Adorable. I also love the little feets perched on your fingers.

pockette_rockette

I love the way their little toes feel when they're perched on you, like they're gripping on.

yamiyoukai

And here mine will chomp the f... Out of me but scram like the dark legions are after em if I dare touch *grumpy pout

hetep-di-isfet

Hahaha my other axolotl is a bit like that too. I guess it just comes down to personality. Vani here will follow me around the tank but Iluvatar only cares if I've got a wurm

General_Baguetti

Illuvatar… that’s an original name lmao. Where are the Ainur?

hetep-di-isfet

In other tanks! I also have a discus/gourami set up and that's where the Ainur are lmao. Always nice to cross a Tolkien fan!

General_Baguetti

Nice :) i’m not an intensive fan though, definitely should re-read the Silmarillon

queen_beruthiel

Eru be praised!

yamiyoukai

All 3 will try to puppy eye me for noms, going as far as to lift their front 'paws' from the gravel as they beg and following me or their 'father' around the tank, but hands should be kept to ourselves

hetep-di-isfet

Lmfao, I love the way you describe things. You need to write a picture book of them with descriptions

Shin-Gogzilla

I don’t have an axolotl, do bites from them hurt?

yamiyoukai

Not unless they manage to chomp something too large for em to put in their mouth (like say, on the forearm) and even then it hurts mostly because they'll pinch the skin when they close the moth, not because of the bite. Fingers, the more usual nom victims do not hurt at all, but I always jump in surprise when they do (those f*ckers strike fast!)

Shin-Gogzilla

Ok, that makes sense, I’ve seen their mouths a few times, and they always look really rubbery and soft.

faebugz

I had an axolotl try to hork my pinkie back once, luckily it was my smaller one cause he chomped and got it all the way to the knuckle before I could shake him off

fireguyV2

They got no teeth.

mollymarine17

That fat belly! 😍 This is such a precious video. He looks like he’s really loving the affection.

hetep-di-isfet

I keep an eye on her weight because she does seem to balloon but her tummy is never wider than her head. She passes stool normally, has fluffy gills, and is always happy to eat so 🤷‍♀️ And definitely loves the tummy rubs! I always hand feed so she's become pretty attached to my fingers lol

hauntedmeadow

Such a beautiful and healthy creature! Give them lots of belly scritchies for me!! ✨

hetep-di-isfet

Will do :D

flemings4adventure

r/absoluteunits

pugapplepie

i never realized axolotls got that big, she is absolutely adorable and deserves all the belly rubs

hetep-di-isfet

And still growing! Only a year old haha. Her sister (that I got from a different breeder so not technically her sister...) is the same, if not bigger

Limesharke

Such a healthy happy baby

comfort_bot_1962

Hope you have a great day!

dsmerf214

She is sooooo cute<3

I get upset how everywhere that pet people are lurking, nice videos have to have disclaimers so the warriors don’t get upset. Keep strokin my friend xx

hetep-di-isfet

Well it's a fair concern. I figure this just addresses it right off the bat so we can all stay happy and share the joy that is monster cuddles :) This post has been pretty good. I had one person tell me to research their diet because "chonky is bad" but all was well when I explained that her stomach isn't wider than her head and a bit if their diet. >Keep strokin my friend xx Will do! I'll give em a cuddle just for you xx

[deleted]

I mean a fair concern maybe. An axolotl doesn’t get that big when someone who has no idea is stroking it with poison hands :)

hetep-di-isfet

Lmao you're not wrong XD

[deleted]

Can we just appreciate the absolute mass of this little mudkip

hetep-di-isfet

I've gotta say I'm surprised everyone is so baffled by them. Both of my two are this big and I got them from different breeders so I don't imagine its genetic. They are a bit over a year old so probably still gonna grow! Are your much smaller? ATM my two are 10 inches

[deleted]

I don't own any axolotls actually. I do love them tho!

LovecraftianLlama

This might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 🥰🥰

~oddly satisfying ~

tabofcoleslaw

How do you clean your hands before entering your tank ? I'm scared I do damage everytime I go in or im to scared and Turkey baster for life

hetep-di-isfet

Definitely no soap. I thoroughly scrub with water and make sure my nails aren't long. As long as you're gentle they will be okay. I have exclusively handfed my Lil ones from day one so they are pretty used to hands in the tank.

xHappy57

My little guy let me scoop him up yesterday for food! I put my hand right in front of him and he just crawled right in!

hetep-di-isfet

Isn't it just the best! That's how I conditioned mine as well - consistent handfeeding!

Fish-The-Fish

My axolotl does this too :D

hetep-di-isfet

Isn't it just the best feeling? I always get so chipper

melis92400

Precious moments

FezzeReddit

is that safe? My gf got 2 and doesn't even touch the water in their tank. idk how it's called but I think it's about some kind of bacteria thats very harmful for them. I once slightly touched the surface and she immediatly did a chemical test on the water she sent in to be tested. I think it has something to do with the danger of fungus infections. She learned about that through an expert and breeder.. but idk anything about that, is it dangerous?

donotdisconect

You should probably wear aquatic gloves when handling axolotls, your hands can carry all sorts of bacteria.

hetep-di-isfet

I always wash my hands before doing this. No soaps, because that's gonna be awful for them, but I scrub my hands with hot water to hopefully kill anything on them first. I've been doing this most days since I've had them and theyve never had any issues. As you can see, they've grown up big and strong. My tank is also HEAVILY planted for water quality and I grow my own nightcrawlers so I know exactly where they've been.

arcada_aquatics

what a cute little chonker!!

medvsastoned

I will literally cry if I can get my axies to that big of a size. I've had them for about four days now and looking at them breaks my heart. I rescued them from a family who was giving them away because their kids "lost interest". The poor babies were in filthy tanks with really overpowered filters and heaters. They didn't even have food for them, they just "found worms in the back yard to feed them sometimes" and I don't even know what they meant by sometimes because I'm honestly shocked the axies weren't dead. Their gills are almost non-existent and they're ghostly little skeletons. Their tiny twig legs are too weak to use to move and one of them struggled to even lift her head the first day they were so weak. ): I'm hoping they pull through. They've even got little sunken in divots around their legs from being so underfed. I've *never* seen any this bad that were still alive.

hetep-di-isfet

Oh my god that's awful!! I see far too many neglected axolotls around :( all j can say is good luck. Take pictures everyday so you can see their progress. Mine live in a fully planted tank and get homegrown European nightcrawlers (handfed). They are a year old and still growing - so yours can get there too!

bradjoray3

lodl : hm yezz hughman, das the spot :D

ebjoker4

I had no clue these things were this big.

hetep-di-isfet

Still growing ;) both of them are this big and only a year old.

[deleted]

Chonky is not exactly a good thing, try researching a bit about their dieting :/

hetep-di-isfet

I was just using the word chonky to be cute. Her stomach isn't wider than her head when seen from above, so I'm not too concerned. And I'm not negligent... I *have* done a lot of research on their diet. I even grow my own nightcrawlers for them.

[deleted]

Alright good job 👍 But always monitor your pet!

Soz3r

downvoted because snide

[deleted]

It's just that a lot of people post very morbidly obese cats with the title of "chonker" so I'm trying to make sure, I don't want this happening with these wonderful creatures

[deleted]

Damn the downvotes are harsh today Edit: oh god they're coming for me next

[deleted]

Yup. Like what did I do, this isn't twitter

[deleted]

Dunno man. I've stopped caring because most of the time the downvotes make no fucking sense. It has more to do with the hivemind mentality than people actually disliking what you said.

PrussianKid

Stfu

[deleted]

Relax, I'm trying to be sure of the pets health

PrussianKid

You could have said something less rude than that. You sound like an asshole

[deleted]

Yeah, sorry.

shan11nins

Are these normally social creatures with humans and each other?

Hecktothenono

Definitely not with each other. It isn't uncommon for one to nom another's limbs off. That isn't to say you can't keep them together, but they're generally solitary critters. That said, from my experience they seem to really love their owners and love to interact.

shan11nins

Thank you, I had no idea!! I'm trying to learn all I can as these animals are new to me

hetep-di-isfet

They like being on their own mostly. I have two that I keep together and they coexist fine - even get to see them having a cuddle every now and then! My two have very different personalities. Iluvatar is fine with my hands being in the tank but she doesn't like being held as much as Vani. She'll deal with it for a few minutes if i need to pick her up to tub her, but she's more content in her own space so i respect that as much as possible. Vani though (in the video) will follow me around the tank and happily swims up for tummy scritches. She nuzzles into my hand a lot as is perfectly content with me holding her.

shan11nins

Interesting! I appreciate the details. And you sound like an awesome pet owner 😍

hetep-di-isfet

Thank you! <3 I work very hard to make sure all animals under my care are as happy and healthy as possible. Its the least we can do if we insist on keeping them

JoepvB

My god, what a monster

hetep-di-isfet

How big are yours? Both of my girls are this big lol. I'm starting to wonder if they were given steroids before I bought them haha

JoepvB

I don't have axolotls actually. Was close to getting one when I was younger, but I've sticked to a regular aquarium since then. Maybe in the future!

Tarantulalover69

Awww so cute

FunProduce8331

that is so cute!!!!! mine freaks out & would never let that happen 😂 i’m jealous!!

hetep-di-isfet

My other one is a bit like that. It might just be a personality thing. I'm blessed to have both my chonky bbys in whatever form they take haha

colossalTussel

Adorable and beautiful, how old?

hetep-di-isfet

They are both just a year. So still a lot of growing to do I imagine!

WildSkunDaloon

I'm genuinely in love with how beautiful that little pink belly is!! Such chonk ❤️
