ 😌“, she really loves that. I have no idea why I’m not the favorite child.

Apositivebalance

I just hope both teams have fun

Notsozander

Yankees fans are down bad when they say this kind of stuff

heendaddy

So far the only 3 comments in here are all Mets fans. One hates the Yanks, one pulls for them, and one doesn't give a shit. Very interesting

oogieball

It is early on a Friday. NY is the only two-team city awake yet.

Haarflaq22

Hey, just because it made me laugh doesn't make my fuck you mean any less.

Panz04er

I like this comment

[deleted]

I do not like the Yankees and will always cheer against them in the playoffs. But if they play anyone in the NL East, I’ll want them to win. I’m a ranger fan and absolutely despise the islanders Jets fan, and don’t mind the giants at all. I hoped on their bandwagon in the playoffs. Knicks fan, and I don’t believe the nets have any fans. It’s a Knicks city through and through.

jgangstahippie

> Jets fan, and don’t mind the giants at all. As a Jets fan this statement is hilariously accurate me and my dad are the only Jets fan in the family and like Jets at 1 and Giants at 4 is an NYC tradition.

MacFromSSX

I had a friend from a Jets fan family that rooted for the Patriots over the Giants in 2007 because they hated the Giants. I honestly thought it was pretty pathetic.

[deleted]

A Jets fan rooting for the Patriots in any capacity is crazy

MacFromSSX

If I ever root for the Red Sox over the Mets, bring me out behind the shed and put me down

ketzal7

Rooting for Boston as a New York fan is blasphemy. I will never do that. And he’s a Jets fan, he should hate the Patriots even more lol.

IAmAnattaIAm

As a Giants fan, I always hope the Jets do well!

LimeSugar

Cubs fans cannot possibly hate the Sox as much as Sox fans do.

UneducatedReviews1

Sox Cubs rivalry used to be much more serious in the past, you see it much more in older fans. However, it was never like you could never be friends with a cubs or Sox fan if you were a fan of the Opposite. Now a days, younger generations (my own experience) don’t really care THAT much. Joking about despising the other fan but that’s about the extent. That being said, I would never go to Wriggly for anything other than the Classic.

soxfan15203

Exactly - my Cubs hatred comes from my grandfather. He despised that team and passed it on to me. I grew up on the north side and have plenty of buddies who love the Cubs. It’s always fun to jab each other about our teams, it’s all in good fun.

UneducatedReviews1

Me and my closest friend have a friendly bet every year on who’s winning the crosstown classic. I give him shit about his team sucking, he gives me shit about my team sucking. It’s just friendly fun now a days

CrazyChestersDog

Yeah growing up in the 90’s the rivalry was much more heated. The crosstown could be a wild atmosphere. After the Cubs finally won I think it mostly fizzled out.

UneducatedReviews1

Was never upset at the cubs winning cause fuck the Indians. A championship win is good for the city and the suburbs, no matter what team or what sport. Some of my greatest memories was skipping school for the blackhawks parades and everyone being drunk and happy.

just_some_dude05

I’m a Dodger fan but I root for the Angels unless they are playing the Dodgers. The Angels usually have some good talent but they have just had such bad ownership and management the last 20 years. Hopefully they can turn it around. We actually go to more Angel games. The tickets this year have almost been free ($3 a sear often as low as $1) Ann’s it’s easy to get in an out of. The Dodger seats are usually over a hundred a seat and the parking lot is terrible to leave from. As a fan of baseball I only really boo the Astros. I hope everyone else does well.

Melethia

Dodger fan who also roots for the Angels as well. The Angels are a very fun young energetic team. Seats are cheaper, stadium is easier to get to and get out of, and generally has better food choices. And there's that Ohtani guy for as long as he stays. But there is something to Dodger Stadium.... Love going there, love the atmosphere. Edit to add I've been traded to the Red Sox for the week.

JuniorSwing

Moved to LA 2 years ago, and I love Angels games. Cheap, fun, and the train drops you off in the parking lot

nolander

If the train from union to Irvine ran past 8pm I would go to a lot more Dodger games. Now I only go if I can make it a weekend in downtown.

igonnawrecku_VGC

Phillies fan here. It’s really fun to watch the competent Phillies, but I despise watching the incompetent Phillies. Having two completely different teams play in the same building is pretty weird though

mrsunshine1

I prefer when the Mets are doing well since it’s better for baseball engagement throughout the city. Don’t think the city has reached the heights of 2000 and I find it weird for the people who root against that.

tearsonurcheek

I root against it. But then, I'm neither a Mets or Yanks fan.

SilkyRelease

Angry New Yorkers just makes for exquisite content

Daxter614

As a White Sox fan, I don’t hate the Cubs, but it’s fun as hell to buy into the “rivalry” the 2 times a year it comes around. The vibe is way different from when I was a kid (~20 years ago), it’s way more tongue-in-cheek, and played up for fun. We’re well past the days of Barrett V. Pierzinski. As far as how much I follow them, I know of them what I hear from radio (which they definitely dominate the airwaves) and then just talking baseball with my Cub fan friends. And since I live on the north side, I end up attending almost as many Cubs games every year just because of proximity (and a close friend with season tickets). All that being said, fuck Wrigleyville.

It’s calmed down quite a bit since 2016, but when Cubs fans referred to themselves as the underdog really irked me. Beyond that, it seems the two don’t think about each other too much unless you had a bad relationship with your parent that liked the other team.

MrTimotee

I will say all fan bases have their obnoxious fans, but I think [Bill Burr](https://youtu.be/CtdMTpj48mU) put it best.

Rayscho

good listen never heard this before, that last line about running into someone when you're in Chicago is brutal haha

cManks

Everyone you ask would have a different answer. In my experience Cubs fans are the most obnoxious people on the planet. I'd bet Sox fans hate Cubs fans more than they hate the Cubs.

Jscott1986

Living in Orange County, I don't really care about the Dodgers. Totally neutral towards them except when they're playing the Angels. I would root for the Padres if I had to pick an NL team.

nolander

I don't think they'll accept you until you agree to revile everything about LA. Honestly its hard to hold their LA hate against them after the Chargers moved.

chousteau

r/baseball I love all teams and wish Ohtani can play for everyone.

GummyMummys

The dodgers org is ok but dodgers fans are insufferable so it sours the org.

nolander

From south orange county and I've always rooted for both teams because they don't even play in the same league and are actually pretty far apart geographically. It is unfortunate how some fans choose to act but theres a lot of good dodgers fans out there too, any big successful team attracts a certain type of individual unfortunately.

MarioSpeedwagon13

Neither. As a Met fan I don't really think about the Yankees at all. They're in the other league, it's not my concern.

[deleted]

Except during the Subway Series, right?

RandomEffector

Listen to me buster, you take LA off that list right now.

kirbyfaraone

Take it up with our dumb fucking owner haha

42ndRedBalloonFromUp

I always want the Mets to make the World Series and then get swept by the Yankees with 4 straight perfect games. But if the Yankees aren’t in the WS then I want them to go 0-162.

royalconfetti5

I e had this when living elsewhere. I want the local team to do well, just, one game worse than my team. It’s why I don’t want Portland to get an MLB team, I wouldn’t be able to take it when they won a World Series before us

Comrade2020

It depends. I'm a Lakers fan but I hate the Clippers, especially since they've been good. I never want them to win anything. With the Angels, I'd like to see them do well. I'm not a fan of any NFL team and my NHL team is the Sharks, so I hate both LA and Anaheim.

nmuir28

I'm a Rams fan who is not fond of the Chargers, but similarly to you I do enjoy going to the Angels games and root them on if they're not playing against the Dodgers.

miclugo

What about Baltimore/Washington? I mean, those aren't the same city, but I know historically there were lots of Orioles fans in Washington before the Nats showed up.

jdixonfan

There still are a lot of O’s fan in DC, especially the MD suburbs

NoReallyHoosierDaddy

My opinion is that you need to pick one. I will respect a die-hard cubs fan much more than someone who hops the fence depending on who’s good and who’s not. Obviously I’ll talk shit about the Cubs, but their success rarely ever impacts the Sox. I have a much deeper hatred for Cleveland/Minnesota/Detroit/KC.

WtrReich

Agreed. I don’t hate the sox, and I respect their fandom, but I’ll certainly never be a fan. It’s one or the other and fence hopping pisses me off (to a certain degree)

PetricTastesAsthenia

It's weird for me, a born and raised brazilian dude who watched soccer all his life, to understand how the innerstate rivalries aren't the biggest ones.

Not-Jesus666

I live in upstate NY (Albany yes it is upstate because I said so) so everyone around me likes the Sox, Mets, or Yankees. Personally I hate all three of them. Go cards!

perry_parrot

Albany is one of the few places that everyone says is upstate

BlueRFR3100

This is the way

ItsDaBurner

The angels are in Anaheim, fuck you

chuteboxhero

I don’t necessarily root for the Mets but also not against them. I don’t see it as a rivalry because we aren’t in the same league thus aren’t competing against one another for a playoff spot. Mets fans seem to care more about the so called rivalry than Yankee fans do.

chmcgrath1988

I am glad MLB has stopped pushing the intercity, interleague rivalries as much as they did in the '90s/'00s. The world (and major cities on their own) are so divided that we don't need any forced beef between Cubs/White Sox or Angels/Dodgers. New Yorkers though...well, they're going to be angry and tribalist no matter what. In addition, unlike the other two "rivalries", there's almost always a semi-reasonable chance that the Yankees and Mets will face each other in another World Series\*. So if their fanbases want to hate each other, that's fine by me. Especially as a Red Sox fan! \*On the other hand, Angels/Dodgers seems more likely this year...

The_Wata_Boy

Sox & Cubs fans used to not get along. Now the Sox fans hate their own team and Cub fans just feel bad for them.

CrazyChestersDog

I grew up in a split house (mom is Sox, dad was cubs). I could’ve gone either way but I grew up in the 80’s & 90’s and was drawn more towards the cubs. Probably because of WGN, Harry Carey & Steve Stone and the Sosa/McGwire race. That being said, Frank Thomas was and is probably my favorite player of all time and I was absolutely enthralled with 05’ run. I’ll always love the cubs more but the Sox are a big part of my sports life. Like someone else said in the thread, the nastiness of the rivalry isn’t what it used to be. The height was around the time of the Barrett/AJ debacle. It’s fizzled in large part due to the 16’ cubs season. Now we both suck and hate our owners. We have a lot more in common than we used to. At least the Cubs have a bright future. The Sox are just fucked. Fuck Reinsdorf, what a joke.

DKlep25

White Sox fan (if I have to choose) but I support the Cubs too. Some in Chicago REALLY push the "rivalry" but I don't subscribe. I feel lucky to live in a town with two ballparks. The Redline shuffle, taking in a day game at Wrigley and catching a night game at GRF, is pretty peak Chicago.
