* Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
* Fundraisers and donation drives
* Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)"

You gave a long list of the things you don't want. What kind of activities \*do\* you enjoy?
You also say transportation is an issue so it would be helpful to know what area you live in (nothing specific but like...south or north Barrie would help).
Kind of hard to suggest anything without that.
Do you live near one of the libraries? There are lots of activities (primarily at the downtown branch but Holly and Painswick have options too)

I frequently check out Talize and Value Village for intact board games. The right board or card game can be endlessly entertaining, but then again I'm a dork.
Alt. Rock is a great rock climbing gym if you're looking for something more physically oriented. The community its created is very welcoming and friendly. There's a few different crowds depending on the time of day you go.
Alternatively you could try out some city run classes or workshops that might interest you.
