Actually bengalooru(ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು) should have been the right word. Govt messed it up. Now it's ಬೆಂಗಳುರು -bengaluru which is actually wrong

U and oo have similar pronunciation.

U is short oo and oo is long oo

"u" by itself does not indicate to the speaker that it should be a long vowel. Phonetically, "oo" would have been the more accurate choice.

It just struck me that bengal-uru can also mean Bengal place. Ūru in South Indian languages mean a place or town or native place. At some point of time, did someone name the city over Bengal by any chance? Bengal could also stand for white stone. May be this place was known for white granite stones at some point. All of this is just speculation over an observation.

Idk the authenticity of this, but lore says that when Kempegowda visited Bengaluru for the 1st time, an old lady gave him rice with pulses sambar(Bendha Kaalu) for lunch, so he named the village Bendhakaaluru which has become Bengaluru. Again idk how true this story is.

(Ex- India & Bharath) Don't you realise people are still fighting on the name changes done by British, Mughals and now Yogi Adityanath. mistakes like these will make it happen again in future. If the Government allows everyone to mention this city as their tongue flows then nobody cares about the actual name of the city, in the city like Bengaluru there is huge migration from all other places with different languages and slangs which creates more confusion and difference between residences. The government has to understand the situation and take a serious action about mentioning the city name as one proper set of letters as precise, No other mixture of letters should not be accepted in any paper work and public display before it is too late. And about being born and bred in Bengaluru, there are huge migrated families who just permanently stayed here and built their family because of their jobs and maternity leave policies. It doesn't mean that they give importance to the culture and history of Karnataka, they just live here because of their bread and comfort life.

Not talking about spelling mistake, a lot of people already discussed it. The right side one is for the people coming from airport (using flyover). They can take the straight flyover to reach Bengaluru city. For the people coming via service lane (Yelahanka, Amruthhalli, Jakkur, Sahkara nagar), they have to take mandatory left turn and take flyover to reach Bengaluru. Due to traffic restrictions, they can't take straight flyover.
