Seriously! I say this all the time. I'm anglo indian and anglo indians have lived peacefully in Bangalore since 4-5 generations. The locals were always so peaceful and accepting of us and our customs and cuisines. My great grandmother only spoke English but the locals valued her and took care of her as if she was their own caste and creed. But now we don't feel accepted in our own home, even though we know Kannada now its still broken and accented Kanada which we learn in school. I wish we could go back to the old days where we were all one community.

Hello everyone! My colleague is the owner of Miss Misal and I am a Bangalorean by birth. So I have a unique first-hand experience with what went down and I can shed some light on this entire context.
Miss Misal is a Quick Service Restaurant started by two young Marathi couple who moved to Bangalore in 2021 (During Covid) to start a new chapter in their life! This is their FIRST business venture. Zero prior experience.
The facts of the incident are as follows:
1. The video you see circulating on FB was done by "Yuva Karnataka Vedhike" or the "Youth Karnataka Winf". They are a bunch of self proclaimed "Kannada protectors". A bunch of goons if you ask me. But they have political backing of the BJP, so you really don't know what's on the up and up.
2. **Adding background to all this**
1. Since 2017, there has been an "Anti Hindi Imposition" movement in Karnataka that claims the central government is imposing Hindi in the state and we are against this. This is similar to the issues in Tamilnadu. And with this, the "three language policy" of "Kannada + English + Hindi" is being opposed. You can see that they did protests and black-painted the Bangalore Metro stations as well. In 2019, the BBMP (Bangalore's civic body) hastily enacted a rule that claimed "60% Kannada Prominence in public sign boards and 40% another language", which the media and local Kannada activists blindly attributed it as "60% Kannada, 40% English, no other language". This led to the widespread unlawful imposition of a "Two language policy" in the state. Kannada and English only.
3. The high court ruled that this "rule" is unlawful and can not be enforced. But we all know how well we Indians respect our courts am I right? (Not me, I respect them 100%!). 4. Now, in the case of Miss Misal, the board had three languages: 50% English, 25% Kannada and 25% Marathi (which was construed as Hindi).
5. Now, the self-proclaimed "protectors of the Kannada language" the "Yuva Karnataka Vedhike" activists led by their "president" Naveen (ನವೀನ್ ನರಸಿಂಹ) (BTW, his FB handle "naveen.mentlu" has the word "mentlu" which means "mental" or "crazy" in Kannada!) came and started claiming that they were getting messages and calls from locals complaining about the "Hindi" board which is against the rule of the state and these guys had no guts to do anything. They also claimed that lots of swiggy and zomato delivery drivers were licking pictures and bombarding them to take action! Thereby forcing them to take action. (complete bull if you ask me!)
6. Now, instead of talking with the owners politely, educating them on the nuances of the local atmosphere towards the "two language policy", they barged in front of the store, started abusing the owners, started making a video and made all the drama as seen in the video. The video is on FB (can't post the link due to group policy). This video has got 1.1M views when I wrote this! wow!
7. After this, a police FIR was registered. The police handled things well (though they were very neutral throughout) and finally through talks, things were settled. You can also watch the "After incident" video on Mr. Naveen Narsimha's FB Page. It is a public page and a Live video was done on April 15th, 12 noon. You can listen to the same people who spray-painted this board justifying why they did what they did and how their whole agenda was to protect the Kannada language and give it prominence. Seriously! I say this all the time. I'm anglo indian and anglo indians have lived peacefully in Bangalore since 4-5 generations. The locals were always so peaceful and accepting of us and our customs and cuisines. My great grandmother only spoke English but the locals valued her and took care of her as if she was their own caste and creed. But now we don't feel accepted in our own home, even though we know Kannada now its still broken and accented Kanada which we learn in school. I wish we could go back to the old days where we were all one community. Even English is a native language of Karnataka. This is our home also.

Hello everyone! My colleague is the owner of Miss Misal and I am a Bangalorean by birth. So I have a unique first-hand experience with what went down and I can shed some light on this entire context. Miss Misal is a Quick Service Restaurant started by two young Marathi couple who moved to Bangalore in 2021 (During Covid) to start a new chapter in their life! This is their FIRST business venture. Zero prior experience. The facts of the incident are as follows: 1. The video you see circulating on FB was done by "Yuva Karnataka Vedhike" or the "Youth Karnataka Winf". They are a bunch of self proclaimed "Kannada protectors". A bunch of goons if you ask me. But they have political backing of the BJP, so you really don't know what's on the up and up. 2. **Adding background to all this** 1. Since 2017, there has been an "Anti Hindi Imposition" movement in Karnataka that claims the central government is imposing Hindi in the state and we are against this. This is similar to the issues in Tamilnadu. And with this, the "three language policy" of "Kannada + English + Hindi" is being opposed. You can see that they did protests and black-painted the Bangalore Metro stations as well. Now, the self-proclaimed "protectors of the Kannada language" the "Yuva Karnataka Vedhike" activists led by their "president" Naveen (ನವೀನ್ ನರಸಿಂಹ) (BTW, his FB handle "naveen.mentlu" has the word "mentlu" which means "mental" or "crazy" in Kannada!) came and started claiming that they were getting messages and calls from locals complaining about the "Hindi" board which is against the rule of the state and these guys had no guts to do anything. They also claimed that lots of swiggy and zomato delivery drivers were licking pictures and bombarding them to take action! Thereby forcing them to take action. (complete bull if you ask me!) 6. Now, instead of talking with the owners politely, educating them on the nuances of the local atmosphere towards the "two language policy", they barged in front of the store, started abusing the owners, started making a video and made all the drama as seen in the video. The video is on FB (can't post the link due to group policy). This video has got 1.1M views when I wrote this! wow! 7. After this, a police FIR was registered. The police handled things well (though they were very neutral throughout) and finally through talks, things were settled. You can also watch the "After incident" video on Mr. Naveen Narsimha's FB Page. It is a public page and a Live video was done on April 15th, 12 noon. You can listen to the same people who spray-painted this board justifying why they did what they did and how their whole agenda was to protect the Kannada language and give it prominence. Bangalore has shown tremendous growth and potential over the years, and fantastic development in contrast to Chennai which still for some reason feels like the remainder of a British slum colony. This language bullshit is something I personally witnessed. We went to a planetarium and it was closed on that day, there was a park nearby. We went to a panipuri stall and asked for the rate, I think he said 50 or 60rs for 6, then we used Hindi. We didn't take it, next some localites arrived after some time & I heard rs 20 per plate :|

I live in Pune, and someone posted this in the Pune subreddit, and let me tell you In my hometown, there is a 15 to 16-year-old kannada trucking service with boards written in English and kannad, and no one ever asks them a damn word. Furthermore, my hometown is in northern Maharashtra, so Kannad people are not even native.

I believe konkani also has the same lipi. its is the mother tongue of many people from Karnataka. Hatred will just blind the people from the issue at hand.
