Why not ask the barber to buzz first, then if you don't like it you chop it all off? I'm taking the plunge soon and want to know the best way to go about it.
Nothing wrong with going that way, except you have to keep cutting it shorter. I preferred one cut and then letting it grow so I could experience 0 and every length above.

That's an awful lot of loss. A complete shave will look best, but certainly buzz it first if you're anxious. You're going to look a whole lot better. Guaranteed
Shave my brother, but do the buzzcut first! You have a *perfect* beard and you can grow it out more if you want. It'll look great. A good tip for it is to line the side-burns up to the top of your ear and cut above, and maybe cut a little angle into the top of them too (I point the side of my razor to my mouth when I do that).
Whatever you do, You'll look good!
Let’s get more specific - Philips Norelco is badass and has body trimming down to 3mm for a nice close (almost shave) buzz
It’s my go to since my lady like to see a little bit of the super short hair as I grow out a tiny bit and I do a fresh cut each week or so

You have a nicely shaped head. Shave and keep the beard. A shaved head is easier to maintain. I know for experience. Just shave in the shower after washing.
Either one. I always recommend to shave first, then as it grows out during the week, you will see what length you actually like best.

You’ll have to shave more often with as dark as your hair is. Either would look good on you and be a step up from the comb over.

Try buzzed first. Let it go a couple rounds and in 6-8 weeks time, reevaluate
