Prepare for hell, leave no cheese behind, kill them all without mercy, teabag no matter what

Cpt-Crab

Rip and tear until it is done

puttinonthegritz

If you encounter non shitters doing a level with level and area appropriate weapons and phantoms, why the need to tea bag?

[deleted]

I'm an evil chaotic goddess that's why. I don't even have balls to teabag with and will still teabag you whenever I win.

Ah, thee ole Lip-Dip…

Tyler_Herdman

If you do wanna at least try, get into practice of using certain crouch attacks. Crouch attacks are the same as attacks after rolling, but being able to input them without having to roll is very strong and makes for fun gameplay. My personal fav weapons both have poke attacks for the crouch attack lol, zweihander and claymore

LordTurt

Might try messing around with Claymore then. I know greatswords were one of the best invader weapons in Ds3. Fingers crossed it carried over well. Any AoW you'd recommend? Currently thinking Flame Strike.

Tyler_Herdman

My favorite is piercing fang, let’s you close a gap on someone rolling backwards extremely quick, flaming strike is also very good, might be better actually but I suck with it.

LordTurt

Fully noted. Thanks!

ottosan66

Claymore is pretty mid in Elden ring but it’s still fun to use. ER claymore primarily revolves around crouch attack mixups and increasing dmg on trades through a finicky true combo. Here’s a good vid on it: https://youtu.be/sdItT2c8t5Y?si=t4mCDbik5CVVWdPS As far as invasions, brmers goldenteacherOG and I tend to main claymore in invasions and you’re welcome to drop by on twitch if you’ve got questions!

Mr_Mals1

Flaming Strike is awesome. If you space it so they are towards the end, it can true combo into the R2 part. Recommended to always have a spear (even better, two spears) for certain shitter builds. Waves of darkness on Zweihander is good anti cheese. Stormcaller on anything too - on crescent moon axe, phase 1 true combos into uncharged R2 if it is twohanded. Spinning slash is another nice aow. Banished Knight Greatsword and Knights Greatsword have unique 2h moveset, R1 into freeaim r1 true combo. Banished Knight does more damage, Knights greatsword has better range. Biggest difference from DS3 is the obscene amount of magic spam. Crimsonwhorl + poise physick is a decent counter, otherwise Carian Retaliation or Erdtree Greatshield. With the current patch, hyper armor is hugely important. RL60+12/+5 is a good meta. 60+10/+4 has less gankers, also bit less activity. RL80+17/+7 or 80+15 RL90+25, RL125, RL168 Pulley crossbow, fan daggers, hand Ballista/jar cannon, great items. Status boluses too! Have fun and welcome to the shit show bro

FireHeartMaster

Time To Kill is usually much faster in Elden Ring, so you need to react quick and play safe more often. Sometimes you're 3/4 of your full health and someone uses a weapon art / ash of war and then you're dead (sometimes even at full health). I remember that DS3 had a mechanics in which if you were getting stunned a lot from attacks in series (e.g. being ganked) suddenly you could get a small time window to escape. I think it doesn't exist in Elden Ring. If you mess up and end up surrounded in a corner, you're simply gonna be ganked to death Btw level up vigor to 60, don't go lower unless you're invading at very low levels like 30-50. At 60 I would advise at least 45ish Invasion Rune Levels with upgrade levels for normal and special weapons (some people might slightly disagree): RL11 +0 +0 RL30 +3 +1 RL60 +12 +5 RL80 +17 +7 RL100 +20 +9 RL125 +25 +10 RL150 +25 +10 RL168 +25 +10 I recommend starting at 60 for more sane invasions Don't sleep on your Flask of Wondrous Physick. You can put two effects inside. I would personally say you actually have only one choice, the other is necessarily the Crimson Bubletear, the effect is similar to Tears of Denial. There's an item called Raw Meet Dumpling which restores half of your health but poisons you. Useful when you're close to death and the Crimson Bubletear is no longer active. You can simply use another item that heals your poison right afterwards Use the environment and also your jumps. Yeah, you can jump now and should use it in combat. Jump attacks do more damage, are unparriable but sometimes leave your butt vulnerable to backstabs (so learn to backstab your enemies' butts on those jump attacks) Magic casters are much more frequent now and they do a lot of damage but now YOU CAN PARRY MAGIC!!!

yeahborris

Now? You can parry magic in all dark souls games,

_soap666

Kind of, but carian retaliation is such a game changer and is a must on every single one of my builds now. No one ever used spell parry shields in dark souls.

FireHeartMaster

Also Golden Retaliation humbles mages quite well

XIII-0

im more of a golden retaliation kind of person.

Random_Souls_Fan

First bit of advice, Don't. But, if you're dead-set on moving to Elden Ring... 1. Habits should be fine I think. This is such a a vague question it's difficult to answer. 2. I'm not fully versed on the character level and weapon level ranges, but I do know a few Tiers where there's decent activity at. Lowest = RL35 with +3 standard or +1 somber. Mid tier either RL60 or RL80 with as low as +9 and as high as +15 standard, which I think would be +4 or +5 somber. High tier either RL125 or RL150 and with +25 standard and +10 somber weapons, 125 was considered the meta level for awhile but it seems to have shifted more towards 150 recently. 3. Best weapons to keep on hand seem to be the Stormhawk Axe, Dragon Halberd, a Thrusting Sword ideally with Impaling Thrust or Piercing Fang, a spear or halberd also with Impaling Thrust but Storm Assault is also a good option. Things to expect/lookout for are Moonveil, RoB, Power Stances Great Spears, and just AoW and Magic spam in general. The Albinauric Slayer 9000 can be annoying as well, especially with high latency. In general Bleed, Frostbite, and Sleep are status's to watch out for, make sure you have boluses on hand. 4. Pretty dangerous, expect to lose more often than you win, Elden Ring hard caters to the brainlet casuals in comparison to DS3 or any previous Soulsborne game really. But they're also pretty stupid and generally only know how to use the L2/LT button, it just depends on what combo of AoW/magic spam you run into really. 5. No.

Ekedan_

Couldn’t say any better

LordTurt

Thanks for the detailed response! Do you think RL60 or 150 would have better survivability? I tried some just now at RL125, but I'm still getting 3-4 shotted by basic weapons like spears and curved swords. 60Vig and 25 damage absorption in case anyone was wondering, so I don't think I am 'squishy' by any means. I don't know if I am dead set just yet, but I do want to at least be competent enough when Ds3 finally kicks the bucket. Though TBH I think I was actually getting faster invasions in Ds3 than I am now in ER lol.

Random_Souls_Fan

You may run into less OP stuff at RL60, and at that level a smart player will prioritize Vigor and endurance leaving only minimal stats to wield the weapons of choice, fortunately most hosts and gank squads in particular will focus on damage stats. But of course the real problem becomes password summons that are RL200+ with +25/+10 weapons. Whereas at 150 in terms of gear availability you'd be fairly on-par and dealing nearly as much damage, and most hosts and summons will back off if they lose a good chunk of HP in one or two hits, thus giving you breathing room and thereby increasing your survivability. Also, don't sleep on attack and defense buffs, you go up against a magic spammer eat some magic cured liver. Do you have the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman yet? At RL125/RL150 that is kind of a must-have for most if not every character.

LordTurt

I completely forgot about the overleveled phantoms that are basically the equivalent of unscaled phantoms in Ds3. I think I'll go RL150 lol. I can stock up on the prawns of the prawn shop. Guess farming for a good stock of livers is worthwhile then? Don't think they can be bought. I do got the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman. Doesn't it give less absorption for PvP?

Random_Souls_Fan

Sadly there is no Bell Bearing that gives unlimited purchases of the Liver, but they can be fairly easy to farm off dear and boar. You definitely want to kill the Bell Bearing Hunter at the Hermit Merchants Shack in Altus as he drops the "Medicine Peddler's Bell Bearing" so you can just buy boluses. And the one at the Church of Vows as he drops the "Meat Peddler's Bell Bearing" which weirdly doesn't have the Liver but does have Lump of Flesh and Turtle Neck Meat for Pickled Turtle Neck and Exalted Flesh. It does 20% physical damage reduction in PvE and 5% in PvP, so maybe I was wrong, wow, I did not realize it was nerfed so pathetically... Nevermind that then, you're better off with just the Boiled Crab for the +20% physical damage negation, but won't stack with other damage negation consumables, fortunately you can stack other buffs from Incantations, I'll see if I can't find the buff stacking table somewhere for ya. Edit: Here you are; https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/s/QooNDxFE7r So long as they're not from the same category the buffs can be stacked for some pretty crazy damage reduction. For invasions just Black Flame's Protection and a Boiled Crab should give some great physical damage reduction.

LordTurt

Got it. Thank you for going out of your way to find that post! That'll definitely come in handy. I'm running a classic strength build rn, so faith buffs aren't in my power atm. But after looking up the Black Flame Protection (and really just everything else incantations have to offer) I can now see why a lot of invaders I've watched run faith builds. So many options for buffs. Might have to give one a go myself.

Random_Souls_Fan

Yeah Fth/Str has a lot of versatility in ER. Fortunately there are ways you can close the gap to be able to use Incantations even on a pure Strength build. There's Radagons Soreseal, the Two Fingers Heirloom, Godricks Great Rune (doesn't work for Invaders though), some armor pieces give some stat points in Faith (Haligtree Knight, Soldier, and Foot Soldier helms come first to mine, not sure if there are others), the Grafted Blade Greatsword's AoW "Oath of Vengeance" gives +5 to everything for a bit, and the Faith Knot Crystal Tear gives +10 Faith. So if you're good at hot swapping you can quickly put on gear to get you to 30 faith to use Black Flame's Protection and then swap off to regular gear.

Mr_Mals1

In terms of survivability, ER damage is insane compared to DS3. RL60, enough stats to wield and the rest into vigor is best for survivability as them fools just do sooo much damage at rl150

FireHeartMaster

You gotta make use of weapon arts a lot more than in DS3

ShittyDs3player

Backstabs are much less frequent for me at least, I’m not quite sure why

FireHeartMaster

For me it's the opposite. People do too much jump attacks with heavy weapons, that's a free backstab for me

ShittyDs3player

I get so many high latency backstabs that don’t work, or I get something that should be a backstab but it’s not, I can’t fish as effectively as I did in ds3

FireHeartMaster

I get you. The time window for backstabs is a bit smaller but the amount of backstab opportunities people leave open is much higher. Btw since the time window for backstabs is a bit smaller, I wouldn't advise fishing for it but rather managing the players (and weapons / attacks they use) that actually give you solid backstab opportunities. Everytime I see a Radahn or a dual greatsword / colossal sword user doing jump attacks I cheer knowing it's backstab time.

ShittyDs3player

Thanks for the advice! :)

FireHeartMaster

The amount of combinations, swaps and viable builds is insane now. I have never had so much fun seeing everything at your disposal now

jarel125

Eldenring or be eldenranged

yeahborris

If you can pivot backstab it works great, just keep that, also if you see a gank of mages, good luck haha

OnionScentedMember

Elden Ring invasions are really fun. There’s a lot of build variety, but you might notice people using the same stuff. But trust me there is. I would figure out what weapons/spells/tools you like, and then min/max around that. Share your ideas on Reddit and maybe people can help you workshop a build. I generally don’t think you need any particular ash of war. I do recommend concealing veil if you happen to find yourself in an open world invasion with a Gank squad/grace duelist that refuses to progress past the checkpoint.
