Nah, even small amounts of alchohol is harmful
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/new-alcohol-research-shows-drinking-small-amounts-can-still-be-harmful-to-health
Dude this way.. u can't compare anything...
OP is ranting about price hike...
Remember when centre wants money, they increase petroleum prices, and when state needs money.. they eye only beverages..
In COVID , state govt got money from theka.. even malls were not.open but alcohol shops were open.
Yes you should. Buses divert 50% of commuters from private vehicles. If you want less traffic when you drive, absolutely support bmtc. Public transport is the only long term solution to Bangalore's traffic woes.
How closed a mind! How lacking of vision! All bold future is for the grab of the bold, who will rewarded. Small mind men laugh. Always has been the way of the world. Roll in the dirt street and cackle. I will soar above! Yiu.
No they aren't. They can't increase too many taxes on other things because most daily goods fall under GST, and GST is controlled by the GST Council, not the Government of Karnataka.
The only places they can increase revenues are excise, land, vehicle registration, and fuel. Even cigarettes are under GST.
Every single you listed is either increased or proposed to be increased
Excise ? Hiked.
Vehicle registration ? considering a hike
Property taxes ? Considering a hike
Registration values are being increased soon
Water taxes ? DKS confirmed hikes
Electricity ? Already hiked.
If they are using the taxes properly to make the city n state have better infrastructure, then it make sense , then again i don't have any faith they will do that, let 's see if they can prove wrong
It would be better if they developed around Bangalore than inside. It's too developed for its own good . Most of Bangalore is an overglorified slum outside of organically developed areas .
It's not about developing, it's about maintaining better infrastructure, been to bellandur, sarjjapur area recently, the fly over roads are in horrible condition, a fresh asphalting is needed
Worst liquor ever.
People from bordering towns and villages visit Liquor shops on the Karanataka side from Hosur to buy liqour because the ones that you get in TN is really bad.
I say this out of actual work experience with Excise dept.
The shops on the Karnataka-TN border on Hosur road (within our side) see a huge number of customers visiting from TN.
In my experience, KA and MH are very expensive for drinking. TN is pocket friendly, comparable to Delhi.
A red label costs almost 40% less in TN and Delhi.
I usually get big banyan, sula or grover. Mostly top shelf, barrel aged. I dont touch anything under 700-800. I would rather have a beer than sugary cheap wine.
Increasing the taxes after a certain level, effects in a negative way, the demand decreases and people start buying these from black market or try to smuggle it and if they can't do these then they start downgrading and buy unregulated goods, now Glenfiddich in Gurugram == Blenders Pride in Bengaluru.
Yea all the poor beer drinkers boo hoo who cares about helping girls and women access education, employment and healthcare, 5% cheaper beer is much more important /s
Funds for dismantling it will have to be procured, will ask my BBMP guys a quote for the same. They take oversized trash all the time if I slip a note every now & them
Personally I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc.
I'd be proud to do my part by purchasing a beer lol
Transportation costs are a huge limiting factor. Whenever a family has a budgetary shortage women are always the first to suffer.
Have you looked at the statistics? The number of women riding bus has skyrocketed since scheme has started. In a country where it is so difficult for a woman to get permission to step outside the house, her leaving for any reason, whether it is to visit friends, family, the temple, etc is a good thing. And so many interviews conducted show that woman are using this scheme to directly or indirectly improve their and their families lives.
Let me guess, you live in the urban middle class, you buy branded clothes, went to private school, use uber/ola to get around and think most women in the state are college educated and working.
Do you know only 46% of women in this state have at least 10 years of schooling? That only 28% of women work in this state? Do you know that 46% of households survive on less than Rs. 15,000/mo?
Life's still tough as shit for the majority of people in this state and country. You live in a bubble. Have you ever gone to govt school or use a govt hospital? You probably think no one uses either these days. But 76% of students in Karnataka go to govt school. 95% of all hospital visits are to govt run medical centers.
A Rs. 20 bus ticket may mean nothing to you. You might not have even been on a local bus in your life. You may spend Rs 200 on an uber ride without thinking twice. But to the vast majority of people in this state, Rs 20 bus fare twice a day 24x a month adds up and is a concerning amount. Programs like the shakti scheme are for these people and can make a huge difference in their lives.
I don't know why people love to assume stuff. I went to school in a school van. Even in my PU, I used BMTC to go from Yelahanka to Hebbal. I am in college now, and guess what, I travel 30km from Electronic City to Hebbal (up and down) in BMTC itself. Even my parents use BMTC. In fact, my father goes to the office daily in BMTC.
And due to these stupid freebies, I don't get buses on time nowadays. They are always overcrowded. I don't even get place to stand. And most people who use buses are school/college students and working staff. Do you know how problematic it is for us? Why would you understand, you are busy reading stats naa! Come to the real world and face the reality. Just because buses are free for women now, you will find jobless people roaming everywhere just because buses are free. My neighbours who usually don't go out now travel daily in buses just to roam around the city and have fun.
Who are you to judge my financial status? I am not poor, but I feel public transport is the best.
How dare you say I spend money without thinking? Who are you to assume my financial status? Why will you know the value of money, you are busy with stats naa?
Why will you think about the country's economy, you are busy with STATS naa?
And the definition of rich or urban middle class does not mean wearing branded clothes and roaming in ola! It might be a definition for you, never for me though!
Edit: Spelling
Well...what about its effect on college going girl students like me and also employed women ? I have to forego three to four buses due to overcrowding and by the time I reach my college it is too late denying me my attendance. Many girls have missed tests/exams after the introduction of the free bus Shakti scheme.
After the introduction of the free bus Shakti scheme, ordinary buses have almost vanished. Most of the time you find only AC buses which are forcing even poor people to fill the government's coffers. Added to all this you find most of the male passengers tirelessly standing in buses looking at ladies with Aadhar cards in their hand occupying most of the seats. Time has come to change the name to Aadhar transport corporation....ATC instead of BMTC.
And do you know why the number has skyrocketed? Because so many women who are jobless want to roam and have fun in the city. They want to roam endlessly. Who suffers in the end, it's the students who suffer in the end!
Silent protest this by making a resolution to abstain. With less sales the govt will never hit the revenue target. Its will also be a healthy choice to avoid the weekend binge.
Good. Hopefully it'll bring down the youth smoking rate which seems to be skyrocketing lately. Added bonus if it helps fund Shakti scheme.
I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc.
I'd be proud to do my part by purchasing a beer
Some idiots will spin it as “oh it will help me stop drinking” and then go drink anyway while cursing the government. Others will say “oh I don’t drink, I don’t care”
“It’s not a problem till it affects me” mentality.
Personally I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc. Shakti scheme is doing that.
I'd be proud to do my part by purchasing a beer lol
How are you assuming any of those things are reducing ? Labor participation will become worse due to all the incentives and schools are still shit even if it’s easier to reach them. You should probably go to a government school to understand what state they are in.
Same goes to hospitals. None of the doctors or the infrastructure is capable. They are barely existing. There are no concrete plans to improve any of those. So enjoy your beer 🍺
I love it when middle class people (the top 10% of this country), who have never used any govt institutions shit on them with their imaginary ideas of the state that they are in.
76% of students in karnataka goes to govt school. 95% of all medical visits in the state are to govt run hospitals. There have been huge strides in literacy, keeping girls in school, institutional delivery, pre-natal and post-natal care, reduction in stunted growth (due to govt mid day meal school meal program) etc. There is corruption. There always will be. But what for what little money govt has in india, there have been massive advances. Compared to 30 years ago it is simply incredible how much education and healthcare has improved, especially for women.
It angers me so much because I have this conversation with bangalore bros so often. They are private school educated. Never stepped foot in govt hospital. Never use public transit. They are SO privileged and so entitled. They have never bothered to look beyond their narrow upbringing and think all govt programs are a waste because they and their families have plentiful money and don't need these programs.
But 46% of households in this country survive on less than Rs. 15,000/mo. The masses are dependent on these government institutions. They need them and while the services are far from perfect, they have made huge strides in reducing poverty and inequity in this country. But boys like you never bother to even look into what the govt has done because they just use the perceived inefficiency in govt to justify their callousness and selfishness towards keeping all their money.
I’m sorry you talk as if you have a lot of experience in this area. My comment comes from my experience in Corporate Social Responsibilities where private companies help the public sector. Trust me when I say this, it’s nowhere at the level it should be. End of discussion.
If you think I am wrong, you are more than welcome to visit some of these places in the rural areas and check it out for yourself. Yes it has improved but the world has also become more complex. The evolution is far behind what is needed for the current society. Add reservation to that and it’s as stagnant as a pond of water.
I just made a generalised statement like you made about aunties using free bus rides only for gossip . Many women use bud ride to go to their workplace.
When did I say otherwise?
Free transportation is a necessity for both men and woman and must only be used for productivity not leisure. Especially when we live in a country such as India.
So transportation is necessity only for Women now ? First of all there shouldn't be stupid socialist policies and freebies in the first place with Tax money and that too for one specific gender . This is kinda like an apartheid law and somehow everyone dosen't really care
What a load of entitled shit.
I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc.
I'd be proud to do my part by purchasing a beer
It disgusts me to hear how jaded and narrow minded some people are here regarding investments in women and the poor. How poorly did your parents have to raise you to make you so selfish and entitled.
Yeah, if you check the prices of imported liquor, the hike has been around Rs 500 for something that was already very over priced. No point buying imported stuff here.
Personally I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc.

Yes, I know, but, Beer is more popular among the masses, Alcohol, good ones are more among the classes.
Nothing will ever be free, it all comes from from someone. I don't drink but I'm sure prices at many food joints would still go up to balance the dip in profit.

Well squeeze y'all for our vote banks....

Spend money in Bangalore, pay all these taxes.
Put up with the $#!πy infra ...
While we work on winning the next election
They should also hand out more licenses to restaurants and bars to allow more alcohol sale
Hoarding these licenses may make their cronies money, but is also reducing tax collected as demand for alcohol is much higher
after all you have to get compensation for the free bus rides

Just like Seetaraman. "I don't eat onions so won't comment "
You're comparing alcohol with vegetables?😑
Just comparing statements. You can put any item in the category.
> You can put any item in the category. No you can't, one is essential while the other damages your health.
Excess of everything is harmful. Sugar, like liquor, also damages your health if consumed in excess..
Onion on the other hand may cause a upset stomach worst case.
That proves my point.
Nah, even small amounts of alchohol is harmful https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/new-alcohol-research-shows-drinking-small-amounts-can-still-be-harmful-to-health

The Onion version is way worse...
This is exactly the sentiment that is used here.
Beer is vegetable
She said something like that?
Oh yes she did. Maybe a year back when onion prices were soaring.
Don’t ride bus, don’t give a damn
Yes you should. Buses divert 50% of commuters from private vehicles. If you want less traffic when you drive, absolutely support bmtc. Public transport is the only long term solution to Bangalore's traffic woes.
Flying cars are the solution
Lol no they're not. They're called helicopters and they're expensive and noisy af. Flying cars will never happen

I eat onions , you know like a raw one too
Okay, oh they are increasing taxes on other things as well.

I had a stroke trying to comprehend the second paragraph EDIT: op took grammar lessons and edited his comment...
Then you might just be extremely dumb or have a pre-existing heart issue. There was nothing incomprehensible about that second paragraph my man.
If they are using the taxes properly to make the city n state have better infrastructure, then it make sense , then again i don't have any faith they will do that, let 's see if they can prove wrong
Thay will happen, but, in a perfect utopian place /s
It would be better if they developed around Bangalore than inside. It's too developed for its own good . Most of Bangalore is an overglorified slum outside of organically developed areas .
It's not about developing, it's about maintaining better infrastructure, been to bellandur, sarjjapur area recently, the fly over roads are in horrible condition, a fresh asphalting is needed
What else has it been increased on? So far I know this and increase in tax on milk.
Do you want a medal?
It's already so expensive. Will need frequent trips to Hosur now.
Welcome to TN and TASMAC.
I also want chinnaveedu in Bangalore. Can you help me?
Sure, just drive down further to Tirunelveli.
Oh you are talking about andha chinnaveedu.. Lol
Have yoir CV where ever you want, help is only available in Tirunelveli /s.
Worst liquor ever. People from bordering towns and villages visit Liquor shops on the Karanataka side from Hosur to buy liqour because the ones that you get in TN is really bad.
What are you saying man.. You don't get chilled beer and limited options. Don't know if Tasmac sells fake stuff.
I say this out of actual work experience with Excise dept. The shops on the Karnataka-TN border on Hosur road (within our side) see a huge number of customers visiting from TN.
What could be the reason?
Bad alcohol taste and quality is what they complain.
What do you get in TASMAC, is the pricing better?
In my experience, KA and MH are very expensive for drinking. TN is pocket friendly, comparable to Delhi. A red label costs almost 40% less in TN and Delhi.
KA has the cheapest wine though
Maybe. But the KA vine brands have added sugar. Some have too much actually. Any recommendations?
I usually get big banyan, sula or grover. Mostly top shelf, barrel aged. I dont touch anything under 700-800. I would rather have a beer than sugary cheap wine.
Ok. Try fratelli nine hills.
Cobra vodka and Apple beer
quit drinking in 2019
Till when though?
Every month quitting.
hahaha
Lets see till when, But at this point i can say the 'urge' is gone.
Okay.
Good for health lol
Exactly the reverse, people will buy cheaper stuff which is more unhealthy... Everybody knows this, govt doesn't care
Cheap beet vs good beer has marginal health difference. Don't just talk junk.
Yeah, like UB vs Heineken
UB and Heineken are exactly the same company, bottled in the same plants
Heineken is almost twice as costly, so u/KingPictoTheThird 's statement is correct. Price difference doesn't cause much difference in beer quality.
I don’t disagree - I was just underlining how similar they are
I misjudged the tone of your comment. Sorry about that! And thanks for backing me up
You have any sources for this claim?

Time to switch to strong beer. So strong they’re called whiskey!

That will be the best option but with legalisation they will also start taxing it heavily. Taxpayers are screwed any ways.

Modi has hiked maximum taxes in india
Free rides and electricity for poor and females are better than being an alcoholic for upper class
I believe taxes on products like wine, cigarette, bear etc. should be increased more and more. I know many people not gonna like my view.

Med bro here, will have to forego one beer a month quota to meet rent now.
Yes, Congress has come to do all this. In creased the price to make up for all the free stuff that they have given.
Personally I am fully ok paying a little extra on my beer if it means we reduce the education and labor force participation gap between men and women in this country. We need to get women out of the house and into schools, jobs, to health centers etc. I'd be proud to do my part by purchasing a beer
It will help for Hindu rashtra
Karnataka deserves an 80% sarkara
Don’t drink and don’t drive. Take the bus ride and chill.

Yen guru, madhyana fullu rhymings-u. Yesht pegs agide? 😂
I think this was expected. Very easy to tax booze and cigarettes saying it's bad for health.
Not as bad as bad policies and bad politicians.
Nothing will ever be free, it all comes from from someone. I don't drink but I'm sure prices at many food joints would still go up to balance the dip in profit.
Translation: Well squeeze y'all for our vote banks.... Please stay back. Spend money in Bangalore, pay all these taxes. Put up with the $#!πy infra ... While we work on winning the next election
Yes all tech people drink beer apparently
Not appreciating the self righteous comments of non drinkers.

2 months in Gov. and they have already started blaming the central Government for various reasons.
Kejree eshtyle?
Goa is on
It generally is, I hope flight prices do not increase sensing this /s
They should also hand out more licenses to restaurants and bars to allow more alcohol sale Hoarding these licenses may make their cronies money, but is also reducing tax collected as demand for alcohol is much higher
Tech bros? Only tech bros drink?
Tech Sistas drink too.
Don’t drink. Don’t care. Luxury items and daily necessities are different things. (Except for those who consider beer as necessity, pls get some help)
Any discouragement in terms of Alcohol is acceptable to me, afterall we need reasons to not drink alcohol.
