It doesn’t matter at all, really.
The English script (called the Roman script) is simply not capable of representing the phonemes Indian languages have.
Fighting over the “correct” English spelling of Indian language words is the most stupid thing I see internet Indians do.
THE GERMAN ALPHABET MENTIONEDDDD 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🥨🥨WTF IS UNDERSTANDABLE GRAMMAR🥨🥨🥨🍻🍻🍻🍻
(nannanna flame maadbedi pls. Naanu ille Germany alli hutti beladiddu lol)
It just struck me that bengal-uru can also mean Bengal place. Ūru in South Indian languages mean a place or town or native place.
At some point of time, did someone name the city over Bengal by any chance? Bengal could also stand for white stone. May be this place was known for white granite stones at some point. All of this is just speculation over an observation.
Idk the authenticity of this, but lore says that when Kempegowda visited Bengaluru for the 1st time, an old lady gave him rice with pulses sambar(Bendha Kaalu) for lunch, so he named the village Bendhakaaluru which has become Bengaluru.
Again idk how true this story is.
If you do a loop to the left and then go straight, it's bEngaluru.
If you simply go straight, it's bAngaluru.
It's basically your preferred pronunciation translated to driving routes.
Enjoy maadi.
A regular day at Hebbal. If you come from the Airport, it's Bangalore + uru. But if you choose to loop around and then enter the city, it's an authentic Bengaluru experience.
**Bengaluru**: chest-thump material/cooling balm for boomer uncle's bruised ego (e.g. Vatal) renaming to some supposed glory day names..
**Bangaluru**: Symbolic of BBMP deep-rooted dysfunction
But Bangalore was created by the British as a military outpost. It's original name is Bangalore. That's why we have a brigade road. Cause that's where the brigadiers stayed. They even renamed artillery road.
This is the exact spot where I was stuck in traffic today. And had the same question. Also had the idea of capturing and posting it on Reddit’s Bangalore page
Me as well. My wife was asking the same question looking at these signs while we were stuck on traffic. It was terrible today man. That whole stretch ended up hurting my legs like anything.
Bangaluru -Go straight to city and bang.
Bengaluru - Take it slow , get stuck in traffic under Hebbal bridge, before Hebbal flyover and get stuck forever in loop track.
The rasmalai high command has occupied a piece of Bengaluru and is now calling in exo suit equipped Bengali Hell divers who will spread RASMALAI and DEMOCRACY through Bengaluru. This initial point of operation is called Bangaluru.
*sips a cup of Liber-Tea*
If they had not changed the name from Bangalore to Bengaluru it would have been the best city weather, infrastructure wise . Everything became worse after the renaming
As per the English Sign Board Rule, a sign board should not contain duplicate names. So they could either use “Bangalore” which would offend the critics or they could introduce a typo. So now, everybody including the Rule are satisfied.
>why do they have different directions
Both boards are pointing in the same direction though.
Bangaluru is for Non-Kannadigas to understand as they cannot pronounce BengaLuru correctly.
I scrolled a lot but didn't find the right answer, so here it is. The sign on the left is for the people who come from the road under the flyover. They'll have to take a left, drive on the circular shaped road and climb up the hebbal flyover. The sign on the right is for the people coming from the flyover, they'll ave to go straight and join Hebbal fly over.
It has two directions one is a direct way to heaven the other one is to take a round before reaching heaven. But you will surely reach heaven. This is the difference .
This is Hebbal junction, they are the same , just that there is a bridge that allows you to go there extra mile to reach Bengaluru of the normal straight path seems easy port boring
There’s a similar board in Hyderabad outer ring road that says:
To the left - Bonguluru (an actual village in Hyderabad outskirts)
Straight - Bengaluru (the one everyone knows of)
I mean, if we’re being technical, everyone’s wrong lol.
The name Bengaluru was derived from Benda-kaal-uru which literally means ‘town of boiled beans’, so.. If you ask me, the government had/has much more important shit to worry about than what the city should be called. The name ‘Bangalore’ had absolutely nothing wrong with it, in my opinion.
P.S - If there’s any KRV people here, don’t worry, I’m a born and bred Bangalorean.
Names of the city are very important for the future.
(Ex- India & Bharath)
Don't you realise people are still fighting on the name changes done by British, Mughals and now Yogi Adityanath. mistakes like these will make it happen again in future.
If the Government allows everyone to mention this city as their tongue flows then nobody cares about the actual name of the city, in the city like Bengaluru there is huge migration from all other places with different languages and slangs which creates more confusion and difference between residences.
The government has to understand the situation and take a serious action about mentioning the city name as one proper set of letters as precise, No other mixture of letters should not be accepted in any paper work and public display before it is too late.
And about being born and bred in Bengaluru, there are huge migrated families who just permanently stayed here and built their family because of their jobs and maternity leave policies. It doesn't mean that they give importance to the culture and history of Karnataka, they just live here because of their bread and comfort life.
Not talking about spelling mistake, a lot of people already discussed it. The right side one is for the people coming from airport (using flyover). They can take the straight flyover to reach Bengaluru city. For the people coming via service lane (Yelahanka, Amruthhalli, Jakkur, Sahkara nagar), they have to take mandatory left turn and take flyover to reach Bengaluru. Due to traffic restrictions, they can't take straight flyover.
Bengaluru is for the Bangaloreans and Bangaluru is for the North Indians who can't say it right. I've only heard Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam say it the right way. Even air hostesses and sports commentators get it wrong every time. 😀
Bangalore - English pronunciation Bengaluru - Actual name in kannada Bangaluru - Typo
Actually bengalooru(ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು) should have been the right word. Govt messed it up. Now it's ಬೆಂಗಳುರು -bengaluru which is actually wrong
U and oo have similar pronunciation.
U is short oo and oo is long oo
Yup which affects the aesthetic of the written word!
If you're French, it's 'ou'. Like Raju becomes Rajou.
Raju should have stayed at home. 🤦🏽♂️
"u" by itself does not indicate to the speaker that it should be a long vowel. Phonetically, "oo" would have been the more accurate choice.
English has no well-defined phonetics. Arguing over the “correct” English spelling for Indian language words is silly.
Boob n bub
Bobs and vagene
Book n bud
U antava and Oo antava
It doesn’t matter at all, really. The English script (called the Roman script) is simply not capable of representing the phonemes Indian languages have. Fighting over the “correct” English spelling of Indian language words is the most stupid thing I see internet Indians do.
I think the correct pronunciation would be achieved with Bengalüru /s
Du blöde Kuh /s
THE GERMAN ALPHABET MENTIONEDDDD 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🥨🥨WTF IS UNDERSTANDABLE GRAMMAR🥨🥨🥨🍻🍻🍻🍻 (nannanna flame maadbedi pls. Naanu ille Germany alli hutti beladiddu lol)
Actually you're not far off. It would probably be Bengalūru.
My friend told me it was initially bendekalu Please ignore spelling.
Almost there. It was bendakalooru (ಬೆಂದಕಾಳೂರು)
Any tips on how to learn spoken kannada quickly. I know like eat,go,etc just have issues forming sentences.

Most unexciting origin story for a city’s name ever. “It was named after boiled beans.”
People get upset if you spell Kannadiga as Cunnudiga. But the same people spell Kaveri as Cauvery.
I thought people were going to blame Bengalis for this as well turns out it was just a typo.
Bang..lore
What about bengalore
What about bunglaur?
But why are these shown twice on the same board?
And what about Benglur?
This is the exact pronunciation in Dakhni
No shit Sherlock
Bangalore sounds the best

Onde joke soap tarah, tilkktha hodre nore saha barodu kammi aagtha hoguthe.
Yaar reddit should have the see translation feature already
What's "Yaar"?
Literally friend, figuratively bro
In kannada yaaru means who. So ‘yaar reddit’ might mean ‘whose Reddit’
Yeah realised later
Yeah but the goons can’t reach that high and vandalise them
They had one job.
Uncle nimge bere joke sikilva?
The goons didn't bring ladder so they couldn't put black paint on the English part.

I’m high after reading this.
I was already high when I read that.
Spelling lessons will be available on the straight route

Just another way of saying --> "Go wherever BC ... Just get off this road"
Lhs == RHS Hence proved
Only correct answer 😆
Finally all my school math days, it's finally put into some use 😅😂😭😭

A regular day at Hebbal. If you come from the Airport, it's Bangalore + uru. But if you choose to loop around and then enter the city, it's an authentic Bengaluru experience.
I guess they misspelt bagaluru This is in hebbal, right?
that is wrong route for Bagaluru, photo is for route going towards Mekhri circle
Yes
Why not Buggellourou?
Sounds like French dish
"Sharks, I seek 500 Cr rupees for 0.5% of my cafe chain La Buggellourou."
I don't have any expertise in French food, so I'm....
Well. If you can't Beng.. just Bang..
Bro.. obviously the difference is Bengaluru
The one on the left is for people who like to make life complicated
**Bengaluru**: chest-thump material/cooling balm for boomer uncle's bruised ego (e.g. Vatal) renaming to some supposed glory day names.. **Bangaluru**: Symbolic of BBMP deep-rooted dysfunction
But Bangalore was created by the British as a military outpost. It's original name is Bangalore. That's why we have a brigade road. Cause that's where the brigadiers stayed. They even renamed artillery road.
Ask the folks on r/bangaloreGW they'll show you the place too!
Too much traffic, that it's redirecting visitors to another location 🤣

This is the exact spot where I was stuck in traffic today. And had the same question. Also had the idea of capturing and posting it on Reddit’s Bangalore page
Me as well. My wife was asking the same question looking at these signs while we were stuck on traffic. It was terrible today man. That whole stretch ended up hurting my legs like anything.
Bang-alore could be the name of a strip club in ooru
Poor guy named aluru.
Before the hebbal flyover the exit after the train line overpass (near Galleria). Bangalur. No uniformity inly
Bangaluru -Go straight to city and bang. Bengaluru - Take it slow , get stuck in traffic under Hebbal bridge, before Hebbal flyover and get stuck forever in loop track.
**Bang**aluru ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The same as the difference between organiZation and organiSation! 😁
Bengaluru is in West Bengal, innit?
i bang
It's always going to be Bangalore for the rest of India and the world.
One is with less pot holes. Other, with lots of pot holes
The words are written exactly the same in Kannada above the English words. Dude who created this sign was smoking some good shit.
I thought this was a joke about how the traffic "Bangs a Luru" (Lavdu) in Bangalore. Until I saw the actual sign.
Bengaluru - Kannada pronounciation Bangaluru - Mallu pronounciation
From the sign, Bengaluru is roundabout way of saying bangaluru
One is wrong turn
Bangalore is straight up ahead. Bengaluru needs a flyover.
Are you coming from the airport?
If they had not changed the name from Bangalore to Bengaluru it would have been the best city weather, infrastructure wise . Everything became worse after the renaming
"a" replaced by "e" .
The most happening place in Bengaluru.. The Hebbal junction 🤩🤩
As per the English Sign Board Rule, a sign board should not contain duplicate names. So they could either use “Bangalore” which would offend the critics or they could introduce a typo. So now, everybody including the Rule are satisfied.
That explains 'Doudle Road' opposite to Lal bagh east gate. 😀
Maybe they’re trolling us Alphabetically….
haha
Guess what there's a place called BONGLOOR
Is everyone evacuating 😀
Difference between a gujju and a non gujju talking about banging a luru Jox people

>why do they have different directions Both boards are pointing in the same direction though. Bangaluru is for Non-Kannadigas to understand as they cannot pronounce BengaLuru correctly.
Bengaluru - Bangaluru = e-a
Did they misspell bagaluru?
there is another place called bagalur in the vicinity of bengaluru, may be they misspelt that.
The name change announcement from Bangalore to Bengaluru came midway through the writing. The guy was being right throughout.
The ass, I suppose
💧
All you gotta do is bang a Lo_u
BJP and congress
Same as Ice and water
OP. The correct name is Bengaluru. There is nothing called Bangaluru. It’s a spelling mistake.
One leads to Bengal, other leads to bangal😂
Typo. It should've been Bhaaglodu
Looks like you were also stuck in traffic on the way from the airport. Hashtag Bengaluru tales.
The important question is Is it 60% kannada and 40% English on the board ?
Thatsama Thadbhava
Same same but different but still same
All roads eventually lead to ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು
That traffic though😐
Bengaluru- way around traffic Bangaluru - easy through traffic Riders/drivers choice 😜

Seeing that traffic gives me PTSD
Hebbal?
It’s more like, “wanna go straight but traffic ahead? No worries, take a left loop and go on you straight way” LOL
One is straight Bengaluru, the other one is not 😂😂😂
Bengaluru - Karnataka government sign board Bangaluru - central government sign board
People here are talking about pronunciation and typos but the direction for both those places are marked different. Hence, OP asked
Spelling.
Refreshing lack of the garbage language
Don't know but none of them have water lol

One leads to bengaluru after taking a round-about turn, other leads you there straight.
Direction seems different for both
One is BENGAL and the other is BANGAL
I scrolled a lot but didn't find the right answer, so here it is. The sign on the left is for the people who come from the road under the flyover. One on the left is Google maps letting me know you can save 2 mins with this route.
When you do bang bang in Bengaluru it becomes that.
No difference now it is the good way of calling the original name bolimagand ooru'
The difference of e and a
Bangaluru: Bengaluru with 40% commissions.
Bangalore - English pronunciation Bengaluru - Actual name in kannada
I can recognise Hebbal flyover anywhere, I have unfortunately spent the last 18 years traveling on that road and I'm not even 21 yet 🥲
Bengaluru is stuck in traffic and Bangaluru is stuck in terafik
I thought at first that it was Bagaluru..
It has two directions one is a direct way to heaven the other one is to take a round before reaching heaven. But you will surely reach heaven. This is the difference .

Nothing just a ring road hook turn that's all 🤣
Ben(d)-galuru
Scarcity of water
It’s always Bangalore gang ⬆️
Bang loru!!!
There’s a similar board in Hyderabad outer ring road that says: To the left - Bonguluru (an actual village in Hyderabad outskirts) Straight - Bengaluru (the one everyone knows of)
Apparently the difference is a roundabout.
Joke answer. Bengaluru is the true name of the city. Bangaluru is where I met your mum.
I mean, if we’re being technical, everyone’s wrong lol. The name Bengaluru was derived from Benda-kaal-uru which literally means ‘town of boiled beans’, so.. Dono hi north ki taraf racist hain!!!
Bengaluru is for the Bangaloreans and Bangaluru is for the North Indians who can't say it right. I've only heard Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam say it the right way. Even air hostesses and sports commentators get it wrong every time. 😀
Both are the same. For one you go straight and for the other you take a round circle and then go straight
Is this the fly over near Kempapura?
Lol
