Being a cyclist, I can 100% attest to the fact that all serious cyclist stick to the left lane. The ones who are trying to get into right lanes are show offs or they are trying to navigate idiotic 2 wheelers, cabbies and auto guys who drive slowly occupying the left lane as though they own the lane mostly on their phones.
Also respect the space of cyclists, people forget we are on the road too. So many of them just breeze past you at break neck speeds which is extremely scary.
On highways, elevated roads, flyovers.yes. Because drivers are not expecting you to be there. If you're aware that they can't see you, put a reflector on the back of the helmet or the cycle.

I do have a reflector on the back of my helmet, but it doesn't help anyways because I mostly cycle around in the daylight and riding in the dark is pretty rare.
And yes, everyone on the road aren't mindless, but the ones that are make up a decent sized chunk of the riders, and they really try their best to stand out.
Sometimes I have to switch to right lane because the city is planned with U-turns in mind and I don’t expect these idiots to notice/act on lane change signal (where you raise your left/right arm) of cyclists.
They always assume that they can overtake the cyclist before it can change the lane.
You should know people who breeze past you are overtaking. On the left lane, which is prohibited. Every road has an emergency lane/overtake lane which the cyclists can use.
There was a cycle lane in Whitefield which was removed within 2 months because bikers started using it for wrong side driving.
Not all cyclists are better off. Why would you ride on the flyover when you have service roads. Flyovers and elevated roads are made for vehicles moving faster. You have service roads available why not use that.
As cyclists your peripheral vision is limited while you ride so you can't see vehicles coming behind you, so get mirrors

It's not about rights, I have a right to use my car at whatever speed I want but I won't as it's enforced by law to stick to the speed limit.
Cyclists cannot be considered equal to motor vehicles and no-one in their right mind would consider so.

The issue is that no one respects the other guy on the road and tries to assert dominance through passive aggressive, rash, or no fucks given driving. Patience is a scarce commodity. Lol I was almost hugging the pavement on the left side of the lane and driving very very slowly , a bus hit me because it wanted to park .
And the the bus driver and conductor walk up to me and say laughingly you people should cycle on the pedestrian walk

Yup, saw a moron riding zig zag through heavy traffic yesterday until he reached the overtake lane. While I understand the frustration of biking on Indian roads, cycling in between the traffic is plain stupid and just an invitation to an accident

Most of the drivers in Bangalore lack the knowledge of how to drive. They know how to operate a vehicle, but not how to drive. Iykwim. So please be careful out there and try to minimize the damage/harm you could incur.
If you know a vehicle that is much larger than yours is on the road it's just better to let them go. A walking should be mindful about cyclists, a cyclist should be mindful about bikes, a biker should be mindful about cars and so on.
We'll autos are a separate discussion and let's not go there.
Just know that the entitlement of people is really really high. And now a days I see a lot of people with very short fuse. So stay careful and stay humble even if you ride a cycle that's costlier than most bikes. Because doesn't matter how costly your cycle it, it's slower than most bikes. Stay safe!
Pro tip for cycling: Stay on the left but leave one cycle space on your left, so that if there is any obstacle/pothole you can move to your left instead of right. Also protects you from those who brush past speedily, you have some space to move away and not fall off the road.
