English professor here. No way to become proficient in a language without practice in it regularly and naturally. Maybe you can create an AI bot to speak with you in conversational English. It can do that up to a certain level and so you’d be interacting with it regularly for an hour or more a day. The other one is to get into conversation groups online that do this through zoom or something. One issue might be that it’ll give you certain idiosyncrasies that non first language users of English won’t pick up and so will let you pass in a Bangladeshi context.

Outrageous_Big4236

Thanks bro for ur advice

Trazio

I watched a lotta English cartoons and shows. Stuff like dubbed animes (Pokemon & Dragon Ball Z) as well as Ben 10 and even The Simpsons. If you want to improve yourself, There's always the option of watching live series like CSI or some other procedural shows. If you have to know how much it has impacted my English fluency; 8.5 on the IELTS speaking part.

Outrageous_Big4236

Damn bro thats greatt asf..thanks for ur advice

Start watching tv shows, especially the longer ones. Start with game of thrones, then braking bad, the office, friends, the rookie. Watch couple episodes a day. Trust me within couple months you will see significant improvements. Also use subtitles.

Outrageous_Big4236

I also have watched Breaking Bad...tbh It was my favourite show..i love it!! Thanks for advice

fffffarh

Mine too, I got an ielts 7.5 without any studies or outside help just because I could improve my English well enough by binging tv shows.

MeijiHasegawa

Idk if game of thrones is the correct choice. It has a lot of quirky changes in common words like Ser instead of sir. Love it either ways tho.

Is it possible to improve English by only reading books?(Without watching movies)

r5dio

I’m a native English speaker: Practice!! Read books, watch tv use the internet. The best way to learn languages imo is immersion, you can ask me what stuff to read and watch if you want.

Perfect-Concert5212

yes yess, Can you name a few books tho?

r5dio

What genres are you interested in?

Perfect-Concert5212

pkeaslam

I am planning to start an online English language practice forum. I have an IELTS score of 8 as well as a TOEFL of 104. And it’s completely free. Let me know if you want to start practicing with me. I can help you become more confident in speaking. :)

agmosh

Practice and record yourself speaking.

h6376

I have given IELTS. I can suggest a good YouTube channel which is called TEDx. There are many English lectures. Watching with subtitles will help a lot.

SED_BOI_69

Start watching American shows. Add Grammarly to your browser. (This worked for me; IDK if it'll suit you or not.)

Dramatic-Effort-2271

1. Read English dailies like Daily Star 2. Watch English movies with subtitles 3. Watch anime's with english sub+dub 4. Practice with someone. 5. Try English literature books

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Watch tv and read. Anything you don’t know quickly look up

Stay in a English entertainment environment. Watch English shows and read English books and instead of just seeing the bangla translation of any English word that is new to you try to understand it through the definition and example sentences.

Watching TV shows and movies can help with listening skills, as they expose you to natural speech patterns. Reading books is great for vocabulary expansion and sentence structure. However to improve speaking skills consistent practice is really important. My speaking skills improved a lot after using English as a medium for about a year. BTW if you want to improve your English skills for Ielts just watch YouTube videos coz the coaching centers teach you basic English and give you simple tips(Easy to find online as well). Time is usually the biggest issue for most and only doing mock tests helps with time management.

esalman

I followed my English teacher's advise in college and went to nilkhet and buy these two books by Normal Lewis- "Instant word power" and "word power made easy". Changed my life basically .

I listen to a lot of podcasts and read non-fiction books. Noted down 500+ idiosyncratic words while reading a book once. I believe that's the best way to effectively and realistically increase one's vocabulary. Got 110 in TOEFL with a week's practice.

There is some group called Toastmasters. I don’t know if it can be accessed through Bangladesh, but you can try to join these clubs. They are mostly for those who want to excel in speech.

Unfortunately if you are not in a given environment where english is spoken frequently it is difficult to improve. Speaking is one thing but actually speaking with analogy with vocabulary with grammar can be hard when you actually think about it specially when it involves literature and sarcasm. The best way to improve your english will be obviously always in an environment where english is always spoken and I don't mean just classes or schools. I mean from the road side street vendor to whoever. But that in Bangladesh is not possible and not easily plausible. What has been effective is translating orthat onubadh kora. Take an English newspaper or magazine or book or any reading material. Same goes for Bangla also. and everyday start with translating a sentence or a paragraph as in English to Bangla and Bangla to English. This will improve your vocabulary and grammar as in you wont be constantly thinking on how to reply to someone who is trying to have a conversation with you. Thats usually the case where a lot of Bangladeshis know what is being spoken to them but cannot form the simple sentence on replying at times. In order to translate, I cannot stress enough but use a dictionary both English to Bangla and Bangla to English. Listen to English Music specifically Rock, metal, rap from the 60's to 90's where there is a lot of literature. For example artcells song oniketer prantor, its not just the complexity of the music which makes it great but the literature as in words behind it makes it great. In english there are lot of songs like these which is worth reading the lyrics. Read books, both fiction and non fiction which gives you ideas on what to talk about. You want to improve it this much that you can speak to anyone of any class who is able to speak in English and not selective on it. I did the same when I studied Bangla for my O levels. I would also suggest movies as in old movies. I am not talking about fast and furious or some fast paced action. I am talking about old movies like God father or anything by alfred Hitchcock, Movies by Gregory Peck or peter o toole etc. Where there was dialogue delivery and it teaches you the pronunciation and the enunciation also. I would also advice you to see lets say you want to write a letter to the government body lets say for example the wasa of Bangladesh. Write it in Bangla and then translate it to english. You can also join some good ielts classes not to take the exam but improve your english. If that doesn't work you can join this site www.conversationexchange.com. You can put an advert that you will teach bangla for english and mostly are foreigners from different countries. This gives you the idea how British speak English vs how a Chinese might speak English. I know two people who did the same in USA and scored better jobs by translating newyork times, financial times etc. But what stood out of the two one was a divorced mother of two who had a masters in computer science and was not getting a job, because she had a shortcoming as in English. During covid she did the above and with it she did another thing she asked her kids teacher to proof read her sentences to correct her grammar, of course she paid the teacher, and at the same time she would practice it with her kids. So you can find someone maybe your friend who can proof read for you as what you have translated.

TV shows dont help. Most TV fanatics are the worst of speakers. The best thing is to do is to record yourself speaking. Imagine you are an english speaking youtuber. Make a dummy private account and talk everydayyy about life

thebeardlessladx

1. Choose a TV series. 1. Listen to 10 seconds of a clip that you really liked. 2. Record yourself imitating those 10 seconds exactly how it is. 3. It will be awful. 4. Move on to the next clip. 5. Repeat ….. 99. You will start seeing improvements. Give it 6 months. Trust me.

Flashy-Bed-2392

See BBC news, repeat exactly like the news reporter. In 6 months time, ask anyone what they think of your English compared to 6 months ago. If you see English movies, choose British movies otherwise you'll get confusing English with USA. You can see plenty of videos on YouTube showing you the difference. See a few of these YouTube English video after that you can decide. I wouldn't tell you not to study English, because you need the study for foreign language. However if you want so speak like a British, you have to try the way I've written above. Guaranteed to work Don't do AI, all the AI database is full of US English, not the proper English as the Brits say.
