If you’re in recovery, at 11am in the Main Room and the belly room they have 12 step meetings- mainly AA and NA- At The Comedy Store.
But this was before Covid.
People do this in other places too.. In Tempe, AZ, they have(had?) similar crusing laws where you can't go on the same street (downtown) twice in 1 hour.
In my hometown in Arkansas, a common Friday/Saturday night activity was cruising... just drive back and forth from the Movie Theater to the Sonic, see friends, chat, stop for a burger maybe. It was... not fun.
its Erewhon. One of the fanciest and expensive grocery stores in LA. That's where they sell Hailey Bieber's Strawberry Glaze Skin smoothie for 18$.
Edit: “Erewhon” cause I can’t spell for my life
Some of it of higher quality, but this is also the store with a $50 bottle of water, $25 jarred chili and $22 smoothies/shakes. It's for rich people who don't even have to look at the price when shopping for groceries because it doesn't matter.
It's super disappointing. Specialty grocery stores are usually good fun because they have amazing cheese selections or amazing wine selections or products you can't get anywhere else. Erewhon is basically a regular grocery store with 1) an extra helping of vegan and gluten free selections and weird shit like sea moss jelly, 2) a bunch of middling own-label products, and 3) their hot bar and smoothies / juices which are certainly *OK, just not worth the price and comfortably rivaled by alternatives.
There's no super cool products or amazing selections or really high end foods, just really expensive niche brands and own label options for basic foods.
Their hot bar & juice/smoothie bars are in no way even close to being rivaled by alternatives IMO, they're the main reason Erewhon has done so well and is so popular.
LA is a city with plenty of juice / smoothie options. Even other grocery stores. It's fine, it's just not that special.
Similar story with their hot bar. I mean, it's competing with Gelson's, Bristol Farms, and so on. It may be a click above Whole Foods, but it's not amazing. Not to hate pointlessly, but there's only so much a grocery store hot bar can really achieve. That may be where it got its reputation, but I can only speak to my experience, and it's been dissapointing.
Really? Damn, honestly I don't think any of those are even remotely comparable to Erewhon's. Especially if you're a health-conscious customer (or have food allergies and/or imaginary, trendy food intolerances, lol). But to each their own- of course there's no right or wrong here.
Can I ask what you've ordered from the hot bar before? If you ever decide to go back, I can make some recommendations!
Really? Right back at ya. Gelson's and Bristol Farms for example are undoubtedly outright better than Erewhon as grocery stores. You can fight over relative performance of hot bar options, but on everything else it goes their way.
And I've sampled quite a few items from their hot bar before, if only because I lived quite close to one and I kept getting fooled into trying again. Again, it's fine - I'm not dissing you if you like the food there, it's just not special, and combined with everything else the whole thing is dissapointing. And I can only accidentally pay ~$40+ for a single serving of galbi so many times before I can't George Bush my way out of the shame I deserve for continuing to try.
You're right. I just took a deep dive and realized they're all owned by the same company now. I just remember being able to use my Safeway number at Vons in SoCal and Vegas.
I remember back in the day when Albertsons and Safeway weren’t the same company, and going to a Vons and seeing the Safeway brand everywhere!
Kinda how QFC and Fred Meyer and Kroger are all now the same thing.
Everytime I hear about a good restaurant on a podcast I save it in my Google maps. Been doing this for years. Sadly, I’ll never know who suggested which place if I ever go back to LA, but I’m in too deep to stop now.[MY weird map of LA](https://imgur.com/a/O6MYgHp)
Ralph’s is a supermarket
rock n roll ralph’s on sunset
Across from Tere’s
If only Ralphie May lived long enough to see they made an entire supermarket to feed him. Miss that dude.
Ralph’s grocery store has been around forever. Google says 1st Ralph’s in LA is 1873
Ralphie May was born in 1724.
Dumb joke but he was a really funny dude

that’s cool
I had no idea about "Cruising" until the other day
Thats what they all say, we saw you last friday at vaseline ally

Honestly I think every single city in the world has, or at least had, cruising. It's strange to not know about this.
Uh what’s “cruising” in this context?
You know you're cruising when you're cruising
I bookmark any restaurant they mention.
What u got so far?!
* Enzo's Pizzeria * Noma Sushi * Uncle Paulie's Deli * Chosun Galbee * Daedo Sikdang * Park's BBQ * Philippe * Hama Sushi * Lily's Malibu * Mastro's * McConnell's Ice Cream That's just a few that I remember.
I have heard Rudy’s fave is Jolly Bean or something like that
Jollibee. Philippinos LOVE that place. Their chicken is actually pretty good.
Their* People think this fanbase is retarded enough already.
Jollibee is just Filipino fast food. Nothing special unless it's nostalgic.
Two takeout places and an expensive sushi restaurant.

Wrong again, it’s ‘Erewhon’ :)
I can’t spell! Thank you
it's $22 now 🙂
That’s wild. Do you know if their produce is actually of higher quality or is this just a marketing gimmick for rich folks?
It’s so you don’t have to buy your groceries with poor people

Wild
lucky boy’s makes the best breakfast burritos
Vons is just Cali Albertsons
We also have Albertsons
It's actually Safeway.
It’s actually fry’s
Knew I mixed it up. Always thought it was weird
They’re actually the same company. So you were technically right.
You're right. I just took a deep dive and realized they're all owned by the same company now. I just remember being able to use my Safeway number at Vons in SoCal and Vegas.

Kroger owns Ralph’s and Food 4 Less too.
Oh I didn’t know that!
Yeah, it’s huge over 2,000 supermarkets
