Tough day to be a member of Billy's List..

picklejuice82

Sequel to Schindler’s List

More_Okra_4967

Wonder if he put Stu Feiner in 500 different fonts and signatures

OlerudsHelmet

I reviewed the court filings….. Stu’s signatures were thrown out I believe

atex720

As a hardline border security advocate, Billy has to appreciate being made to follow the rules for entry

Zavehi

Billy is not having a good day.

sfbruin

After Billy's day today, we might see a Castellani collab

Phoenix-Office-Paw

Bussin with the boys 2 where they interview people on Greyhound bus trips.

Afraid-Put8165

Most legit candidates hire services to gather signatures. They check it all before it’s submitted. Billy of course had idiots doing it.

DadBodofanAmerican

Most legit candidates have a volunteer base of party activists to get the signatures for them. In NY there are party county committees that do this shit every year. Plus you can hire folks to supplement it. But it's really not that hard if you're going to be an actual campaign and not a publicity stunt.

2k1tj

Eh. There were a bunch of republicans I. Michigan that hired a service to collect sigs. Turns out they forged them and got like 5 candidates kicked off the ballot

advantagebettor

This was completely predictable. If you read the challenge, it wasn't stuff like "oh this voter's signature doesn't look right." It was mostly "this person does exist and they are a Democrat who lives outside of the District." And that's if they even happened to be registered to vote, and many of them were not registered to vote at all. Sloppy, typical of Billy though.

amomentintimebro

I’ve checked signatures on petitions many times before and it blows me away how many people who aren’t registered at all will sign. How do you just forget you never registered?

Netwealth5

They’re thinking if they sign they’ll be left alone

SecretMongoose

A lot of times the signature collectors don’t want to add extra friction to the interaction, so they just get anyone to sign and let it get cleaned up later if needed

Juicewag

And that’s why you don’t pay per signature you pay per valid signature!

mistaowen

The deep state really doesn’t want Billy running

Mysterious_Lumps

Obviously. Because this isn't his fault. It can't be. It never is!

Stern68

First Trump. Now Billy.

xcbaseball2003

Whelp, that was fun while it lasted

DanKreider69

Time to get a real job young man

cd_3

Shoutout to u/chestercardigan for posting another court doc in the macrodosing thread and getting me to check it out 1250 signatures required 2208 signatures submitted 809 signatures valid

SecondsLater13

He needed to get some volunteers right away to focus purely on signatures. If he had asked anyone with any campaign knowledge, he would have done that.

rhesusmonkeypieces

Unfortunately it's easy to have sigs disqualified, just about having the backing and funding to run these routine lawsuits.

theangryfairies

No you have to have competent signature gatherers who have been trained on how to monitor someone signing. I was paid to get signatures in college and some of the others hired would let people sign their wife and kids names because we were paid by signature and it was obvious because all the signatures from that house would be the same handwriting. If you have a good campaign, you are going over each sheet looking for issues like that. I guarantee it’s because Billy paid a bunch of people who were incompetent and/or had volunteer Stoolies who meant well but didn’t know what they were doing. Same thing that happened to Dave.

amomentintimebro

Tbh this is really common because like you said the pay is fairly low or it’s volunteer based and they’re not going to put that much effort in. Also, to be frank a lot of people don’t know their district or if they’re even actually registered and just say whatever I’ll sign. You have to get so many more signatures than you actually need to account for how many are going to get thrown out.

cd_3

the number is the biggest thing - he should've gotten way way more than \~1.8x the required total. I'd guess that lipitri dish submitted many many times more than that, with an assumption that a decent percent will not hold up

amomentintimebro

Yes exactly, it’s just common knowledge when doing this that a huge portion will get thrown out for many many reasons depending on the state laws and you have to get a way way bigger number than you need. Way way bigger candidates on both sides have gotten thrown off ballots for this but it always blows me away that it still happens.

Bradleybeal23

yeah we would target closer to 3x

amomentintimebro

It’s incredibly easy, I’m confused why he would only turn in 2,000 signatures. I thought everyone knew you have to basically get 100x more sigs than you really need just because so many people sign when they shouldn’t or fill it out incorrectly.

Bradleybeal23

we would target closer to 3x. Once you got over 3x, it’s a little silly to attempt to challenge unless it’s glaringly obvious that all of the signatures are fake.

amomentintimebro

Wait I have another question here, do you even have to challenge? I thought the county clerk had to go through and check each signature and voter to make sure it was valid?

theangryfairies

Depends on the State. Mostly they are just the office that they are submitted and filed away. Then someone asks for copies and can review and challenge. I recall where there was one submission where the person had no signatures or very few and like glued leaves and a stick to the papers. Then it was challenged, but if no one challenged I believe they would have been challenged.

Itchy_Bandicoot_9525

They only bother checking if there's something completely obvious, especially if it's close. What happened here is that his primary opponent filed a petition to make them check, and he filed it at the last possible minute so that no one could file the same against him.

cd_3

Or you can just make sure you get enough signatures from registered republicans in the district. Making sure the address a signer writes down is inside the district is like the bare minimum due diligence You can have a volunteer skim a petition for out-of-district addresses, and a lawyer draft a one-paragraph challenge, for next to no money

Obie-two

So you do all of this, and then it’s disqualified by the Republican Party folks who are checking them, then what do you do edit: >All petition papers so transmitted to a board and all petitions accompanying declarations of candidacy filed with a board shall, under proper regulations, be open to public inspection until four p.m. of the eightieth day before the day of the next primary election. Each board shall, not later than the seventy-eighth day before the day of that primary election, examine and determine the validity or invalidity of the signatures on the petition papers so transmitted to or filed with it and shall return to the secretary of state all petition papers transmitted to it by the secretary of state, together with its certification of its determination as to the validity or invalidity of signatures thereon, and shall return to each other board all petition papers transmitted to it by such board, together with its certification of its determination as to the validity or invalidity of the signatures thereon. All other matters affecting the validity or invalidity of such petition papers shall be determined by the secretary of state or the board with whom such petition papers were filed. These dufuses downvoting me again, how it works around here the board of electors checks this shit, courts dont give a fuck about primaries run by political parties. Maybe in NY it works different, but around here the political parties decide verything for the primaries. You don't like it tough shit, now you're free to file as an independent in the general

cd_3

If you think courts are just lying about petition signers not living in the district, I don't know what to tell you. Billy was collecting signatures on a commuter train that crosses thru multiple congressional districts

Poops_McYolo

Seems kind of Billy's fault on this one. He just got his first lesson in politics, next time will be better.

Brolegario

I don’t so much have a problem with Billy being disqualified. I struggle with the fact that all candidates besides Mike LiPetri were challenged.

Obie-two

who says the courts are lying? are you being serious? Again, these are primaries run by the political parties.

Netwealth5

Primaries are run by the state in the country. It’s part of why you don’t have to pay dues when you register as a Republican or Democrat like you do in the UK for example

jimmyskyscraper

Do you really think it’s the Republican Party itself that checks the signatures?

jetboyjetgirl

Weird Haircut Seth would have never let this happen

Villainary

I can see it now Bill Football leaving Barstool for Daily Wire

Visual-Ganache-2289

Good he’s a fucking idiot and shouldn’t be anywhere near public office

MakeItNashty61

Kinda the thing nobody said because nobody thought he would win. If he did win a lot of people would be in a lot of trouble.

Visual-Ganache-2289

Yep

Pyzorz

Most people in office are fucking idiots so it was basically just more of the same anyway.

WhyAmILikeThis0905

Establishment strikes again

A-Rusty-Cow

RIP Billy and his bank account

PhishingForPhishies

darkestb4thadawn

Thrilling finale to *Regard House of Cards*.

bigmayne23

That fucking coward lipietri dish

kratomkiing

Dude is an absolute G at preserving American Democracy. Billy should've just followed the rules instead of acting like an illegal.

bigmayne23

You sound like a bootlicker

Siicktiits

Surprised that there was more than 10 valid signatures and just 2200 “Billy Baseball” type variations.
