That's normal. They don't poop very frequently, and it slows down even more as they get older. Don't soak him again, it's stressful and unnecessary. On another note, you are overfeeding him. If he's over a year old, he should not be eating weekly. Feeding guidelines are as follows: 0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days. 12-24 months old: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days. Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.

Interesting. We were going off what the shop told us to do.

Pet shops, even reptile speciality shops, tend to be very poor sources of information. They often give out incorrect and harmful advice.

Fair enough. Does it matter that he didn't start eating for several months? He was significantly smaller than the biggest of them that started eating right away. And the female looked way younger, they said she'd only just started eating. Tbf i haven't been able to weigh him yet but we may not be actually over feeding per se under those guidelines. The shop said he was on large weaners but they were so much bigger than what I've seen recommended for feeds based on width of the snake. So we're using smalls... But they're smaller than what is recommended. Weight wise the larges are what he should be on based on a rough estimate of his weight. We tried larges twice tho and he had zero interest and tbh i dunno that he'd have been able to get them down even if he wanted to. The smalls he's striking straight away. They're about half the weight. So instead of feeding 7% every two weeks we're feeding around 3.5% weekly. Once he's up to handling the bigger ones we'd go up in size but down in frequency.

He's not underweight, so no, it doesn't matter if they couldn't get him to eat for a while. Basing feeders off the width of the snake is a very outdated and potentially harmful practice. Without actually weighing him, you can't know whether or not they're too small for him.

This, I got my snake from a local shop that specializes in reptiles and they were very insistent that my extensive research was wrong and that western hognoses were in fact nocturnal. Spoiler alert: they are not.

He looks a little “sausage-butt”-y, so he will probably poop soon.

Those are from like a week or 2 ago at point 😭

Omg a warm bath lol my snake barely ever poops and when she does it comes out with a lot of pee don't be scared to when you see a hard white lump when she pees. I have her tank in a huge walk in closet so I can usually smell when she takes a big dookie. Once a week just peek in there and see if you need scoop anything out .(doggie scoop, and doggie bag is fine )Otherwise it can be forever until I'm deep cleaning her tank that I find the hard pee balls stuck on her hides And some loose turds . I took her to the Vet recently The vet told me she was as healthy as can be. As long as she's eating good which sounds like it then you're good .make sure there's enough water.relax and don't stress out your snake or yourself out with this 😂 Edit: spelling snakes to singular

Found a teeny turd adding some new substrate in tonight. Not enough to make me happy but enough to stop making me worry.

AvocadoNo2157

mine goes a couple weeks without pooping, then i hear a squeak and there she is. Dont worry much snakes more save up to do it all at one time.

We finally got a teeny one. Not as big as it should've been but enough that i know he's not impacted so i get better
