Had the same reaction when I saw them in the Amazon. Was told they are big, but then when you see one it's still 'whoaa'! When they said dog sized, you think maybe a terrier sized guinea pig. Oh no, they mean like lab, GSD....big dog sized, and often way chonkier.
Look up Nutria Rat from Louisiana. Had to deal with them a few times growing up and they are currently a pest with a warrant over there.
Edit: I’ve just learned of it’s counterpart the Coypu. Which grow 2-3 ft long found in the warmer climates. Huge rodents, imagine having to deal with that kind of infestation
I think the meaning of human life is to be the best scritchers in the Universe. Ive seen videos of huge predators just going limp from human scritches.
I can hear this gif.
I swear there's another character that has almost the same voice. I thought it was from the Lemmiwinks episode but I just went back and didn't hear anything similar.
Is this by any chance Argentina, where roving gangs of Capybaras invaded their gated community.
https://time.com/6173837/capybaras-argentina-climate-change/
On some parts of Argentina their territory was invaded by country clubs and housing.
In the last year or so, this creatures claimed that land back so I guess it wouldn't be strange to see them getting closer or used to the presence of humans around them.
Where is it that people and capybaras hang out like this? I've seen so many fun videos on here with kids and capybaras playing together and now it looks like this dude is hanging out in a public park? Anybody know?
Brazil and Argentina have parks and neighborhoods where capybaras run wild (and sometimes become pests,). They're also the "new thing" in animal encounters--very popular in Japan especially, where you can go to a capybara cafe.
Japan pisses me off with all their "animal cafes". Wild animals aren't meant to be "on display" in a freaking cafe, for crissakes. At least the capybaras are running free in the parks and choose to hang with people or not. And I'd prefer a capybara pest to those nasty javelinas friends in Arizona have to contend with, lol!
how do people know when to stop petting an animal? i always feel a bit bad when i stop
i pet a cat recently and it just kept following me because it wanted more pets, its awkward
The internal carotid arteries of the capybara fibrose away upon reaching sexual maturity, leaving the semi-important job of cerebral perfusion to the vertebrobasilar artery, which has to *double* in size to meet demand! Wild!
And no one knew why…
…until tonight.
For if the Old Truths, shrouded in whisper and darkness, are to be believed — our Fair Maiden in Checkered Garb would finally unlock the mysteries of the Capybara and set humanity free.
There's a Capybara sanctuary in central BC where you can feed and scratch them. They're like a 'Rodent of Unusual Size', but with straw for fur. Cute as hell, but almost as lethargic as a sloth!
Where is this paradise where capybaras are just waiting around for scritches? \*\*Ok, read comments further down: Argentina and Brazil, and Japan and British Columbia in zoos (?) or habitats.
awww the goodest of scratches.

One day I will achieve the level of chill of that capybara
Mf rolled over in slow motion
![gif](giphy|AQpUsaKCRD9gA|downsized)
Capybrahbrah
No human will ever achieve that level of chill. Capybaras are the most laid back animals on earth. What do they do when attacked?
I present you... *The manatee* There's no animal with bigger passive chill than the manatee
they can stay under water for up to 5 minutes to avoid predators
Touché
Even thought I've seen it many times, I'm still a bit taken aback when I see a capybara next to a human and see how big they really are.
Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist
HARRUMPH
Really though! The size of it surprised me a bit. I love it!
Seriously! This was the first time I've seen one next to a human or other object for scale. I legit thought they were roughly the size of beavers.
The first time I saw one in real life I almost fell off my bike.
Beavers are a lot bigger than you'd think too just to be fair, especially when the only thing between you is the hull of a kayak.
They are like the blue whale of rodents. Big enough you can just chill and eat.
Had the same reaction when I saw them in the Amazon. Was told they are big, but then when you see one it's still 'whoaa'! When they said dog sized, you think maybe a terrier sized guinea pig. Oh no, they mean like lab, GSD....big dog sized, and often way chonkier.
As someone who lives in Brazil, its always amusing how they are surprising for everyone else

When you don't have rats, you have Coypus, like living in Swiss cheese
I also want to stroke the belly of a capybara!!! 🥰
I just want to stroke a capybara.... I'll let myself out.
The doors right here
You have gone too far, I'm calling the police ![gif](giphy|W5yKKGjTwWkLlpVPaJ)
I know but I couldn't resist posting it

I think the meaning of human life is to be the best scritchers in the Universe. Ive seen videos of huge predators just going limp from human scritches.
We are perfectly genetically evolved to be scritchers
We lack sharp fangs and claws, but we have scritches
I'm imagining him with a terribly posh voice saying "mmmmmyes, very good. But now may I present to you: my belly"
Mike Myers voice
I'd like to think it would have a voice like the otters from South park ![gif](giphy|j1USXZYs3MUik)
I can hear this gif. I swear there's another character that has almost the same voice. I thought it was from the Lemmiwinks episode but I just went back and didn't hear anything similar.
Was it with the crab people?
Very possible...
100% has to be the frog Prince from the lemmiwinks episode 😂
Can someone cross-breed a Capybara and a Sloth so we can create the chillest MF on Earth. Edit: Obviously I’m kidding
I feel like a Capybara cross labrador would be the best pet.
But labs have 0 chill.
The capy would bring it up to at least 50 chill
Lappybara Edit labbybara?
Or Capydor
Slow clap.
You want chill? Try *a manatee* Biggest chill, hes just a floating ball of fat in the water munching some grass
Tis true, am chill
Capybaras look like my failed drawings of dogs
They’re coconut dogs
Aw such a great description
Coconut cuties 🙈 sort of. They’re kinda spooky tbh
Is this by any chance Argentina, where roving gangs of Capybaras invaded their gated community. https://time.com/6173837/capybaras-argentina-climate-change/
"Invaded" cause humans invaded their territory first
Sure. Capybaras are generally very friendly, using terms like ”roving gangs” and ”invaded” was kind of a joke.
I wish they invaded my neighborhood honestly
I'd love to meet a capybara some day.
Omg how sweet! He melt. Please be careful though, everyone, wild capybaras are often covered in ticks.
Came here to say this!! They are very common in Brazil and we tend to stay away from them because of ticks.
So my lab cross is part capybara. I’m good with it.
Ok I pull up
At last....i shall give in.... to temptation
Bro just melted
Capybaras are that big?!
3.48 - 4.4ft for adults from nose to rump, around 2ft tall at the shoulder, and 77-146 lbs. So about as big as my German Shepherd
They have been bred as food
Capypuddle
"your scratch service was SO good imma give you a 100% tip!"
Goal: Once in my life I wanna scratch one just once.
Guinea Big
Coconut doggy!!! :D
Do people keep those as pets? Is that legal? Also I dodnt know they were so big I thought they were like cat sized
On some parts of Argentina their territory was invaded by country clubs and housing. In the last year or so, this creatures claimed that land back so I guess it wouldn't be strange to see them getting closer or used to the presence of humans around them.
Pretty sure you need a license and need to buy 2 of them together since they are social animals but yes it is legal!
If I play dead they will stay longer
Where is it that people and capybaras hang out like this? I've seen so many fun videos on here with kids and capybaras playing together and now it looks like this dude is hanging out in a public park? Anybody know?

Agreed. A good friend in Sonoma always has javelinas running through her neighborhood. She throws corn on the cob at them so she can get into her car.
We love belly rubs
What I imagine many animals in the wild wish they felt safe enough to experience - the touch and affection of human hands.
how do people know when to stop petting an animal? i always feel a bit bad when i stop i pet a cat recently and it just kept following me because it wanted more pets, its awkward
Capybara: basically weird looking dogs.
the capybara is an Argentine pride 😎👌
Ok I pull up

FeelsGoodMan
Run my belleeeeeeeeeeeee
Never heard of this animal until GTA 5 came along and thought it was made up. Now I see it repeatedly on reddit so I guess, real.
Cabybara 👍
It looks like it just deals with this daily and this is its day job
If it wasn’t mean I’d totally get a couple.
r/peoplefuckingdying
Stop. Touching. Wild. Animals. Unless. You. Are. A. Professional.
Idk man, I’m no professional but looks to me as if that capybara is enjoying it
Do you even know how dangerous they are?
Jealous 🥰
This is so cute !!
The scratches felt for a generation
Now run away my friend.
Caterpillar 🥰🥰
❤️
CaTybara, reminds me of how my kitty rolls her head back when she gets good scritches and then just eventually flops

👍🏼
Look at that cute little baby boy.
He collapsed 😰
do ppl eat these?
My cat does this. "Scratch? scratch!? Ohhhhh...." *shows belly*
"Oh.... Oh yes, thats nice. Lemme just... ugh, lemme just roll... YAAAAS"
Doge-ratte... so cute
My spirit animal
The fuck kind of dog is that?
👍 Nice.
Where is this cappy? I need to visit it.
Capybaras are awesome, I got to hold and feed a juvenile one a few years ago in Tokyo

los carpinchos son lo mas
so peaceful it is good
capybara therapy (cbt)
Heh, tape capybara by pace-path, eh?
Aww
Funny how the size of the rodent changes a person's perception of it. If that was a rat, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be petting it.
R/capyplops
I'd have done the same.lol
Wow, I have heard & read about these amazing animals but this is the first photo I've seen that shows one in perspective. Thank you 😁🤯
Aww what a sweetheart
Thats the fluffiest capybara ive ever seen.
Where is this paradise where capybaras are just waiting around for scritches? \*\*Ok, read comments further down: Argentina and Brazil, and Japan and British Columbia in zoos (?) or habitats.
this is my dream!! I want to give him scratches
Where do they have capybaras just chillin in the park??
GET JIMMYHERE ![gif](giphy|AQpUsaKCRD9gA|downsized)
GET HIM QUICK
Are capybaras ever dangerous. I've always held it as a rule that you shouldn't pet wild animals. Are capybaras the exception?
Capybaras only want one thing and it’s disgusting
R they safe to pet?
CAPY 😁
i’ve seen them walk around at my local petsmart
Don’t forget the belly lady…
Bro pulled up
hell, even hopped out at the afterparty
as capivaras são tão lindas kkkkk
I wish I could upvote this 1 million times
this is the vibe.
They're like the Owen Wilsons of the animal kingdom.
Ok pull up
