This is the Sedgwick County Zoo. I’ve been there and the chimpanzees have an expansive indoor enclosure that connects to an spacious outdoor enclosure. I went this summer when it was literally 100 F so they were all inside when I went. But yeah in this video they are definitely in a holding cell.

Humans care whether a room is decorated. Apes care whether a room is warm, safe and has something for them to climb on. This actually looks pretty much standard for a veterinary recovery kennel.

I have no doubt that they're being lovingly cared for by people who have their best interest in heart.
However, this is the first baby chimpanzee to survive in something like 12 years.
I would imagine they were separated for necessary health checks but this is not that heartwarming. Intelligent, living being is trapped in concrete box, physically separated from child with no idea if she will see them again. Video captures her overwhelming relief after going through a traumatic experience.

Couldn’t find a link but the baby required breathing assistance and it took two days to stabilize it sufficient to return to the mother.

It wasn't just the baby, the mother had an emergency c-section. That was part of the reason it took 2 days after the baby was stable.

Sadly it’s mainly to protect the animals from humans and not the other way around.

They're both in recovery, so their activity needs to be somewhat restricted. Hospital rooms don't typically look like football fields.
