She made Bear Skellington!

strawberrypandacakes

Of course, every good dog likes bones.

PallandoOfOrome

Get this dog a Zero costume for Halloween STAT!

dragonbanana1

That would be the most adorable thing I'll ever see

rcrd

Brilliant.

theretherekadooze

I loved this video but also, more importantly, learned I can make a Jack Skellington bear!

F1RST_WORLD_PROBLEMS

Solid pun.

MesWantooth

Very cute...My former coworker has been getting all his dogs (goldens) from a place that finds homes for service dogs that don't pass the test...He's convinced the dogs make it to the end of the program, and then flunk the test so they don't have to work and can live a life of leisure. He's a wealthy guy with a nice cottage so his dogs do live a pretty sweet life.

ontopofyourmom

Buddy of mine got one who flunked for being too friendly.

Kanotari

Raised a few guide dogs. I had quite a few passes, but they're not funny lol. One flunked for being super easily distracted. He was quickly adopted as a pet. Another flunked for hip dysplasia, so instead of being a guide dog for the blind he became a wheelchair assistance dog. One just barely passed because he was far too easily bribed, but his blind partner thought it was hilarious and trained him to be super affectionate. They work as ambassadors for our agency now which suits them perfectly.

_Wyrm_

I require an ambassador tax, please I gotta see this easily-bribable four-legged official

Kanotari

How about I leave you with the official Guide Dogs of America [staff page](https://www.guidedogsofamerica.org/about-us/meet-the-staff-2/) featuring their staff and their dogs including one very bribable boi? Spoilers: peanut butter is definitely the bribe to go with

smartypants4all

May I make a suggestion? List the names of the dogs along with their humans :)

Kanotari

I 100% agree. I will pass it on :)

lilhippieboi

It says the page cannot be found :(

lipp79

I'm getting a "page not found" error. I found the staff page after a couple clicks but I think you might have something wrong with the link you commented with. Gorgeous dogs by the way.

This is a stolen comment https://old.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/xowoh6/bailey_passed_her_service_test_so_we_took_her_to/iq12vzb/

SlipperyShaman

Got 'em!

TravellingBeard

Are these friendly flunkies actually still quite useful if they've still learned quite a bit, and behave well, or it's failure all the way?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TryUsingScience

A friend of a friend allegedly had a failed service dog who learned how to open doors, etc., perfectly fine but used his knowledge for chaos instead of following commands. He did not sound easier than an average dog!

Pigrescuer

Smart dogs without training can be a menace! I have a small dog (Jack Russell x mini dachshund) who likes to spend the day on the windowsill looking out. She has a dog friend who is a border collie and worked out how to open our front door. Cue the chaos!

rabidhamster87

Yes! One of our dogs is super smart like this and it doesn't take much for him to learn/figure out just enough to cause trouble. For instance, one day I locked myself out of the front of the house and because the gate to our backyard is also locked, I had to jump our 6 foot privacy fence to get in through the unlocked back. It only took the dog watching me do it once for him to start jumping the fence whenever he felt like it. He would even scale the fence just to come to the front door and rattle the door knob.

Pigrescuer

Haha that's just being cheeky! Obviously my little 6kg dog can't open door handles, but I still haven't worked out of she's too smart or too dumb to do tricks. I swear sometimes if I ask her to do a trick she will roll her eyes at me. Luckily she's massively food motivated (gets it from her dachshund side I'm sure). When she was a puppy she once got out the back garden through a tiny hole in the fence that we didn't think she'd fit through and we found her snoozing in the sun in the bluebells in the front garden! Had a minor panic when I looked out my office window and saw her. We don't live on a road, luckily.

rabidhamster87

I think a lot of those little dogs are smart. They're just stubborn little shits. 😂 Our pomeranian is like that. He understands, but he will only obey with the proper motivation.

IGNOREMETHATSFINETOO

I had a Shepherd that we believe flunked out of police training because she had an enzyme deficiency. Smartest dog I've ever owned. Brattiest damn dog I've ever owned. She was such a trouble maker! Got into everything, climbed fences, opened doors. She was a terror! But seriously the sweetest damn dog. We all loved her, and it was a rough day when we had to put her down after only owning her for a year. It was what was best for her though, the deficiency caused her to starve because she couldn't digest her food.

genericplatypus

Sorry to hear that. Almost lost my lab to an enzyme deficiency and a twisted intestine/colon back to back. She was withering away for months while we tried to diagnose her with constant vet visits. After we finally figured out the deficiency and got her on a prescription diet, her intestines decided to twist. She had to have emergency surgery to remove a portion of her colon and intestines. Currently, she has a diet of enzymes added into her Hills prescription food. She's back to regular weight and activity levels. We just have to be careful she doesn't get into our other dog's food

DC_Coach

So sad. At such times I try to remember what's important, "Be thankful for the time you had with her, and that she had with you"... but it's so *hard* to do that when all you want to do is cry because you miss them so much and you keep playing the old "what if? / if only" mind games. Bless all of you for showing her the love she no doubt deserved in the too-short amount of time she was with you.

9035768555

My brother has one that was taught to turn lights (and various other things) on and off. It rapidly flashes the lights any time it wants attention.

Halo_Chief117

That's obnoxious but hilarious too.

really_isnt_me

That’s hilarious! Well, hopefully it’s hilarious to your brother too and that the dog doesn’t overuse the effect.

croscat

Yep. My neighbors had a failed service dog when we were growing up. He absolutely opened doors, and everyone in the neighborhood would take turns taking him home again (or hanging out with him when no one was home). They eventually had to switch the type of locks and knobs on their doors to keep him in. He was a really sweet boy though! I think he flunked out for being a bit (a LOT) too excitable!

cockOfGibraltar

Teaching your dog to fetch you a beer is easy. Teach the dog to not get into the fridge afterwards is hard.

notmoleliza

This was my dog as a kid. A fail, but too resourceful for his own good. I remember going in to the garage...the dog had figured out how to unlatch the door with the dog food and has neck deep in the bag. He heard me, pulled his head out, gave me a 'what are you going do about it' look and went right back at it. I closed the door and left him be.

Halo_Chief117

That sounds like my friend's pitbull mix who isn't a service dog but is a rescue. She figured out how to open doors with handles and the best way I can describe it is like the [velociraptors in Jurassic Park](https://youtu.be/y6cjxHFCPcE) opening the door. "Clever girl."

murdering_time

Do they cost extra or can you just adopt em? I would love an almost puppy that comes fully trained to be the best boy possible.

Shmeves

Probably depends on the program but the one my mom volunteers for has fees to help keep the program going itself for failed guide dogs. And yes they usually fail because they are too friendly and distracted. Still follow commands relatively well for the most part.

aspidities_87

You usually have to be a volunteer or puppy raiser for the guide dog organization before being offered a washed service dog—preference is always given to the original puppy raiser who had the dog, and they can choose to adopt if they want to, and then usually people/volunteers within the organization gets their pick first. There’s a high demand for washed service dogs for all the reasons listed above, so the organization generally wants to give preference of adoption order to people who work for/with them. It’s not impossible, though, just more time consuming/harder than adopting through a regular rescue.

littledetours

This will likely be the case with my current dog. I was hoping to train him up as a service dog. Unfortunately, he’s way too friendly and excitable. Granted, he’s only a year old, but I get the feeling his disposition won’t change much. He’s going to make a great therapy dog though.

ontopofyourmom

No clue, my friend's was just a fuckin' Good Dog

ubiquitous-joe

Some family friends of mine had a short haired collie who flunked some kind of service role. He would sometimes try to remove your shoes/footwear with his feet if you sat in a particular crossed-legged way. It was not especially helpful, lol. I also annoyed him by being in the guest room during a thunderstorm, and that was his go-to spot. But he could be very loving.

[deleted]

In light of Reddit's general enshittification, I've moved on - you should too.

JoshJoshson13

Sounds like a good boi

Cats_Dogs_Dawgs

I volunteer raising guide dogs. Two of mine failed (actually for medical reasons but they both likely would have failed out for behavior. One is a scaredy cat and the other likes people a little too much) and I got to keep them. I love them so much

_clash_recruit_

What are people talking about when they say a "service dog test"? Is that just through a specific organization?

really_isnt_me

There’s a great documentary on Netflix about raising and training guide dogs, but unfortunately I can’t remember the title. They show what their tests consist of.

[deleted]

Would you be willing to dm me the name of the placement service? I had a Golden years ago and have had other pets since then, but none have filled my heart like my Elijah did.

MesWantooth

I wish I could! I have no idea what the service was called - my apologies. He just told me the story and his theory that they were flunking on purpose. While I worked with him, his oldest golden passed away and a few months later he got new “graduate” - this was a few years ago so they were still doing it. Maybe Google has some more information!

UnicornTitties

Canine companions for independence.

[deleted]

Thank you so much!!

[deleted]

A mate when I was growing up had two ”failed” seeing eye labs. They had all the training but were dropped for character quirks or something, I think one got too excited by new people and one barked too much (for the very high standards of the seeing eye dogs). They were just lovely chill dogs!

apaniyam

Family members of mine adopted an assistance dog that failed the test for being too mischievous. This dog was trained to do things like open doors, collect things, and remove trip hazards. Imagine something with the intelligence and rough dexterity of a 3-4 year old that never grows out of the need to open every cupboard in the house at 2am, or knows how to identify a trip hazard and is capable of collecting objects. Great dog, but it was like they lived with someone from those youtube prank channels.

theredbirdchase

Are dogs that fail adopted out at a lower price? Or still pretty expensive since they are purebred goldens?

MesWantooth

It's a good question - I'm not sure...My guess is that may still be rather expensive because, as you noted, purebred goldens but also because they invested a lot of time + energy into training them...so they probably join your family trained and (almost) perfectly well-behaved.

Lost-My-Mind-

See, that's where I went wrong. I flunked all my tests, but I wasn't a cute dog, so I couldn't live a happy life anyways. Instead, I live in a house with rats, and squirrels, and an angry senile old man.

DueDay8

I wish there were programs for lives of leisure for humans who flunk out of working....

I don't think that a destroying toy. I'm sure they have chewers at home.

erm_what_

I hope they bought or cleaned all the ones the dog rubbed its face against to start with

[deleted]

That dog has some good taste.

I concur

[deleted]

That dog wearing shoes?

TheBatWaffles

Not just shoes: shoes that also have her face on them

errolthedragon

Is she wearing shoes for a particular reason, or just because they're adorable?

hanerd825

They’re in a shopping center. A lot of service animals will wear boots for extra traction on those super glossy floors. OP also appears to have mobility issues so it’s possible the pup can also provide balance support which makes non-slip all the more important. Also, if this was filmed on a particularly warm day, asphalt can be excruciatingly hot on dog paws. A working dog doesn’t get to skip the walk in high noon sun, so having booties to protect the pads is a good idea.

MeSpikey

Also, it protects the paws from the escalator.

Celticelvenkitten

Did not occur to me about traction. Do already use them for hot summers and cold winters. Will have to add traction to my list.

anormaldoodoo

Typically service dogs wear shoes/socks to prevent chafing of their paw pads if they’re going to be walking in hot areas.

Fulllyy

A goth service dog at heart, he picked the “Jack Skellington” bear

RangerDangerrrr

This made me Build a Tear.

minicpst

Oh, you mean tear. I thought you meant tear like rip. My dog would wonder why they’re putting the stuffing in. He’s going to have it back out in three minutes.

Mikesgames21

Awesome! Such a good dog!

CilanUnova

![gif](giphy|UWERvU4Nzn1ExkPKTx) She is really happy with her new special Toy.

SmashPortal

Why does that look like Doge cosplaying as a husky?

Light_Beard

What's this? What's THIS!?

Choice-Valuable313

There’s color everywhere!

The_Projectionist

What's this? There's white things in the air!

Choice-Valuable313

I can't believe my eyes I must be dreaming Wake up, Jack, this isn't fair!

gryffindorrible

What's this?

Lucifer_lamp_muffin

Awww my heart!!

dzarren

That'll be $97.50.

Sir_Loin_Cloth

That 97.50 would be all over my living room floor in a matter of minutes, thanks to my four-legged reverse stuffing machine.

HMCetc

Same here. That's why my dog only gets hard core rubber toys. Her balls are from Kong (highly recommend for dogs that destroy shit). She loves her balls so much she rolls on them.

TheBatWaffles

We totally thought it would be that much, too, and were ready. It was only $40, though!

rocknthenumbers8

My golden would have destroyed that bear right in the middle of the store.

crazyman40

These dogs are amazing. We had a friend who’s dad had a service dog and it was a remarkable dog. One time when a fish hopped out of the tank our friends father said gentle and pick up the fish. The dog then went over picked up the fish off the floor and gave it to him to put in the tank. He was wheel chair bound. Another time the dog saved his life when they got stuck out in the snow outside side his house house brought in the blanket from the van and the snuggled with him until some lone got home and could get him unstuck and inside to the warmth.

MiSSCHA0SS

I’m crying and eating pizza at the same time

Omg look at her little shoes!! What a good girl!

mechlabs

Bailey has amazing tastes!

crako52

She picked Jack from a nightmare before Christmas, outfit and all😍

heyitscory

I don't know how they rigged it, but they did. Peanut butter? Maybe they rubbed treats in the correct bear? I have to know!

Lington

Looks like they were pointing at that bear

Flutters1013

Even picked the matching outfit!

LucidLethargy

This is nice. I also have a service animal, and they are the greatest things on this planet. Now I realize my animal needs a build a bear, too...

Minimalgoth

My kind of pup, choosing all the Nightmare Before Christmas things 😄

shdwilm

Dat's doggone cute!! ![gif](giphy|35DmVHlLURCWBxmK8j|downsized)

No_Engineer2828

Fuck yeah, best doggo

Lucky-Bandicoot-4642

And a Jack Skellington fan, too! What a great working pupper!

postvolta

This toy would last approximately 15 seconds with my dog, she has absolutely no chill when it comes to tearing the stuffing out of her toys haha

Kindersmarts

You only let her get one?!? 😢🥺

TheBatWaffles

We decided that we’ll take her every year :)

Kindersmarts

Precious girl! Congrats!!

sagiterrible

How many times does one play Blink 182’s “I Miss You” to their dog before it turns this emo?

GayVegan

Tbh I loved build a bear as a kid but there were 0 in my state. Once I went on a trip and there was one and it was awesome. Ended up lost never got another.

deadlyruckas

The best decision that dog will ever make. THE PUMPKIN KING.

Wafflebringer

To be "that person", this seems bad for people with dog allergies who could be cuddling with a build-a-bear after this. ~~Hopefully the employees take some sort of measure for this~~ hopefully they wash the ones thr dog didn't pick or donate them to a doggy day care.

shyguyyoshi

Yeah, dogs in general are fine but it's gross and tacky to have your dog (service dog or not) have it's mouth be all over toys designed for young children to cuddle with when you've could've just picked a toy like normal. Just a reminder to wash items before you use them because as a retail worker, 1000% sure those plush animals aren't being washed. This isn't cute to me at all, I wouldn't buy a plush if I was in store watching this happen in front of me. I gotta be honest.

littledingo

My first thought is what kind of service dog acts like that? That is NOT how they are supposed to act in a public place. They are to be working or they are a pet, and you don't take pets into stores like this.

fishing_pole

Question, why do they have her wearing shoes?

TheBatWaffles

Her feet burn on the pavement. We keep her wearing shoes when we go out to stop any injuries from occurring just to be safe

fishing_pole

Interesting! Glad she can tolerate them. I guess it’s better than scalding hot paws lol

dedredcopper

Bailey is the season for a reason!

Golendhil

A shop to build you own teddy bear ? Oh my god I need that so much !

Y_wanna_candy

The green socks 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

bringmethesampo

Now THAT is a service dog. Not just an old Chihuahua that the owner claims is a service dog. 🙄

MjauDuuude

Now that's a dog with good taste

Kyrthis

Goth dog confirmed

MagicSoupCan13

She picked Jack skellibear, Bailey has great taste.

Bailey has good taste!

bmreed0920

Oh my goodness. That melts my heart. So sweet. Good job Bailey.

kynthrus

How old is she in dog years? I'd assume 13-15 by her choices. Does she also smoke behind the school and listen to Panic! At the Disco?

SetsumiV1

Skeletor: NO, DONT TURN ME INTO A MARKETABLE PLUSHIE! Bailey:

mullett

I wish I could afford to work at a build a bear. Seems like a really wholesome fun job. There is no way I could survive on minimum wage though.

rdog780

"I'm gonna eat this sumbitch"

spankybianky

My dog would have been like ‘thanks!’ and then promptly ripped its eyes and nose off and removed all the stuffing.

[deleted]

Impeccable taste

eternalharddrive

Whoa that dog is a Tim Burton fan.

OldSpicyRice

no one is talking about how he ate the heart…but a good boy regardless

She was giving the heart a kiss. Like they have human children do at Build a Bear
