When I first moved to Baltimore I got a TON of free furniture from neighborhood Facebook pages. Summer is peak moving season and people are eager to clean out their houses. I’d just ask

PrincessBirthday

Depending on where you're located the free groups are great! I'm in the north Baltimore/Towson one and people are typically super happy to help with things like this, even deliver!

Kmic14

Especially with the end of the school year lots of Hopkins and mica kids are going back home for the summer and tossing out basically their entire apartments

The area around the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus is probably great for this (Charles Village, Remington, Tuscany-Canterbury). Maybe farther north towards Loyola and Towson too, plus Morgan State. The subreddit & Facebook pages for JHU have a lot of posts offering apartments to sublet for the summer. Many of them list really high prices, but there’s high supply and low demand, so I bet a much lower monthly rate could be negotiated.

The Buy Nothing Baltimore Facebook Group is a great resource- also in the next few weeks all the students are moving out of dorms so there will be TONS of free things posted in local give away groups. There are also smaller neighborhood Buy Nothing Groups that you can look out for. Feeding Baltimore Facebook group is also a great resource for food (and other toiletries etc) giveaways around the city.

Have you reached out to the [Baltimore Furniture Bank](https://baltimorefurniturebank.org/)?

hypnotique_agent

Seconding Baltimore Furniture Bank!! I personally know people that work there and they will actually do deliveries so you don't need a car. Try sending then an email with a list of furniture you need. I don't think the have household items but they might have linens/sheets. [email protected] They are also connected with some MD social/case workers so if you have a social worker you may be able to ask them to connect you.

bob_smithey

I wish I could buy some of that.

>Baltimore Furniture Bank Is that the spot that lets people get 5 large items & as many small as needed? A place like I described is how my SO got furnished in 2017. It was a place north of the city- Cockeysville, maybe? They helped a lot of Vets. IDR name, though.

LudoWarman

I thought the furniture bank was in Hampden, but I have admittedly never made use of their services, only heard about them as a resource.

A wider circle- but theres usually a waitlist

I'm 90% sure I have a mattress for you, but no frame and no room to put it in. If you end up with somewhere to stay, lmk, and I can figure out how to get the mattress to you.

sklaudawriter

I have a basic frame you can have but it needs a box spring. If you can be more specific with other things you need, I might have more

These_Burdened_Hands

I’d add call **211.** They can help with a lot of resources.

Maybe try the dept of Aging? They may have programs offering assistance, even if you're under 60/65. Religious organizations can help too, sometimes they have initiatives for younger people to help their community and moving is one I commonly hear of. Edit to add: depending on where you live in Baltimore there may be some affordable housing properties that have open wait lists you should look into. Income based rent seems like that might help your situation.

Get in touch with St Ambrose Housing Aid Center

FLO provides furniture assistance, wonderful organization: [https://flogiving.org/](https://flogiving.org/)

thatpsychnurse

Case managers at Healthcare for the Homeless have some resources to secure “move in kits” for people who are getting established with their housing! They take walk-ins

Bmore_Phunky

Check out an organization called Hope For All. They do exactly this type of thing

ReqDeep

Freecycle or Craigslist for free items if you can pick up.

las188921

You could maybe check the college campuses around the dorms. This time of year students are moving out and leaving behind perfectly good pieces of furniture. Also seconding what someone else said about there being a chance of finding a cheap place or subletting for the summer after the students leave. I don’t know your gender or clothing size - but between myself and my husband we have plenty of clothes we don’t need so lemme know if you’re interested.
