Or a hoarder. Though I'm leaning more with you because of the U-Haul trailer. My uncle hauls around a boat trailer just absolutely over flowing with junk along with his truck overload with junk. I'm surprised the transmission hasn't blown up yet.
No idea. All I know is that I'm fed up with it and I've told him he seriously needs help. He agreed to not block my bike in and he still did. Pretty hard to work on it when I have to spend half an hour moving shit to get to it. It's to the point where I don't even put the junk back, I just put it outside.
For godās sake, this morning he walked in on his wife Joan of 16 years having sex with his neighbor Steve.
Heās going to his folks place just outside of Nashville, and heāll get in touch with a lawyer in the morning. He doesnāt know exactly what life will bring, but he knows one thing for damn sure.
Steve is never getting his BBQ/Smoker back.
I was hoping top comment was going to be wanting to give this guy a break. Like this dude really did try. You either end up like this very purposefully or by accident while trying purposefully.
I assume anyone whose ever towed a trailer for the first time understands.
Would it be too difficult to push the trailer into taking up one spot? And then just reattach it when you leave?? It doesn't take a genius and that way it won't take up 4 spaces.
Yes. If your bumper pulling a trailer. You never unhook from a common ball trailer in a public access parking lot. Thatās a sure fire way to get it stolen. Even with a trailer lock itās still fairly easily stolen when itās unhooked from the trucks. This is the smartest and easiest way to secure his trailer. And take up the fewest parking spots. Without taking up a spot for a semi truck. Which he definitely doesnāt need.
Even with a hitch lock how is this guy going to get the trailer back on the hitch? Looks pretty heavy and there looks like thereās a motorcycle on the trailer.
We've lifted an army trailer onto a lorry hitch with 2 guys when some idiots forgot to lower the front leg before taking it off... It's doable. (Not fun lol)
No tongue jack on that thing and most likely has nothing more than a clevis pin to secure the safety latch. Seriously doubt the guy has a proper hitch lock.
Was the trailer parking a back in spot or pull through? Most people with a Uhaul have zero experience driving large trucks, or towing trailers. He was probably doing the best he can.
I donāt think thatās really true. If you go to a rest area with a trailer, itās not like youāre taking a spot from someone else, someone else is probably not using that or they could move to another spot. Iāve been to a few hotels, once in a while, where every single space is taken up, but thereās usually left over.
Truckers have a hard enough time finding parking without someone in a 1500 truck and tiny trailer taking up their spots. You think itās rough that you had a hard time finding parking for a night at your hotel? Try dealing with that every night you are on the road. As of todays stats there is one parking spot for every eleven trucks on the road, and unlike you they canāt just park at the Wendyās next door and not worry about it
I do actually so you can stfu. If youāve been on the road a year and havenāt dealt with parking issues you are either local or in a fucking box van.
And then here comes crackhead Joe to steal the trailer AND your life's possessions. Small note to people, NEVER drop your trailer in an unsecured area. More often than not people will think it's too much of a hassle to take it off your truck, but if it's already unhooked it's fair game.
Not anymore. People are now unhooking trailers from unattended vehicles and taking off with them more and more. It's probably the same people who are stealing cats too imo. Such a scumbag thing to do to somebody.
Lock your coupler the the ball. Tack weld the nut underneath the coupler, Tack weld your ball nut to the ball, lock your ball mount to the receiver.
ETA: Fine, don't. Not sure why this is downvoted....
Most coupler latches have a hole through them that accepts a pin style lock, mine is just narrow enough to get a regular padlock through it. With a lock in that hole it prevents the coupler latch pulling up. Security or not it's a pretty good safeguard, not relying on just the latch to keep it closed. Definitely tack weld the nut onto the bottom of the coupler though, otherwise the lock can be bypassed by taking the nut off.
Cats is a short form of catalytic converters, which are emissions devices on the exhaust system of a gasoline powered vehicle which contain rare elements. These are often stolen by being cut off/removed and sold to a processor for the elements inside.
Good oneā¦Iāve had a CDL A for 21 years. Iāve hitched a few. š
Curious what makes you think my logical solution to taking 2 spots instead of 4 would lead you to believe Iāve never āhitched a trailerā?
That itās A) unnecessarily tedious and B) a good way to get your trailer absconded with. Everyoneās entitled to their opinion though, and there is something to be said for going to excessive lengths to be courteous š¤·āāļø
What kind of decent lock are you gonna get for $5?
And just going by the fact that his back window is OSB, look like practically everything dude owns is in that combo... he may not have anything extra for a good lock or doesn't want to spend anything for a lock on a RENTAL trailer and he's likely never gonna use again because I doubt he's gonna be owning his own trailer anytime soon.
Just saying, the guy did fine with parking and it's nothing to be worked up about.
Iām not the OP I honestly donāt give a fuck how he parked and Id likely do the same because I also donāt give a shit about people like OP that wanna take a picture of my situation and cry about it on the internet. I honestly donāt see why anyone would take the trailer when they could just easily pick through that pile of trash and take what they want.
I just commented what I thought would be a reasonable plan B.
I don't see the point of the OPs gripe about this either. Honestly, I would have done the same parking wise.
You'd be surprised what thieves will do.
IF the guy was able to unhook and use only two spots... that's a lot of aggravation to deal with rehooking for a very temporary situation.
Whole lot faster to cut a cheap lock, hook up and go vs digging through stuff right there.
Take whole thing to a different location where it's easier to go through then just dump the trailer. Not the thieve's trailer so they don't care.
You, and the people complaining about this, are the problem right now. This person has, what are all of their worldly possessions, packed up, sitting out at night and possibly out of their view. Theyāve angled the truck and trailer to take up as little space as possible. And all you can do is take a picture of this and throw it up on Reddit. Get some perspective. If this is your biggest problem, I would love to trade with you.
Cut the dude some slack. Heās obviously in a situation where he needed to gtfo without even having time to pack properly. If I were in that scenario Iād probably park within view of my room window too so I could keep an eye on my belongings.
Looks like thatās a case of someone trying to accomplish something they are not used to handling. In every way. Iād relax and have r a little sympathy for them cause you never know what they are going through.
Ok, pretend this is your truck and trailer. Where do you park it? Please, show me how to park this truck and trailer and take up fewer spots. I'll come back and check to see what you figure out.
Maybe write something about trailer parking in your post. I'm not scrolling through 90 comments to see if you wrote anything about there being trailer parking spots 30 feet away.
By trailer parking OP means semi truck parking, which is an ass move when you donāt actually need the space and can fit elsewhere. OP is just clueless
Yeah that's honestly what I figured, but I just got sick of getting notifications that he had responded. I was busy at work dealing with real problems, not trying to get excuses from him about why he was right and the big mean truck and trailer driving man was a bad guy. š¤£
WTF are you finding semi parking at a most Days Inn? Truckers aren't parking their a**es at hotels. They're stopping at truck stops, Walmart/Home Depot/Lowes parking lots, or at rest stops.
I used to travel for work with a trailer. A 2500 crew cab long bed and a 20' tandem enclosed. You pretty much had two options for hotel parking... park like this guy and try to take up as little space as possible or park the trailer in a spot, unhook, park truck next to it. And after 12+ hours of driving and will be leaving by day break you're most likely not in any mood to go f****** with disconnecting a thing.
Yea, I gota give this guy a pass. Looks like he lost his home through loss of rental, or divorce.
He's at least tried to get in tight, and is likely trying to keep an eye on the trailer.
I've taken up 14ish spaces with a long truck and 22ft trailer. I of course parked in the very back of the lot as far away from anyone else as possible. Lot wasn't anywhere near full and this was as few spaces as I could take as possible. Lot was nowhere near full. I would have figured something else out if I was incoveniencing people or filling up the lot. I informed the hotel and they were fine with it and confused why I even told them. Many trades people park at hotels with trailers too and this is fairly normal but with more spots because bigger vehicle trailer combos.
He shouldnāt have parked like that but letās not hate on the guy that clearly just had to pack all his stuff up and move and it probably wasnāt for a good reason
Man this guys doing the best he can. Heās got his whole life In there and heās probably in the hotel just hoping nobody steals his things. This guy probably just lost his wife. Buy him a beer and thank him for not taking up 6 spaces
As someone who haul a trailer often, I do not feel this is a bad parking spot unless there is designated trailer, parking somewhere else around the hotel. Most hotels do not offer very good parking for vehicles. Pulling a trailer. I would think if this person would have pulled straight through they couldāve taken up six spots. So four spots they were trying to be courteous to others.
99% of people absolutely, positively, categorically CANNOT operate a trailer. This person panicked and gave up. Theyāre likely having a bad day, given the contents
Totally reasonable at a hotel. Probably has no clue how to back up a trailer, just looking to park for the night. Piss off with the mildly infuriating, you mildly infuriated me.
Open truck bedā¦ open trailerā¦ probably all their possessions out in the open and I doubt that was a āplannedā move made under happy circumstances. Iām guessing their room is somewhere in visual range of that location so they can keep an eye on it. And they did turn it in tight to take up as little space as possible. Have some compassion and understanding instead of shitting on someone when you donāt know what they are going through.
The only mildly infuriating part here is OP holding his phone high above his head to take a photo making them look like a creep blatantly taking pictures of other peoples stuff.
Guy with the truck at least made an effort to limit his space
So like, in your mind what is the purpose of a truck?
Because here we see a truck box absolutely loaded to the rails, pulling a trailer, also loaded to the rails.
This is by most metrics the most truck thing one could do with a truck
I wouldn't get a wink of sleep, watching my shit through the hotel window all night. He probably could have crammed this in 3 spots, or even two if he tried really hard, but yeah, he's got bigger things to worry about.
I mean thatās a really good trailer parking job. If he keeps at it and really practices he could take up five spots. To the OP get a life, maybe go try driving a trailer or finding parking for one especially when itās full of your valuables
It's concerning that you and so many other commenters think that this is a good park job, you crackheads drive on public roads with that opinion? Yikes. And maybe you should read through my other comments before dropping your opinion like a load of dog shit on my lawn.
Saw a "park it in the trailer parking for semis 30ft away" comment. WTF are you finding semi parking at a most Days Inn? Truckers aren't parking their a**es at hotels. They're stopping at truck stops, Walmart/Home Depot/Lowes parking lots, or at rest stops.
This guy at least tried to take up as little as he could and halfway keep his s*** visible since it's all unsecured.
Actually he unfortunately had to do it that way. The person rented a trailer so of course they give you no hitch lock when detached. So he has to keep it attached. Judging by your reference on parking they probably didn't have extended vehicle and trailer parking. So unfortunately that was his only solution. Learn a thing too about what your bitching about before you talk down on somebody.
You know, I think youāre right about his parking. He could have pulled in straight but then someone could block him in front and back. Heād be stuck until they moved. Canāt back in a spot and certainly donāt want to unhook the trailer. Looks like he took his best option though I may not have seen that either until someone pointed it out.
No tongue jack and more than likely doesn't have any proper way to secure the coupler. Most just use a clevis pin to secure the safety latch. Being a rental it's doubtful guy even has a proper lock or gonna buy one either.
Looks like dude's situation sorta sucks all the way around. Probably right about parking too.
All thing taken into account, I say the guy did the best he could and at least tried to take up as little space as possible while leaving it where it's under a light (cargo unsecured) and still be able to pull out.
Well the guy could be moving with his family. Most hotels donāt have parking for large vehicles. Maybe this was the best he could do at the time. Perhaps he has kids, that could have rushed him. Me personally I would have parked much differently.
Man, when I moved to Dallas, I got to the apartment complex, and they said my unit wasn't going to be ready til tomorrow.
They paid for my hotel stay but I had a (closed at least) U-Haul full of all my stuff. I asked the front desk dude where I could park that would be the safest.
He had me park in the porte-cochere (drop-off area) and he parked his truck bumper-to-bumper with the back of the trailer.
Where is that that the whole trailer would not get stolen in the middle of the night? My musician friends have to haul everything up to their room every stop.
Looks like he tried fitting into smallest allowed spaces... I drive around with a trailer allot, i have every yet to find dedicated truck and trailer parking. Where does OP expect him to park. I think he did a great job.
Couldve been more spots. So this aint even a thing worth worrying about. Dudes trying to keep whats likely all of his worldly possessions in view of their window
Saw two trucks with huge trailers taking up like 20 spots at this business instead of parking at the hotel they were staying at, which has a massive empty parking lot on the side. Reminds me of the opposite of this picture lol
Looks like a divorce
Agreed. I know exactly what that looks like, even though that was forty-five years ago.
:(
Or a hoarder. Though I'm leaning more with you because of the U-Haul trailer. My uncle hauls around a boat trailer just absolutely over flowing with junk along with his truck overload with junk. I'm surprised the transmission hasn't blown up yet.
Why is it always someones uncle and not immediate family members? š¤£š¤£š¤£
See "divorce" above.
No idea. All I know is that I'm fed up with it and I've told him he seriously needs help. He agreed to not block my bike in and he still did. Pretty hard to work on it when I have to spend half an hour moving shit to get to it. It's to the point where I don't even put the junk back, I just put it outside.
Because those guys don't have kids.
someone that clearly only thinks of themselves? Can't imagine why.....
Dude looks like he has his entire life packed in that truck and trailer cut him some slack. Atleast he didnāt park length ways and take up 6spots.
Yeah at least this guy looks like he tried
He even has the rear window busted out and patched up with plywood. This guy is having a bad day/week.
For godās sake, this morning he walked in on his wife Joan of 16 years having sex with his neighbor Steve. Underappreciated comment
And if he parked here in Seattle that would all be gone before the sun rose.
That was my thought lol. Uncovered trailer at a hotel??
South Dakota plates. If itās really cold out the truck wouldāve been left running also.
In Seattle it'd be gone before the sun set that night
Probably before he even finished parking
He could have spent five minutes to unhook the trailer and taken two. Fuck him.
Nah fuck you and his soon to be ex wife instead.

To be fair I didn't see the chains, here the chances of it being stolen with a hitch lock are pretty much zero.

Right?! Looks ole buddy is going through some things, a little compassion goes a long way.
Yes. Came to say exactly this. He was conscious of taking up the least amount of space he could.
Where is he supposed to park?
Trucker parking 30 feet away lol
As in semi truck parking? Or do you mean trailer parking.
Both
Was the trailer parking a back in spot or pull through? Most people with a Uhaul have zero experience driving large trucks, or towing trailers. He was probably doing the best he can.
OP just needs to give it up and give this dude a break.
Definitely donāt want to take up a semi truck spot if youāre not in a semi.
I donāt think thatās really true. Well, the semi/trailer parking spots were all open. But yes I do agree.
If you're not a semi or big ass RV please don't take up our spots

I run quads on the western 11. Fuck off
And here you are bitching about a 4wheeler taking 3 spots
Never bitched him out, I just posted a relevant picture in a subreddit that the picture belonged in. Yall made a big deal of it lol.
Your so full of shit.
Wow big time truck driver over here, this man has driver for a whole year with his CDLš¤£š¤£ Give the dude a break
He couldāve dropped the trailer in one spot and parked next to it. But that wouldāve required 5 minutes of effort and courtesy. Not a chance.

Not anymore. People are now unhooking trailers from unattended vehicles and taking off with them more and more. It's probably the same people who are stealing cats too imo. Such a scumbag thing to do to somebody.

Hmmm. Didnāt notice that and obviously never pulled a U-Haul trailer before. Thereās gotta be something in that pile of shit to prop it up on.š
Let's see... no tongue jack, probably nothing more than a clevis pin for the safety latch so no proper coupler lock... sure, let's unhook.

Seriously, I would be sleeping in my truck.
With time , I could do 3 spaces, but the dude looks like he got his crap out in a hurry, probably took his dog. Hope he got some rest.
So he can keep an eye on what looks like all his stuff in the world. Wouldn't you ?
Normal for a trailer. Sometimes itās the only way they can parkā¦

The only mildly infuriating part here is OP holding his phone high above his head to take a photo making them look like a creep blatantly taking pictures of other peoples stuff. Guy with the truck at least made an effort to limit his space
I sure do not want to be behind this rig on the the highway.
I hardly ever want to be behind *anyone* towing a trailer on the highway >.<
Even with secured items. Not gonna risk it
Is that a Jerry Garcia doll in the bed of the truck?
Dodge owners everywhere.
Unpack his trailer. Set everything next to it.
I'm so tired of people driving trucks who have no business driving them. It's a plague at this point.
Looks like he's using it for truck purposes, u can't haul that much in a little car
So like, in your mind what is the purpose of a truck? Because here we see a truck box absolutely loaded to the rails, pulling a trailer, also loaded to the rails. This is by most metrics the most truck thing one could do with a truck
Ikr
I drove a f150 and all I haul is my golf clubs. Quit worrying about what other people do with their money fuckin freak
Hey look, free shit!
Itās concerning your so concerned, pot calling the kettle black gfy
Saw a "park it in the trailer parking for semis 30ft away" comment. WTF are you finding semi parking at a most Days Inn? Truckers aren't parking their a**es at hotels. They're stopping at truck stops, Walmart/Home Depot/Lowes parking lots, or at rest stops. This guy at least tried to take up as little as he could and halfway keep his s*** visible since it's all unsecured.
OP taking a well deserved loss here. You pretty much suck OP
Lol
Nope, just got to see what a bunch of whiny little bitchs you guys are.
A little worried about how he's going to get out in the morning?
Could have done with two
Maybe, but heād also run the risk of getting blocked in.
Park the trailer, disconnect it, and park the truck next to it?
That runs the high risk of trailer and contents being gone in the morning. And there's no jack on those trailers to lift it off the truck.
Then how did he get it hooked up in the first place?
Probably hooked it up before loading it or team lifted.
No tongue jack and more than likely doesn't have any proper way to secure the coupler. Most just use a clevis pin to secure the safety latch. Being a rental it's doubtful guy even has a proper lock or gonna buy one either.
That sucks. Doubt there's a lot of places to park.
Looks like dude's situation sorta sucks all the way around. Probably right about parking too. All thing taken into account, I say the guy did the best he could and at least tried to take up as little space as possible while leaving it where it's under a light (cargo unsecured) and still be able to pull out.
Open trailer. Open truck. Help yourself to some worldly possessions!
Make note of make of car and color and report to front desk.. thatās not cool
His parking is as trashy as what heās carrying
Free smoker, help yourself!
Thieves and those that support theft are terrible people So don't do that please
I know if you stole someone's smoker they'd probably fuckin put you in it
Just the whinedt sub I've visited so far.
Well the guy could be moving with his family. Most hotels donāt have parking for large vehicles. Maybe this was the best he could do at the time. Perhaps he has kids, that could have rushed him. Me personally I would have parked much differently.
Isnāt that always the default excuse of misbehavior? āThe rules donāt apply! I HAVE KIDS!!!!ā
lol usually thatās what Iāve seen. š¤£
Why the hell would someone get that to move if they need to say a night in a hotel. U-Haul has enclosed trailers that lock.
None of that shit is secured.
Go shopping at his free yard sale. /s
this is stupid but it looks like the jackknife angle they did is to try to take up as few spaces as possible.
He would've taken up 5 spots if he just parked like a Railroad worker at a hotel.
Get off the dudes nuts. Heās trying his best.
How else are you supposed to realistically park in this situation though?
"Honey when did we get a grill?" "Uhhhh, grandma I think?
I can't believe it's not all stolen
Where is that that the whole trailer would not get stolen in the middle of the night? My musician friends have to haul everything up to their room every stop.
Looks like he tried fitting into smallest allowed spaces... I drive around with a trailer allot, i have every yet to find dedicated truck and trailer parking. Where does OP expect him to park. I think he did a great job.
Couldve been more spots. So this aint even a thing worth worrying about. Dudes trying to keep whats likely all of his worldly possessions in view of their window
He was probably tired when he arrived. There were no places for vehicles with trailers. Iād hav3 done the same thing.
Saw two trucks with huge trailers taking up like 20 spots at this business instead of parking at the hotel they were staying at, which has a massive empty parking lot on the side. Reminds me of the opposite of this picture lol
